From what i have experienced, the first time you wanna recharge your meter or buy electricity, you are to pay a fee which will be the cost of the electricity that came with the new meter.

In my case, i didn't know this and thought the electricity was free. So after using it and went back to buy electricity, i was told i must pay for the one i used before i can buy more.

Examination malpractice is an offence sir, infact in my alma mater you can even be handed over to the police in the case of malpractice involving impersonation (but I may be wrong sir since it's your field and I believe you have years of experience). But in this case sir, the university had initially admitted that all her exams were devoid of malpractice (from the invigilator's form) and she also passed. For them to turn around to contradict their earlier position requires solid proof not just based on a "confession on a shirt"

This case is not only about malpractice sir.

Character which is one of the prerequisite for graduating from a university is missing from this girl.
She can be disqualified on that basis.
No lawyer worth the onions will take up the case

The school may not find evidence that she did malpractice but remember graduating is not all about learning, its also about character. Its part of what she signed when she matriculated.

By telling the whole world she did malpractice, the school can use that as an excuse of not graduating her because she falls short of the standard character a student must have to graduate.

Anyways, the school holds the aces in this case.

I definitely agree with you on parents needing to be around during those early years but to say boarding school breeds cultists and gays is the most absurd thing I ever heard. I dont know about Nigeria but in Cameroon most boarding schools are run by Christian Missions. Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Full Gospel and the Apostolic church. At the bolded I dont think you have been to a boarding school. The are well laid down disciplinary structures from class cordinators to dormitory captains to prefects and then house masters. During siesta even in the absence of a house master no student can be seen loitering or not in bed..There is self consciousness.

Some of these schools have been in existence as far back as 1948. I went to a Presbyterian mixed mission boarding school in the late eighties and early nineties. I have a daughter in a Catholic all girls Mission school... Most parents send their kids to these schools for quality results and dependency. The best results in Cameroon do come from Mission boarding school with well behaved kids. Isolated incidents of lesbiansm is not enough to tag them as a reservoir for lesbians . As for cultism it is not a Cameroonian problem..

I only know of two government boarding schools in Cameroon with the majority of students being day students. There are also private boarding schools that receive recalcitrant children in a bid to mould them up..

I have experienced life in boarding school and i can tell you students always find a way around these "strict" rules put out by the school.
It doesn't take long to see those above these rules and how they go about it.
Some of those promoting these vices are actually current staff of these boarding schools who are most likely wolves in sheep clothings.

A house mistress who is a lesbian will definitely find it easy recruiting girls placed under her care.
Boys who wants to have their way and beat the security system of the school can tip them with enticing gifts etc.

Nobody is refuting your claim that the school cannot punish her severely. The point people are trying to make is that the punishment is over the top. Like someone said, if this case goes to court with decent lawyers backing the girl, UNIBEN will lose the case.
The girl messed up no doubt, but the punishment is too extreme.
Look at my post above to see what i suggested as a fairer punishment for the girl.

Uniben is not going to punish her based on presentation of evidence that she did malpractice.

The basis of whatever punishment will be dished to her will be falling short of what is required in "character " to graduate/given certificate from/of the school.

Omo you no fit argue the case for court because the school reserves the right to determine the standard of character a student must have to earn their certificate.

Being caught doing malpractice in school is different from coming out on social media and telling the whole world that you did malpractice while you just moment away from being given your certificate.

The lecturers, the HOD of her department, the Dean of faculty, the registrar, the VC, the governing council of the school, alumni etc.

I know of people that were caught doing malpractic while i was in school and they get punished in several ways. Some re-sit the exam, some get 2 or 3 semesters suspension etc.

But her case different wella.

She be original scapegoat.
If the school will be lenient, she go do TV, social media, newspaper, radio presentation/video saying she was joking and apologizing for bringing the school's image into disrepute.

The early years of learning e.g childhood to teenage years requires the learner to be strictly monitored on an individual basis to instill moral and social discipline into the learner.

A boarding house housekeeper barely have time to do this.
It is very easy for your child to become a cultist, lesbian, gay, hooligan, rapist , drug abuser etc in a boarding school. The housekeeper has his/her own limits where he/she turns their back.

Claiming she was involved in malpractice while in school doesn't show positive character. On that ground, she can be denied her certificate.

I personally believe if she has a good lawyer, she would go scot-free. For the action the school took to be valid, there must be evidence of malpractice, as in solid evidences like witnesses, malpractice material (phone, microchips, textbook etc) etc. That she wrote it on her clothes is not valid enough to make her guilty, any body can write anything. For instance, if I write on my shirt "I am a yahoo boy" does it mean I would go to jail for Internet fraud. The highest the law enforcement agency can do, is try to investigate me in order to get solid evidences which would be presented to the judge. Presenting my shirt where I wrote "I am a yahoo boy" to the judge as their only evidence would be toss into the thrash can!!!!

Graduating from uniben is not only in learning but in character as well. One of the dean once said this statement when one of the students though very brilliant was overly rude and proud.

The student ended up doing 8 years instead of five for a 5 year course and only graduated after he became humble.

She may have been joking when she wore that shirt but that action brought the school to disrepute.
Her certificate may be withheld.
