I didn't make excuses for Suarez, it's strange that you skipped 23 years old strikers we have everywhere in the world doing wonders who are age mates of Okpotu but went ahead to use suarez as an example.

Morata is not Spain's point man since you still think we should compare, so let's use country for country.

Another reason why I see your comparison as misguided is that Morata isn't the first choice for Spain.

HGS is why Okpotu is in morroco, do you think if it didn't help him, he would have been picked? So sir being HGS in the NPFL took him to CHAN.

Finito.
BascoVanVeli:
Get it straight, u don't like making excuses for Anthony Okpotu because in our small conversation u have already made excuses for Luis Suarez, Harry Kane and Alvaro Morata. IMO the player has made amends because we are still in the competition, even if he scored 20 goals by now we would still at best be in the semifinals. I already acknowledged that he was poor so no need to play to the gallery.

U keep talking about HGS but who that hep? I am telling u Morata who cost more than all West African leagues combined missed chance after chance and u are asking if he was a top scorer? if they sell Opkotu today will he even cost as much as Morata's weekly pay?

Edit:

The EPL is not the most competitive league in the world. Competitive means a league where people with almost equal strength play with no clear cut person or persons as overall winner.

In the top 5 leagues in Europe, we have at least 1-5 clubs with almost equal strengths when it comes to winning the league.

I believe you now understand why I know it can't be the most competitive in the world.

If a league of 20 clubs have just 6 clubs competing season in and out, then it's not a competitive league, it becomes competitive if it's made up of only 6 clubs sir.

We have leagues in Africa, South America, some parts of Europe that are VERY competitive with no clear cut winner season by season. Meaning almost all clubs in such league can win.
junnyjake:
There are 6 top clubs in the EPL that are putting in tough competition for the league.

You can't say so for the other 5 leagues in Europe. it's either you have a 1-team league or at most a 2-team league.

I don't understand why you're using others to excuse him. Those you listed, apart from Kane who was HGS in 2016, Morata wasn't, so no need for the comparison.

Now to Kane, how many chances was created by England, how many did Kane attempt and how many did he score/miss?

Back to Okpotu, we created more than 10 goal scoring chances in the first match, I believe you know how many Okpotu wasted.

Same with second game.

I don't like giving excuses for players especially when they have been given enough time to make amends.

Concentrate on your player and stop using " shebi ola dey steal na, so obi fit steal too" analogy here.
BascoVanVeli:
Actually Kane was the HGS that season but that was not my point. I named Luis Suarez but u said he was way older and then I proceeded to giving u Kane and Morata who I think are good young strikers who have had rough patches before. This your HGS talk is really scandalous, u mean Morata who costs more than the NPFL combined with the PSL, would have to win the golden boot before I use him in an analogy with Tony Okpotu?

The most watched leagu and not the most competitive.

The most competitive league is a league where everyone is 50% sure of winning at the end of the season. Is the EPL such a league?

komekn:
I don't prefer.

I talk about players I have seen train, watched develop progress and even decline. Players that I speak to thier coaches about and watch live and even speak bto directly.

When I do comparison to some players I fund them to be as competitive or even possibly better than some players selected to the SE.

I feel every player should be selected on merit and that merit shouldn't be speculative but from current confirmed outstanding performance on the field of play in your parent club. Not on past glories.

I do feel that some leagues are more competitive than others. And I have no apologies for saying the EPL is the most competitive league in the World. I didnt say best or mist technically superior. But the most COMPETITIVE .

I am not a football agent I admit to being associated.

I mentioned players who played in the local league in Nigeria that I have had a preference for. But my area of associated involvement is England and so I have in depth experiential knowledge. I would not call that bias.

Was Morata also his leagues HSG too?

So please what are you driving at?
BascoVanVeli:
I didn't ask about sitters, how many goals did Harry Kane score at the last Euro's?

I don't know how many Kane missed in the Euro, you can help us with the stats, morata is not the leagues HGS so I don't see the comparison here.
BascoVanVeli:
How many did Morata miss against Arsenal? How many did Harry Kane score at the last Euro's? These things happen and if me acknowledging that means I am making excuses then so be it.

Are you making excuses for him or what? Over 70 goals in the NPFL or scored majority of the goals outside NPFL?

He's not having any rough patch oga, it's an excuse for him. He should shape up, I'm a pro NPFL but he's giving the league a bad name by trying to prove to the world and critics that topping the goal chart in the league is only via PKs.

Sure, players often times have droughts but his finishing are giving him away.

Hopefully he will shape up against Sudan and shut the mouth of the critics once again as he did the last time.

And bro, I got your points, just trying to kick against giving too much excuses for him.
BascoVanVeli:
The point is that any striker can have a bad patch. Suarez had his and so did Ronaldo. Age has nothing to do with it because it is expected that Suarez is at the prime of career right now. Okpotu has over 70 career goals in Nigeria alone, the man is a proven striker who happens to be going through a rough patch at the moment. Nigerian football fans should learn to cheer their players especially when they are down because that is when they most need it. There is a difference between a bad decision and an error, if my player is trying his best but just happens to mess up then I have no right to get angry. This is the fundamental reason I like La liga over the premier league.

He actually tried scoring that goal but he hasn't been sharp when comparing strikers. Suarez is not 23, Okpotu is the so called 23, when Suarez was 23, he was scoring like madddd.
BascoVanVeli:
He showed class by scoring at the 90th minute. It is not about how many times we fall but the times we get back up. I have seen the great Luis Suarez miss easier opportunities, it even got to the point that on a 3 on 1 Messi decided to go with Paulinho over Suababa.

tbaba1234:
I find it problematic that Okpotu is the best striker that NPFL can offer. Imagine if we had a more potent striker . We would have won games easier
Maybe because our best hardly stay in the league without running away to some backwater countries for the money. (not their fault though, 99% of Nigerian footballers play football for the money).

Imagine the kind of players (Attackers precisely) that have left our league for greener pastures in the past 2-3 years. Libyans, Sudanese, Zambians, Egyptians, Moroccans, etc don't lose "most" of their best to foreign leagues like we do. i think we are the most hit when it comes to "football drain".

Hopefully, welfare and player package will improve and become better with time.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow:
You still don't get, that Okpotu hasnt been scoring as expected doesn't change the fact that he's last season's HGS, so how do you expect the coach to replace him?

Secondly, who's the "better" player on the team list he should be replaced with?

tbaba1234:
Well, Okpotu has already shown his weaknesses in previous games. By now, the coach should have replaced him if he had a better player

His profligacy in front of goal on another day could easily have cost us.

Chai, see as multiple pages waste on the back and forth about Iheanacho.

Chai chai chai.

BTW, the 2 names people insulted yesterday ended up scoring for us.

One more thing, imagine Salisu not picking Okpotu in the CHAN team and we end up playing the same way we have played so far, the same set of people insulting Salisu right now would still come for his head with statements like "why leave out the league's goalscorer"?

He must have collected bribe or he's tribalistic bla bla bla.

This thread has opened my eyes to how most Nigerians reason. (A good place to sample why we are who we are as Nigerians).
