Properties / Re: Architecture, Energy Conservation And Alternative Energy. by spiderman(m): 5:09pm On Sep 19, 2011 |
Colleagues, let me give you an example of the lack of awareness in designing energy efficient buildings in Nigeria. A couple of years ago i was part of the design team for the design of the new headquarters tower for Energy Commission of Nigeria, to be located in Abuja. We tried to develop a concept that would reflect the global move towards use of natural sources of energy. The design included large openings at the roof level and services floor covered in solar panels which would generate enough energy to power the whole building. The idea was that the energy commission of Nigeria HQ was not going to be powered by PHCN. Unfortunately the solar panels scheme was shelved for being too grandiose, unattainable and expensive to maintain as compared to PHCN + fossil fuel power generating; this was in 2001. The tower is still not built and i understand there are moves within the commission to review the design, i pray the new design team whoever they may be come up with a design that reflects the present global drift towards green buildings. |

Nairaland / General / Re: Have You Ever Been Arrested And Locked Up In The Cell Before by spiderman(m): 11:41am On Apr 08, 2010 |
Though never been in a cell been to the station several times. The worst was when i ran into an Okada man right in front of a police station. i hit the poor man so hard he fell right into the premises of the police station. come see katakata everyone in the station came out, as i was being dragged into the station, i could see pity in the eyes of passersby the pity was for me, not the Okada man. At the end its all about the dough and how much of it u can part with. I paid OKADA MAN for loss of income. It was estimated he would be out of work for about a week cause of injuries, of course paid for treatment too. settled DPO, (for the audacity of hitting an okada man into the station) "FRONT DESK TEAM" (front counter guys), "RESCUE TEAM"(carried okada man into station), "INVESTIGATORS"(investigated accident), "OBSERVERS" (some police men & women inside the station) "GATEMAN" (also a policeman; claims he quickly opened the gate to make sure Okada man while falling did not damage the gate) my broda e no funny. |
Politics / Atiku, Associates Set To Return To Pdp by spiderman(m): 10:46am On Apr 08, 2010 |
"Anytime from now, a former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, will formally declare for the Peoples Democratic Party. This is because his political associates at a meeting with him in Abuja on Wednesday endorsed his return to the party he left in 2007. The associates, which included Alhaji Lawal Kaita; Senator Ben Obi; Chief Dapo Sarumi; Otunba Oyewole Fasawe; Chief Dubem Onyia; and Chief Titi Ajanaku; decided to set up a committee that would facilitate the return of the former vice-president and his associates to the party at the centre and the states." The PUNCH Newspaper, Today 8th March, 2010. Hmm, i wonder why the move to return to the party he left, apparently without any regrets, to challenge at the polls. what has changed to necessitate this return. His main foe and former boss Obasanjo is still head of the PDP Board of Trustees. All the other usual suspects are either still leading the party or calling the shots from behind the curtains. The way i see it, like most of the other politicians in this country this erstwhile VP is a man without conviction. I believe he lacks the prerequisite level of moral assertion to lead anyone; and these so called Associates, how exactly do they figure in this equation, methinks they are hangers-on who though would be totally irrelevant without Atiku are portrayed as the decision makers for this ex VP. Interesting. I weep for my dear country and its people, what manner of gangsters have we decided to call our leaders. I strongly believe change will come; albeit slowly, but surely CHANGE WILL COME!! |

Politics / Re: How Much Can You Sacrifice For Nigeria? by spiderman(m): 4:49pm On Mar 24, 2010 |
dear nairalanders we need to keep record of posts on this thread, why? every poster who self confesses their lack of interest in making any kind of sacrifice for their country have no right to criticize those in government for not making such sacrifices either. If Yardua and his kitchen cabinet refused to make the required sacrifice for their country by giving up power to help the nation move forward how do we know the ones with unpatriotic comments here wouldn't have done the same. In fact those in government could be said to be better off for at least offering themselves for public service. One is tempted to think we followers are perhaps the most unpatriotic. we defile our leaders, call them names and laugh at our country, but what have we as individuals done to help our country; yet we say things like "not a thread of my hair","sacrifice ke, God forbid" and "small sha" this poster is not in anyway any less guilty of these accusations, but lets face the fact, we are just as bad as our leaders and there really are very few Nigerians who would out of their own free will make a sacrifice for their country, Very few indeed. |

i hope happenings of the past few weeks would serve as lectures in our study of democracy dangerous as it may be i feel we need to go through this trying times if our democracy is to have anything like a sound foundation. if anything happens now and we deal with it albeit nollywood-like style next time we would deal with it in a much better manner, that i guess is what maturing is all about. have no fear my bros and sis WE ARE DESTINED FOR GREATNESS |

i wonder, with the return of El Presidente will, -aondoaakar return -our dear Dora be able to look mr. president in the eye? -our governors go to say welcome - mr. vice president/ mr. acting president become an errand boy to el presidente? na wao!!! so, we have, - a president who cannot preside, - an acting president who can no longer act on his own, - a first lady who is determined to be second to no-one - a fed exec council which seems to be headed for dissolution, and a national assembly which doesn't appear to assemble for anything good for the people. hmmmm, NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE. |

Crime / Re: AIT Reporter Efenji Efenji Stabbed To Death On Vals Day by spiderman(m): 1:53pm On Feb 22, 2010 |
its hard to understand how people could be so heartless and i'm not just talking about the perpetrators of this crime. i guess those who have found it convenient to post those callous comments have resolved within themselves that they could be party to such misconduct and would not mind much if it happened to them or theirs. Its sad when we lose one so close to us. Efenji was close to a lot of us; even though not personally but all AIT viewers will be shocked to find they will NEVER hear that "slogan" any more, EFENJI, EFENJI reporting for AIT news. adeiu ma brotha!! |

it apperas nl is gradually becoming a forum for expressing hate and anger. methinks we all have to be very careful here, we might gradually be nurturing and breeding a hate network which could eventually serve a purpose for our country other than what SEUN and his crew had in mind. For some funny reason i always thot nl was all about meeting people and exchanging ideas; was i wrong? Take a trip on any of the threads available and u come across all sorts of rantings and curses and abuses. u get the impression that Nigerians are generally a very angry people! I agree we are free to express our opinions; i agree also that our opinions could be at variance sometimes, but could we pls be civil while making our feelings known? leaves thread, |
