i dont see the reason for the denials.

an ideology doesnt discriminate based on tribe.

if your life goal is the destruction of nigeria, or militant jihad, then i think anyone with that ideology will join whichever organization can help him achieve that goal.

operating with the idiom the enemy of your enemy is your friend.

besides, i pointed out before that boko haram is also guarding the trafficking routes to north africa from southern nigeria and beyond.

so why is it surprising to find southerners in the north, or a northern/foreign organization be it a terrorist one.

No one is denying anything. We need his name, and similar report in other newspapers, without which the article is suspect. Give me his name and the argument is settled.
At the end of the day, the bottom line will be his religion. 99.999% of Igbos are christians/traditionalists; this Igbo Boko Haram (if the story is true) is an outlier. He must have been kidnapped and tortured to not only become a muslim, but to join BH, so that the northern BH will bring out such propaganda to justify their actions

A stark nonentity like Alj Harem needs no response
That said, folks should remember Sanusi and his:
''Igbo man invested in Sharia Bank''
''Igbo state (Anambra) got a loan from Sharia Bank''
Blah! blah!! Blah!!
Now ''Igbo man is Boko Haram''
Who really is the author of the article, Oluokun Ayorinde? What is his affiliation? What are his antecedents? Was the same story contained in other newspapers?
Who is that Igbo man in BH? What is his name? A muslim or a christian? If a muslim, how did he become one? Was he forced to become a muslim? Was he forced to be a BH man? We need all these variables

These terrorist muslims are looking for straw to clutch on

UN House bombing: Security chiefs must go –Sara-Igbe • Says 70% Northern leaders support Boko Haram
By Daniel Alabrah (danuzi1@yahoo.com)

Sunday, September 4, 2011

Fury continues to trail the August 26, 2011 bombing of the United Nations House in Abuja, which left no fewer than two dozen innocent souls dead. More than triple that number were injured and are still hospitalized, with their lives virtually hanging on a thread.

But the anger is not only directed at the purveyors of death - Boko Haram - which claimed responsibility for the bestiality. Security expert, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, contends that with the current security apparatus in the country, Nigeria will never win the war against its newest challenge – terrorism, which Boko Haram typifies.

Fuming as he spoke to Sunday Sun, the former state security adviser to the erstwhile Rivers State Governor, Dr Peter Odili, insists there is need for a total overhaul of the country’s security agencies. He says: “The security team does not listen to advice. I think the most appropriate thing to do is to resign. All of them should resign; they have failed Nigeria… if I were any of them, I won’t wait for the President to sack me. I will sack myself.”

Bombing will continue

Yes, the bombing will continue because we are dealing with an organization that is linked with Al-Qaeda. Sometime in 2009, precisely on August 9, 2009, Mallam Sani Umaru, the acting head of Boko Haram, issued a statement in which he confirmed that Boko Haram is an arm of Al-Qaeda. He stated and I quote: “Boko Haram does not in any way mean ‘Western education is a sin’ as the infidel media continue to portray us. Boko Haram actually means ‘Western civilization is forbidden.’ The difference is that while the first gives the impression that we are opposed to formal education coming from the West, that is Europe, which is not true, the second affirms our believe (sic) in the supremacy of Islamic culture (not education), for culture is broader. It includes education but not determined by Western education.

“Boko Haram is an Islamic Revolution, which impact is not limited to Northern Nigeria. In fact, we are spread across all the 36 states in Nigeria, and Boko Haram is just a version of the Al-Qaeda, which we align with and respect. We support Osama bin Laden. We shall carry out his command in Nigeria until the country is totally Islamised, which is according to the wish of Allah.

“We have started a Jihad in Nigeria, which no force on earth can stop. The aim is to Islamise Nigeria and ensure the rule of the majority Muslims in the country. We will teach Nigeria a lesson, a very bitter one.

“From the month of August (2009), we shall carry out series of bombing in Southern and Northern Nigerian cities, beginning with Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu and Port Harcourt. The bombing will not stop until Western civilisation is wiped off from Nigeria. We will not stop until these evil cities are tuned into ashes.”

Incompetent security agencies

Since that statement was issued in August 2009, there have been series of bombings. What is baffling is that despite these threats, the Nigerian security agencies have not taken the warnings serious. The Nigerian state does not take care of its citizens. It does not protect the lives and property of Nigerians. The security agencies we have are not competent. I have said before now that the police lack the capacity to handle terrorism. The Nigeria Police does not have the capacity to combat terrorism.

Security chiefs must resign

Terrorism is a terrible crime in the world. The whole security and intelligence system in Nigeria has collapsed to the level that they don’t know the right thing to do. The security team also does not listen to advice. I think the most appropriate thing to do is to resign. All of them should resign; they have failed Nigeria. I don’t know how the security issue is being handled. But if I were any of them, I won’t wait for the President to sack me. I will sack myself. I mean the NSA, the IGP, the SSS boss and all of them.

Terrorism needs a strong security unit. All over the world, there is a way terrorism is handled and not the way Nigeria is going about it. They must learn from other countries and set up a counter-terrorism unit. If there was a counter-terrorism unit, what is happening today would not have happened.

Gaddafi precipitate Al-Qaeda link

Gaddafi is a sponsor of terrorism in the world and some of the rebels in Somalia and Libya. If a country is seen as being that anti-Muslim, there is the likelihood that it could be a target of terrorist attack. Nigerian government’s support for the rebels fighting Gaddafi in Libya could be a factor for the recent bombing. They believe that Nigeria is anti-Islamic state and nothing more.

President needs to be forceful

They should bring people that are proactive to do the job. The president is not forceful enough to fight terrorism and is not commanding respect. If they know that you will deal with them squarely, they know their limitation. But we have not seen a forceful statement from the government. You don’t negotiate with terrorists.

Seventy per cent of Northerner leaders support Boko Haram

Northern leaders are pretenders. I can tell you that 70 per cent of Northern leaders support Boko Haram. They are just pretenders. How can Kano State governor say they should release Boko Haram suspects because of a threat to bomb Kano when no one has been tried for all these acts of terrorism in the country? What he is saying is that those carrying out those barbaric acts should not be taken to court. So if somebody commits a crime that should be punished and is not arrested, they will continue to commit more crime. The President must be decisive. Boko Haram should not be treated with kid gloves.

If nothing is done now, we should expect more bombings and sporadic shooting in most part of the North as the activities of Boko Haram has the support of most of the Northern elite and political class who are opposed to the emergence of Dr Jonathan as President of the country.

Counter-Terrorism Unit as way forward

Terrorism is becoming a major threat across the world. With the activities of Boko Haram in the different parts of northern Nigeria, including Abuja, the need for an elite Counter- Terrorism Unit is more crucial than ever. Throughout the world, government and the military set up small elite tactical units for the purpose of dealing with terrorist threats.

Across the globe, many countries have their CTUs tasked with the duty to neutralize terrorist threats. For example, the United States of America has four main units tasked with counter-terrorism and they are the FBI, the Navy Seal also known as the Delta Force, the DEVGRU also known as “Seal Team 6”or the Special 27 Force Operation Detachment Delta (SFOD-D), and the CIA-Special Activities Division (SAD). The units that are tasked with counter-terrorism in Britain are called Special Air Service (SAS) and Counter Terrorism Command. In Germany, GSG-9+, Police SEK/ MEK and USK are in charge of eliminating terrorist threat and counter-terrorism, while in Israel YAMAM-elite Israeli police anti-terror unit, S-13 (Israel Navy Seal), which is also called Devedun or Mistaarvim-IDF and Boarder Guard are responsible for counter-terrorism, foiling terrorism, hostage rescue, undercover for foiling terrorism and intelligence gathering.

In view of the current security threat in Nigeria, the enviable role played by Nigeria in peace keeping across the globe and Nigeria in the international oil politics, there is need for a CTU that will be responsible for checking the activities of international and local terrorist organizations in the country and around the borders.

The CTU should be under the command of a Director, who will have operational autonomy and control from the National Security Adviser (NSA) who’ll report directly to the President and Commander-in-Chief. Administratively, it will be under the command of the NSA, who shall be responsible for all posting and supervision of the unit.

In addition to the CTU, the Nigerian Military High Command may set up tactical commands as Special Anti or Counter Terrorist Units that will be responsible for counter terror, foiling terror, undercover, policing, monitoring, surveillance, intelligence gathering and analysis, bomb disposal, suspected package investigation, para-trooping and anti-terrorist command. The units can act as counter terrorist agents in Nigeria and should be tailored toward the British 22 Special Air Service (SAS) and that of the USA Delta Force or SFOD-D. They should be trained to conduct direct actions and reconnaissance missions.

Virtually all information about the unit, details of specific mission and operations must be classified and not publicly available. The CTU must be well funded and equipped with modern digital equipment, tools, technology and human resource that are experienced in security, military, para-trooping, bomb disposal, guerrilla warfare, nuclear technology, navigation, driving all forms of vehicles, boats, ships, air plane and trains, information technology, communication, intelligence, forensic investigation, surveillance, monitoring and policing nationwide.

We must bring together all data so far collected in the National Identity Card scheme, Driver’s License, INEC Voters Registration and the details in the bank account opening records to kick-start a national data bank for security purposes. There is also the need for the country to set up an institute of forensic science to train forensic scientists. For us to move forward as a nation, we must develop a data base containing the name, address, parentage, biometrics like finger prints, facial recognition, genetics, DNA of citizens and foreigners that live in or visit the country.

The setting up of the CTU will, to a large extent, reduce the activities of criminals, who in the past committed crimes without being detected.

They hijacked a plane filled with fellow Nigerians a few years ago. Then recently a Yoruba bombed Lagos trying to kill a pastor whom he claimed owed him money.

Who eats Ofada rice except poor Yorubas? Ofada rice is nothing but stone-filled, badly processed, cheap rice. Even Abakaliki rice is far better. 90% of the rice consumed in Nigeria are imported.

Nemesis caught up with a girl of about 24 years old, who was suspected to have kidnapped a five-year-old Master Victor Eze. The girl, who gave her name as Bimbo Owoyemi, was caught at Suru bus stop by a commercial motorcyclist, Mr Obinna Nshiegbe, when she wanted to cross the Lagos - Badagry expressway to board a vehicle to her destination.

Nsiegbe told Saturday Sun that when the girl was coming towards his direction with strap on her back, curiously, he noticed that the boy was crying and struggling to come down and as a result, he sensed that something was amiss .

According to him, he immediately intervened and asked the suspect to know what was going on and in the process, the little boy owned up that the young lady picked him on his way back from holiday lesson at a school around Goriola Street, Ajegunle in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area and forced him to follow her to an unknown destination.

“What happened today surprised me. We were at our okada park at about 11.45 am and I sighted the lady with a boy on her back. What drew my attention was that the boy was crying and struggling to get freedom, yet the lady refused and held him very tight. Having seen that the boy is old enough to walk on his own, I went to meet her to know why the boy was struggling. The boy opened up and told me that the lady picked him from Ajegunle on his way back from school”.

Nshiegbe further stated that the lady attacked him when he intervened probably he had come to truncate her evil plans. “When I called her to find out, she attacked me claiming that the boy was her son, but I did not agree because there was no resemblance among two of them. So after all, she succumbed and admitted kidnapping the boy

ßIt took the intervention of policemen on duty at the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), yard at Suru and some passers by to stop the suspected kidnapper from being lynched by angry mob that quickly gathered at the scene.
The boy and the suspect kidnapper were taken to Orile Police Station and during interrogation, the suspect claimed that the boy is her son and that she lives at No. 2, Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos. She refused to give further information about her reason for such act. Speaking in pidgin English, the suspect said, “My name na Bimbo Owoyemi, I dey live for No. 2 Toyin Street for Ikeja. Nobody send me. I pick the boy because na my pickin”.

When interviewed, Victor said that he did not know the suspect and does not know where she was taking him to. “I do not know her. She dragged me to follow her when I was returning from lesson and I started to cry because I did not know where she was taking me. I did not understand what was going on. I remembered my mummy and daddy, but I could not see them. It was when people gathered and removed me from her back that I knew what happened”.
Victor who was still with his school bag on his back was panicking and eager to meet his parents.
As at the time of filing this report, the Orile police were investigating the matter

They live like paupers in their fatherland. Yet they are bona fide, law-abiding citizens of Nigeria. Their only sin is that they are resident at Aboru, a sprawling community in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Recent checks by Daily Sun revealed shocking details of the wretched life daily lived by hundreds of thousands of Aboru residents.

Aboru’s woes, some claim, are man-made. Man-made because much of their problems are caused by lack of good drainage system, exploitation of natural resources in the area and poorly erected buildings, among others.

Many years ago, sand traders had exploited the town, ridding it of all the sand that would have left its topography normal like every other place. Consequently, a major part of the community has been devastated by gully erosion; that makes it vulnerable to flooding whenever it rains.

While many Lagosians live in well-built, ventilated and barricaded homes, 99 per cent of Aboru residents live in shanties, easily assailed by the element like wind, sun, and rain. Petty thieves as well as robbers easily prey on the unfortunate people, living in the ramshackle buildings.
Worse still, government officials hardly get to the place during periodic inspections of communities because it is almost lost in the far end of Alimosho. Thus, Aboru’s gullies and other problems are totally shut out from government.

A first time caller could mistake Aboru for a hilly land bonded to its neighbouring towns by a wide-threatening canal. But further checks would reveal that Aboru is a remote town situated in a valley in Alimosho. The inhabitants of this part are usually the worst hit whenever there is flooding or other natural disasters.
Even when there is no rain, Aboru remains a lost island. Mosquitoes building their larvae in still waters, maggots, cockroaches, insects and other parasites hold sway in the area as residents squat and huddle together in rooms not spacious enough to accommodate half of their occupants.

Pitiable sights of children afflicted with kwashiorkor, gaunt-looking old ones, idling away and hungry looking middle-aged folks as well as youths, lamenting the poor, irritating state of their environment, are common features that shock callers to Aboru. The flood that ravaged Aboru on July 29 brought untold grief to the people as tears flowed down the faces of many. Thousands became homeless and many more were bereaved.

Chief Salami Bamgbopa, the paramount ruler of Aboru, told Daily Sun: “The calamity that daily befall my people is unbearable. The recent flood caused untold havoc. We have had to bury many, who lost their lives in the flood. Others got drowned and were not found. Those who narrowly survived dying in the flood lost property, and many have become homeless. This is not the first time we are experiencing this, but it is the worst so far. It is only the government that can help us now.”

One of Chief Bamgbopa’s sons, who also lamented the woes that usually befall Aboru residents, said: “The flood of that day could only be compared to what happened during Noah's time. Many houses were destroyed. In fact, we just buried a man beside the canal after we found his body there a few days after the flood. A high chief of this community lost his house to the flood. He and his wife and children had to jump through the window of the house when they discovered it was going to collapse.
“To save themselves from death, many had to jump through the windows or rooftops of their houses to escape as others fled the town, abandoning their homes. Those who lost their homes and had no clothes were left at the mercy of neighbours and churches, who contributed clothes for them.

“We even lost count of the number of children that were lost to the flood. It is so painful. The major cause of the flood is the canal that runs from Abattoir in Agege through this town to Command area of Alagbado. It was well dug and cemented from Abbatoir but from Alabede, an entrance to this town, the canal is so shallow that when the rain gets too heavy it leads to flood and brings pain to us.”
Mrs. Agbodade, wife of a prominent community leader and High Chief Akogun of Aboru, Chief Kehinde Agboade, who lost his house and property to the flood, told Daily Sun how her family became homeless.

Said she: “July 10 will forever remain in our memory for the wrong reason. The rain had begun about 10am and it was like a play when it continued till evening when the flood came calling. By that time people were already leaving their houses and moving up to the hilly side. Many who did not realise the danger, lurking around and who stayed a little while had to sacrifice their lives and their children’s. So many things were lost to the flood. Although many survived by passing through their windows and rooftops, a lot of people lost their lives.

At Emmanuel Aina, Street, more than six people got drowned and at Alabe Okunola, not less than 15 lives were lost. A case in particular that was so pathetic was of a certain woman, named Iya Ibeju, who lost one of her teenage children. Her relatives have since admitted her at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) since she went into coma after watching her child drown in the flood.
“It is more appalling that days later, we found dead bodies brought to the shore by the water. Many of us have been forced to be sleeping in the houses of relatives, friends and neighbours since we lost our homes.”

“Another painful thing is that Aboru’s CDA has gone to lodge complaints at the Government House in Alausa on countless occasions but nothing has happened. All we get is visitation by some people who usually say they are from the government. They would interview us and take our photographs like you are doing now. And that will be all.
“The only solution to the problem is for the government to dig the canal that runs from Abattoir in Agege. If only they could do the canal the way it was done in Agege, things would be better for us.”

Alhaji Jamiu Iwapele, a resident of Aboru, whose house was also affected by the flood, shed tears as he told his story to Daily Sun. Said he: “It appeared the government has abandoned us here. Everything that those other people you interviewed told you has been reported to all the government officials who have been here. Our community development executives have visited Alausa secretariat times without number but the government has taken no meaningful action. The most painful thing is that this is not something that we can do because we are too poor to handle it. It is just for the government to help dig the canal through which this water floods our area. They should sand-fill the gully and help in building some of our shanties.

The canal is the one that runs from Abattoir in Agege through Ipaja and Aboru here to command area in Alagbado. From Alabede, which is the entrance to Aboru through Iyana-Ipaja, the canal was not well dug. It is so shallow and not cemented and that is why the water that escapes from Agege, Agbotikuyo, Abbattoir, Iyana-Ipaja and environs rushs down here to settle, turning this place into a big reservoir.”

Crime / Fake Doctor Of South West Nigerria Arrested After Botched Surgery by SouthEast1: 5:24am On Aug 22, 2011
35-yr-old female fake doctor in police net *Operated woman with fibroid who died 3hrs after surgery

Written by Oluwatoyin Malik
Sunday, August 21, 2011

Like any typical African woman, Alhaja Basirat Animasaun loved children but was unable to have the number she desired because of a gynaecological problem she had. She had been told she had fibroid which had hindered conception after she had a set of twins. That her first marriage collapsed did not hinder her hope as she believed that once the fibroid was out of the way, getting a man to marry to make a baby would not be a problem.

The suspect, 'Dr' Mrs Adetola Adesina-Oluiwo.

According to information gathered, she had been to different hospitals to operate the fibroid but it always grew back without her achieving the pregnancy she so much desired. Determined not to give up, Alhaja Animasaun was happy when a muslim cleric, Alfa Mansur, who she had known for almost two decades recently introduced a woman she met in his house as a 'doctor'. Hope arose in her as she thought the female 'doctor'could be of help where other doctors had failed. She contacted the 'doctor' she was introduced to and she was billed N60,000 for the surgery. Glad that a solution was in sight, she quickly got the money together and paid everything ahead of the surgery, unknown to her that she had set herself on the path of death.

On the day slated for the surgery, she went into the 'clinic', located in a local setting at Olomi area of Ibadan, Oyo State. Another 'doctor' was invited for the surgery and she was taken to the 'theatre' for operation. Unfortunately, less than four hours after the surgery, the woman gave up the ghost.

Her family members however refused to accept Alhaja Animasaun's death as an happenstance as they believed that the 'doctors' who handled her were not competent. Pronto, they wrote a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Moses Onireti, to assist the family in bringing the so-called doctors to justice.

Based on this, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku in Oyo State Police Command is currently interrogating the fake doctor who operated the 45-year-old woman. The 'doctor', Mrs Adetola Adesina-Oluiwo, in connivance with another 'doctor', 'Dr' Agboola Adeyemi performed the surgery on Tuesday August 9.

While interrogating the suspect, Adesina-Oluiwo, she had told the police officers that she read medicine at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and did her housemanship at General Hospital, Kebbi State. She added that she was a consultant who specialised in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. However, when an unknown caller got in touch with the suspect's Investigative Police Officer, he pleaded that 'Nurse Joke' should be released. When confronted with this, the suspect recanted and said she was just an auxiliary nurse. No one is sure of her real name.

In an interview with Sunday Tribune, the suspect said: "I am Mrs Adetola Adesina-Oluiwo, I am 35 years old and an indigene of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State though married to an Ibadan man. I have my family house on Folagbade street, Ijebu Ode. I am an auxiliary nurse who trained in Lagos and I worked for 13 years before I decided to be on my own. I started my own clinic in 2009 and established the clinic in Ikare Akoko in Ondo State. I decided on Ikare because I had a friend there who helped me to establish and get clients.

I had to leave Ikare when I got married to my husband this year and he did not agree to my staying so far away. The name of my clinic is 'The Land of Canaan Clinic' situated at 7up area of Ibadan. I started the clinic in Ibadan on August 5, 2011. In my clinic, I used to treat those who had malaria and attend to pregnant women who wanted to deliver babies. I rented a flat for the hospital.

When asked whether she obtained a licence for the clinic, Adesina-Oluiwo said she was yet to do that in Oyo State.

According to her, "I had already called someone I knew in Oyo town to put me through how to obtain the licence and he promised to help me at the end of this month of August". So why didn't she wait until then before she started operation, she was asked again. Mrs Adesina-Oluiwo replied that since she already had it in plan to take necessary steps, she didn't see anything wrong in continuing with her work.

She was also the sole staff of her clinic - she was the doctor, nurse, ward maid, cleaner etc. She also revealed that the deceased, Alhaja Basirat Animasaun was her first patient in Ibadan. Explaining how she came about the 'patient', Adesina-Oluiwo said she was sitting in front of her clinic on the fateful day when the deceased came to tell her that she had fibroid and wanted the 'doctor' to operate it for her.

"She told me that she was informed by some people that I was a doctor. I asked her why she didn't go to the hospital where she first had the operation and she replied that she had done it about three times and it was done each time at different hospitals. I then told her that I would call my boss in the profession, Dr Agboola Adeyemi, to know if he would be available for the opera-tion. I called him and he said he would come on Sunday August 7.

"On that day, I didn't see my boss, the doctor, neither the woman. On Monday, my boss called me and promised to come on Tuesday. On that Tuesday, he came around 8a.m. and the woman did not come until after 2p.m. I was even a little bit annoyed with her. She apologised and the surgery was carried out by Dr Agboola. He was the one who brought the instruments that were used and I was there with him fixing the drip on the woman and greeting her intermittently because she was not put to sleep totally.

"She brought N60,000 as fee for the surgery and I immediately handed it over to the doctor so that he would know that I did not keep anything back from him. I was yet to collect my share before the incident that happened.

"After the operation at about 5.30p.m., we took the patient to the ward and we were even talking. Her mother came and I showed her the fibroid which filled a small paint bucket. The woman thanked me profusely and even told me that our patient's child was in the car outside and had wanted to come in to see his mum but she stopped him because he would not want to leave his mum.

She asked to take her leave and she went away.

"I went to clean the theatre afterwards and about 8.30p.m., I was sitting by the nurses' table when I just heard Alhaja saying 'they are tightening hands round my neck'. I rushed to her side, thinking that she was in pain. I tried to calm her down, asking her jokingly about who was trying to suffocate her. She replied me that it was her mum's younger sibling. After that, she just packed up. She did not gas (gasp), she did not bleed.

"I quickly put a call through one of her sibling whose number she gave me in case we needed to call him to get any drug for her. When he came, I explained everything to him. We took her corpse to the hospital to deposit in the morgue and the next day, the family went to pick the remains and buried it. I was surprised to see the police from the State Criminal Investigation Department on Monday August 15 who came to arrest me," she narrated.

When asked why she told lies that she was a medical doctor and a consultant, the suspect initially denied saying so but when she was confronted by the officers before whom she made the claims, Adesina-Oluiwo said she was not in the right frame of mind when she was saying all that as she was shaken by her arrest.

Since her arrest, the woman claimed she had not seen the 'Doctor' Adeyemi while efforts to call him proved abortive as he had switched off his line. She also claimed she did not know his house though the man, according to her, said he was working at Ayinke House (an arm of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital), Ikeja. "He even told me he was about opening his own clinic within Mountain of Fire and Miracle Church. I only met in company of his other doctor friends where they used to sit to drink beer", she added.

When asked about the identity of her husband, Adesina-Oluiwo initially told the police that he was studying law in Egypt but told Sunday Tribune that though her husband was schooling in Egypt, she didn't know his course of study. She also disclosed that she and her husband had no accommodation in Ibadan and had been squatting with Alfa Mansur who introduced her to Alhaja Animasaun. She however said her husband is currently in Nigeria while the Alfa had travelled to Cairo in Egypt.

Police sources however said the woman and others were being suspected to be a gang of fraudsters who had been swindling people on different pretexts.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Moses Onireti said it was unfortunate that the family of the deceased had buried the corpse before reporting to the police while they also did not agree to exhuming the corpse, which he said would have further helped investigation and prosecution.

Mr. Onireti, however, said the police had taken over the case and if the suspect is found to be culpable to the crime she was alleged of, she would be charged to court after all investigations.

We have some resourceful, native and natural skills on bone manipulation in nigeria,in my area that i am very conversant with that are slowly dying away because the youths just want to be like obj, insensitive, overnight and uncountable wealth accumulation, corrupt, unskilled, unproductive and dubious. No body wants to learn skills, work hard and learn how to fix things.

Along side it are some natural herbs and plants that steams the bone and heals it.Although the tactics could be brute and painful some times like childbirth but it works.

You are right. Nigeria is brimming to the top with bioresources that have applications in medicine and the environment. Harnessing them to the benefit of humankind is another issue.

How are nigerian conventional orthopedists (the oyinbo trained) doing to incorporate the native orthorpedics that works so well into their everyday practice?

I am just thrilled that private Nigerians (these guys are not working for the govt) could be engaged in publishable research.

I would have commented personally were I an orthopaedic person or had full access to the article to read and digest it. But let us see in a few years time how many citations this article gets, and the sustained practical application of their findings, to support the ''medical feat'' claim. For now, I congratulate them for a supposed great feat.

Article: The use of the radial recurrent fasciocutaneous flap in interposition arthroplasty of elbow ankylosis case report and review of literature.

Abstract

Elbow ankylosis and its management remain a challenge in the developing countries like Nigeria because of many factors, including the absence of elbow replacement surgery. Current operative management, which is interposition arthroplasty with fascia lata or arthrodesis in a more functional position, is commonly complicated with donor site morbidity and restricted functionality, respectively. We report the use of the regional radial recurrent fasciocutaneous flap of the arm as an interposition material for an ankylosed elbow after excision of the bone block, with no donor site morbidity and improved range of elbow motion. At 4 years postoperatively, patient is very satisfied with functionality. Additionally, this method of managing elbow ankylosis uses a vascularized and durable flap, is cheap, and has less operation time, and thus is highly recommended.

A TEAM of Nigerian surgeons has developed a new world-acclaimed surgical technique for the treatment of permanent bone stiffness of the elbow, known as ankylosis of the elbow in medical parlance.

Already, seven Nigerians have benefited from the new technique and are now living normal lives.

The new technique known as Radial Recurrent Fasciocutaneous Flap in Interposition Arthroplasty of Elbow Ankylosis was recently published in International Surgery, an official journal of the International College of Surgeons based in Italy.

The surgeons, led by Prof. Frank Akpuaka, the medical director of a private orthopaedic hospital in Enugu include Dr. Chukwuemeka Eze and Dr. Udo Anyaehie, both of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Abuja.

The Guardian investigation showed that an authoritative biomedical website, BioMed Lib.com based in the United States of America, using its search engine to assess millions of biomedical articles in the National Library of Medicine’s Meddline data base, currently rated their publication in the first position out of 4,143,174 publications worldwide.

A second rating by Biomedlib.com again scored the new technique first with a score of 93 per cent out of 3,859,118 publications worldwide.

Another rating, the 3rd by Recent Medical Findings.com also in the United States scored the new technique a close second out of 36 top biomedical articles in the field in the last 5 years.

The surgeons started experimenting on the technique in 2006 and followed up until late last year when they announced their triumph.

According to the publication, what excited the team is the simplicity of the technique.

Famous tongues;King suny Ade, Omotola jalade ekehinde,

Ignorant CNN must then be ranking Yoruba accent, not Nigerian accent. There is no Nigerian accent.

No fewer than 200 lecturers of the Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu, Ogun State yesterday took to the streets in the town protesting non-payment of their salaries for the past 11 months.

The aggrieved lecturers who were also demanding the removal of the college’s Registrar, Alhaji Tunji Kanimodo also demanded full payment of their salaries.
According to them, the state government had “mutilated and fractionalised our salary by paying only 50 percent of our monthly dues; this is against Labour code, because a labourer’s sweat must not dry.’’

With placards bearing different inscriptions like: “Do not visit the sin of Daniel on us;” “Amosun, we need salary not subvention;” “Kanimodo has politicised the college with PPN, he must go,” among others. The protesters alleged that the institution’s Registrar, Kanimodo, whom they said was a Level 9 officer was a political apologist of the former governor, Gbenga Daniel and was not qualified to hold such position.

The Chairman of the Tai Solarin College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Femi Osibamowo who led other protesters said: “All we are asking for is the full implementation of the payment of our salary in COMCASS for the month of May and June.” The lecturers also pleaded with the state Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, to return them back to their former site at Ijagun, which currently hosts the Tai Solarin University of Education to enable them generate the needed IGR to augment their monthly salary.

Addressing journalists after the protest at the campus of the school in Omu-Ijebu, Osibamowo said the Land Use Act that was used to appropriate land for the TAISUED read that the land belonged to Tai Solarin College of Education (TAISCE) and not the university (TAISUED).
While giving the management of the institution a 72- hour ultimatum within which to confer with the state government, the lecturers also appealed to Amosun to also dialogue with them.
“It is necessary that Governor Amosun grants us audience to enable him know the degree of rot in the educational sector in the state and be able to take a decisive step to correct the anomalies.

“We are now imploring the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun to please save our soul. The last government did not pay us mutilated or fractional salary; we do not know where the circular for the payment of obnoxious mutilated salary emanated from. We are not confronting this government, this government should be magnanimous enough to study what is on ground to be able to see what is on ground.

“They should be able to speak with the union like it dialogued with the management and the students. Why now ostracising the union? There are many things the union will tell the governor if given the opportunity to do so,” Osibamowo stated. Attempts to speak with the Provost of the college, Dr. Abiodun Ojo met rebuff as he told journalists he would not speak on the matter.

Exam fraud: ICPC indicts WAEC, NECO, JAMB

RASMUS ALANEME
Examination bodies came under heavy criticism from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) which alleged that students were caught with prepared answers to questions through their GSM handsets in examination halls.

The affected examination bodies according to the anti-graft agency are National Examination Council (NECO, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Speaking a statement from its Resident Consultant on Media and Events, Folu Olamiti, the commission pointed out that the measures put in place by the examination bodies to monitor the activities of students and invigilators during examinations has failed in deterring such sharp practices.

The statement said the students now engage in sophisticated means of cheating in the examination whereby answers are downloaded using high-grade handsets both for objectives and theory questions.

According to the ICPC, it has become imperative for the Commission to raise alarm on the new level of cheating being demonstrated by Nigerian students during all grades of examinations as students now decode examination questions with sophisticated hand-sets.

Yoruba community commends Yuguda
By Patience Ogbodo, Special Correspondent, Bauchi

Yoruba Community Council, comprising 19 northern state chapters, has commended Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, for appointing one of their sons, Ishola Michael Adeyemi, as his Chief Press Secretary.

It described the appointment as a way of fostering unity in the country.

The council in a letter of solidarity addressed to the governor in Bauchi stated; “What you have done by the appointment has demonstrated that you are a detribalised Nigerian who is only committed to the promotion of the unity we have in our diversity.”

According to the  letter signed by its President General, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Oguntoyinbo, “Your action has further shown that your philosophy is that of one Nigeria irrespective of tribes, religion, political and geographical differences worthy of emulation by others in the position of authority in Nigeria.”

It  also prayed that God will give the governor wisdom, strength and good health required to steer the ship of Bauchi State to safety at the end of his second tenure. On the recent gesture extended to the families of the 10 slain Youth Corps members during the post-election violence, the Council commended the governor for the positive steps taken, saying, “We are impressed by your recent announcement to emulate the step of the President to further assist the bereaved families; it was a decision that has further shown you as a good and caring father who cares for the welfare of all his children.”

It then assured the governor of the  loyalty and support of all Yoruba people in Bauchi State. According to it, “We cannot forget this honour done to us as tribe, we will stick to you at all times and ensure that your administration succeeded in all its efforts at developing the state better.”
