It is true this government made alot of promises that they couldn't keep and carried out several policies that where counterproductive. But the three major cause of this inflation are 1) fraudulent COVID 19 & the foolish lockdown. Time has shown that we where just screwed over by this people. Locking down the economy was a bad idea and it lead to high deficit spending by the government. 2) United States federal reserve policy of printing excessive money during the lockdown and exporting the debt by raising interest rate. This is possible because the dollar is the reserve currency of the world & that's why de-dollarisation is been championed 3) the war of attrition going on in Ukraine. The inflation is global not just in Nigeria. |
Sapele is very similar. In the 90s we had eternit, flour mill, ATP, BATA, mayflower, power generating company, a mini seaport, cinema at Olympia, athletic club with a standard golf course and several others. But today, none of that exist. The only company there is seplat(and there are indications that the intend to move operational base away). Insecurity had increase because of no job, na everyday dem dey kidnap person. All the beautiful estate built in those days done cast, infact, sapele na dead zone now. |

But how did Igbo interfere in Lagos politics? Did dey contest any political position? I thought the only thing they did was to come out and vote which is there civic right or did I miss something?. Are we saying it's now a crime for someone to vote in there area of residence? Is it only the Igbos that voted against the ruling party in Lagos? I do not like the direction this is going, initially I thought it was the usual political banters that will disappear after election but boy was I wrong. We have seen this before, prior to 1967 the air around the country was thick with this kind of caustic sentiment that eventually led to the death of more than 3million Nigerians. Is history about to repeat itself or are men about to repeat history? This is dangerous, it should stop. Everyone who loves peace and prosperity should make the concious decision to desist for hateful statement that serves no purpose but temptation. Let everyone go about his business with decency and tranquility. Please let us do everything in our power to avoid conflict. Our common enemy should be bad government, the criminally minded and the intolerant. |
Hmmm, this very election has expose the rotten underbelly of the average Nigeria. Politicians have their objective which is to win election and advance their self-interest and to achieve this, they employ any means necessary such as division through tribal sentiment. But for the average Nigeria, what is really their objective? What exactly do they seek to achieve with this deep rooted ethnic distrust? Does it advance their career or ambition? Does it enhance their life in anyway? What is really the endgame here? In the pursuit of happiness, what those tribal sentiment and distrust contribute? For the politicians, I can understand but for the ordinary citizens, it's just buffoonery. |
It is said, if you're going through hell, keep going. Stopping or turning back now on this monetary policy that have been set in motion will be counter productive. This was the error of the Jonathan administration, they should have gone through with the subsidy removal at that time despite the protest. Sometimes, a leader must do what is right and not what the people like. |
olab059:This statement would have been valid 15yrs ago. The current tinubu is incapable of administering the affairs of the country effectively. It will just be another proxy government like the current one. |

Poverty and Religion In the parable of the talent (Matthew 25:14-30), the distribution of the talents was diverse; some received more than others. This is a fact not an evil; Equality is not a godly concept, equity is. Interestingly, in the parable, the person who is chastised is the one who refused to put his talents to productive purpose and ironically, it happens to be the one with the least talent. What is this telling us? 1) Part of the drama and risk of human life is that we must learn how to produce a sufficiency and an abundance of what we need. 2) Wealth those not exist, talent those. Wealth is created using talent, work and discipline. 3)Not every idea, work or technique produces abundance or wealth. There is this vibe I get from some religious folks; it is as if they believe poverty is noble and wealth is sin. They come up with every crafty invention to justify the existence of poverty and to denigrate wealth creation as if anything is wrong with it. Maybe this is so because to some, poverty becomes the last refuge of meaning in their world already devoid of any form of purpose. That why you hear many say with delight, “I work for the poor.” what does that even mean? A consequence of this is that the poor are hardly seen as lacking good initiative, or good judgment, or the will for ordinary hard work, but rather as the legitimation of organization for service, a service that only seek to give fish and bread and hardly tries to teaching on how to fish and bake. Another wrong is tell people that the reason the rich are rich is because of destiny, that they are involve in a great crime, that the engage in ritual sacrifice to the devil, or that it is because of their prayers and donation in God. Instead, teach them that the rich are rich because they know how to be productive, because they have the discipline, values, energies, opportunities, talents, and desires to be some-thing other than poor. And the best chance the poor have in escaping their poverty is the rich. Again, the last thing the poor need is a religion or an ethic that suggests to them that their poverty is due to the limitation of world resources, or to the moral failure of others or even the unforeseen hand of a deity. Work produce wealth, wealth are spent for beauty or charity or more capital. If nobody has anything, nothing can be freely given up and if nothing can be given up, charity, an element of religious sacrifice becomes meaningless. Then we all will exist in collective misery. Moreover, if we have nothing, we cannot reveal our character in the way we use our wealth and time. Again, It is most contemptuous to tell the poor who want to get rid of his poverty that it’s is all right to be where they are. Godliness and contentment must be a voluntary act and you can only be content in what you have acquired/achieved. No man is contented with nothing. The truth is that the real poor people are only interested in those who have learnt how not to be poor. Those who volunteered (some actually do) to be poor should know this. Poverty is meaningless if not volunteered. In fact, the concept of religious poverty as practice by some monk is to show that worldly goods, however defined or accumulated, are not by themselves adequate to satisfy the human spirit. After all, man shall not live by bread alone. Although poverty might indicate a sacrifice of what otherwise might be, it can also mean a failure to learn how to improve the world. It is true that not every system, ideas or endeavor will produce wealth; nevertheless, what is most needed is an accurate understanding of how wealth came to be, the abundance we see is a natural result of man's relationship to the world when he uses his mind and his hand and his resources. after all, reality is the mathematics of time and money. Having said this, what everyone should keep in mind is that the virtuous are not necessarily the rich or the poor, but those who, rich or poor, have chosen the right things in their lives. Living right is righteousness [ |

hmmmmm. OK, let us use the analogy of a computer; a working computer is made up of hardware and software. it's powered by electric charge stored in the battery. the electric power is the spirit, the hardware is the body, and the soft ware is the mind . together it's called a computer system(the soul). thus the soul is the whole/entire being. |

SUPERPACK:I'm seriously thinking in this direction. |
I don’t know what the problem is with my supervisor, he doesn’t want money and he refuses to let me go. I’m thinking of doing something terrible I know I will regret later. I have spent 7 years and counting pursuing a master’s and yet there is no end in sight. I started my master’s program 2012. When we started, I paid only part of the school fees so I was not given a registration number, nevertheless I was able to complete all my courses and seminar defense with the supervision of my supervisor; there was no issue up till this point. When It was time for my project work, the topic was supplied my assistant supervisor, the project design was agreed by both; the bench work was supervised by the assistant and the statistical analysis was done by my supervisor after I paid him 13k. he initially rejected the result on the ground that he does not know what I did since he was not the one that supervised. It took the persuasion of the assistant supervisor before he accepted. I don’t know if this is where the whole problem started. When it was for the internal defense, I had to go and clear my fees so my result can be processed with my registration number. Having done that I went back to the PG coordinator to check my result again, only to was when discovered a course was missing and the coordinator of the course was my supervisor. Now, here is where I made my first mistake, as the issues was piling up, i left the program for a year and six month to attend to business. I came back to the program on the advice of family and friend. I went to meet my supervisor about the issue of missing result, from missing result it became a case of missing script. My answer booklet could not be found and to think that we were less than 17 people that wrote the exam was all the more shocking. Another shocking thing is that it was only my own that was missing out of everybody who wrote the exam. To make matter worse, he accused me of not writing the exam, I was only saved by the attendance sheet that showed I participated. From here on, he started taking things personal, he said there is nothing he can do for me that I should forget the program. I took the case to the dean of science; it was resolve that I should rewrite the exam as long as I am ready to pay another school fees. This was acceptable by me but my supervisor was vehemently opposed to it. After much pressure from above, he bulged. I wrote the paper of which he was one of the lecturers. I was barely fortunate to pass with a score of 51. Nevertheless I was OK with it, at least my result can now be processed so I can defend and go. When I returned to my supervisor to tell him about the recent development concerning my result, his countenance changed. It was as if he was not happy that I passed, but that didn’t bother me much. I told him what is left is my project work; he needed to sign on it and submit to the department so I can be scheduled for defense, but he said he is not going to sign. By this time I was already getting frustrated with his attitude and actions coupled with the fact that I was beginning to suspect he had a hand in my missing script debacle (the coincidence is just too much to ignore). So right there in his office, I made my second mistake by allowing my frustration get the better of me; I raised my voice at him and I also accused him of frustrating my effort to his face. He said because of that I will never complete my program. The next day I went to apologized to him but he refuse to see me, I narrated my situation to other lecturers in the department to intervene on my behalf but he is adamant. So right now, I am thinking about abandoning the program but when I consider how far I have come and how much time and effort I have invested I get angry. My other thought says I should get even. I am completely bitter and angry about the whole matte, i just don’t know where to go from here. Any sound counsel from and body will be highly welcomed. |
chigalakingsley: I thought OP was making sense at first. Any person of any religion doing good because of an afterlife isn't human enough to me.. Reward is what drives every endeavors of man of man, it is called the profit motive. Religion been just another endeavors has its own reward. for Christianity, it's the gift of eternal life. |
dionysus7: lol firstly, you need to demonstrate that god exists, secondly, which god we should include and which we should exclude in human governance and state your reasons, then we compare to other arguments from believers of other gods and let them know why their gods are irrelevant but a certain one is. then we can proceed from there I'm talking about religious freedom, i'm not endorsing an God or religion. |
LandlordHopeful: My point is that human right (which all government was formed to protect) should have no political conception.it must not be seen as a political concept at all but as a divine one. The reason been that human right is tied with the origin of man, if man’s origin is from God, then human right is God given and can only be denied by God himself. But if man’s origin is by chance, human right is a product of political arrangement and so can also be denied by similar arrangement. I for one do not want to place my rights in the hands of any man talk less of politician. |
First of all, no government is supposed to be seen endorsing (even tacitly) any religion since every state is assumed to be secular. Having said this, the way things are going in this world, it will not be long before we hear that the word "God" should be completely remove from every aspect of the constitution and community life. I’m saying this because of the ever increasing disenchantment with organize religion, the annoying flamboyant life still of some preachers against the depravity of the many, religious extremism/terrorism and the expanding capacity of science and technology which is leading many to choose the path of atheism. As the population and influence of organize religion dwindles, that of the the atheist are on the increase and many among them are beginning to nurse the idea that God should be completely remove from the constitution and religion should be obliterated. The reasons they give is that, religion is the cause of so many wars and suffering. But of all the disposition and habit which leads to political prosperity, religion and morality are an indispensable support. Let us as reasoning people consider without prejudice some of the possible consequence of removing “God” from the constitution and religion from people’s life. (1) BREAKDOWN OF DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLE: The establishments of independence as well as the principle of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are clearly defined in the preamble of the declaration of independence as having been endowed to all men by their creator. This is to say that each of us has a natural right from God which includes: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It was because this right exist that caused men to make laws to protect them, thus, giving birth to government. So if we are to discard the belief in God as some people insist we do, what are we going to attribute to be the source of human right? (2) IT CAN LEAD TO TYRANNY: with the origin of right, there can be only two possible options which are: right can be God given as part of the divine plan or they are granted by the government as part of the political plan. So if God is to be removed from this life and we accept that human right are granted by the government, we must be willing to accept the corollary that they can be denied by that same government. Imagine how frightening that will be. A case in check is North Korea where the supreme leader is the judge, jury and the executioner. North korea is even lucky given that it’s a homogeneous population. If the situation was to play out in Nigeria with all it various tribe and smoldering resentment, there will be carnage. So reason and necessity should lead us to accept the divine origin of human right. (3) EXPLOSION OF ANARCHY like I previously stated, morality and religion goes hand in glove, and morality serve as a check against anarchy. How? You may ask, now consider this scenario, hungry john was walking down the street, he sees a couple and he robs them of their cash. Good, bad or neither? To john who has no conscience to protect and God to please, the only fear will be getting caught and punished for breaking the law and to make matters worse, there is absolutely no reason for him not to do that now but previously, his moral compass tempered by religion and the promise of afterlife would have prevented him from such. When people don’t have a reason to uphold moral fiber such as believe in the afterlife to work toward, then a large number will choose to disregard any existing moral since there are no real benefit in things like honesty, kindness, patience and long suffering. Most will pursue self interest no matter who is affected. The only motivation will be money and pleasure. (4) CREATION OF A POLICE STATE: When the Situation degenerate into a full scale breaks down of law and order, the government will be force to introduce extreme measures. Since nobody can be trusted, every citizen have to be watched round the clock, there will be complete surveillance, camera will have to be fixed at every corner inhabited by man. Every human activity (including the most mundane things like going to the toilet) will be monitored to keep society in check; a lot of the freedom will have to be sacrifice which leads us to the final point. (5) LOSS OF FREEDOM: right to privacy and freedom from unwarranted search and seizures, freedom of speech and assembly, freedom from discriminatory treatment based on race, religion, ethnicity, political belief or even societal status will be all gone. Granted, abuse of freedom or civil liberty by people in power have been going on since time immemorial but it will happen at an unimaginable scale if believe in GOD is criminalize. Government will be more interested in preserving their power at the expense of those being govern and since right was given by the government as part of the political plan, it can as well be denied by that same government for the same reason. So reason, believe and necessity leads me to accept the divine origin of right, and there can be no divine origin of right without an acknowledgement of GOD. |
