HealthRe: Eat More Bananas For More Sons – Scientists by Solozzo(m): 2:49am On May 01, 2013
cecegorz: Are the scientists getting dumb these days or what?
Have they forgotten elementary genetics?
Females = XX Chromosomes
Males = XY chromosomes. It takes the man's Y chromosome hitting the beam before the X to produce a male child.
Truth is that no woman plays any role in determining the sex of the baby.
These scientists didn't pass Integrated science class. Wallahi! tongue
Stop exposing your inability to comprehend simple newspaper science reports, and desist from insulting scientists. The fact is that the semen ejaculant contain both x and y bearing chromosomal sperms. The survival and speed of motility of these sperms as well as their longevity and health determines the sex of the babies. So what these meals eaten by women do is to affect these factors among these sperms. Y sperms survive better in alkaline media than x sperms that survive better in acidic media in the reproductive tract of the female. Just like in crocodiles, the temperature if the egg nest influences the sex of the baby crocs as male embryos survive better in warmer nests than female embryos

The reported findings of these scientists are supportive of these theories but need more research before they can be generalisable.

Dangerous medication!! It may lead to marital problems and possibly divorce as the man may become distrustful of his wife, lose sexual attraction towards her and cease providing financial support to her and his pretty daughters

Hezron Lorraine: nairaland is full of mad, crazy, psychiatric patients, nurses and warders.I just love it here.police week looks quite boring if it was for the federal police force or the HQ in abuja alone.all for show.I praise their efforts, but they got a long way to go man.its worrisome we have active satelites in space and yet this lacks an accurate and up to date database.intelligence gathering are still of irrelevence due to inaccuracy, thanks to foreign aides.I find it hard this nation couldn't refocus its position on security,it needs a total reviving of every intelligence and security agency.it wouldn't cost this nation zillions to build state of the art police buidings in every local government, equipped with undisrupted satelite access, modern glocks and assault riffles.each police station should have no less than 6 patrol bikes,4 patrol cars, criminal conveyance trucks and bus 2,anti-bomb trucks equipped with technology for bomb detonation,in every metropolis a police station should be stationed with fire rescue trucks,an helicopter.e.t.c.I'm not in power,so I don't know how it works, but its what can be achieved.on d whole islamic mitancy in the north.I for one feel if mr president jona declares a state of emergency with all day curfew in all northern states.full border lock-down with patrol personnels,dn deploy,500 soldiers,200 policemen,100 sss personnels,20 dia agents in every northern state.just tell me if every nooks and crannies are searched.wouldn't they flush out the terrorist.after ds,dy should seek assistance from the french and american intelligence community to flush out alqaeda movement in the sub-saharan region.I know if jona does ds,iy would affect the economy of the north.I don't know if its attainable.but its conceivable.
Agreed. It's a sorry sight in many police stations and barracks. What you enumerated is achievable but too much corruption in the police force in Nigeria. We can handle this by first providing the best amenities, basic equipment, good pay and medical economic supports for police officers first. Then begin ethical training and flushing out of the corrupt ones. But in Nigeria corruption begins at the top. And who would bell the cat as the saying goes.

collynzo2: Good question, despite the thousands of gun related violence and murder in America, they are not willing to accept any gun control legislation whatsoever, no one is willing to give up his or her gun, so much for a safe country? How many Nigerians see the need to own and move around with a gun to feel safe? I heard the number of guns in America is more than the population itself, why? Before anyone complains about the comparisons, it was started by the Nigerians who say they live in America.
Most Nigerians would wish they have their own guns, but the police and affordability is an issue. Gun ownership in the United States of America is more of a cultural thing than a real need. It is a carry over of the civil war ang gangster days in america. But look at the amount of protector gates , bars and locks we install in our homes, the number of dangerous illegal weapons in the country. We now use soldiers at checkpoints, patrol vehicles and escorts for container delivery trucks. We need no one to tell us the degree of insecurity.

The OP claims Nigeria is safer now than in the nineties. He has found it hard to convince the forum here. Whenever a foreign based NL writes about naija insecurity issues he screams it's because he has been away. Many living in Nigeria had relayed their experiences in recent timescale.
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by Solozzo(m): 5:49am On Apr 26, 2013
PHIPEX: I don't get it when some Nigerians make fast comparisms between Nigeria and America; how reasonable is it to compare a first world nation against a nation that is still ranked in the 3rd world category? A reasonable comparism should be Nigeria against the likes of Egypt, South Africa, Mexico and the likes. If you compare Nigeria to Britain and America you'll easily conclude that Nigeria is not safe but if we are reasonable enough to compare the country against her mates like India and the Arab countries then we may appreciate the country better.

America should be compared against Britain while Nigeria should be compared against South-Africa.
That's right.! But the issue is do you think Nigeria is a safe place to be, or do you think Nigeria is safer now than in the nineties?
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria Really Unsafe? by Solozzo(m): 5:34am On Apr 26, 2013
Rossikk: Swear that this wasn't over ten years ago.

That's a direct challenge.

I've told you to drop your old views on the Naija you left behind in the 90s. Naija has changed. Armed robbery has decreased compared to what it used to be back in your days. You really need to get with the program. When we're travelling now we hardly even think about robbers. cool
Bloody lies! Nigeria was far safer in the nineties than now. There is still high rate of armed robbery. Over 400 cases of kidnapping in Edo state alone last year. You claim we neglect northern Nigeria. This is a ploy to minimize the reality. Medical directors of federal hospitals in Benin city now go about with police escort even within hospital premises.

You are among those retarding progress in this country by selling mendacity to the govt. It is your type that tells the presidency Nigeria is good so no need to do anymore.

Allohrandy: MUMU, I am not going to keep my mouth shut because I have a right to express my opinion in this forum..I dont like it when some selfish Nigerians involve in immigration fraud.. People like her make it difficult for genuine Nigerian students to study abroad. She is among those that make it almost impossible for genuine Nigerian students to get student visa. She got a student visa to study in the UK and she should have been focus in maintaining her student visa status rather than involving in Immigration fraud.. If she had maintained her student Visa status in the UK, she wont have been asked to leave the country. so she should be deported back to Nigeria immediately
Nothing wrong in getting married even if it is to enable one stay with the man you love. That is the key issue here. The immigration has to prove that it is a fake marriage!

hedges007: We must realize that, many foreigners especially Nigerians, do all sort of things in order to remain here in UK..Some forge all sort of documents, arranged or scam marriage etc...before now, the issues of asylum seekers was popular among east Africans living in UK (especially Eritreans and Ethiopians) they quickly back up their claims with the war between the 2 countries just to make their case appear pitiful and appealing. So pathetic that Nigerians are now towing that path.. Nothing is wrong if u decide to stay back in UK provided u have something meaningful doing. However, this lady as far as i'm concerned, she's one of those desperados around here in UK...Her desperate moves looks quite too dangerous for crying out loud ..Her claims makes one wonder if Nigeria is now Syria or Mali where war and total insecurity is prevalent..How can we be sure they killed her father like she claimed? how can someone who came to UK on student visa suddenly move to seek asylum and by extension, frivolous marriage? Asylum seekers and other desperados should stop painting their home countries as if they are cesspit or hell before white people just because of their own interest..
Nigeria is a hard place to live. No jobs, evnergy poverty and high crime rate. In the seventies and mid eighties people were desperate to return home from abroad. Not anymore. Most of us assume the girl deliberately did the suicide thing to remain in the UK. Could be she was genuinely distressed by the thought of returning to nothingness.

Pataki: She will be subjected to a mental health assessment by two psychiatric doctors, a professional mental health nurse and a social worker.

Now this is where I presume it gets tricky - she is due to be deported from the UK, hence she currently has no right of stay in the UK! Her now high medical expenses will be paid by the UK government from tax money.

If she is found to be psychologically OK following the mental health assessment done, she will be put on the next available flight to Nigeria!

If she not mentally stable - suicidal in thoughts and speech (nigerians sabi do am wella sha), her whole immigration story will now be properly scrutinised, including biological evidence to her age, and if found incorrect - she will still be deported!

Either ways, her best option is to quietly return to Nigeria and follow the right thing. She already screwed things up for herself.
Wrong!! You missed her marital status issue, and the risk she poses to herself and her husband's distress if deported. Her husband and his mother are have sued immigration to court over this. She had no evidence of previous mental illness nor criminality and husband and her mother in law have means to support her in the UK. Her suicide notes and her desperation indicated a strong emotional relationship with her husband and that's what counts. The assessing psychiatrist may even recommend a stay of execution of the deportation order. Case closed. I know how the system works quite well as I had worked in Australia, a British sister nation, as a psychiatrist for eight years. We have written similar reports in the past, urging supports and review of such cases by immigration.

basadenet: How on earth would a sane person change her status from legitimate student to an Asylum seeker? To me there is something fishy there, because as a student you have some rights too to do some lot of things in U.K. My advise to her is to first of all return to Nigeria and file a case against her deportation.
The key issue is that she is married to a British citizen and the immigration thinks there is no emotional attachment in the relationship, so it is a fake marriage. They have to prove their case in court.some lof thes immigration officers are so racist. The UK had run its economy down and using foreigners as scape goats.

She came to UK on student visa and should have gone back after her visa expired instead of involving in a fake marriage.. Anyway I wish her speed recovery

HealthRe: How Do You Deal With Suicide Thoughts? by Solozzo(m): 6:25am On Apr 21, 2013
Napolitano: Some people underestimate suicide. I think one of the most difficult things in this life is to make the decision to end your existence. Those who are suicidal are usually downbeat and frustrated and look unto killing themselves as the only option. As someone that has dealt with many suicidal thoughts, these are my suggestions:

1. Engage in things that make you happy. From video games to watching your favorite sport, pour more to your passions.
2. Get a personal life philosophy. Like me, it's "I'm too strong to give up"
3. Work towards a true strong relationship with someone. Those who are suicidal are usually friendless without anyone to talk to.
4. Be more religious. Faith in God can strenghten your mind and drive off any negativity.
Quite good ideas. We should also emphasize that suicidal thinking in most cases is a sign of being unwell and not just being weak and spineless. So consulting psychiatrist or therapy is quite helpful. Counseling and emotional supports from friends help a lot,. However most times we underestimate suicidal thought seriousness. Research have shown majority of people committing suicide have confided their thoughts or plans in someone but no serious help was provided at that time.

Tips to help suicidal thoughts

1. Develop hobbies or activities that distract or take your thoughts off things. Physical exercises, relaxation training helps a lot
2. Communicate your thoughts to professionals or friends, family.
3. Consult a doctor. Remember that your suicidal thinking may not be you but a sign of your illness eg depression and that treatment will help you recover.
Do not turn to drugs of abuse or alcohol to cope as this may make you worse and reduce your ability to take charge of yourself in critical situation by disinhibition of your willpower

4.remember that whatever problems you have suffered millions of people go through similar if not worse situations. And that not all problems can be solved, you may need to live with it. Learn to give in and accept that you and the strongest man in the world can be defeated by some problems and that it is not a sign of weakness to give in but a sign of courage and self honesty. That life is win some, lose some and that a loss may give you an opportunity to explore more chances of success
5. Some form of spiritual support in terms of religion, mysticism had been found useful especially if there is good pastor, imam or leader;if you believe in faith based doctrines. This helps you understand there is more to life than material things.
6. In developed countries there are suicide helplines, support organizations and emergency services that can be consulted
