afrodoc2: You have to consider that Man City is traditionally a relatively small club with a small fan base in England. Most of their new fans and the new interest they are garnering is outside England, and that is the audience Live TV transmission is catered towards.
They might have 100m new fans WORLDWIDE who want to watch their games on TV from their own continents but that won’t translate to butts on seats in the stadium. There is a good reason why their stadium is lovingly known as the Emptyhad stadium. Relative to who? Because I can say Femi Otedola is poor relative to Bill Gates. There's been no concrete statement why the Arsenal match was not aired live. But it's definitely not because the club is fallen. |

daveP: I saw that flick. Spectacular. I really do hope AMN gets his chances. But Time. I see Xhaka starting vs Spurs no doubt. He and Laca.
And he'd definitely pull an extraordinary performance. Both of them. Hopefully, Kane no go use Ramsdale restore form.
Also for the Spurs game, I'd like a supersub situation. Saka perhaps. If those two boiz, ESR and Odegaard start, expect Spurs raking up some red card.
I hope we take due advantage of any setpiece situation. The game might be won from there. I can't see Laca starting ahead of Aubameyang. As for Saka, being a super sub for like two/three games will help his mentality, to re-energise his brain. Spurs aren't in form and they have injuries. But those won't count on derby Day. Any how we see am we take. But I have high hopes as usual. |

kokanepyramid: There’s nothing like reserving match for Stadium fans. What does that even mean? and how do you come up with these things? Whether a match is shown live or not there’ll always be 1. cameras just like in live matches it just does not get transmitted live. Every match is recorded kept on file and can be shown later on TV, 2. but not live. It can also be shown in future editorials and programs. 1. Emphasis on 'full' cameras dude. Stop picking your nose. 2. So why was it not shown live? Be careful with your answer cos it will sound stupid. |

His partnership with Lokonga is very dynamic. I see both excelling together, especially when Partey leaves for AFCON. On to the NLD. Will Xhaka be back? Who would you prefer to pair with Partey? |

BlueRayDick: Did anybody here watch the match live? I thought I was the only one who couldn't get any streaming link online until I saw fans complaining under the highlight video posted on Arsenal's IG's page.
How do we not get a match being played at Emirates transmitted live? How? From the highlights it's clear there were full cameras. How it wasn't streamed is a mystery. Probably they reserved that match for the stadium fans. Reason why tickets where sold out. |

That Madison isn't on form now doesn't mean he won't pick up, or whenever he plays his team must win, must assist or give up good stats.
Again, let's see at by mid season or ending. You mean Odegaard can never be better than Maddison or what? Those who are praising Odegaard are doing so because of fans like you that always see greener grasses in your neighbors yard. |

Roland17: I have preference for the 2nd line up because I prefer Gabriel in the middle of the back 3 as I don’t trust White in the middle. With that being said, I will switch ESR with Saka for the WB role. It's actually a transition phase, when one full back attacks and the other having to tuck in. |

BlueRayDick: How does a RB cover-up for a LB that has gone upfield to attack ? Are suggesting Gabriel drifts to LB at that point and Tomiyasu covers CB along with White? They will form a back three if either full back overlaps or joins Partey in midfield. This is to add more bodies in the opponents area while securing the back. ........... Auba ........ Pepe.......... Tierney.. ESR..Odegaard. Saka .................. Partey ................. ... Gabriel... White... Tomi.... ........... Auba ........ Pepe.......... ESR..Odegaard. Saka... Tomi .................. Partey ................. ... Tierney..Gabriel... White... I am even seeing a case where White can cover up in DM, as Partey pushes further up. But that would be risky. |

edi287: I think it had more to do with Burnley finally opening up a bit and the energy Lokonga and AMN brought when they came in. ESR does feel a bit uncomfortable playing as one of the 8s though. I noticed Arteta switched him to the left while Saka moved to the middle during the game. Hopefully he adapts soon. I refer ESR on the LW too. But Saka playing 8 with Ødegaard won't bring the best in him. I will rather like to see him on the RW and Pepe as a support Striker since he likes to dribble. That will also get him closer to the box which is where we all want him to be. ............. Auba ....... Pepe.............. ESR............ Odegaard......... Saka ...................... Partey...................... Tierney. Gabriel.. White.... Tomi With this formation we can get the best from both Saka and Pepe, also since Tomi can cover at CB, whenever Tierney pushes forward he will easily tuck in there and vice versa. With the acquisitions of White and Tomi, and the form of Pepe, this was what I expected Arteta to do. He should forget 'Xhaka must play' and do what's right for the team especially against weaker opposition that park the defense. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 9:59pm On Sep 20, 2021 |
edi287: I like this 4-3-3 Arteta is trying to implement. The main issue is Partey's fitness is extremely unreliable and Xhaka doesn't suit this at all. We honestly should've pushed for Aouar if we were going to go this route. I still prefer ESR on the left than through the middle. Club should start planning for life after Partey. It's clear we won't be able to get a full season out of him. The formation favours attack more which is what we want. But I noticed that in our match against Burnley, when we switched to a double pivot- Lokonga/AMN, we had more attacking intent. So for the 433 to succeed, our front men must know how to keep and hold possession. |

Roland17: Arsenal U-23 Update
The kids have enjoyed a good start to the new season. Despite suffering a red card in the first half, they defeated Chelsea 6-1.
Balogun scored a brace, M. Biereth scored a hatrick and an own goal from Chelsea's Lewis Hall.
Last week, they defeated Manchester United 3-1 with Balogun scoring a brace and my boy Patino with a spectacular solo effort and a elite finish.
Overall, a lot of progress has been made this season. They sit 2nd on the table 1 point behind City who they play next weekend.
I want Balogun to continue to work with the U-23 and get some play time during cup games. As for Patino? He looks really really confident. Azeez started for Portsmouth as an AM (Call me a prophet) in their home loss yesterday. He saw 59 minutes of action before he was substituted. The U23 looks very promising. Most of them are not far from first team action. I remember you said Azeez is more of an AM. I haven't seen him with Portsmouth but I will hail you when I confirm. |

BlueRayDick: Well, this excuse in bold was not made for Leno during Emery ball and under Ljunberg when he was facing gazillion of shots weekly ; we all agreed it was free entry and free exit going on in the midfield that allowed opposing team attackers always have access to goal.
I've never said Ramsdale is not a good keeper, neither did I say he was poor in yesterday's match. I credited those whom I see putting their body on the line all through the match to snuff burnley attack of and those guys are Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Partey and even Odegaard.
Like I said I will give him credit when I'm able to assess his all rounder goalkeeping prowess and not just ball distribution from the back alone. Talking about the emboldened on your quotation of my post, do you agree? It's a known weakness of Leno's inability to communicate with his backline. This has been identified as part of our defensive problems. Your opinion on Ramsdale is ok. But he was officially MOTM FYI. |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 5:33am On Sep 19, 2021 |
BlueRayDick: I already credited him for being aware in the aerial department.....but I've not seen him face the amount of shots Leno faced under Emeryball and even under Ljunberg and Arteta......
When he faces half of those shots and does really well then I will give him the credit for it. Don't forget this is the Ramsdale that's been in goal for 2 different relegated clubs.... I want to see him step up real big before I start giving him credit I may need to retrieve in the future. I am referring to the particular match alone not generally as a goalkeeper. As per the match, one thing we don't realise is that a goalkeeper that has the ability to effectively direct his defense line will face less shots, similar to how goalkeepers arrange their wall during a free kick. So in essence, facing much shots is a pointer that the guys in front of a GK aren't getting the proper directions they need. |

BlueRayDick: I've seen Leno made much more superb goal-bound shots before..... I'm only impressed by his aerial comannd and nothing more.
He's not been rally exposed /tested like Leno has been.....When the time comes I will praise him having fully convinced me he's a better keeper.
Leno and Martinez are two keepers I've seen show themselves to be really good at pulling saves. When I see Ramsdale do that he will get my praise. What you may not have noticed is his control on the game. There's this thing about great goalkeeping that manages the pressure, flow and tempo. Ramsdale's performance today is not about saves, but game management which to me is more important. Game management affects the entire team. |

BlueRayDick: Personally I also feel that act by pep might just be a self destruct button he has pulled by himself. I am of the school of thought that a coach/manager as part of his job should be able to spot and select the captain for his leadership skills, his ability to coordinate and the general respect the team shows such player.
I believe it's a sign of weakness or attempt by the meneger to shift one of his responsibility to the players by putting the captaincy to a vote. Most players like most humans will do will surely make the mistake of putting sentiments first and may end up selecting the wrong person for the job ( like we do see in politics). However, if the manager and his assistants/management team already have a list of criteria upon which they will make their choice for the captain, it will help them get the right man for the job without the players' emotions/ sentiments getting in the way.
In summary, personally I think Emery was wrong and Pep is also wrong doing the same. I think Emery made a list of 5 captains of which the players would choose the main one. It's a better step for me than taking an autocratic decision. That way the team becomes more responsible in the actualisation of team objectives. |
