Badgers14: Very intriguing perspective.
One thing is very clear.. the current structure of the country is a no no...
Nigeria have too many ideological differences to remain in the current structure. The current structure wasn't created to work for Nigerians, it was created to work for those who came together to forge what we call Nigeria. The constitution you use wasn't put together by up by representatives of all regions/tribes/groups in Nigeria.

Badgers14: This is the best way, the only way to move this country forward.
If "one Nigeria " is to be maintained... this is the only way to achieve it.
But sadly the "invisible hands" of politics, the northern oligarchs will not allow it to happen as they own most of the oil wells in the south The northern oligarchs as you called them are just fronts for the established west. An underdeveloped Nigeria is a blessing to them. Another thing though, its not just the northern oligarchs, they're in all regions of Nigeria. Once you agree with the interest of their master (The west), they pull you in. Those who disagreed either got killed, damaged publicly or never allowed to smell the position. |

kopell: This debate is unnecessary, who even sending $1k monthly before he be lucky if he can still send $400. How about nothing? if he or she struggling to pay his bills. Is hard for people to understand this not until you move here permanently, then they know the difference between kaki and leather. That $100 someone send, do they know how many hours that person worked to get that money. No one I repeat give anyone money here you must go and put in those hours to make money for yourself. I don't understand why you think I'm alien to the way of life there though. but I understand why there's a need to beat down the positives out there before some people think money dey fall from trees for anywhere 'abroad'. |

sonnie10: In practical terms, someone who was able to send $1k monthly before might only be able to send $400 now, if their income didn’t change. Even with high exchange rate now, the high cost of building materials would negatively affect what ever gain made. While this is true, some also increased what they send home... |

sonnie10: I am not comparing Nigeria and US inflation rate. Rather I am trying to show the current reality why someone who could afford to save $1k monthly in US as at 2021 might not be able to do so today. Cost of everything now is really high. Human instinct is first about survival. The priority is to take care of one’s immediate need. Those struggling to meet their basic needs because of the current inflation here cannot have enough savings to spare. Well I'm actually talking about the value of whatever you manage to send to Nigeria. It will get more done for you here compared to this time last year. It's actually not easy in most countries of the world. |

sonnie10: There is inflation here too, just that people are paid weekly/biweekly so they don’t really have to wait long before their account is replenished. Energy prices especially have really gone up. Petrol use to be $1. 90 but now it’s above $3 per gallon. Electricity bill has almost doubled., if you live in a single family house here and pay less than $350 a month, that is cheap. Raise in home value has impacted tax amount. Even groceries have gone up, in most instances 20- 30%. All these take big chunks off savings. Still can't take 50% of the value of $1k in Nigeria. What is US inflation figure compared to that of Nigeria? The last time I checked, it was 8.2% while that of Nigeria is about 20%+ |

sonnie10: Not quite. If you were able to save $1k a month before, the current inflation would take at least half of it. I don't get you. How can inflation happening in Nigeria take half of the value of your $1k saved outside Nigeria or how do you mean? |

rmx: Not entirely correct , it’s possible your local income stream is ahead of inflation and devaluation
People on fixed salary will struggle
For people abroad they are also coping with unprecedented inflation , and local cost of building materials goes up in correlation with dollar/Fc increase also
But always better to have some assets , investment or savings in FC Definitely, there would always be exceptions here and there and this was captured in my comment. If you are based in Nigeria but have funds/investments in some instruments that are outside the influence of the current naira debacle, then you're safe. Not just salary earners, some businesses within Nigeria don't have the luxury of FC. |

sonnie10: Last year, if you spent $1k you could only get 100 bags of cement, but today the same amount would get you 200 bags. Nigeria economics is beyond comprehension A good thing for those building from outside, a nightmare to those building from inside except if your income stream is from outside. |

leksite120: Trust me it's not a bad thing to support Buhari in 2015. I mean if not for tribalism, why would you support Jonathan, a complete failure. Buhari was the option we had then to stop the suffering and being looking like a messiah, we opted for him. Those who still hold on to castigating people that supported Buhari then are pure tribalist. It's just like having an option between the present administration and Atiku who's also not so good. A lot of rational people would still wanto prefer Atiku just to try something new from d present heat.
That's the case of Jonathan and Buhari then. Except you're a tribalist, there's no reason why you should support Jonathan. And the same people that kept supporting Jonathan ( the tribalist) are the same people telling us today that they're not supporting Obi cos he's from their tribe. Why should a rational person prefer Atiku after Buhari? Do you know the meaning of rational? |

A great deal of those people indoctrinated by the Jappanese have no actual skills - or transferable skills still weighty enough to these foreign nations after subtracting thire measure of prejudices. If these Nigerians possessed adequate skills for Abroad (skills more valuable than prejudices can detract from) many would be using those skills in Nigeria. Part of the problems of Nigeria. Majority of the youth have no tangible /transferable skill(s) and they magically want Nigeria to grow. Almost all of them have joined the digital marketing, music, etc skill gang. Most not interested in learning real and important skills needed to build the nation because they are not as easy as the aforementioned. How can the real sector grow with such work force? |

Bahrainguy: These are stuff Nigerians do say and I’ll be like I’m slave in my home country already.
Have you ever live in a place without bothering of charging devices (uninterrupted power supply)
Have you …. Imagine a life where you can go out at anytime and you can even travel miles without thinking of Fulani or bandits?
Have you ever live in a place whereby their unlimited data is unlimited data?
Back home I’ve got epilepsy light, I’ve been robbed twice on Eko bridge they broke my car windows, I’ve submitted applications to several company yet me and you know if you don’t have anyone you’re on your own. I’m a graduate but my certificate is so useless because I can’t even get a job that’ll fit in my level. I can’t dare to walk alone at night around areas like okoko, mile 2 or mile 12, otedola bridge at night. Even day self I have to be guiding my gadgets.
Have spent many years back home yet to achieve single land you’ve got to struggle. I love home I love Nigeria but Nigeria isn’t for me because our selfish leaders have sabotage the future for their kids.
Their kids are here enjoying while we are their working. To be honest with you I prefer here 1million times than home.
With my I’d I can use latest iPhone on credit I can rent or have a car on loan and spread repayment for years simple life without having issues.
I rest here think about all these brother and watch YouTube don’t sit on tv watching CNN or BCC these countries are one of the safest Your leaders are not the ones robbing, kidnapping and killing people all over Nigeria or is it your leaders that are also turning UAE (Dubai) upside down of recent? Same with South Africa And even some parts of Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia. Nigerians (some) as a people are becoming terrible people all over the world and we keep hiding this fact under 'our government mantra'. Nigeria is what she is because Nigerians made her so (The majority). |
