We have fumbled and wobbled and we are back home! The time to go back to the drawing board again. What exactly is Nigeria's Super Eagle's problem?: Players? Coaching? or Administration? What is the way out? |

omgjibosqie:But Volkswagen Vogts will not agree with you. He said unlike Ghana, Nigeria is a VERY young team. Imagine that! I doubt if the man is a coach. The earlier he is sent packing, the better. Like Boateng said on SuperSport3, that match was won from the bench. I dont know what we expect from the ref again. A ref that gave a pen and a red against the host country. Abegi! Super turkey is not a team. We are living on past glory and FIFA has not helped matter. The best team in Africa indeed! |
Pardon my inadequacy in poetry. I was just trying to express myself in an arena where I am not a professional Sharia! oh Sharia! Where are thou? When you reincanated At the beginning of this republic Thou have come to stay, I thought For your exhumer sounded very serious From Kano to Katsina! Sokoto to Zamfara From Maiduguri to Yola Thou art the beautiful bride What about Bauchi and Gombe? With pump and pageantry Your arrival was announced Everybody was so fond of you "For you possess the magic wand To all our problems" Or so we were made to believe But the occupier of the Rock thought otherwise "She shall soon be divorced" He predicted For you were a political bride, he claimed! How prophetic he was! Beautiful Sharia Thou art a runaway bride Despite all the noise made And resources commited to your engagement Your existence was but short For you are no longer relevant You have been Used and dumped. Do I miss you, my dear? May be. May be not! May your soul rest in perfect peace Until your presence is needed again. |
Society for Family Health (SFH) stated in Abuja on Thursday that over 190 million condoms were sold in 2007 with a projection of over 200 million in 2008. The Gold Circle condom brand is one of the strategies adopted by the organisation to prevent unwanted pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) especially HIV/AIDS. SFH, a Non-Governmental Organisation, was established to empower Nigerians, particularly the poor and vulnerable, to lead healthier lives through essential health information services and products. The General Manager, Sales and Distribution, Mr. Damola Ogunbowale, made this known at the 2007 annual wholesales’ conference. He said the figures were far above the sales target of 170 million condoms for the year. Ogunbowale, who gave the performance review for the year, informed that 10,000 female condoms were sold in 2007, which he said indicated that women had not conditioned themselves to the use of the condoms. In 2006, he disclosed that products distributed by SFH prevented over one million unwanted pregnancies and over 2,000 maternal deaths. The Managing Director of SFH, Mr. Bright Ekeremadu, stated that the agency was a key national partner in the Nigerian government-coordinated national response to HIV/ AIDS. He, however, said that they were ready to partner with other organisations and improve reproductive health in Nigeria. |
Microsoft Corp. has pounced on slumping Internet icon Yahoo Inc. with an unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion in its boldest bid yet to challenge Google Inc.'s dominance of the lucrative online search and advertising markets. The surprise offer of $31 per share, made late Thursday and announced Friday, seizes on Yahoo's weakness while Microsoft tries to muscle up in a high-stakes battle with Google likely to define the technology landscape for years to come. In a statement Friday, Yahoo said it will "carefully and promptly" study Microsoft's bid. With its profits steadily sliding, Yahoo's stock slipped to a four-year low earlier this week and a new management team has been trying to steer a turnaround but sees more turbulence through 2008. The announcement lifted Yahoo's share price by almost 50 percent in morning trading, while Google fell almost 8 percent, dragged down by a fourth-quarter earnings report that missed Wall Street expectations. In conference call Friday morning, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer indicated he won't take no for an answer after Yahoo rebuffed takeover overtures a year ago. "This is a decision we have -- and I have -- thought long and hard about," Ballmer said. "We are confident it's the right path for Microsoft and Yahoo." To underscore its resolve, Microsoft is offering a 62 percent premium to Yahoo's closing stock price Thursday. If the deal is consummated, it would be by far the largest acquisition in Microsoft's history, eclipsing last year's $6 billion purchase of online ad service aQuantive. Since reaching a 52-week high of $34.08 in October, Yahoo shares have fallen 46 percent. Yahoo climbed $9.41 a share, or 49 percent, to $28.59 in morning trading. Microsoft shares fell $1.43, or 4.4 percent, to $31.17. Microsoft publicly disclosed its cash-and-stock offer in hopes of rallying support from Yahoo's shareholders, making it more difficult for Yahoo's board to turn down the bid. In a letter released Friday, Ballmer pointedly noted Yahoo's financial performance has deteriorated since Microsoft was spurned a year ago. At that time, Ballmer said he was told Yahoo believed it was better off on its own. "A year has gone by, and the competitive situation has not improved," Ballmer wrote in his letter. Microsoft's previous offer was rebuffed by Terry Semel, who stepped aside last year as chief executive under shareholder pressure. Microsoft sent its latest takeover offer to Yahoo late Thursday, shortly after Semel resigned as the company's chairman. The letter is addressed to Semel's successors, new Chairman Roy Bostock and the current CEO, co-founder Jerry Yang, who is one of Yahoo's largest shareholders. In a prepared statement, Yahoo said its board "will evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo's strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders." Microsoft views Yahoo as its best chance to thwart Google, which has leveraged its leadership in Internet search and advertising to emerge as an increasingly serious threat to the world's largest software maker's persuasive influence on how people interact with computers. Google already controls nearly 60 percent of the US. search market, and has been widening its lead, despite concerted efforts by both second-place Yahoo and third-place Microsoft. By combining, Microsoft and Yahoo would have a 33 percent share of the US. search market, according to the latest data from comScore Media Metrix. By joining forces, Microsoft and Yahoo also would widen their narrowing advantage over Google in providing free e-mail accounts -- a service that helps foster more loyalty with users and create more advertising opportunities. Advertisers around the world are expected to double their spending on the Internet during the next three years as more people get their news and entertainment on the Web instead of television, radio, newspapers and magazine. The trend is expected to create an $80 billion online ad market in 2010, up from an estimated $40 billion last year. Despite an aggressive push in recent years, Microsoft's online advertising expansion hasn't paid off. Last week, the Redmond, Wash.-based company reported a 79 percent jump in its overall profit, but its online division's loss widened to $245 million. And Yahoo has been struggling to attract more advertising even though its Web site attracts one of the biggest audiences. The Sunnyvale-based company's profit has declined for five consecutive quarters, prompting plans to cut 1,000 jobs later this month, a 7 percent reduction of its 14,300-employee work force. Besides helping to boost its online ad revenue, Microsoft believes it could mine more profit from Yahoo by jettisoning workers and eliminating overlapping operations. Microsoft said it sees at least $1 billion in cost savings if it buys Yahoo. Microsoft executives deflected questions about how many jobs might be lost, but the company emphasized retention packages will be offered to Yahoo engineers and other key employees, including some executives. The fate of Yahoo's brand also is unclear if Microsoft takes over. Both Ballmer and Kevin Johnson, president of Microsoft's platforms and services division, hailed Yahoo's strong brand value but didn't commit to keeping the name alive. AP Business Writer Jennifer Malloy in New York and AP Business Writer Jessica Mintz in Seattle contributed to this story. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080201/microsoft_yahoo.html |

Blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed. And like Joseph II, the 18th century Austrian emperor suggested his own epitaph, I will like to suggest this epitaph for the super fowls, as a concerned citizen: "Here lies the Super fowls, who failed woefully in everything they undertook" |
The FIFA World Rankings is a ranking system for men's national teams in Association football. The teams of the member nations of FIFA are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A point system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of FIFA-recognized international matches. The ranking system was revamped after the 2006 World Cup. The most significant change is that the rankings are now based on results over the previous four years instead of the previous eight years. Other factors taken into account are as follows: 1. Match result 2. Match status 3. Opposition strength 4. Regional strength. In the current FIFA ranking released this January just before the commencement of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Ghana, Nigeria was ranked No. 1 in Africa (and No.19 in the world) with 879 points. As a matter of fact, the 10 best countries in Africa according to the FIFA ranking are: 1. Nigeria, 879 2. Cameroon, 853 3. Guinea, 765 4. Egypt, 733 5. CIV, 688 6. Morocco, 676 7. Senegal, 675 8. Ghana, 660 9. Tunisia, 624 10. Mali, 622 However, latest results especially with regards to the performance of Nigeria's Super Eagles has once against confirmed my opinion about the bogusness of FIFA ranking. How credible therefore is the FIFA ranking? Let's have your opinion. |
Expect nothing! Disappointed not! The mama eagles can not be trusted for anything. May the better team carry the day! Patrotism, my a*s! |

The Enugu State Election Petitions Tribunal, this morning declared the election of Governor Sullivan Chime null and void, saying voting did not take place in most parts of the state. This is indeed a terrible week for the governor, as you will recall, he collapsed, just on Tuesday, at the Michael Opara Square in Enugu while laying a wreath during the Armed Forces Remebrance Day. Also the election of Hon. Terngu Tsegba(PDP) representing Tarka/Gboko Federal Constituency of Benue State in the House of Representatives was annulled by the state election Petitions Tribunal. shapey:I have been following your (true life) story from the onset but have deceided not to contribute until now 'cos justice has already been done by the contributors. I have however decided to come out of my shell because of your comment above. It is indeed serious! I have never been an advocate of inter-tribal/racial marriage (and it will take a lot of bindings, castings and loosings for me to change my mind) especially in this part of the world. Most especially, when you do not speak the same language as your in-laws. To compound the matter, when you marry an African, you are not getting marry to the man alone but to his entire extended family. In such a situation, a good husband can be teleguided to dance to the whims and caprices of this family, even against his will. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in a typical traditional setting, chances are that you will see the "gbaranmidelerus", who will go to any length in "assisting" their "son" to send away the-witch-that-has-come-to-destabilise-the-once-a-peaceful-family. I just pray that God will take absolute control because, this is indeed a serious case. You need a lot of prayers. and soul-searching. But, I know with God, nothing shall be impossible! And for the spinsters, please think twice before you say yes to that Yoruba or okoro guy. Marriage is for-better-for-worse and like they say in Yorubaland: won a maa ba e ka ni o!. |
@NigeriaOne I don't understand what you are talking about. But I do understand that I am responding to what the poster posted. Are you telling me that the blacks in US are as lazy and as irresponsible as the man in question? Or why are you contributing out of context? Dont also forget that I am talking of the commandment of God from Christianity point of view. We seem to forget that you earn any position. It is not thrown to you on a platter of gold. Christ earn the headship of the Church. Adam earn the headship of Eve. And even if it is thrown to you, you must labour to preserve it. Marriage is ordained by God and we should obey his commandment irrespective of what is going on in the world today. It is the direct of God that the husband must undertake the principal part of the government of the whole family, even of the wife herself. And therefore, he must labor to be fit and able for that government which he undertakes. If he is challenged along the line, it is a different keg of gunpowder and everybody will see and understand. It will not be like our man here that was described as lazy and refused to go out and "hustle". Head, my a*s. Like I said before, there is more to manhood and fatherhood than siring children. There is more to headship that being endowed with a long and tubby one-eyed snake (aka gazunga) in between your legs: the head should be the chief provider for the family, whether here in Nigeria, in US, or even in the moon. Chikena. |
I Timothy 5:8- "If any man does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an infidel" There is more to manhood and fatherhood than siring children. Any beast can do that! Manhood, fatherhood is assuming all the responsibilities of a household. It is providing for, protecting, disciplining, and training a family for the glory of God. If a man turns over to his wife the responsibilities of providing for his family, he has gone against the law (if he is a Xtian, anyway) and therefore cannot claim any headship. The rule of law and due process must be followed (nija and grammar). So he is not the head but the a*^e and he should drop trousers immediately and shop for more buba and iro (a la Alamieyeseigha) ![]() |

The House of Repre-sentatives yesterday said it would no longer allow fresh public offers on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and private placements by financial institutions, pending the conclusion of an investigative hearing on the banking consolidation exercise slated for the second week of January, 2008.For details, see http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=99093 I think this is a step in the right direction. If you watch the Presidential Debate last night on CNN, one will no doubt give it to Hillary. Although, there is no way you will not have a political enemy, but the woman was very intelligent and knows her onion. She is also experienced! Besides, except we experience what was done to bring Bush to the throne, the time is up for the Republicans. Hillary will surely go places. |
