I hear a lot of people talking about hold up play. Of what use is a hold up play that yields nothing to our bottomline? If its not that Rohr is a loyal coach, do you think Ighalo would be going to the world cup? Why was Iheanacho dropped from Man City? It had to do with work rate and not for lack of goal scoring prowess.

While I am not siding with Iheanacho cos he also can be very weird in his decision making at times, but really, sleep and death are 2 different things. We need intent. Intent in this tournament is to score goals and score plenty.

If you think hold up play is not important, then why is Giroud at the WC and not Lacazette or Martial for France?

I don't do fancy words... He played the same position at Borussia Mönchengladbach beside Christoph Kramer in a double pivot (2 DMs) system.

First of all, in a double pivot there are no DM. Instead you have 2 Box to box CM. Wenger once used it when he had Vieira and Petit.

A lot of people mix up the b2b and the Dm. Both are different.

Yet for all I know about Xhaka, he is not a typical DM. He is a playmaker who controls the game from deep.

Common sense tells us that Xhaka is terrible at most skills associated with the DM position- the tackling, the energy, the pace, etc.

While his best skill is passing and shooting from range.

Nope. He's a Regista. Always plays alongside a b2b destroyer.
Emery is trying to correct that by getting Torreira. My only worry is we'll still lack someone who is able to drive forward with the ball in a midfield of Xhaka - Torreira - Ramsey. Unless Emery will make Torreira like Kante but from what I've seen he likes staying behind the ball like Xhaka.

Uzoho; omeruo,balogun, ekong; moses ndidi etebo iwobi ebuehi; iheanacho, ighalo. Iwobi plays behind the 2 strikers while etebo and ndidi take up the dmf. This should work against Iceland as long as they play like beast with all their hearts, who knows we might even trash them, the only disadvantage of this formation is that it is too dependent on the wingbacks so if they Bleep up, we are dead. While I like your set up. I think you underrate Mikel. When playee deeper, he is the best player Nigeria can have. Oh yes!

The mistake Rohr made was to push him upfront, which is hard for him due to hiw pace. Mikel plays better with the ball at his feet, shielding, ane creating spaces for other players to run into.

I love Etebo's athletism, but I will take Mikel because or his experience. Etebo can be a kind of insurance sub when we want to protect our lead.

Great formation. With Ighalo present lack of Mobility, I'd play him with Nacho instead. At least he's still better on the ball than Simy. Then again, we could play Iwobi with Simy and bring in Etebo. It all depends but this is the template for us to go.
Rohr doesn't have the balls to play Mikel deeper; I doubt he'd dare play Moses as a LWB.

Apart from the rating you gave Ighalo, i agree with everything else, was discussing this with the guys we watched the match together as soon as i saw the line up. This would have saved Iwobi from tiring out too early, the few times he came to this position, he had attempts at goal which got blocked.

Insisting on playing 4:2:3:1 would have worked much more better if he deployed the right legs on the right positions.

Etebo is not a winger. Shehu should not be on the starting line up.

Actually a peak Ighalo is much more mobile than Giroud. He takes players on and creates. I actually think he isn't that great as a lone striker. His best period with Watford was when he was paired with Deeney in a 4-4-2.

He is the best we have for a lone striker. Another player is Nwankwo. But I'd prefer a formation that allows Ighalo to pair with another big forward(like Nwankwo) in a 3-5-2 formation.

Use Moses as RWB, with Mikel dropping deeper. Unfortunately, Etebo's position would be sacrificed.

Ighalo has his strengths and pace is not one of them. A type of Giroud, Ighalo puts pressure on defenders using his superior strength and power.

Fans hardly see the importance of hold up play as coaches do. We love to see pace and dribbling, but there are other skills strikers can possess.

Ask why Giroud made the French squad against the likes of Martial and Lacazette.

When Xhaka is absent Elneny becomes the 4!
Okocha played as a 10 in a 4-4-2 formation, but was always deep in the midfield and pushed the attack from the depth!

Your understanding of football positions is obsolete brother.

Xhaka is not a DM. He is a playmaker for Arsenal. Wenger does not usually deploy a DM, which !explains why his team is so defensively exposed.

What superned is trying to explain is what most managers apply today.

Mikel would have easily bossed that midfield had he played deeper.

Iwobi is better off as a CAM that a winger as he tends to play with the ball close to feet.

A 3-5-2 formation without Shehu but with Iheanacho could have matched the Croatians better.
