pazienza: On the contrary, I think he shortchanged Arsenal. This is a player that is always perpetually injured and on treatment table, yet Arsenal kept patience with him. He came back from injuries and was crappy, needing few games to regain sharpness, only to get injured again once he was hitting form. A very inconsistent player, yet we kept faith in him. Now because of Gazidis and Wenger stupidity, we are losing a player we spent years developing for free. The club will get nothing to reinvest in his replacement. Look at how much Liverpool got from Sterling,Suarez and Coutinho sales. And look at how much we are getting from selling our own best players, and you see why we declined and could no longer afford to compete in the transfer market for top talents.
Ramsey is a greedy SOF, I don't blame him though, I blame Wenger and Gazidis for allowing him run down his contract, when we could have sold him seasons ago and reinvest the funds, when he started stalling on his contract renewal.
If you don't know, know it now. Ramsey is only getting that much in weekly wages because Arsenal will get nothing for his transfer to Juventus, it was same for Sanchez. They purposely stalled contract negotiations with Arsenal by requesting for wages they know the club cannot afford, so that they could run down their contract, leave on free, and get fat wages in new clubs who would simply use the money they could have paid Arsenal in transfer fees to reward them with fat wages.
Ramsey put his own greed ahead of the club survival, and Gazidis/Wenger indulged him. I remember that Suarez had to renew his contract with Liverpool before they sold him, so that Liverpool could get so much from his transfer to buy a replacement, the same thing was applicable to Coutinho. Ramsey shortchanged Arsenal. Absolute rubbish. In fact it was Arsenal who shortchanged Ramsey with fans' bad mouth and lack of technical insight. We couldn't good in q talented young man. Some bashed Wenger for sticking with him. Now he is getting rewarded, he will play CL football, and win league titles. |

MrDojo: I'm happy for him, too. Although Arsenal did not reward his loyalty, God has rewarded him with a fat pay check (among the top 10 highest paid players in the world). And, from next season baba will start winning league titles and have a shot at wining the Champions league.
If not for his injuries and inconsistencies, he would have been a very, very good player. But, on a personal note, I won a bet with my dad. I told him Ramsey will turn out to be the better player, between Jack and Rambo. Good luck, Ramsey. You'll always be remembered as the man who ended how trophy drought.

I don't get this.
Every player is different with different physiques, skill sets and all. Two players may play the same wing/role but will do so in totally different ways.
Laca and Auba are both CFs but totally different. That's why they respect each other.
Who is better? Depends on how you want to play. When you have your back against the post, you need Laca. When you are on front foot, use Auba. Reason why Laca does better against top sides, but Auba enjoys the rest. |

Fkhalifa: I'm not blaming the entire teams failure on Ozil, like some are doing for Matteo.. I meant no matter how bad your teammates are, A player of Ozil's calibre is expected to put up a performance that will make him outstanding from the bad bunch..
I mentioned Carzola and Rosciky because, no matter how bad the game Or season went, they most times are the ones who could lift their head up,applaud fans and be proud of their display.
I remembered a game at old Trafford in Santi's first season, he was running, crossing, shooting and eventually scored a beautiful goal,we lost 2 vs 1, carzola won the motm even ahead of the utd men.
Roscky & carzola didn't win much laurels, but they are like Viera and Pires in the heart of most fans.
The last game at city where everyone was poor, Matteo and Torreira stood out, and have been receiving praise here and there since Sunday.
Sanchez,Suarez were also like that, but ozil hardly is and can even be the worst among the bad bunch.
We aren't saying he should turn a magician and cover the mess of the team, but at least let's be able to say " oh what a bad performance, only ozil and so so stood out.
Ozil isn't alone on this for me, I lash Aubameyang to, as an experienced, expensive big name player, fans look up to you to drive and push the entire team up, whatever then happens, we can then say, he did all he could but was let down by the mediocre teammates. The English are brutes. That is why they enjoy the physicality of the league. Wenger started changing all that by introducing sleek players. Ozil is sleek, but he has a poor demeanor which doesn't portray a gladiator kind of guy like the Sanchez or Suarez you mentioned. A poor demeanor hides all the facts. Take time to study Ozil's stats, and you will be flabagasted. Personally I was shocked to find out he has a better work rate and covers more km than Sanchez. Kindly do your research. |

ORIJIN201: Just leave everybody to be saying rubbish. Put Messi in this current team and he will do nothing. Everyone is just looking for a scape goat to shift blame on. Before it was Guen, now it’s Ozil that doesn’t kick a ball. Pogba is a very good example. Even Fred and Matic were brought in to paper his cracks. I don’t know the useless modern day football we are talking about. When a good player is surrounded by clowns he won’t be effective. Look at shaqiri, would you believe he was in a relegated stoke team last year? Y’all keep saying rubbish to suit your anger. Exactly, most comments here are based on emotions. We lose and suddenly fans begin to pick on one player like cannibalistic chickens, forget his other contributions. Imagine someone calling Ozil old fashioned no 10? Lol. Whereas Ozil changed every impressions of the no 10 role during his first World Cup with vision and insightful passes. Just because he can't defend doesn't mean he is useless. What a good coach should do is build on his strengths and playdown his weaknesses. Exactly what Ole Gunner Solsjaer is doing with Pogba. Then if you don't have the patience for that, simply sell him rather than waste resources. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 6:09pm On Feb 05, 2019 |
pazienza: Which Ozil? The same Ozil that was ineffective and useless against Cardiff and had to be substituted? You guys should just stop insulting our intelligence with this constant excuses for Ozil. Initially it was said that Ozil needed top class strikers in front of him and not Giroud to shine. We have Auba and Laca, and Ozil is still toothless and feeble. Ozil is a cancer to Arsenal, that his 350k is burning deep into us, considering that Kroenke will not loan us any free money to invest.
Ozil should go. Arsenal don't need Ozil. Let me tell you. Ozil is probably the biggest star in our squad. We know his weaknesses and also his strengths just as every other player. What Roland17 was saying is that we cannot afford to keep a player of Ozil's quality out of the team like he is useless. Ozil is our best chance creator and assist agent. On his day he can make the difference. The job of the coach is to get the best out of him or simply let him go. |

Fkhalifa: only palace and Lyon won surprisingly there, everyone will taste his L at Etihad..
I've never liked Auba and laca starting together, both are CF and world class finishers, neither is good at creating chances, maybe laca a bit. One has to be dropped for a creative player on the wings or middle...
Torreira, kosc, mustafi, leno and monreal did well for me
Guendouzi’s confidence, movements, guts and skills reminds me of Barcelona’s legendary midfielders. They like to hog the ball like him, but also have the skills to protect it Others especially the defenders and attackers except iwobi are too afraid to lose the ball
Arsenal need more fearless and skillful players like him, kola, ozil,Ramsey, mhicky,Auba and many others rely on side safe passes and flicks to get us going forward.
Next game will determine if top4 is possible. Not that I expected us to win the match but I think Emery got it wrong. Was he aiming at winning or was he avoiding losing. For me it should have been the later first then try to win when the coast is clear. Starting Laca and Auba was a mistake. |

But honestly I don't see how losing to Man City is a big deal when you know Arsenal will still finish in the top four.
One error Emery made was starting Auba and Laca. But can't blame him, there's very little quality to tinker with in that squad. |

MrDojo: I agree with some parts of your point, but I totally disagree about the quality aspect.
Although long term partnerships can help a defense, if the players are shit, it will only make things worse. Even if we say they lack understanding because of injuries, the individual errors made my the defenders are shocking. Errors you will never expect from a Pro playing in a 'big' club.
If you watch teams like Burnley, Brighton, and Newcastle, you'll see how difficult it is to break them down. Unlike those teams, Arsenal's defense welcomes everybody. To the extent that if you do not score against Arsenal, your attackers have a big problem Quality wise, our back four are internationals- Bellerin, Mustafi, Socratis, Koscielny, Kolasinac. These guys are not the worst in the league. Under the right set up they can thrive. The problem I think is not the back four but the entire team structure. This problem began when Wenger started allowing players the freedom to do what they like. That is why you see someone strolling on the pitch while others work their socks off. So defensively our team needs to get it right which comes from both tactical and positional discipline. If we choose to attack from the sides, when the fullbacks push up the centre midfielders should have the discipline to sit back and cover up. God forbid if they are slow. If we choose to attack from the centre, then our fullbacks must stay and not push too high. If you study our defensive play Vs Chelsea you could see how a good structure earns you a win. So for me, it is not about quality only but also team structure and playing time. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 5:50am On Feb 03, 2019 |
MrDojo: Thank you!
Our defense is our biggest issue.
This current Arsenal is like Liverpool of a few seasons ago, when they had a superb attack (Suarez, Sterling, and Sturidge), what killed their title hopes that season? Their defense!
Before Liverpool got VVD and Ali, what f-ed them up? Defense!
Pep's first season, what exposed him? Defense!
Arsenal, our attack is one of the best in the league. Midfield is average, while our defensive record is in the relegation contenders zone.
I doubt we have kept 10 clean sheets in all comp this season.
How others can say defense is not our problem is truly shocking.
But I respect the fact that we all have individual opinions. Defense is our problem, not because we don't have the materials but because the aren't always available due to injuries. By always changing guards you limit the potency of your defense. Defending is more about the understanding between players than about their individual qualities. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 5:46am On Feb 03, 2019 |
BlueRayDick: This is so so untrue. Arsenal have decent attackers. Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil, will make the first team of some top teams(Maybe not all, but at least some ).They are delivering if you ask me.
Defence has proven to be Arsenal's problem. Just take a look at Liverpool sitting No.1 on the log with 61 points compared to Arsenal's 47 points. That's a whole 14 points gap. Would you believe Liverpool have only scored just 5 goals more than Arsenal?
We've scored 50 goals and conceded 33, while Liverpool has scored 55 and conceded mere 14 goals. And you say defense is not our problem.
As for the wish for more wingers, well that boarders on the style of play we choose to play. Arsenal in the recent past has been playing tru the middle which may have been the reason you don't see us buying wingers compared to teams like Liverpool and Man Utd. If Emery wants to play tru the wings he may invest more in that department , but if not he should concentrate on strengthening the defense and getting a replacement for Ramsey. This is a more tactical analysis. A clear picture of the clubs state. But it shows an imbalance. Having just centre players with no wingers leaves the team very predictable and narrow minded. It becomes difficult for the coach to tweak his formations with respect to opponents. I believe that is what Emery wants to change. He has shown tactical flexibility in willing to both play from the centre and also from the wings. |
