BlueRayDick: Well, I don't know the reason why this was not reviewed, but I know once a player let's his stud fly up and ends up making contact with the opposing player like in Nketiah's case there is a case of serious foul play that can get u a maximum punishment of being sent off.
I don't dispute the fact that those refs at times just mess up matches by overlooking some match changing events, but there's no how that Nketiah's challenge is not a straight red card. If the tackle had missed the player, he would've walked free unfortunately there was contact. Same with this one. Guess the loserpool match ref and VAR were just being unfortunate That's what I was trying to let you and Kokaneprodigy know that VAR lacks consistency in deciding cases and it is a big let down. I can understand when a referee makes a mistake but VAR was introduced to correct such but have failed miserably. Imagine how they chalked off Crystal Palace equaliser against Man Utd the reason being Ayew has a bigger toe. |

Emery's worst was dropping to 8th, but you sti can't surpass that 8th. Emery's best was 5th and UCL, and you still can't get pass round 32. Emery is good at managing poverty. Give him riches and he will abuse it. In his first season, he got shit players but managed to play to their strengths. I remember him attacking with full backs on both sides without wingers. Then we thought if he had wingers he would kill teams. He had wingers in his second season, but we still haven't recovered from the debacle he caused. |

Jodera: come on. Laporte came in When they've already won a league title under guardiola and with or without him, they would still have won last season cos he was mostly injured.
So schmelzer is a world class defender, same as Hummels too? Lol. Lemme stop there.
Morgan and Huth?? Seriously?? Great defenders?
Go and check Leicester winning season. They average 2-3 goals per match. And they conceded in over half of the matches that season. So how is that "defence win me title"? Man city is a good example too but I've brought that one in the beginning.
All your points being brought are been countered with facts, you should be the one eating humble pie bro. Anyways Let's just agree to disagree. Haba my man, Laporte was mentioned by Arteta describing how City tried to improve their squad this season as the way Arsenal should go. Arteta said what makes a team solid is a good defender and goalie. For you to say Hummels and Schmelzer were not above average is irresponsible to be honest. Leicester was not a great team and scored few goals to become champions. They stayed in the race because of their defensive performances rather than attacking prowess. Morgan and Huth had such great understanding that they were hard to beat. They played over 30games together. Huth was signed that year. Leicester scored 68goals, too poor to be champions. They conceded just 36. In contrast Man City scored 71 but conceded 41 the same season and finished 3rd. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 2:56pm On Jul 15, 2020 |
Jodera: When I mean goal/goal, I meant both teams conceding(like they hardly keep clean sheets) and not goal ratio the way you interpreted it. You said I should give you teams that won leagues/major cups and you'll name 2 world class defenders from there. I called you klopp Dortmund and Leicester. Both teams hardly kept clean sheets and I want you to name two world class defenders from those teams as you offered to do This is Arteta today, I mean today... "You get one of the best defenders in the world with one of the best goalkeepers in the world and one of the best holding midfielders in the world and you change pretty quickly. You can see that at City when Laporte came in. That’s the way I believe a team has to be built." To your question, Dortmund had Hummels, Schmelzer and Subotic. The first two were German NT CBs. Leicester had Morgan and Huth, Leicesters's defensive output was more due to their team formation. They played a defensive 442 that season and caught most teams on counter. In fact Leicester is the typical 'defense win me title' example. They scored little but conceded less. By mentioning Leicester you shoot yourself really. Why not mention a team like City? You know you can't because City won the league by changing their entire back line. More? Eat the humble pie bro, I'm tired. |

Jodera: Lol OK... Lemme see if I can give my answer to the 4 you posited
1... Yes both of us agree on that one 2.. It's relative. Some sch of thought coaches like Wenger, klopp and guardiola, fergie believe in scoring goals (not as if they don't believe in defence ---( don't get me wrong), but not world class defenders per se) while some others like mourinho and simeone believe in not conceding. I know whom I'll choose between the two classes. 3.. I know it's Ferguson. Lol. But at least you get the message I'm passing across there. 4.. Let's start with Dortmund's klopp. Even Leicester league winning run. Check weda goal/goal no sure that year (using bet9ja slangs) 1 is off. For no 2, there is no relativity there. We must agree that not conceding guarantees you won't lose at least, worst draw. It goes to show that football is slightly skewed towards defense than attack. I mean, this one is clear For no 3, I respect your opinion if you differ. You may even be a better manager than Fergie, who knows No 4 is the real deal. First, you can't use goal ratio. This is because, having a strong defense could mean a very high goal. In fact, we can't use maths stats here, it won't work. A close stat could be no of goals needed to win a league season. We do the average and see which teams won below the average. This too is not a yard stick. But let's try? |

Jodera: Bro, I'm not getting you wrong sincerely. It's you that's getting me wrong. Why do I say so? You said " attack win you games, defence win you league". And that's the issue here. We never reach to carry league na.. It's top 4 we're hoping on. A good midfield and attack can make us top 4 the way it normally helps us then. Then once we've settled it, we can think of league by getting the best defence. There's hardly any team that win league solely on good defence. I can just name only two (athletico and inter of 2010). But I can count so many number of teams that won leagues and cups with good midfield and attack but average defence. Hahaha. OK. Let's analyse. First of all we must agree that both defense and attack must be good for a team to be successful. Secondly, not conceding guarantees you won't lose. But no matter how many goals you score, there is always the probability of losing. You win by how few you concede not by how much you score. Thirdly the statement you quoted wasn't mine, it was that of Sir Alex Ferguson. The less said I believe the better. Fourthly, mention any team that won anything and I will give you at least two world class defenders in their ranks. In fact teams have beaten others who possess better attack than theirs due to superior defending. Barcelona Vs Chelsea comes to mind. Let me stop here. |
