The authors might put some truth in his mouth. That is what I am taking. It is the author that is knowledgeable not the character in the story.

They are practicing it and keeping the divine laws. They don't need to be members of any group. Just apply the precepts to your life and let it guild you. That is the purpose.

It is within us. It is not in the stars or In the skies.
Where our ancestors not keeping all the laws before the coming of the white men? No stealing. They even use stones to tell people the cost of their goods. When they come back, it will be correct. Adultery and prostitution was very very rare.....it they have dispute they have a court where they are settled, either in the obi or obas palace...and his ruling is final .(Much like the sahendrin. Etc. we don't gather to show people we are keeping the laws. There was relative peace in the land. Until the white men came and peace ran away from us. And we started demonizing our roots.
