blackboy: I did in 2014 Abuja to Lagos. First time by road. 1. Had not driven long distance before. 2. Relied on Nokia maps . The phone battery went off when I was in Kogi. The maps directed me through Kogi town through a barracks. Had to keep asking for directions. 3. If you travel on full tank you might need to buy another full tank before you get to destination. 4. We travellers had to park late into the night for fear armed robbery was taking place up the road. 5. Got to Lagos around past midnight. Left Abuja around 7am. 6. With the current state of bad roads and insecurity leave early 5am. 7. The police a major delay factor. They kept me for an hour saying I did not have MIR or whatever. Pray you dont fall into heartless police hands. 8. Enjoy your trip. This was very detailed, I’ve also not driven long distance before, farthest I’ve driven was Abuja to Jos, I’m not really worried about fueling, Tyre wear and suspension are my major worries. I plan on leaving by 5am, peeled of my tints to avoid police wahala a long time ago but I’ll still keep change handy ,thank you very much, we plan on enjoying the trip. |

Aanumi16: Let me suggest a safer route for you, though it's long, you can ply the road anytime of the day. Lagos - Enugu - Otukpo - Loko - Lafia - Abuja
From Otukpo to Abuja is just 3 hrs Enugu to Otukpo is 2 to 3 hrs This seems way too long, re routing through benue would add at least an extra 3 to 4 hrs. Thank you tho, I’ll just stick to the regular route and leave early |

Crocif: Lol.
Has Arik improved? Last time I used them their time-wasting was something else. Anyways since it is not for business (with tight time-lines) I guess Arik is fine.
Safe trip either way. Lol, they have, as long as you check in at least 30mins before the flight you’d have little or no problems, I like how they easily reschedule flights, in cabin ambiance and general professionalism, although the ground crew in Abuja can be very rude and annoying |

Crocif: First time driving such distance and with your fiance? I would advise against it. I have driving inter-state several times and my first was a trip to Oraifite in Anambra state. The farthest I have driving is to Enugu. My first time out, I went with a friend who can also drive just to be on the safe side.
A number of things can happen on the road, trust me when I say at those moments you would rather have someone who would end up being an asset than a liability. In my sojourn, I have had flat tires at ungodly hours and slept in a police station at some point etc and my friend proved very useful at those times.
If you must go on the trip I would advise that you do so with a friend who can drive and is street smart instead of your fiance. Though I plan to make a road trip myself, I would strongly urge you to take a flight. A return trip for you and your lady should be about N115,000 which I want to believe you can afford. Flown with them once and their customer relations is piss poor, if it isn’t arik, I’m better off driving. Thank you tho |

aieromon: You have no business with Ilorin. You must hit the road as early as possible and prepare to spend the night on the road if you cannot get to Lokoja by 6pm.
Ibadan - Ado Ekiti - Omuo - Kabba - Obajana - Lokoja is a better choice than Ibadan - Akure - Kabba/Okene - Lokoja due to the lonely roads in the Akoko axis of the route.
NB : Google map estimate is totally different from the total number of hours you will spend on the road. There are currently 2 road constructions - Lokoja and Gwagwalada and you are likely to waste precious man hours in those locations.
Wishing you a safe trip. Much appreciated |

CaptainAyub: Flights are as cheap as 23,300naira currently if you book ahead, maybe 2 weeks earlier. Why risk a road trip with all the wahala from Buhari's fulani brothers, bad roads, stress of driving etc? Thank you sir, the trip was last minute, the topic just came up last night and all the flight deals I’ve seen are a little expensive. Can’t fly air peace so it’s just arik. That roughly 80k plus minus hotel and other expenses, fueling would cost a little over 30k both ways. I’m worried about safety tho, with madam in the car I’m not sure I’d want to take the risk

Lavisha: Honda are good cars only if you maintain em. to answer your questions; I've done it from Lokoja to lag and back with my Accord 2007 and it was cool. A full tank should do tho but without Cat? who knows?! Meanwhile, you need to drive with dexterity by speeding and braking at the right times, some portions or the road are good while others are very bad, rough driving may damage you CD player, engine seats etc. Google map is okay.
Godspeed. Thank you for your response, car is in pretty good shape, will be fitting new Tyres before I leave, a full tank and half would still be overly affordable compared to the price of flights |

Good morning all, I recently moved to Lagos for a new job, having been here for a year I am planning on going back to Abuja for Easter, not really a fan of public buses and due to the surge in traveling, Flight rates are astronomical for me and my fiancé, so driving would be my surest, most convenient and cheapest alternative.
I have gone through previous travel threads but they all seem outdated so I’m looking for an update.
I plan on leaving Thursday morning 5am, Im driving 2012 Honda Accord coupe. My questions would be:
1. First time driving such long distance, is it advisable? I’m not such a tough chap but I’m sure I can manage
2. How safe is the trip? With the kidnapping trend going on.
3. How much would it cost me to fuel? Car is a 4 cylinder without a cat (catalytic converter)
4. How rough will it be on the car? Car is less than 5months old, wouldn’t want to rough it up just yet.
5. How accurate is google maps? It estimates 12hrs through Ibadan and 14hrs through illorin.
Aside from the above any other advice or assistance would be welcomed.

Good morning OP, this particular civic is a very good car,had a friend back in uni who owned one, very rugged, cheap maintenance and very fuel efficient,a good buy I must say but for 1m!!! That’s on the high side for an older Honda, consider buying a newer model civic say 03-05, your budget would get you a clean used one.Its easier to source for replacement parts (headlamps, brake lamps, body and interior trim) for newer cars as opposed to older ones |

PaulH07: Hmmm, thanks a lot bro, but I've not heard about those abbreviations you put up oh before. Lol... CEL is check engine light, MAF is mass airflow,ATF is automatic transmission fluid ,DW-1 is Honda’s recommended transmission fluid aka gear oil,I order off Jumia for 3500 but I’m sure there are dealers on here. |
Car Talk › Re: Issues With My Ride After Fixing. by speedfreak(m): 12:26pm On Sep 19, 2020 |
PaulH07: Hello fellas!
I don come with my wahala again, but that's the life of a first timer taking care of this wahala called car.
Well I successfully put my ride back in shape but here are issues I'm now facing:
1. My MIL(check engine) light was previously blinking anytime I drive, but after some mechanical works today, it has stayed put any time I'm driving. I browsed the internet for some info and found out a faulty airflow meter usually causes it. Actually a part of my airflow meter is broken anyway due to the accident, which makes the car make noise like trailer.
Was told an airflow meter goes for about 10k, bear in mind I reside in Taraba state.
2. Anytime I drive, my drive D keeps blinking, even after refilling the transmission oil with 1L of transmission oil, as i saw on the net as well that it's the commonest cause of a blinking D on the dashboard. Wetin una think?
3. Sometimes the car goes off itself while driving yesterday, and was diagnosed today as one of the plugs being faulty. Had the whole 3 of the front plugs changed today and it hasn't gone off itself since then. But there's this low sound it makes while it's on idle, as if it wants to go off, before going back to it's normal sound again. This sounds is worsened anytime I switch on my AC. Make una epp me check am out!
4. Finally the Brake light keeps showing, despite the Brake working perfectly. This is giving me serious concern as the info I got on the net says it means the brake isn't working as it's supposed to. Checked the "master slender" as they called it for the brake oil, and saw the brake oil is reduced. Yet to top it up, but I go still like know weda anything apart from brake oil fit cause am, to be prepared before hand.
Thank ya'll for the comments in my previous post. Abeg make una epp me put mouth for this one too ooo!
Nagode soose! Good day bro, So sorry about the accident, congrats on fixing the car up For no 1. Forget the internet, get the car to the nearest mechanic and have it scanned,CEL could mean a lot of things not just MAF For number 2. What oil was used in replacing the drained fluid? Not to be spoilsport but if anything other than DW-1 was used please prepare to replace the entire gearbox that j30 is very unforgiving when it comes to gearbox maintenance? Try draining and replacing with the recommended Honda DW-1 ATF For number 3. You might want to adjust the idle control, just take it to your mechanic and ask them to increase your “slow”. If that doesn’t work then have the car scanned For number 4, check all your brake lamps, brake pads and hydraulic NB. These are just suggestions coming from a fellow eod owner, your mechanics advise and expertise is still paramount. Hope all goes well, been following this car since purchase would very much like to prove the Honda naysayers wrong on this one. Cheers |

Car Talk › Re: 2003/2004 Honda Accord (EOD) Tire Sizes, Upgrade by speedfreak(m): 11:46am On Sep 13, 2020 |
quest118: Great fellows I greet you all.
My Honda Accord 2003 LX (Europe spec), comes with 205/ 60R16 tire specification (written on the driver's door area).
But right now I have a pair of 215/65R16 tires at the back and a pair of 215/60R16 at the front. They drive well with no issues so far.
I wish to ask, is it safe to replace the two front tires with 215/65R16 tires or to stick to the factory specification?
What are the biggest tires you've replaced your Honda Accord 2003/2004 with, without any issues, like rubbing on the vehicle body/fenders, while driving on bumpy or typical Nigerian roads?
Are there any safety downsides to using a wider and higher(bigger) tires? Presently use 205/65R17 all round on an 05 American spec v6 no issues since I changed them in January, the factory spec would always be recommended but 65 would work if you ply rough roads often. I’ve seen 19in rims here in Abuja on a DC with low profile tires, ride was pretty rough even on tarred roads |

PaulH07: It has already been bought. I'm ready to put in 200k max into the car to fix AC and everything. If I spend more than that, then I can start regretting.
For now, the ride drives like a horse. Sharp brakes, sweet engine.
Na only AC remain, and then to beautify the interior, which I said 200k max will clear. For now, na to dey learn driving, and no better way for me, than to learn with a car like this. I'll learn every issues through the challenges it poses.
AC back to life. In chilling mode right now. Wish I was based in Abuja, so I can cruise long distances on cream roads... Doesn't the acceleration just cheer you up!! Still can't get over how it slaps you back in your seat when you hit the throttle, enjoy your car bro, Another win for team honda |
Car Talk › Re: Should I Buy This EOD? by speedfreak(m): 6:40am On Aug 16, 2020 |
PaulH07: Thanks a lot bro...so how long would a full tank last please?
Also why run away from 4cylinders? Thought everyone rushes it? I meant a 4 cylinder won't go for a low as that without being a lemon, the v6 variant is relatively cheaper because of its poor second hand value. As for the fueling,i can't really say exactly how long it would last but it depends on several factors like Ac use, driving style, engine conditioner,etc...personally i use a full tank for a week and refill on sundays, now its just to and from my office, when i used to go clubbing i refilled on Saturdays because i drove extra on friday night and saturday morning. Best gauge would be to fill up and drive till the reserve lights comes on then you can roughly gauge your MPG. Congratulations on the acquisition btw |

PaulH07: Features include reverse camera , screen touch , navigation system, Bluetooth , subwoofer with good sound system, sound engine and many more. Serious interested buyer should contact me via. Thank you.
Price 600k, but the guy can even sell it to me for 500k, the owner of the new car he wants to upgrade to gave him time limit. Great deal i must say...just want to correct a few things that seem mythical 1. The transmission isn't a good as the 4cycl but it doesn't just fail like that,i should know i use the exact same car, bought mine toks in 2017 and the gear is still going strong. 2. Fuel consumption is slightly higher than the 4cycl variant but it won't last 3 week...maybe if you don't drive it 3. I've changed my whole power steering assembly, cost about 45k approx. So that shouldn't be an issue. Basically it seems like a very good bargain(if it was a 4cycl I'd advise you to look away) Drop your number,I'll add you my honda group...it'll go a long way in terms of tech support. Cheers!! |

Opeexclusive04: From the moment you got your mind to desire an IS250 V6, ignoring other four cylinder vehicle(s) should also be the moment you removed fuel economy from your expectations. V6 is not a guzzler as the typical Nigerian will call it, but it's also not a fuel efficient. In my opinion I'll always prefer a V6 to a four cylinder; simple reason is the durability of those engines are way beyond the so called fuel savers. Buy a V6 and Take away the driving stress from your head and place it on your engine. I suppose you don't drive an accord |
