Debsify: It was horrible. The smell of burnt wood was very strong, and it got dark(eclipse like). But unlike Port Harcourt pollution though, there was no black soot residue (maybe cos PH pollution is due to diesel) 4 Likes 1 Share |

emergency2: I think you should contact mcc. Since it has already been verified by ecfmg you most likely wouldn't need to verify it again. The might need some details from you so they can get a copy of the verified degree from ecfmg. Contact them and see how it goes . |

BANKING Opened a chequing and savings account with ScotiaBank. Service was quite good and was impressed. Many lessons for the Nigerian Banks. Offered a $3k credit card. Opened another account with CIBC and was offered a $1.5k credit card. The newcomers package for both banks are good, but for ScotiaBank, you start paying charges on your account from day one, while CIBC will give you a year of free transactions. [b] Welcome Amdman! Sometimes I wonder if Scotia has fixed banking plans or whichever banker one meets just wings it. I first opened an account with Scotia. The guy who opened the account said the first 6 months will be free and contrary to all I had heard and read here initially refused to give a credit card because I was a new immigrant. After some back and forth he approved 1000CAD I later had to close the account. (Oh and I was surprised how closing an account was drama free unlike Nigerian banks and they gave me to my last cent) Anyway, after another round of back and forth ,I reopened the account and was given 2000CAD credit and 1 year free of charges. 16 Likes 5 Shares |

Bettybeauty: And it's way cheaper than traveling down to submit in person. I paid 10,600 for to and fro to Lagos. You can either pick it up from their office or they can deliver it to your provided address when it comes back. Because it is a sensitive document they won't drop it with anyone except you. 2 Likes |

I put all required in an envelope (passports, vfs payment, intl passport, imm forms etc)..I downloaded the consent form from the vfs site and gave ups consent to pick up on my behalf. Paid to n fro courier fees to Lagos and submitted. When the passport came back from Accra, ups picked it up and delivered it to my house . 11 Likes 6 Shares |

Landing gist! My waka started from the city of Pitakwa. I had planned to use Abj Airport when booking but I just don't know how I forgot and chose Lagos. I had heard stories about the Lagos airport and had to start praying I don't get to speak plenty grammar or part with a lot of money. I used Airpeace from PH to Lagos. Domestic flights only give 20kg(which was like a drop to what I was carrying) for check in luggage, so I paid better money for excess luggage.. E pain me oh, but at least I felt more at peace than the other options I had in couriering my things to lagos which were cheaper. I had asked around and was told I wouldn't get a hotel within my budget(8-10k) around or close to the airport but thankfully I found one - Presken Hotel at Allen jxn. Staff and service was cool. I was traveling with a friend and colleague and we were heading to the same city. My friend's sister sent us a cab guy who was of great help to us. We arrived the airport around past 9am, our flight was by 1:45pm. When we got to the airport, he carried all our bags... Including my foodstuff bag which was weighing about 42kg( looking back, I wonder how I for manage with that bag). The guy was also a regular at the airport and knew a couple of the staff there so he helped us go through most of the motions. Our bags weren't searched. He got food stuff clearance for us. And negotiated the extra luggage cost for us with Ethiopian Airline. I ended up paying 100usd. I went to the BDC in the airport and changed some naira I had on me then proceeded to immigrations. That went smoothly. I had forgotten about some N200 notes I had in my pocket, so while patting me down the officer there said I should bless her even if na 200, so I gave her. I think arriving early (even if your flight is in the afternoon is better cos the staff are less cranky and there is also less pressure on you knowing you have enough time to do all you should do) The flight to Addis was cool... (The Addis airport make me weak for Nigerian Airports) The flight from Addis to Toronto was cray! Too damn loooooooooooooooog. I sleep wake up taya. Plus I'm not so good with sleeping on a chair.. I nearly lie down for the aisle. I was just thinking how I would have to go through this same thing when I have to go back to Nigeria. I sha decided I would have to save up more money so I can take flights with shorter flight time mbok. Aside the long journey Ethiopian airline was cool.. Courteous airhostesses, The food no too follow sha but was manageable ( we were served 5 times or so), In flight entertainment was very cool. We landed Toronto around 7am in the morning and our connecting flight to Edmonton was by 10:25am Landing formalities were a breeze. Less than 30mins everything. No luggage check Wasn't asked for POF( was only asked how much cash I have on me which was just 900usd) The officer cheerfully stamped me in, with congratulations bla bla bla, welcome to Canada... And I went to Service Canada to get my SIN. I wished Toronto was my last stop cos I was now tired of the whole journey mehn. The flight to Edmonton by Air Canada seemed to take forever. In this whole journey I realized I don't like flying. My fave moments now became when I hear "Ladies and Gentlemen we are now descending in preparation to land bla bla bla..... " Edmonton welcomed us with snow and a temp of -3 C Picked up my bags and waited for my sister to come pick me home where very hot jollof rice was waiting. One of my bag didn't come from Toronto, but I was later sent and delivered to the house. A few days later, I went into town to , get a sim card, phone, open a bank account. This Edmonton weather hasn't been doing me well.. It's so cold.... and im feeling unwell . I'm wonder how I will manage when the 'real winter' comes. It used to be sweet to be in Naija shouting winter is coming, as per GOT fan.... But now eh, I no want the winter to come. Dear Santa, can I have a white Christmas, but with temperature at 20 degrees and above? Anyway sha, I don land. 139 Likes 7 Shares |

* One silent reader stepping out * I stumbled on this thread a few weeks before I got ITA (while googling for some questions I was having about the immigration). And its been one of positivity, hope and encouragement through this journey. I may not have personally used information here as I didn't manage my account myself**, but the thread has still been helpful, especially to all those I've directed here who are doing the process themselves. **Used an agent cos I didn't have as much information then and wasn't sure I could do it on my own. I know better now Decision made Aug 2017 Ielts Nov 2017 8.5/8/8/7 LSRW ECA Mar 2018 (MCC) CRS 471 ITA April 25 AOR June 4 MEP June 15 PPR Oct 3 (Latter dated 2nd) No ADR Single applicant VO Ottawa Medicals - Prime Hospital, PH PCC - A contact in PH SCID POF - Fixed deposit certificate, 6 months statement of account and bank reference letter Work Experience - 3years plus. My reference letters were my biggest worry. I had 3 letters. Some weren't in the CIC format as they didn't contain salary earned, hours worked per week etc. Also, I had mixed up the dates (eg using June then letter comes bearing July). I added an LOE to this effect. Sibling Point - My sister's Marriage certificate, PR card and Utility bill was added A friend sent me a link to June AOR thread on the Canadavisa site a few weeks back.... I was reading through that day and noticed June 4th AOR (same as me) receiving PPR... I left a comment hoping mine too will come soon. Twenty mins later I got the golden mail! I'm so grateful to God! Thanks to everyone who has shared their stories on this journey. May it end in praise for everyone. Cheers. *Off to binge on sister thread* 81 Likes |

joo2018: Your sister's current specialty /training also matters. If she has two years of family medicine training she has a shot at practising after passing the Canadian licensing exams in some provinces. Different provinces have their requirements for IMGs. It might be a long route but not an impossible one. She can come to Canada, stay a couple of years, start the processes to licensure and get her citizenship. The UK route I guess is do private practise for a (good) while, then residency, become a fellow before coming to Canada. How long do you think that will take? I'm sure in those years she might have completed Canadian requirements with added citizenship. There was a special immigration program for doctors from UK /US... But I'm not sure it's still on. |

I think some of these things are updated from time to time. So it's best to just follow the instructions one was given as at the time of processing. When I did mine last year, the certificate had to be notarized along the international passport and the other form. bouqounmie: 2 Likes |
