The difference is that most widowers remarry while most widows do not.
My cousin lost her husband in 2019. She was 32,they had 2 children. She didn't remarry.

An uncle lost his wife in 2014. He was about 50.They had 4 children. He remarried in 2015 and has 2 children with the new wife.

If I die today, my husband can remarry in less than a year or thereabout.
If it's the other way round, I will not remarry.
