every player is expected to defend in a game from front to back. I remember Loius van Gaal once played M. Fellaini and A. Herrera in offensive midfield together with Michael Carrick behind them. The play was quite good.
The same can be replicated with different players by Jose Mourinho, he can always pick players of divergent qualities for the job. For example Paul Pogba and Juan Mata in offensive midfield with Ander Herrera or Micheal Carrick or Morgan Schneiderlin behind.
The challenge is just finding the right blend and of course no midfielder is expected to be static, the modern tactic is press and attack together even if done at varying frequencies. With this system however, one of the offensive midfielders will need to defend and attack in equal measure. That will be Paul Pogba or Ander Herrera if he's played as one of the offensive mids.

We all know Man u and Chelsea have been struggling over the years but we can see how they are tryna come back to their best by buying quality players. Fine the players might not have clicked yet but they keep on taking the risk (to know how hungry they are 4 success). I know they'll come back to their best in few seasons to come (not that I support them tho.. Just tryna be factual). Imagine a team that has Giroud and Perez as top strikers and they wanna win the CL . They'll keep trolling Man u and Chelsea for their failure to qualify 4 the CL whereas they become littluns when they enter they enter the knock out stage of the CL . Anyhow sha.. You guys should know your place, Man U and Chelsea ain't ur mates in Europe at all.

You are right - na Mourihno dey see the players for training everyday & he should be in the best position to determine the best tactics for the team...

I only made the suggestion because I remember that he employed similar tactics during his successful stint at Porto - Costinha or Pedro Mendes at the base, Maniche/Alenichev at LCM & RCM respectively....with Deco on the tip (i can't remember Benni Mcarthy's partner upfront).

He also employed similar tactics at Chelsea (albeit occasionally) during his 1st tenure at Chelsea - Makelele at the base, Essien/Ballack at the wide edges and Lampard at the Tip.
