TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa 2 (II)! by spora(m): 10:06am On Nov 14, 2007
I have been reflecting on the circumstances behind the triumph of Richard in the final of the BBA II despite all the atrocities he committed in the house. At the end of which I was able to "see" why Richard won. And if that is the case he did "deserve" to win. Sentiment apart!

Remember, it is said that "it is not of him that runneth. It is not of him that willeth. It is of the Lord that showeth mercy". Somebody says shit happens.

1. Majority of BBA fans are youth.
2. These youth chose entertainment over and above morality.
3. Most DStv subscribers do so for entertainment. Richiana provided entertainment.
4. Some even stay overnight to see if “something” will come up and only Richard can provide that “something” Somebody says sex sells.
5. Winner can only come from voting and majority of the voters are youth.
6. Most adult watching BBA only wish Ofunne good luck. But in BBA, the only good luck I know is voting, voting and voting.
7. Mnet claimed it received less than a million SMS. That means majority of the voting comes from the Internet. And who votes via the Internet? Youth!
8. Apart from Ofunne, Richard is also popular, if not more, in the house. Remember thet number of evictions he survived.
9. PR/Entertainment is mostly about fine face and Richard is a “fine face”
10. BBA is a Reality show! Majority felt that Richard was the No. 1 real guy in the house. He exhibited every aspect of himself whether good, bad or ugly. And he stayed by it after all it is imperfection that made us human.
11. Ofunne lost many fans from that Black Saturday episode. Had the voting happened before the episode, we might witness a different result.

When I compared what happened in BBA house to what is happening here on Nairaland, I am more convinced than ever. If you post two topics, One "I am a married woman, and I feel like f**king our houseboy" and Two "How to prepare delicious salad". You will be surprised at the number of traffic and responses the first topic will attract. And that is why romantic stories will continue to enjoy front page here on Nairaland. It is business sense! (and Seun is a business man)  grin grin grin

I don't support that at all especially if it has to come from the tax payer's money. Ofunne has not gone there to represent Nigeria. It is a private affair. However, I will strongly support an encouragement from individuals at least for "representing" us well.

Richard: Uncut and Uncensored
http://www.mnetafrica.com/bigbrother/article/?id=813

Everyone wants a piece of him now that he is the winner of BBA 2, but before they get their hands on him, we managed to corner him and ask him a few difficult questions about his time in the House.

BB: How does it feel to be the winner?
Richard: Very exciting, I'm just trying to do my best as the winner.

BB: Is it weird to be out of the House and do you miss it?
Richard: It's odd but good. No I don't miss it but I did enjoy it.

BB: Did you have any kind of strategy and if so what was it?
Richard: No, no strategy. I was just real. I have lot of confidence and I knew I could do it. What you see is what you get.

BB: The Untouchables really tried to push you, especially in the Jacuzzi. Tells us about all that?
Richard: Yes, they tried and I responded. They had their strategy but I would not back down. That's me, if they bring it, I will stand up to it. You have to, otherwise they would keep on coming. I told them enough is enough. I shouted them down. After that they sunk. They were much softer. You could see they left me alone. They tried to push me with my jealousy and it's a problem I know but it's not their problem. If you are outnumbered you are voiceless, so I raised my voice.

BB: Will you be seeing Tatiana outside of the House?
Richard: Honestly, it makes no sense. We both have our own problems at home. We need to sort these things out. But if they cannot be sorted and seeing her helps me then why not? I won't forget her.
Playboy!. Tati is his lender of last resort
BB: You haven't spoken to your wife yet but what feedback has your family given you about the situation, and how do you feel about it?
Richard: It's not good. They (my Family) are not sure if she will see me. She is very hurt, I know this but you cannot force these things, if she will see me then she will see me. If not, what can I do? But I think she will see me and give me a chance to explain about things in the House.

BB: What will you say to her?
Richard: I will try to explain that no one can understand what it is like in the House. You are cut off from everything, it is not real. I had feelings and I'm that kind of guy. I didn't plan to fall in love. I never forgot her though and it hurt me to know that she was being hurt. I'm sorry but nobody can understand.

BB: Do you think that will be good enough for her?
Richard: No, I don't think so.

BB: What did you expect going into the House?
Richard: I thought I would chill with boys, maybe tease the girls a bit. You know just a bit of fun.

BB: When did you know it was starting to get serious with Tatiana?
Richard: When I bought the flowers. That night when we were in the Penthouse that was the hardest. I seriously considered leaving the House. My father always said you start what you finish, you don't abandon it, so I accepted the reality I was in no matter what the cost.

BB: Tell us about that Saturday?
Richard: Okay, this is what I remember. We were drinking. Then I was kissing Ofunneka. I remember the paramedic pulling me out of the room. I then went back I think and jumped in the middle of the bed. Then me and Ofunneka were kissing and stuff. Then Biggie called me, I think twice. I think I kissed the paramedic and then went to the Diary room. Biggie locked me in and I passed out. I might have mixed stuff up, but I think that's how it happened.
Liar
BB: There has been a lot of controversy about that day, tell us your feelings?
Richard: I was very drunk, I think a lot of people have done these things, I just did them in front of a camera. It was wrong but I'm not a bad person. I don't know what to say. I'm human.

BB: You're a celebrity now, you're sure to have a number of female fans throwing themselves at you, how will you cope with this?
Richard: I don't know how I will act in the future, but I like to think I will be good. I just want to focus on my career.

BB: Tells us about your plans for the future?
Richard: Well As I've said I want to make movies. Hopefully BB has given me exposure and obviously the money will help. Maybe you will come and watch a Richard Bezuidenhout picture in the future. I want to do it properly, professionally. I am very serious and passionate about this.

BB: What are you going to do with the money?
Richard: I'm going to use it to further my career.

BB: You mentioned charity, will you give some away?
Richard: No I never mentioned charity. I will use it for my career and then see.
Business man!
BB: What was the best part of the show?
Richard: I think the fake nominations. We had no idea. When they came back it was completely unexpected, we all thought they had been evicted.

BB: How about the moles?
Richard: I knew from the first moment. They were all in awe of us like they had just arrived and were amazed by us. Also they weren't dynamic enough to get this far. There was no way they would be winners. And Victor started straight away on my jealousy. It was all too convenient.

BB: Was it good to see the other Housemates and is there any resentment?
Richard: Yes it was nice, I especially enjoyed seeing Bertha. We fought at times but I felt she had no bitterness towards me. I have no resentment. It's just a game.

BB: On a lighter note did you shower today?
Richard: No, I didn't, there was no time.

BB: There was no time or there were no cameras? Remember, we all watched you say that you hate showering and once you went 12 days without cleaning.
Richard: Aaaaah dog no way, you were watching that ah. What can I say?

@ Seun, all

I am of the opinion that this forum needs "sanctification" and that has to start from Seun himself. Why is it that you promote disgusting romantic topics over other? To the extent that forumites are now playing on your intelligence?. I can bet my 2 cents on it that most of these stories are concocted and because they are aware they will enjoy front page, they cook it and you buy it. Let me tell you that most of these new members are actually reincarnates. They are opening new accounts because of their sinister motive. There is therefore a need to put up a more secure measure in place to disallow multiple acounts.

The cleansing can commence by prioritisation. What is your aim of starting this forum aside profit making? Traffic? Quantity/Quality of members? Solution Provision?. I mean, this has to be defined.

Until we start promoting intelligent and value adding topics, it is just a matter of time before Nairaland turns to Amala and Gbegiri (apology to Baba Adedibu) forum.

BBA II: The Review (2)

Big Brother Africa 2 is the second series of the Big Brother Africa reality television show produced by (The first season of Big Brother Africa began on May 25th, 2003 and ended on September 7th of the same year, lasting 106 days).  The series began airing on August 5, 2007 and it will end tomorrow Sunday, 11 November 2007 ( a total of 98 days). As with the previous series, the show involves 12 countries within Africa (Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia & Zimbabwe) each producing a contestant living in an isolated house in Johanneburg, South Africa, while trying to avoid being evicted by viewers and ultimately winning a large cash prize at the end of the show. The show is being filmed in a house at Sasani Studios in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg.

After the nominees are revealed to the House, the current Head of House can save a nominee for eviction including themselves if they are nominated and replace the saved nominee with another nominee. While this is revealed to the viewers, the House does not know of the decision until eviction night Sunday.

Voting
Each eviction week viewers in the 12 participating countries vote to eliminate a housemate they do not like. The majority for each country will be counted as a vote. In addition to the 12 participating countries, all other countries not participating in the show can still vote for who they would like to eliminate. The "other countries" counts for the 13th vote.

Head of House
The Head of House (or HOH) is a position in the house that gives one housemate each week special privileges over the other Housemates. During nominations the Head of House can be nominated for eviction by their fellow housemates. BBA Grand Finale: Will Ofunneka Carry The Day?
http://www.thenewsng.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3740

After 98 days of intense maneuvering and backbiting among housemates, the curtain finally falls this weekend on the M-Net Big Brother 2 Television Reality show. Without a doubt, the big question on the lips of every BBA fan in the continent is, who among the trio of Nigeria’s Ofunneka, Angola’s Tatiana and Tanzania’s Richard, will clinch the coveted $100,000 or N12.6 million on offer this Sunday?

Head to head the pendulum appears to be swinging in favour of Ofunneka Molokwu, the 28-year old University of Ibadan trained Chemist, whom viewers across Africa have come to perceive as the most mature housemate in BBA2.

For so long Ofunneka’s homeliness and impeccable kitchen manners have earned her huge fan base and applause from continental viewers of the show known for the ‘bare it all attitude’ of some female housemates.

“Ofunneka deserves the money. Richard and Tatiana have nothing to lose, they have already
achieved their mission by being together,” wrote a viewer from Namibia.

Bright as Ofunneka’s chances may appear, she must contend with the serious threat posed by the Richiana couple who between them parade an equally intimidating fan base. Richard, who has the record of surviving four eviction nominations in the past, stands out as the biggest threat to Ofunneka’s quest to clinch the $100,000 prize money.

“The fact that Richard has survived eviction four times shows that he has a very huge fan base. In fact, he is the only housemate among the finalists that has really gone out to test his popularity,’’ intoned Alex, a viewer in South Africa.

However, Richard’s relationship with Tatiana, which undoubtedly is his biggest selling point, appears to be his biggest albatross in his quest to clinch the coveted pie. While there is little doubt that the couple together command the largest fan base, the fact remains that voters can only vote for one housemate at a time. Thus the Richiana fans must decide who between the duo they have to vote for.

Observers reckon that Ofunneka would automatically benefit from the split in alliance among voters. “Richard and Tatiana will split their votes while Ofunneka’s support base remains intact. You know voters are not allowed to vote for couples because everybody is in the competition as an individual,’’ argued Aderemi, a BBA fan.

If that line of thought is sustained across the continent, then it would take a ‘voting tsunami’ to prevent Ofunneka from dancing to the bank with her new found millions come 7 p.m. on Sunday, 11 November.

BBA II: The Review (1) (Hope I will not make some enemies)

Excerpt of Maureen interview with BB:
BB: Welcome back, how has it been?
Maureen: ******There were people who said they wouldn't accept certain Housemates in the country. Like Bertha and Lerato.

BB: You drove here today with Lerato and Max. How was that?
Maureen: It was uncomfortable. I mean I greeted them and they didn't say anything back. In the car, they were playing music about being untouchable. I'm not going to stoop to any level. In fact, I'll be getting a taxi back today.

BB: So things haven't changed then?
Maureen: No, but I don't have an agenda. I just don't want to be pushed. I mean, we're not in the House anymore.

BB: That's great. Who do you think will win?
Maureen: I don't actually know,  it's very close between Richard and Ofunneka.
Imagine!

There is no doubt that BBA2 has been a complete failure. The show has been the subject of much criticism and controversy. Here is a progamme that "permits"  smoking, alcoholism, excessive drunkenness, nudity, sexual assault, tribalism/racism, inappropriate relationship, "mafiarism" et al.

There is a school of thought with an opinion that most of the items in the house are not "African" and therefore it is not really "Big Brother Africa", but essentially just a Big Brother-style show with African contestants. I think I support this to some extent. Reality Show my foot!, what do you want to gain by showing hms in the bath. Most of these things are unAfricans and we should speak out.

If I may score BBA2, I will not hesitate to say it has achieved the exact opposite of its objective. I think Africans are more divided than ever, if we have to judge from the comments on the net. You read of Ghanians rooting for Ofunne eviction just for no reason. You read about their comments that Nigerians are indirectly buying over Ghana with the rate Nigerian are migrating to Ghana and buying into her economy. Did you remember Kwaku's comment when he was evicted and Ofunne was shown nominating him?. He said "West Africa!". There is more to that simple but sadonic assertion than meet the eye. Kwaku today is praying for Tatiana as the winner.

And nobody should tell me this is just the youth saying rubbish as we sould remember that the youth is the future of a nation. Just as some people can not differentiate between a KOK in a make-belief scenario and a KOK in real life, I doubt if this episode will not create a great enmity amongst Africans.

In as much as I will want this programme to continue, I think there is a need to ammend some of its rules. If there should be any reality show, it show be that that rewards excellence, that reward performance, IQ, integrity, decency, Africanism,  et al as we saw with GUS. That is reality show, meeen!

Why should you say hms should nominate somebody to be evicted?. Why can't they carry out a task, whether mental or pysical and evict from the performance as it is done in selecting HOH?. Why should all the Untouchables go like that. I mean the rules and regualtion have denied us a lot of things.

Did I hear somebody say I am overstressing the issue. I pray so. I just pray so!

Now the big question is this : Is there any need for BBA3? My simple answer is yes, but the rules must be ammended to make it a real BBA that unites Africa.

Or what do you see to this?

I was reading through the BB website this morning and there is this OP with the question "On what basis will you vote for your winner?". The Poll Result is:

Their strategy               70%
Your sympathy               5%
Your patriotism             15%
Eeni meeni mieni mo huh 10%

However, this is a clear departure from one get to read on the same website from the users' comments. My conclusion, therefore, is that if the result will be based on this OP, there is no doubt that the master (or is it mistress?) strategists in the house is homegirl and therefore the dough is hers.
