treesun: *EKEDC IN DESPERATION* ___________ I installed an 18kW solar power system at my property in Lekki Phase 1, relegating EKEDC supply to a backup status. Since then, I have been having more frequent visits from personnel of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), coming to check my prepaid meter.
On one of those visits, the EKEDC team stood watching the meter for motion to indicate consumption. When the meter wasn't moving, they called me to say they suspected I had bypassed the meter. I told them I had enough solar power for my daytime needs and only used their supply as a backup for the dark hours. To prove this to them, I switched on my inverter bypass for about 2 minutes so my consumption would be from EKEDC. They saw the meter rotating normally. They were visibly upset and one of them mumbled something like _"This ọ̀gá no wan gree us chop"_. They left.
Today (19-Oct-2026), three of them came to my premises with a notice of disconnection. The last time I loaded an EKEDC token was in July 2026 and I still had ample units left. When I asked why they would disconnect me, they said the reason was "LOR" (Loss of Revenue). They said my slow consumption indicates a faulty meter and I had to pay them ₦112,606 for loss of revenue.
I told them my meter was not faulty and that they could test it if they wanted. The lady said they were losing revenue and they had to make up for it.
I didn't know whether to laugh or to be angry. I have no intention of paying EKEDC a dime for its loss of revenue due to my taking steps to protect my interest.
But, I share this story for all who are investing in solar power to know that the DisCos are now desperate. They now have "Loss of Revenue" as a reason for your disconnection from their supply. It is simply that they are not making enough money from you.
I am waiting for EKEDC to disconnect me from their grid before I lodge a formal complaint to the regulatory authority.
I'm not based in Lagos but also got disconnected by these comedians. Haven't answered them for over a year now because they also refused giving us prepaid meter.
Only use generator to pump water and iron. Solar handles every other power consumption since then.

Watianoengineer: We resellers buy currently at 1152 at gas plant and sell for 1500/1600 per kg. Transport from gas plant per cylinder/bottle is 2500.
If you buy 60kg at 1152. Multiply it by 60kg plus transport 2500.
Then calculate selling for 1500/1600 x 60kg then deduct your previous calculation from gas plant. What is left is your profit on each bottle.
If you are in a busy area where food sellers are plenty you can sell minimum of 120kg/2 cylinders daily.
It's not much profitable but better than doing nothing

I was thinking of bigger cylinders like 100, 200 or even 300kg capacity but it seems transporting it to and fro the gas plants will be problematic. Any ideas or suggestions on this?

Please I need advice on what kind of lucrative business one could do with 2.5M. That's all I have in heaven and earth unless I want to sell my properties to raise more. I'm actually a dispatch rider but this work (although very lucrative) is too hectic and tiring. I decided to buy more bikes but then it turns out that dispatch work is only lucrative if you ride the bike yourself. The moment you start giving out bikes, the prospect dwindles. So I plan to sell my remaining 4 bikes, reason I claimed I could double the capital later down the year.
My spine hurts badly, my chest feels tight, my palms moved from soft too coarse, my eyes are sandy. Dispatching isn't something one does for a long time, in fact when I ventured into it, the plan was to do it for 1 and half years but ended up do 2 years. I am a Nigerian currently in the UK studying for a master's degree. Honestly, I am struggling badly with life here, and I have been regretting since i came here. Before coming to the UK, I had my own challenges in Nigeria, but I was far happier, i had peace i took for granted.
Since arriving here, I have been feeling stressed, worried and trapped. I don't enjoy anything about this place, and I find myself regretting my decision almost every day. Sometimes people even notice the worry on my face and ask me if I am okay, THE STRESS IS OVERWHELMING.
One of the things weighing heavily on me is the routine I have ahead of me for the next year. I either have to go to school or be working. I don't have even one day of rest in a week not even Sunday. This is what my life is going to look like for the next year, and honestly, I don't know how I will cope with it. The thought of living like this is overwhelming, should i even call that living?
Another thing that worries me is the future. I see people talking about five year and ten year plans to gather enough funds and return back home, but I don't even know how I can stay here for another month. I have met Nigerians who have lived here for many years, some 5, 10 years and they have nothing, even the ones who manage to build one small house in Nigeria built it with their life(not money) working like a sl@ve 7 days a week toiling and jeopadising your health just to build a house, is it worth it?
Seeing this has made me question what exactly I am walking into and wether its better to exit early when i still have my youth, i mean the kind energy people put here if they put it back in Nigeria they must succeed. People are not happy here they are simply enduring everything because they have already invested so much in coming and is ashamed to go back.
If I return to Nigeria now, I will have to start figuring things out again. My biggest fear is not just the financial side of returning. It is also what people will say. Some Nigerians may laugh at me for returning after such a short time, especially when so many people are desperate to relocate abroad.
I don't want to make a decision based on people's opinions, but I would be lying if I said their judgment does not bother me. At the same time, I don't want to spend the next 5-10 years being miserable, missing out on life, toiling, waking up by 4am and getting home by 8pm simply because I am afraid of what people will say. If i ever get the courage to go back to Nigeria ill never leave that place, you'll never value that Country until you've left. I am just confuse at the moment.
Like the former minister of finance said, many of us are competing with a subsidy. So run your numbers and find out what works for you.
This is why many people that desire japa and know that they will easily be able to get into the UK are still in Nigeria.
Many of the people doing well/okay in the UK are probably on a scholarship, have support from wealthy relatives, have a thriving business back in Nigeria, raised substantial amounts of money before travelling or have something that "subsidizes" their expenses. I have heard a lot of stories and know people that confirms this.
Nigerians don't complain about the UK as much as they do other countries.
It's still possible to get something good out of the country though and this is not to discourage anyone but to get the mind prepared.

You should look for a calm and good moment to bring up discussion on finances.
Do you guys have a plan you are supposed to be working with? Who pays rent, groceries, light bill, fuels the generator, etc. Most people don't do this especially when one partner has the money to handle everything but when income drops, attitude starts to change.
The discussion can also include what a partner that's not up to speed financially needs to cover once they get their act together.
Additionally, you guys should appreciate yourselves when you do things even when they are normal routine stuff.... Life no easy, a little encouragement usually goes a long way to easy discomforts.
