I was one of the optimists going into this game iamoyindamola is a witness to that. Saying I am happy with the result and content with mediocrity is a slander on my reputation on here. I am grossly disappointed with the result.

But If you read between the lines of my post you’ll find I’m looking at the team from the perspective of manager influence. If you ask me, Again I’ll say Arteta has improved the team considering what he inherited. Let him get a TW and Preseason cos there’s absolutely nothing much he can do about Kola, Mustafi and Luiz playing right now unless you want him to enter pitch.
I get your point jare.

I may not buy the idea, but at least I get what you are trying to point out.

A topic on who should we let go out of our current midfielders

Dani ceballos stay

Xhaka stay

Willock stay

Guendozi leave

Ozil leave

Torreira. leave

AMN. leave

A reply from a fan culled below...

I agree with all the above except Xhaka. To be effective in the modern game a good defensive midfielder MUST have the following skills –
ability to turn quickly with the ball on both sides
creativity, vision and leadership
good in the air
athletic ability and speed
ability to shield the back four and tackle
ability to dictate pace of play
Ever since the departure of Alex Song and Francis Coquelin this position has been vacant.
How everyone thinks Xhaka is a DM baffles me. He plays there doesn't mean he is. It's like saying Auba is a winger.

That's why I said thank God, because Luiz would score own goal, cause penalty and get red carded as Guen would not cover him.

You can not sell to another club if the player refuses to go/ sign. The above scenario is possible if Ozil says he wants to leave. It’s a contract and the terms are in Ozil’s control and that is why he is not worried about not playing.

Do you remember Ozil also refused the 12.5% paycut when the team was on break? It would be very difficult to find a team willing to take that contract, even half of it.

He will run down the days of his contract and move at his own discretion to a team of his preference after he becomes a free agent.
Then it's a bitter lesson our club must learn and never allow any other player put them in that situation again.

if we can afford to get an “A” list Left Winger it’ll be fine. Martinelli deputises on the left, while Saka and Pepe rotate the right. Auba and Laca can share the CF role, with Auba being first choice for EPL and LACA being first choice in cup games.

We can then be throwing in them Nketiah and Willock here and there.

I just want us to have a strong squad and reliable bench.
You think Arsenal can afford an A list winger under the covid19 situation? It will be nice though, but I doubt it.

My opinion is that our attackers can still do one or two till January transfer compare to our wreck midfield.

So, our midfield should be prioritize now nd the attackers later, just seeking about you people's observation on them dont change my words abeg...
Our attack is complete in my opinion, we already have Martinelli to rotate with Saka.

We don't need 10. Arteta hardly used one. If I have to sign two players only it will be a DM and a winger.

These are two areas that can easily bolster our team. If I should add one more it will be a really decent CB.

Our midfield today only has 1 EPL goal this season and it came a week ago. Need to get better players in..

The entire midfield is not good enough for top4, except ( Ceballos who is also a bit inconsistent) and Torriera( Who is also not physical and dominant enough).
Any additional will depend on whether Guendouzi or Ozil leaves, and the type of midfielder Arteta wants. If not, possibility of Arsenal buying a midfielder is slight.

Well, As usual, The manager and some will be scapegoated again.
The owners have given us loan with soft interest and no collateral. So we like children without parents can manage through the transfer window.

Something tells me we have concluded 80% of our transfer business for next season. Our defence is ready (Saliba, Soares and Mari), attack too with the Saka deal, and midfield probably with Ceballos. God willing we sell Guendouzi for a good fee, so we can get a decent DM like Partey.

E be like say u know pass the EPL management undecided

Even the acronym VAR should tell u they are Assistant Referees which means the centre referee still has the final say.
The centre referee makes the call base on advice from VAR. He is almost bound to follow the advice just as he follows his lines men. Pitch side monitors become necessary when he is in doubt. Both use of VAR and pitch side monitors are supposed to aid the red in making informed decisions. So we expect a high level of consistency. In other leagues such inconsistent decisions have been reduced to minimal, but the EPL is still ladened with controversies just as when there were to technology involvement.

You may be right, but a ref don't even need VAR to judge that incident as one that has serious foul play. The ref even watched the pitch-side screen and was convinced it's a very reckless challenge. Don't forget at the end of the day the ref still has his final say in most cases
VAR can and do overrule a referee's decision if they feel he was not in the best position to make a call. The thing is VAR and pitch side reviews were introduced to ensure consistency in decision making and create a balance of officiating. Based on these, VAR is a failure in England.

The appeal failed just like I thought. The review of the incident was always going to be independent of any other red card decision. The kid got overzealous with his tackle and the call was the right one if you ask me. I always say, don't get into any situation where you are forcing the referee to make a decision against you.
The red card was the main point of the issue. The point is having consistency in decision making. Where there is no consistency issues like this will always create a debate. In addition, it is abysmal if same laws don't apply in all cases, scenarios and individuals. Laws cannot be independent of other decisions, that's why references are made to other similar cases.

Arsenal is appealing.

The fact is VAR has failed to correct the ills of poor officiating we hoped it would. Wenger was clearly against using technology as it does negate human error and opens the door for more sentimental decisions with little room for query.

Funny you man.

You either didn't watch the video you posted or you were baised in your view. OG's contribution was never in doubt. I didn't say he was tournament MVP, I said he was an integral part of the set up that helped Mbappe and Griezmann lead France to the title. To be honest, Giroud's unselfish play was integral to Griezmann and Mbappe tearing through teams the way they did. With Kante doing the dirty work, Matuidi harrying opponents from his slightly advanced LM role and Pogba being an orchestrator, Giroud was the perfect foil.
This is not to excuse his lack of goals or even shots on target though.

E be like say u want make we drag Giroud today sha....

Giroud was more of a passenger in that world cup. He didn't give any man of the match performance in any of the matches he played. Anthony Griezmann was man of the match in 3 games, Mbappe was man of the match in 2 different matches, Ngolo Kante a defensive midfielder was even man of the match vs Denmark, even Umtiti wey be defender gave man of the match performance vs Belgium.

How is Giroud responsible for anything with his 0 shots on target as a striker?
So how come he played every single game? How come he was preferred over others like Laca at CF. Tell us o with tactical explain. No shalaye... Lol

No intent from Vardy and immediately he knew his stud got into Mustafi's face, he apologized.

Nketiah's tackle was reckless. Forget babyface and all these defending him.

And overall, i consider this a crappy foolish mistake from Arteta.

I saw absolutely no reason for the removal of Lacazette. He should have only removed Saka that was evidently tired and just jogging. Laca was all fiery in pressing and even got an offside goal.

I guess he's allowing his love for Nketiah to get into hi tactical onus. Something evident with Pep.

Laca would never do that kind of rough play. Never.

Is Pepe on paternity leave? He should have been a good replacement for Saka.

Nketiah cannot do well with those kinda Tierney accurate crosses.

Arteta should wake up and apply sense here.

Gladly, the Xhaka Fortune of play and no loss continues.

Tottenham will be scared of him. He is always loose and seeing space when playing against them.
Talking about Xhaka, have you noticed his renewed desire to blow shots from deep? smiley
