Lol, even my straight piped Zdx doesn't consume this much, also had a 2005 accord v6 coupe without any 02 sensors that had a similar fuel drain issue. Solved it by having my mechanic take out the fuel tank, fuel lines, Nozzles and hoses in the engine bay, your car is dumping fuel somewhere, do you by chance perceive fuel inside the car?. If you're in Lagos,i can recommend a mechanic around Yaba/Oyingbo that could help out. While you are at it, take a look at the exhaust system and don't fall for those catalyst tricks kazeems tell you, clear the port out and install 02 spacers and you'd be good. Cheers |
Slizzords:Not surprised, used car market is a mess right now, spent 3 months looking until i found mine. Go offline and just drive around, watch out for cars with gallons on the roof for sale. Also consider increasing your search to neighboring states, got my car in abuja from lagos, flew down got a mechanic to inspect and drove back the next day. Kingreign does inspections in abuja, try sending him a PM. Don't know much about the pilot but i would'nt advise getting an SUV as a first time buyer, try looking for 2002-2006 Crv...solid car that might be in your price range. |
Slizzords:The 08 was the first model year, so avoid this. The K24 engine burns oil, rattles like crazy on cold starts and has injector issues. 2010-2012 is the sweet spot as most of these were corrected in 2010. Four cylinder or V6? |
Elxandre:Hello, i got a ZDX in january and i'll just drop these here since @elaxandre hasn't replied you. 1. I spend 75k plus every week from Gbagada to VI and back, i drive agressively tho so my MPG is quite poor. 2. Acura is a sub luxury brand so fuel consumption isn't it's strong suit, its worse with our 87pump gas. 3.Maintenance is a pretty expensive, parts are way more expensive and harder to source than Lexus or Infiniti. But by God you'd enjoy the car,i smile everytime i drive the car, Handling, Acceleration, Looks, A+. Just be prepared to spend a little more than the average car owner.

Slizzords:The Honda accord would be a good buy, carry out due dilligence and you would enjoy the car. Good fuel economy, decent oomph(avoid the v6 models tho), bulletproof engine, luxurious interior, available and relatively cheap parts. I've owned two and would gladly buy all over again. Forget the honda talk, you'd enjoy the car through and through. If you do get the car, i have a couple parts from my 2012 that i could give away. |
Good morning car talk, Here’s my dilemma, my mum drives a 2010 Honda CRV bought tons here on nairaland, I have been maintaining the car in its two years with us(never had any major issues just routine maintenance and some small repairs. Recently been away from the car for quite sometime and I came back to the radiator fan fan constantly running, she said she has only had her throttle body cleaned since the last I took it to get the o2 sensors replaced. She’s in a city I’m not familiar rn hence creating this thread…can somebody recommend a decent mechanic to revert the rams back to factory spec in Jos, plateau state? |
Just ensure there’s an original purchase receipt from whichever dealership he bought the car from and you’d be alright. |
fineboynl:Exactly, a colleague bought a 2017 accord touring for 8.7m from this woman who insisted on a Camry after her husband the accord. Try getting a 2014 Camry for that price. |
sule944:Lol, he wouldn’t because he doesn’t have any concrete reason besides the shallow minded belief that “Honda pulls legs”. Op we have two model years of this CRV, a 2010 and a 2013, I’d tell you it’s the best runabout vehicle you could get. The R20a is a durable, high performing engine without the oil burn that the KSeries suffers, so make sure you get the 2.4l over the 2.0l. The suspension is solid and you get better ground clearance with the CRV. Parts are cheaper on the vibe and its tiny engine makes it more fuel efficient. A quick tip; test drive both cars personally before you pick either. |
FEGEITOK:Honestly, I wouldn’t know as I’ve not gone through there before but I’d expect traffic at shagamu |
FEGEITOK:Hello, good day. I believe the fastest safest route for now would be Abuja-abaji-lokoja-obajana-kabba-omuo-ado ekiti-Ibadan- lagos. Try breaking the trips on your map as it wouldn’t suggest this as an option,ie Abuja to lokoja, lokoja to Ado ekiti, just like that. Safe travels |
Hello op, not be a spoil sport but your transmission is on its way out, changing your brainbox wouldn’t entirely solve the issue, placebo effect most likely. I’d advise a drain and flush with Honda genuine DW-1, if you still have problems, just get another one. Transmissions isn’t Hondas string suit so why not. |
Good morning Op, I drove from Lagos to Abuja on Friday and the Jos the next day. A few pointers though, 1. Leave early, 5am if possible, there’s some construction at Obajana so the re route would take you an hour or two if it rains. 2. Omuo roads are terrible so give and take another hour added to ETA. 3. Have your wipers, headlights and defogger checked, it’s pretty difficult to drive late while it’s raining if any of these aren’t working properly. 4. Enjoy the trip, your first leg(Abuja to lokoja) is very good, make up for the time you’d lose on that road, Godspeed brother, please keep us updated.

flejnr2:A good choice if you ask me, solid car, beautiful body lines and interior, rugged engine, I could go on and on. A purchase you would not regret, take my word for it, I’m on my 2nd one. Go for an EX or EXL and you’d feel right at home coming from an Avalon. Just avoid the v6 and carry out due diligence before you buy. |
Hey bro, knew this was a while ago but I’m doing lagos to Abuja sometime this week, would you be interested in making the trip or know someone who would? |
Unfortunately posting pictures on here is pretty much rocket science here are the scanners I’m considering: 1. Foxwell NT680 pro 2. Launch x431 pros V 3. Autel MaxiCOM MK808TS 4. FOXWELL GT75TS 5. 2022 Autel MP808BT |
Hello all, I recently got promoted to head up the transport and logistics department of a major FMCG company in northern Nigeria, this puts me in charge of Maintenance and purchase of new vehicles. I’m a car nut but beyond basic DIY tasks and diagnosis I’m pretty clueless. To cut down downtime and ease convenience I decided to start up an in house maintenance and troubleshooting division, interviewing a couple of mechanics in the coming weeks. My question here, pardon the lengthy intro, what diagnostic devices would you recommend we purchase for in-house diagnosis and troubleshooting? Please note I am in no way trying to replace our contract mechanics but small tasks like throttle adaptation, tpms reset, etc that can easily be handled doesn’t need the whole red tape involved in using an outside department. Already quite ahead on fund appropriations so my budget for this would be 350-500k as of this fiscal year. Subsequently we’d acquire higher end devices once the department fully kicks off. Shortlisted a few options from my personal research, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Cc Gazzuz Piyke Kingrein Nurey Egunmogaji TheBigkendo Radutoworks |
I was wrong tho, there’s a tuner for y’all in lagos ![]()
|
Timopea:A better option would be to fit a Cold air intake and those $5 Amazon turbo whistles, a better sounding engine and a cat delete should tickle your fancy. |
baconline:lol nobody would waste good money tuning a Camry, how much power do think a stage one tune would give 190hp Camry , you think the transmission would handle crackles and pops, if it was like this I won’t be looking for a G, I’d stick to my accord and slap another tune and post amg runtimes. |
buygala:ermmm maybe not as good as you think, boy racer good yes, AMG, Mpower good hell no, thing is the cars weren’t built with performance on mind, a silent engine and an “aggressive” exhaust would still sound empty, please don’t give him any hopes, too many crappy rice rockets already, let’s not put one more on the road |
gonkin:Would still crappy asf, besides the cost of a proper sounding exhaust would be almost as expensive as the car. There’s a difference between a rumbling exhaust and one that sounds like the car is misfiring. |
Sirnioking:Hello OP, I’d advise you to just get another pump, Honda’s aluminum pumps are very fragile, contact luvinghubby or go to oyingbo if you’re in lagos, fixed mine twice before I decided to change it, cost 55k with OEM fluids as at august 2021. As for the other issue, ditch the catalyst, install a spacer and most importantly change both o2 sensors, original denso goes for 28k each. The car is stuck in open loop, thus burning more fuel because the oxygen fuel ratio is off, have a qualified tech scan and clear the error codes afterwards, the difference would be clear as night and day. |
Idaytesj29:omuo to kabba was the worst, couldn’t do over 60kmh because the were so many bad spots. You’d enjoy Ekiti tho, the roads were so tempting |
bigbamo:Its actually more performance especially ehen you're idling and at lower speeds. VCM basically shuts down 3 cylinders when you don't need the extra power, under hard acceleration it fires up the other 3 giving you better acceleration, turning it off means you always have all 6 cylinders firing but at the expense of fuel economy |
bigbamo:Just look for an i4, VCM is only on the v6 models, pre 2013 models with the 6 cyl are prone to vcm failing at higher mileage, it was fixed in the earth dreams engine that came in 2013. If you're buying 2010 to 2012 avoid the v6 |
Hello all, Finally got around to making the trip, definitely an eye opener and I'd probably be making same trip at the end of the year again ![]() Didn't get any good pictures but I'll post the ones I took. Left lagos at 5:30 am and got to Abuja the next day due to two burst tyres somewhere in ekiti state, hit a porthole at 120kmh, bought a new pair the next day and completed the trip. The return trip was smother, left Abuja at 10am and was in lagos by 12am Fun and enlightening trip, the roads are safe(drove the Illesha Ibadan stretch at 10pm and got home safely despite the ungodly time), observed that the police at those checkpoints didn't care about complete vehicle particulars, tipping would save you a whole lotta stress. Car didn't give any issues and I consistently used one and half tank both ways(a full tank is about 70L) Return trip was faster, maps estimated 9hrs 11mins, i sha pushed the car, hit 180kmh at some point on lagos ibadan expressway
|
homeboy205:I ran chief ![]() Found another in Oyingbo, long drive but its definitely worth it |
Update: Replaced both MAF sensor and the upstream 02 sensor, sluggishness disappeared immediately , still have a glowing check engine light but I'll scan and troubleshoot on Saturday. Thanks for the recommendations
|
nurey:Buying a new Maf and 02 sensor this morning, the relearn is it the normal "start with all loads off and idle till the fans circle once" or another? |
GAZZUZZ:Thanks boss, sent you a WhatsApp message. |
adanny01:Thanks boss, changed one rear engine mount and both transmission mounts during my last tune up. But I'll have them checked. |
