Beautiful car, very feminine. Relatively cheap parts but some parts could be scarce because it's not that common. Bought for a first time driver too.

Make sure you have access to Benz specialists. Use strictly recommended fluids and oem parts.

Note that it is built like the A Class based on sandwich principle, I.e. many engine parts are located under the car and not in the hood (for safety reasons, components in the hood slides under in case of accident instead of pushing against the driver). Benz specialists familiar with the A Class will have no problem with it. This however means a bit high labour cost.

Seems the ones that carry turbo are more fuel efficient. The turbo in this class is not for power but lesser fuel consumption. The variant with lower hp is fine if car will be used for city driving mostly.

Comes with CVT which seems ok like that of honda/toyota, yet to come across significant negative reviews. You can opt for manual if comfortable with shifting.

Deep bite!
A colleague uses the electro model and i was privileged to drive it 2wc and man, I fell in love with the mob.
I live in DE, I feel I can buy any part if it comes to that.
Thanks again man. My wife is reading this as well grin

I don't have 100% personal experience as regards this but what I will advise is that you focus on getting a Job after your program first, unless you have load of cash. Getting a job anywhere (not even in Bavaria) should not be hard since you mentioned B.Eng and I am therefore assuming your German proficiency is on point.
The load of cash here is because if you are trying to take on a dependant, it means you need to be able to cater for them (at least on paper).
If you are working as a student, you are mostly likely not doing it full-time for the whole year or during the 18 months, you don't have a sufficient contract acceptable at the foreign office. You will then need additional blocked account for the (each) dependant to address this.

For you to take on a dependant, it means:
1. Accommodation must be sufficient, I think the minimum is 14 sqm per head, depending on your present accommodation, you might need to 'upgrade' it for you to file for a dependant.
2. Health Insurance, I am not sure your present student subsidized health insurance can cover that for a dependant too.
3 Your net income needs to be sufficient.

However, since you are not working, the assumption is that you can't provide this for someone 'out-of-the-box' and hence the need for additional blocked account.

The Canada route is also viable but it has its own requirements and like someone mentioned already, family reunion takes time and the earlier she start the better.

Personally, I won't add a dependant if my own path is not close to 100% in terms of assurance yet but that is just me.

also, few people have had exceptional experience on part(s) of the requirements sha but just like any other thing, it is more of a miracle.

Healthy logic there..
From my own end are no cost problems. I haven´t paid my insurance for long, company pays, so i don´t really know the cost effect.
We´ve reached a logic gate.

Good evening Gentlemen and Ladies.

I am currently rounding up a B.Eng in few months and had planned bringing my wife around to join me (family reunion; before Easter) just because we´ve been apart long enough which we both find disturbing.

Our plans:
1. Having babies while i either look for/get a professional job or start my masters. Like everyone else, i have 18months to get a job or get into masters. But, she also want to work and support me. I wonder how this could turn out.
2. Ease to relocate if everything goes south; maybe moving to Canada/USA together if it comes to that. At the moment, i still want to try my might in DE.

I live and studied in Bayern (not Munich). People seem to prefer other big cities like Berlin, Hamburg, Köln, Dusseldorf. The advantages aren´t lucid to me since i´ve only lived here.
Though am not completely clueless with the immigration laws; i don´t want to end up being smart by half.
a) Does anyone have experience on this or knows anyone who brought in their spouse as a student/job seeker?
b) What are the basic things i might need to fix before being eligible to invite her? (Ausländerbehorde is yet to open, internet sources might just be a mirage/deceit). I need a firsthand info.

This is a serious decision for us, so i urge you guys to really give your best bite. She is a Nairalander too and she would be reading comments as well.

Danke/Thanks.
Career / Re: A Phd Or Medicine Bachelors At 30? by SooCute(m): 5:53pm On Jan 02, 2021
Emary:

I can't tell you to wait till she finishes child-bearing because one cannot predict when one will get pregnant. You have to consider how many children you want, whether you want to be very young parents, your financial situation and the support you will have raising the kids. It won't be easy to combine small children and pregnancies with study abroad because childcare is very expensive. Some people choose to leave infants in Nigeria or bring their parents abroad. Is that something you can afford? If you choose medicine, you'll probably have to wait for her to graduate to start the family but the financial reward is greater. If it's nursing, there is less time involved. It requires more thought and prayers.

Hmmmm, now this is a deep-bite embarassed
Career / Re: A Phd Or Medicine Bachelors At 30? by SooCute(m): 5:01pm On Jan 02, 2021
Emary:
She can practice medicine till she's 90 if she's strong enough so time is not a challenge. Only determination and cost. It will be difficult for her to have kids while studying medicine abroad so if that is one of your immediate goals, you might want to reconsider. However if you can wait till she's about 30 to start then you can go for it. There is racism everywhere but Germany is not too bad because they are very conscious of their Nazi history and are careful about it. A PHD in Nigeria is usually not worthwhile.

Dear Emary, thanks a lot for your insight. Yes for me, it is family first i.e., any decision we make should put us first.
If i understand the bolded correctly, did you mean wait till she finishes childbearing or wait till she finishes studying?

Imeela/Thanks/Danke

RSAV:
Good day. Of your 3 options, 2 are foreign studies. Have you considered the likely effects of the relocation of your wife? Since she's 23, I assume your marriage is still young.
2. A PhD in the courses you listed in your third option do not sound promising. Nigeria presently has thousands of unemployed (and under-employed) PhD holders and I'm sure you don't want your wife to join the stats.
3. Alternatively, why not invest in an area of her passion. If you invest right and grow it carefully, by the time she's 29, the investment would have grown really big. You'll both be proud.

Thanks alot for your input.
We wouldn´t subscribe to Nigerian education anyway.

I live in Germany. So it´s a way of bringing her closer even though i frequent Nigeria meanwhile. Asides that, i am flexible to relocate anytime/anywhere i like but i am not alone here. Otherwise, i still love Germany auf jedem falls

She tilts more towards your last suggestion (if it meant medicine or medical related). But we are looking for a cost friendly Eu Country/Canada Uni with USA as my last/worst option.

Career / A Phd Or Medicine Bachelors At 30? by SooCute(m): 9:59pm On Jan 01, 2021
Happy new year Nairalanders!
Here is cheers to another lifecycle.

I am here because i know there are geniuses in the house (as-well-as the others grin grin grin).

Here is my case:

My wife is a graduate of Hospitality and Tourism Management (BSc) from a Nigerian Uni. I am considering furthering her career this year and as immediate as possible.

We are in-between these options:

1. Starting a Medical undergraduate course oversees:
Since she´s 23 this year, pursuing a Medical degree will most likely elapse in about 6 years when she should be around 29.
This option was due to her alleged passion for healthcare (since childhood). Moreover, she didn´t opt for HTM bachelors, rather was a misplacement kinda... I wouldn´t want to deep-dive into. But, her Secondary School education was purely sciences and she cleaned it up with A´s and B´s.

2. Enrolling into a nursing training in Germany:
This would take 3years. I have little worries on racism. Again, the ease to further into nursing Bachelors so-to-say is still a question. Moreover, the language of instruction for this training is Deutsch which tampers her flexibility to switch countries too and be absorbed easily.

3. An MSc/PhD:
The option for MSc will most likely lead to a PhD in the end. An MSc in Entrepreneurship, Management, Business Administration etc would most likely take 2years. Furthering into PhD, another 4year when she would be 29.
She has a background in modeling. Have done stuffs for big brands like globacom, etc, won 3 crowns..(not necessary to mention)
Point is, she doesn´t really like those hype thing. Not active on social media. She just don´t think they are inevitable.

HINT:
From my observations, she likes to meet money target. Aside everything she says, she never misses business appointments. For me, this is what i doctored out of observing her nonverbal/verbal cues.

I have hinted on age here because some decisions might turnout not-so-profiting in the end when we realize we wouldn´t make the most with time left to practice the chosen career.
For me, it is important that she is flexible to relocate, tap into profitable career with growth possibility even though she still want to make money for Us grin grin grin grin

Please the concerned OPs, help me push this to the promised land.. or should i attach a snake photo

Greetings everyone and i hope this writeup meets expectation.

Information they say gives light; light for direction. This thread seeks insights and advices of whoever may have it; to enlighten me and of course fellow nairalanders on how to become a distributor/dealer of major brands in Nigeria.
I am particular about FMCGs brands like: Dangote (Indomie), Nestle (what my grandmother would call 'Tea'), Beloxxi (biscuit) and others i don´t know.

Having been a Nairalander for some time now, i believe this might be one of those topics we would find okay.

Please!!!

~What does it take to be a dealer/distributor of these brands in Nigeria?
~What are the pros and cons apart from expiry dates and accidents?

Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Nicklaus619:
Hello Nairalanders

This is my little experience with access bank today Garki market road and Area 3 Abuja branches.

Time check its 09:45
I was watching movies and lazying around lol
grin when March salary hit my phone, and as usual I decided to use my usual *901# code to transfer some funds into my beneficiaries account and boom, it wasn't working, I did it like 10 times and it was showing time out error, I got worried and tried it for the last time and it displayed, number not registered, then I was shocked because that's is the same phone number I have always used in making fund transfers and bill payment, then many thought was running wild in my head.

I picked up my self and dashed out to the bank, I arrived the bank at 10:15 am and I meet a crowd and they were observing zero social distancing outside the bank and I was given number 305 :I
I was like kuku kill me, and the sun was burning like hell,

I decided to check out another branch at area 3 garki abuja and I met crowd waiting hopelessly outside I was like what da hell, this is not even day one yet of the covid 19 lock down and it felt like the world is already collapsing grin,

I decided to collect another number to wait for my turn and I was given 173, funny enough big men and women with fast cars ain't given number, they just come and walk right in, and the rest of us outside will be raining insult on the security people grin

It ain't funny though, after what felt like forever, it got to my turn and I did all my transaction and left, time check 2:55pm

Guys the coming days will be very rough, I advice you all to go withdraw all the money u can and restock your kitchen, it will get to a point when it will become almost impossible to make withdrawals as average Nigerian will not want to save but withdraw these coming days and the bank will use network as an excuse not to load money in their ATM or pay through the counter.
Mode abeg move to wider audience to create awareness.

P.s other branches of banks are closing down, it's only few that was left open according to my observation.
