Jodera: Lol... For some reason, I'm not happy for his length of injury, at least 1 month out was what I was hoping for. I just hope Sambi lokonga and Maitland Niles(either of them) will be able to take their chances. Another thing I'm afraid of is that Arteta might pair odegaard with partey while bringing pepe into the fold. I feel xhaka alongside partey gives us balance compared to partey-odegaard.
I just hope Arteta doesn't do that
Based one our last three matches, Arteta prefers a 4-3-3 formation with a single pivot. Xhaka's absense will only push it. Sorry to say that means Pepe will come into the mix. I hope he still keeps Saka on the RW.
Jodera: I'm not against your choice, but the reason(or criteria) Is what I said you're emotional about. What you're saying is equivalent to saying that Auba suppose to win player of the year cos he's a fine boy or he just came back from long layoff injury.
Potm ought to be performances and impact on the pitch and not cos fans rejected him or he's coming from a different league or things like that. When you start giving such reasons, it means you're giving it from emotional reasons
I get what you mean, but that criteria was after I said they all deserve it based on performance, and because we must choose one person sentiment has to come in.
I remember back in Pri sch, two guys tied on grades, but because one must win the award, he was given based on his neatness.
So my choice (after performance) was based on who had the most difficult terrain. For me that's Ramsdale.
Jodera: Lol, same way Porto is bigger than arsenal, that doesn't mean their league is stronger then England. Ajax is the only club in Holland, wen he enters stronger league and a good club(like Villarreal, Leicester, sevilla, Napoli and the likes). Wen he does that, I'll rate him not just one Ajaxliga league and you want me to rate him
So wen he does such and impresses, alert me lemme eat the delicious L of your choice you'd serve me
How is Porto bigger than Arsenal? Unless you are playing.
I blame Ohaneze Ndigbo for not providing leadership when they needed to and even now. Also anyone doing politics at this crucial time is on their own. All hands must be on deck to redeem Igboland.
I condemn the killings and hold Ohaneze responsible for lack of leadership. However whoever is carrying politics on their head now under this Biafran struggle is doing himself.
BlueRayDick: Arsenal player of the month contenders...
I think Tomiyasu has impressed me the most ; he has my vote considering what he’s offered compared to what dem Bellerin, Chambers and co served us in the recent past.
It would be hard to pinpoint who's the best performer so far because most of the guys have been impressive. The criteria has to be adjusted to who made more impact from the most difficult conditions. That would fall between Tomiyasu and Ramsdale.
Tomi had little time to acclimatize and easily blended in. Ramsdale on the other hand was actually rejected by fans as bad luck and a waste of funds. Between the two, I'd give it to Ramsdale. He proved everyone wrong with his performance and won over the hearts of fans.
daveP: Whatever you think Edouard is, he's dangerous and can hurt a defence.
Of course, there is no team that once dominated in Midfield, that their top striker won't be starved. Lukaku has been in that situo severally.
As for Zaha, ya almost right.
And again, since Vierra rates him, that's all i need. He was once on our radar, remember?
Edoaurd and Lukaku are not same type of strikers. It's funny comparing them sha. But Edoaurd is a poacher kind, can't play when his team is defending. He can't hold up play. Lukaku is all opposite. He can stand alone as a lone striker and can take up two defenders with his pace and strength on a counter.
BlueRayDick: Hmmmm...I hope either Lokonga or Mitland-Niles will make use of his imminent absence to convince Arteta to partner either of them with Partey
A healthy competition between Bikes and Lokonga will mean they will improve and even surpass what Xhaka offers.
daveP: That Brighton defence is shaky. Saw what Troussard played against Crystal? If he plays like that against Pepe or Saka, there'll be a pk and/or red card. I don't think BA will be a problem. But vs Edouard and Zaha, i expect a big and real test for our two new defenders.
Aston may be shocked. Leicester? Not as tough as Aston IMO.
I do t know why people rate Edoaurd so highly. He is a goal poacher not a biter. Once his team is dominated in midfield, he's done. As for Zaha, he only needs a tough guy to man mark him and he will be frustrated. Once he is, he starts playing rubbish.
Brighton A Crystal Palace H Aston Villa H Leeds H Leicester A Watford H
Can take 14points minimum.
Palace may be tough. The rest..... Dem go hearam.
I expect we win all those games as we will always be fresh and hungry without European distractions. Each of those games cone with unique challenges, but we have all itftakes to dominate those teams and come out with max points.
Pepe can be very dangerous but that's only when he is in the box. I have said this several times. He needs to be in the box. The only way for that to happen is if he plays as a support striker. So whether he is playing LW or RW if he can't get himself inside the box, he is of little use.
Barryseal: thanks TT for not shaming me. My complete faith in him when he first signed is being justified. Shout out to Gabriel who was the man of the match for me. He cleared, tackled and out fought every player he came against. Played like a throwback Sol Campbell, absolute monster of a defender. Ramsdale was on another level entirely. I critisized his signing but had to stop when I heard he took his grandfather's ash to his Arsenal unvealing. That was a clear signal he was for business. He has shown why he has been player of the year for his 3 previous clubs. You all owe him an apology
It's just you and Kokane who owe him an apology. Lol.
Yes a good keeper communicates with defence.....My question to you is; Is Leno a dumb that doesn't talk to his defenders? The answer is NO!
I've watched Leno play since the moment Cech made way for him and I can say it categorically he is far from an average goalkeeper, in fact he's a very good goalkeeper who has saved our asses countless times even when we had clowns manning our defence. The fact that the team is playing well overall in his absence doesn't make him a bad keeper. Na agenda dey make una single out Ramsadale as if he's the Bruno man utd signed that year.
If our defence and midfield goes back to what dem Chambers, Holding, Xhaka et al were serving us late last season and early this season, you will see that this "vocalization" you keep singing to high heaven will mean absolutely nothing.
I am a fan who gives credit to performing players and I rightly commended Ramsdale for his shwoing yesterday; same with Partey,Tomiyasu, my ever dependable Gabriel and even the Xhaka I am a lifetime critic of.
Leno is not a bad keeper but there is a reason why Ramsdale came in and benched him. That reason is communication. If Leno can learn to be as vocal as Ramsdale (perhaps his English) he will be the better keeper. Please note this properly.
Jencejyde: Honestly I feel they need to help Pepe personally, he has some scary attributes but they need to help him discipline those raw attributes and turn them into outstanding and consistent performance. I notice how Saka pressed compared to how Pepe presses. Huge difference in understanding not to to talk of quick decision making.
Honestly I feel Pepe can make us an even greater threat but time is running out and he either needs to ask for help to remove deficiencies in his game or coaching staff needs to personally help him.
If we have him and Saka performing at optimal levels we should be doing very well
Pepe cannot boss any position. He can either manage being backup to Saka on the RW or seek first team football elsewhere. The only other option is try to replace Aubameyang as top striker. He has the finish and movement in the box, but he cannot transition from midfield to attack. Pepe will be a good option if we choose to play two strikers. Otherwise, na bench.
BlueRayDick: Calm down, everyone is playing well presently....It's not just About Ramsdale. There's the rock solid Gabriel, the Japanese machine Tomiyasu and the always bubbly Tierney on the left.
I give it to Ramsdale for his ball distribution which he use to obviously edge Leno, but if na that save dey make u hyper I can bring out videos of Leno making more of such saves in Arsenal goal.
Let's just credit the whole team and hope they get better.
It's not about the saves or even the ball distribution. It's the vocalisation, the command. If you have played defense you will appreciate a keeper that tells you where to go and who to mark. That is priceless. No matter how good you are as a goalkeeper, if you can't command your box18, you're average.
edi287: I hope some of y'all are seeing why we signed Odegaard. He faded off a bit in the second half but that dude is a baller!! Nice football brain he has. Partey and Xhaka were immense! Let's hope Partey gives us 30 games this season. Saka's should be played on the right ALWAYS.
Odegaard is a gift really and he can only get better with time.
Xhaka plays well with Partey, everyone does. But credit to Xhaka too.
Roland17: An absolutely fantastic performance from the entire team. While I remain one of his biggest critic, I am humble enough to give Arteta the credit he deserves for setting up this team to succeed from the start. We were aggressive, physically dominant, intense and played purposeful football.
He lacks game management, I keep saying it. He would have replaced Xhaka minutes before we conceded. Ramsdale was really angry about conceding that goal. I like his jaguda style. My future captain.
Roland17: I don talk am before and I go talk am again… A healthy Thomas Teye Partey will walk into the first 11 of any of the traditional top team in the EPL..
Welcome to Philadelphia, USA, where walking zombies, many homeless, poverty-stricken, high on meth, codeine, crack, heroin, and other deadly drugs, fill city streets!
Many pack guns underneath their shabby clothes, so you dare not start an argument with any of them or it's goodbye Mama!
Na person wey don chop go fit do drugs. In Nigeria our addiction is hunger. There they are all wearing nice snickers, no one is bare footed. Enter Oshodi and see...
daveP: Arteta said all squad are ready and available for selection come NLD. I hope he sees his chance to shine. Even a shltty Arsenal player that shines at NLD will attain cult hero status till next season.
Lol.
We are at home. Nuno will park the bus knowing his team is vulnerable at the moment. The key thing here for Arteta is anticipation and proactiveness in game management. That's why he's being paid and we are not.
I hope Ramsdale will bring that 'agbero' mentality I saw Vs Burnley to motivate the defenders in front of him. As long as we dont concede, we will win.
afrodoc2: What i am saying is that the Man City not filling its stadium point does not apply here. Man City is a 30 thousand to 40 thousand capacity stadium club playing in a 55,000 capacity stadium. A club like City has been developing greater and greater appeal globally and still can't fill their ultramodern stadium consistently, despite playing the best football and winning titles galore. This is because of the difference between the nature of fandom globally and its nature locally.
Arsenal has been bigger than Man City for almost a century so they will always outsell Man City in England (at least for the next several years). Being a football fan in England is a generational thing so until the new breed Man City fans grow up, start having their own children, and more importantly start buying tickets for themselves and family, City will be behind the traditional big clubs in England.
On the other hand it is easier for a club to become a global brand as most of the rest of the world are new fans anyway with no familial links to these clubs. Most people are just after the reigning team and jump ship once a hotter prospect come along. Or how many people here had their grandparents supporting Arsenal? For example, almost every Nigerian Chelsea fan i know personally was supporting Arsenal as recently as 2000. Within 20 years almost everybody moved to Chelsea. You can't get that kind of swing in England.
Those who attend games are the local fans. That's what we are talking about. City have as much local fans as the likes of the London clubs and almost as United. It's the global fanbase that is not as huge. Arsenal fans are more loyal (probably because it's based in London) that's why they attend games to capacity.
There's no other logical reason for me for the organisers to leave airing our Carabao cup live than to encourage stadium attendance. I stand to be corrected.
daveP: Quite true. But this one is about exorbitant fees for a player. See Gallas latest talk?! Ferdinand, Mason, etc. Ben should sha focus and work harder to prove them wrong.
Someone even said he left Brighton and they got better.
Ben is a technical defender, not the rugged clear- the -ball type. What he brings is game plan and strategy. Such types are rare. That's what the likes of Pep (and Arteta) wants, unlike coaches like Jose. I believe he will come good with time as he beds in. Saliba on the other hand is not as technically gifted as White, but his stats will be better because as defenders they will be judged by defensive stats like ball clearance, tackles, duels etc.
