Aug 30, 2018 | SBCHROs (Southeast Based Coalition of Human Rights & Good Governance Organizations) (Onitsha Nigeria: 30th August 2018)-It is shocking and heartbreaking observing the unfolding social, political and economic events or activities in Igbo Land of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Delta (Igbo Delta) and Rivers (Igbo Rivers) as well as other Igbo speaking areas in Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Benue and Kogi States. The most saddening of it all is that these disturbing social happenings are compounded, worsened and escalated on daily basis by chronic leadership failure, selfish, pedestal and clannish politics of the public office holders especially governors and state and federal legislators in Igbo Land. Particularly saddening and shocking was the recent diversion or relocation, construction, expansion and commissioning (28thAugust 2018) of a gargantuan N90billion ($300M) Budweiser/Hero Beer Breweries in Shagamu, Ogun State, Yoruba Land or Southwest Nigeria. The Brewery; brewers of Hero and Budweiser Beers as well as Grand and Beta Malt, among over half a dozen other alcoholic and soft drinks, was originally attracted to Nigeria in the 90s by former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in his private capacity as an international investor-businessman. The Company, originally “Sabmiller Breweries” from South Africa, was recently purchased and taken over by AB InBev (Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV), a multinational drinks and brewery holdings company, based in Leuven, Belgium with global net value nof $115 billion. Obi followed it up when he became Anambra State Governor and succeeded in getting the Company to invest and situate is giant Plant in the Harbour Industrial Layout part of Onitsha and Ogbaru; where it procured and paid for a parcel of land belonging to the General Cotton Mills (GCM) and injected not less than N30billion or $100m (calculation based on official exchange rate) into the Onitsha Plant. The Plant at its commissioning instantly created 200 direct and over 2000 indirect jobs, mostly involving sons and daughters of Igbo Nation. Anambra State Government till date maintains 5% stake in the Company. Recent findings by Intersociety clearly show that the “Hero Beer” and its symbol was made to look as if it is uniquely designed for Igbo Nation and her heroic struggle to wriggle herself out of the age long persecution in the hands of other partners in the “Nigerian Project”. In subsequent informal field investigations carried out in some hotel bars and restaurants in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for instance, Intersociety found that patronage by members or citizens of the Yoruba Nation associated with “Hero Beer” and her sister products is acutely low; compared to that of citizens of Igbo Nation resident in Lagos State which is very high. It also means that “Hero Beer” is very unpopular among citizens of the Yoruba Nation because it is designed to look as if it is Igbo friendly, leading to its rightly or wrongly description by some Nigerians including both citizens of Yoruba (negatively) and Igbo (positively) Nations as “Ojukwu De Hero’s Beer”. On the other hand, the products of the Nigerian Breweries such as Heineken, Guilder and Star Beers and Amstel Malt and Maltina soft drinks, etc and the Nigerian Guinness products such as Stout, Harp and Malta Guinness, etc are found to have recorded high patronage among the citizens of the Yoruba Nation because they are not “Igbo or Ojukwu’s beers and soft drinks”. In many restaurants and hotel bars owned by citizens of Yoruba Nation in Lagos, “Hero Beer and associates” were scantly available whereas in those owned by Igbo citizens, reverse was the case. Where their availability is high in hotel bars and restaurants of Yoruba citizens’ ownership, it was found to be chiefly on account of large patronage by citizens of Igbo Nation and those of South-south and non Muslim Northern Nigeria. In other areas of the Yoruba Nation with scanty presence of resident Igbo citizens, patronage associated with “Hero Beer and associates” is acutely low. During the recently concluded World Cup tournament in Russia during which Hero Beer’s sister: “Budweiser was the global lead sponsor and beer drink”, most of the patronage in Nigeria was drawn from the same friendly and liberal population of Igbo and other non Yoruba stocks. In other checks carried out to ascertain the rate or percentage of patronage by citizens of the Igbo Nation concerning products of the Nigerian Breweries and those of the Nigerian Guinness (i.e. Harp, Star, Life, Guilder, Heineken and Stout Beers, etc and Maltina, Amstel and Malta Guinness, etc), the patronage was found unchanged with no sign of discrimination or tagging of same by Igbo citizens as “Yoruba Beers and soft drinks”. The above analysis is therefore presented here to unmask the age long politics of hatred and discrimination going on in Nigeria especially against the Igbo Nation and her citizens. It is consequent upon these unbecoming treatments against the Igbo Nation and her People that Intersociety had in 2016 identified “physical violence, structural violence and cultural violence” as three hydra headed monsters responsible for ordeal which the Igbo Nation and her People had steadily been facing in the country; with Igbo political leaders worsening the situation by either playing to the gallery or becoming complicit in same. It must be remembered that former Governor Peter Obi nearly died in a suspicious plane crash while shuttling in the air in the course of wrestling the strong forces from the Southwest who were bent at ensuring that the “Sabmiller” Breweries was never originally located in Igbo Land; an effort that just paid off in their favor. SBCHROs also has it on good authority that the Budweiser and Hero Breweries Company approached the present Governor of Anambra State twice for allocation and acquisition of a larger parcel of land to expand their facilities, but got cold response, forcing them to abandon their third scheduled meeting in frustration, leading to relocation to Shagamu in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. At the commissioning of the N90billion project on 28thAugust 2018 with full support and presence of the Governor of Ogun State and members of his cabinet, instant employment of 600 direct or skilled laborers and no fewer than 2000 unskilled or indirect laborers was announced. The employment rate is also expected to hit thousands and tens of thousands for the skilled and the unskilled involving sons and daughters of the Yoruba Nation in coming years; in addition to projected monthly tax payment of hundreds of millions of naira into the coffers of the Government of Ogun State. Social and economic consequences of loss of the gargantuan N90 billion Brewery investments to Yoruba Nation; on Igbo Nation and her People are innumerable. For instance, Anambra State and the entire Igbo Nation as the largest consumers of the Brewery’s products will now be pumping billions of naira into Ogun and Southwest or Yoruba economy; in the form of “let Okeke buys and drinks, but let Adekunle have the cash”. More shocking is the fact that the God given brewery located at the heart of the Igbo Nation is now taken more than 150kilometers farther away from the heart of Igbo Land; to the extent that the products of the Brewery will now be produced outside Igbo Land with Igbo money, loaded in containers and long trucks and paid for with Igbo money, procured their trucks with Igbo money, crisscrossed over 150 kilometers from Shagamu (Yoruba Land) to Onitsha (Igbo Land) with sundry security roadblock extortions and government revenue ticket purchases. The products will now, too, be trans-loaded and offloaded with Igbo money, warehoused with Igbo money and bought and consumed in Igbo Land with Igbo money. It is also most likely that the Company’s original facilities in Onitsha will soon be dismantled and relocated to Shagamu with its zinced structures retained skeletally as its “Onitsha satellite warehouse or depot”. Deep fears also abound over the likelihood of changing the name of “Hero Beer” with its perceived heroic Igbo symbol and replaced with a possible symbol of its new host geopolitical Zone or entity. It is therefore heartbreaking and condemnable for the affairs of the Igbo Nation to be left in the hands of “apostles of stomach infrastructure and casino bar disco dancers” parading themselves as “elected” and “appointed” public office holders in Igbo Land. It does not border them at all that perpetrators of physical violence, structural violence and cultural violence against the Igbo Nation and her People have sworn never to allow the Race to reap from fruit of their hard labor. Despite controlling over 60% of the country’s trade and investment, yet hash federal and regional policies have remained in place ensuring zero presence of functional international passenger and cargo airports, seaports and wharfs, railways, seaport bridges and roads as well as establishment of diplomatic missions anywhere in Igbo Land. Such age long hash policies are designed to make Igbo Nation and her People mere spectators in the Nigerian Economy with political leaders in Igbo Land chronically circling and recycling political frivolities, irrelevancies, shortsightedness, leprously and brigandage. Tell your mum, you were hypnotised by fraudsters you met on the way. You can even get her sympathy that you were almost used for rituals before you regained your senses. |
The topic about tithes and tithing has generated so much controversies of late, I am inspired to state my own side of the story. The Bible is the standard to we Christians, no man-made doctrine can counter the Bible. Any thought or teaching that is out of scripture, is out of relevance irrespective of who says it. For the sake of records, the church of Christ of which Jesus is the Head, is not under attack, what has come under attack is the Church of Men, which is what men have calved out of the church of Christ. Here are highlights of the reasons for the renewed onslaught. I. You taught them that they should tithe, as long as they tithe, their jobs and businesses are covered. A recession came, and they were believing that, “tithes” could save them, but it never did. Some of them lost their jobs, and can’t even run to the “altar” where they “cast their seed” for a bag of rice. II. You taught them to buy your “anointing oil”, water, stickers, ribbons, that no illness can near their dwelling place. But they lose loved ones with your stickers on their car, your anointing oil in the house. III. You taught them if they submit to you, the auction to perform all wonders would flow to them, they submit to you more than they submit to the Holy Spirit and you were happy. But their marriage still crashed, recession came and affected them, they lost elections and you want them to be happy? If I should name them, they are many. These are part of the reasons for what appear as “onslaught” on the Church. 3. MY VIEWS ON TITHING. No material thing, can take the place or be compared with the precious Blood of Jesus, including tithes. You would go to heaven even without your tithes. The Church of Men are the ones panicking, the Church of Christ is marching on. We have not preached the love of Christ enough, “prosperity” has taken over the place of Jesus – the focal point of Christianity. Prosperity is a byproduct of what Christ has done for us. What is happening today is the failure of doctrine of prosperity extremism. Doctrines would come and go, but the Word and Church of Christ would stand till He returns. If we recognize Jesus and His Love, we won’t be giving and grumbling. The tithe thing has been bastardized and what we are seeing as “onslaughts” today are products of men’s doctrinal failures. Tithing is a function of Honour, and not a perquisite for being saved as tithes merchants would want you to believe. No man should force you to pay tithes, no man if whatever title should manipulate you to pay tithes on his altar. It is ideal to Honour God on the same altar you are constantly nourished spiritually. In the new testament (2 Corinthians 2:9) “who sow sparingly would reap sparingly, he who sow generously would reap generously”. This is a new testament teaching, God can never give you what you are not scripturally qualified for. You give, you get higher measures, it is in the scripture. You don’t give, you are still saved, but may not access that higher measure. Although, some school of thoughts believe that tithe is an old testament law, of which Jesus has come to abolish, of which I subscribe in, giving to the work of Jesus is a necessity for every Christian. If you love Jesus, you would give to his work, a true test of love is giving. Just give it as you are led. If tithes makes one rich, how come we have multi billionaires today who don’t believe in it? The Church of Christ is never attacked, She has survived attacks for 2000 years and still marching on. It is the Church of men that is under attack, and some men are “trying to protect the church”. 4. THE MANDATE. If the way the men of the Church of Men are taking this tithe thing seriously, they had taken the Great Commission Jesus mandated the Church, the Church would have evangelized the north and breaking into Niger Republic by now. The church in Nigeria has lost touch with the Great Commission, Jesus didn’t say go ye into the world and COLLECT TITHES, but ‘go ye into the world (unreached people) and preach the gospel”. The Church of Christ is not a remittance centre where taxes are collected on heaven’s behalf. The souls of men in the world should be our hunger as Christians, how do we get men to confess the Lordship of Christ, how do we spread the love of Christ to humanity? These should be our core mandate. Jesus would not reward you on how big and beautiful your church buildings are. He would reward you on how sincere you were with the GREAT COMMISSION with regards to the resources he brought at your disposal. Don’t fight for the Church of Christ, you can’t fight for the One that keeps you alive. But the Church of Men would need men to fight for them. They need men to defend them. THE CHURCH OF MEN IS WHAT IS UNDER ATTACK AND NOT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST. …Enenche Enenche Abuja, Nigeria http://dailypost.ng/2017/11/28/enenche-enenche-tithes-church-christ-vs-church-men/amp/ |
I remember fighting one girl at my primary school, Amaka. She has muscles in her hands and legs with a lot of hair. I am sure her muscle must have been as a result of years of pounding Akpu, even right from her mother's womb. She beat me silly that I was almost knocked unconscious. When I got home, my mother said, why would you fight with omo Igbo, don't you know "Isan won yi gidi gan ni" Afterwards, if I see her coming towards me, I will pick race like Usian Bolt to the other direction. The irony of it is that we are still friends even till now. |
Give me Biafra, or death", the Zoo must fall" the chants of millions of IPOB youths in south east, Nigeria. The agitation is getting louder, not just from south east but from other sections of the country bar the core north. ‘Change’ is no longer the catch word; ‘restructuring’ is now the magic word and has even become a campign slogan for some expired politicians. In my opinion, Nigeria is not and has never been a country. The joining together of ethnic groups with contrasting religious nd cultural background by Lord Lugard was one of the greatest crime against humanity. Since we have no say in our past, we should have a say in our future. Going through the history books, my regrets have always been the failure to include secession clause in our independence constitution of 1960, the failure of the Aburi accord and the devastating civil war. I am a Yoruba man first before a Nigerian or Christian. I believe the Yorubas should be doing better than this in present Nigeria, same for the Igbos, Hausas and other etthnic groups. What we have is a nation that is barely functioning and on a brink of failure. If the Igbo feel they are not getting what they deserve in the country, they have the right to seek out of the union. Same for the Yorubas or the Ijaws and others. A woman cannot be forced to remain in a loveless and abusive marriage. I have heard Nnamdi Kanu calling for referendum from the zoo. This has been picked up by his supporters who have bombarded the social media space with the word. I admire his courage to fight for the emancipation of his people. However based on my little knowlegde, secession from a country can only be achieved by war or referendum. Freedom is not free or given but taken. For him to achieve his aim of an independent country from Nigeria, he must choose one of the above options. War is not a palatable option. It leaves death and destruction in its wake. I have heard some of my Igbo friends saying they are ready for war. How they will use drones, fighter jets, missiles and armoured tanks to defeat the Nigeria army. Some even believed Kanu has gotten nuclear weapons from Vladmir Putin and the Israeli Jews to annihalate the Nigeria zoo. I admire their sense of humour, but if they are serious, then they should learn about the Syrian war. War is not a video game that you can press replay when your character is dead. Yoruba proverb will say "Omode o mo ogun, o n pe l'efo". A child mistake a charm for vegetable. Whenever I point to them the folly of war, they call me the usual banter "Coward Yorubas". However if they want to pass through this route, goodluck to them. Eritea became independent from Ethiopia through the 1991 Eritean war of independence. South Sudan became independent from Sudan after the first and second Sudaneese civil war that claimed million of lives. Yugoslavia broke into five to six countries after the war of 1992. East Timor from Indonesia in 2002, after the guerrilla warfare that lasted for 27 years. What happened is that the superpowers (USA, Russia, China, UK, and France) will allow the war to go on, supporting & arming different sides and after thousands or million of lives have been lost, will now engineer a UN sponsored referendum to break the country. But their defense indusrty will have made billion of dollars from selling arms to all parties. They will now sit at 405 East 42nd Street New York (UN Hdqtrs) to issue statement "that due to humanitarian crises, we are moved to intervene". Are we ready to lose millions of our people again? The second option to secession is through referendum for self determination. This is a peaceful means but tough to achieve. I have heard so many IPOB members say the right to self determination is enshrined in the UN charter which Nigeria is a signatory and as such Nigeria government has no choice. UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. It contains several articles that are in favour of the Indigenous People and their rights. But in Article 46, that same declaration includes a caveat: (Article 46 - | United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples | 1. Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, people, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act contrary to the Charter of the United Nations or construed as authorizing or encouraging any action which would dismember or impair, totally or in part, the territorial integrity or political unity of sovereign and independent States. (http://www.un.org/esa/ socdev/unpfii/documents/DRIPS_en.pdf) While the UN charter gave that right, yet the same charter includes a caveat against dismember of a sovereign and independent country. The drafter of the charter do not want a situation where any ethnic group can just wake up and demand for independence thereby leading to proliferation of small countries all over the world. This right can only be exercised if it has been stated in the country's constitution. I have heard examples of Scotland referendum to leave UK and people wondered why it is hard in Nigeria. The United Kingdom is a confederation and the Acts of Union of 1707 allows for the separation of the countries through referendum. Another example is the Spanish example where the Catalonia are seeking independence from spain. Spanish constitution of 1978 does not allow for secession that is why any Catalonia referendum has always been non-binding and opposed by the Spanish central government. Even the one to be held on October 1st 2017 will be non binding. The Basque region of Spain on the other hand does not have patience for non-binding referendum. They have been waging a war of independence by the ETA from 1959 till a ceasefire last year. So we have two classical examples in Spain, a Catalonia region who wanted peaceful secession through referendum or a Basque region who wanted secession through war. I understand the frustration that might come with referendum as no ruling political elite in Nigeria will allow it as it will means losing their economic and political power through which they loot Nigeria dry. Even if any Senator from the South East sponsors a constitution amendment to insert referendum, and supported by all southern Senators including the backstabbing and betrayer Yoruba Senators (as some Igbo refer to the Yorubas), it will be defeated by the Northern Senators who have the numbers in the NASS. The question is therefore how long the restless youths will have patience. If they can't achieve things through a peaceful means might resort to violence and therefore precipitate another civil war of destruction. It might get to a point where extremist ultras in IPOB might take matters in their own hands and attack Federal troops or police thereby leading to a low scale guerrilla war or a full blown war. No one profit from war except the manufacturers of arms. The government should know that the agitations will never stop or be defeated. The voice of the people cannot be silenced. In my personal opinion, the country should be restructured along regional lines. A south west region comprises Yoruba states as well as parts of Kwara and Kogi, A South Eastern region comprises Igbo states and Igbo speaking parts in South South. A South South region for southern ethnic minorities. A middle belt region for northern ethnic minorities. A north west and north east regions for the core north. A referendum clause for secession should be inserted in the new constitution to be carried out 10 years after the restructuring. After that period of 10 years any region can decide to opt out of the union or two regions can combine to form a new country. During this period, people who want to relocate back to their region can do so. An igbo man can start thinking of home by moving his base of operation back to the east while still maintaining his access to the greater Nigeria market of 200 million people. The regions can develop their own natural resources and assets such as seaports and airports during this period. Even if we want to go our separate ways the divorce won't be messy. The case of abandoned properties won't arise. You have ten years to liquidate your assets and move back to your region. We can use this period of 10 years to reflect if we still want to stay together in one Nigeria that has fairness, equity and justice. Or we take our destinies into our own hands. God bless every Ethnic Nationalities in Nigeria. God bless us all * This write up is my personal opinion. I am not forcing it on anyone. I am open to correction and suggestions from like minds. |
On the issue of the man arrested by the Police for naming his dog Buhari in Ogun State after a complain by a Nigerien(Foreigner). The man has every right to name his dog whatsoever name he likes. The Complainant has every right to be angry that a dog was named after his father. The accused has every right to paint the body of his dog with the name he gave it. The complainant has every right to approach the accused and voice his anger at such action and ask him to desist. And his kinsmen have every right to join him in solidarity by being angry at the accused. The complainant and his kinsmen have no right to plan or contemplate to attack the accused/or cause ethnic crisis if he fails to desist from him action. The complainant has every right to report to the police the action of the accused rather than take laws into his hands. The police do not have any right to arrest the accused like a common criminal. Rather, they ought to invite both parties to hear their submission. After investigation, and it was discovered the accused only has a malicious intent to slander or poke fun at the complainant but not an intent to breach public peace, they can advise the complainant to go to a civil court for redress if reconciliation fails. (Goodluck with him proving a slander case when even the Judge probably has a dog named Obama or Bush). If it is discovered that the accused has an intent to breach public peace (which is vague and hard to prove as the accused can deny such intent), then the police ought to charge him to court within 24hrs rather than detain him with criminals for more than a week at State Hqtrs Eleweran. Or the police should have simply act as a mediator and reconcile both parties rather than victimize one party. This case is a real test for our laws of Freedom of Speech and Freedom after Speech. Why are we even thinking the police would have done better, when we know their antecedents. Under-trained, underfunded, underequipped, undermanned, understaffed, underintelligent and undertakers. |
tocutie:The justice system in Nigeria 'll not get u the desired justice. At worst he 'll be charged to court and then granted bail. The case 'll be stalled for years and the trauma u and your boy 'll face will be prolonged. I once had a similar case with my second cousin once removed daughter who was raped by a 35 years old man and the police was stalling the case after collecting money from the guys family. What we did was to get the guy's picture and created a poster with us labelling him a rapist and child molester. We made 500 copies and pasted it all over the neighborhood, his church, Redemption camp, his place of work, State secretariat Alausa, local government secretariat, police stations and even at his village in Ogun state. We made sure we destroy every credibility he has. He had to pack out of the area. He was sacked at work and suspended from his church. Even he can't show face at his village again. If Nigeria has a child offenders register like in America, then his life is finished. But here rapist are let off the hook with just a slap on the wrist and the cycle continues all over. |
21st June, 2016 The Marketing Manager, EKEDC Plc, Ijesha Undertaking Office, Ijesha, Surulere, Lagos. Dear Sir, Resolution on Outrageous Electricity Billing and Epilepic Power Supply to residents of IJesha We the residents of Ijesha will like to inform you on the resolution reached at our meeting on 18th June 2016 on the epileptic electricity supply and the bill for the month of May. We were utterly surprised that your staff could distribute bills for the month of May when the total electricity that we had for the month was just for 16 hours. This is less than a day electricity for the whole month. You can confirm from your supply sub-station at Cele. You are aware that we came to complain to you when there was a fault that put us in darkness for 13 days which your staff feign ignorance of, before your engineers were forced to repair it. Even if the maximum Average Daily Consumption (ADC) was 8KWH (which is still on the high side), then for just 16 hours of electricity in the month, a consumer shouldn't have used more than 5KWH ADC. Therefore the maximum amount you should have billed R2 consumers should have been N120 at N24 per KWH and N140 per KWH for C1 consumers. Yet we are seeing bills of N5000-N12,000 for residents for just 16 hours in a month electricity supply. Are we paying for sunlight or darkness. Your staff distributed bills on Friday 10th of June and since then power supply has been for just 3hrs 50Minutes for 12 days. (Friday 10th: 0905-1048HRS, 1144-1203HRS, Sat 11th-Mon 13th: NIL, Tue 14th: 1208-1453HRS, Tue 14th:1453HRS-Mon 19th: 0034HRS NIL, Mon 19th: 0034HRS-0035HRS, 0054HRS-0057HRS, Mon 19th: 0057- Till present: NIL). And yet at the end of the month, you will bring crazy and outrageous bills and expect your magas and muguns to pay. We are no longer your ATM machine. You expect to get your Salaries from the sweat of people you are fradulently cheating and think you will do something good with the money. By the time you start running into financial and spiritual troubles, then you will know that Karma is a bitch. It is also a known fact that power generation in Nigeria for the past two months has rarely exceeded 1,600MW and even dropped to 0MW many times. Even with the exponential drop in power supply, your organisation still brought outrageous bills to us. In the light of these facts, the residents have resolved not to pay any electricity bill again since it has not serve any purpose to us. You are advised not to distribute electricity bills to any house. Kindly warn your staff not to come to any of our streets for disconnection until your services and electricity supply improve or pre-paid meters installed. Your faithfully Ijesha Residents Association, Surulere |
jejemanito:Yes, you are right. They can only distribute what is generated to them but they can't charge more than the amount due on the transmitted power to them. Assuming they are supplied 150MW for 10 hrs per day, The energy used is 1500MH or 1, 500, 000KWH per day. In a month is 45, 000, 000KWH. A KWH cost N24 per KW so total money they should generate is N1, 080, 000, 000 monthly. Let say 200, 000 houses in Benin city alone and they're given N5, 000 monthly estimated bills, then BEDC 'll have made N1, 000, 000, 000. Then consider other areas in Edo like Auchi, Uromi, akoko Edo etc.. And then Ondo and Ekiti states and part of Delta that are also under BEDC. So you can see that the DISCOS are ripping off consumers with estimated bills. They can make up to 100 times what they ought to make by supplying darkness. That's why they're not concerned about any systems collapse. Let them tell us the total amount of bills they sent out this month to consumers under BEDC and we can compare to amount of light supplied by TCN (this can be obtained on their website or Office ). then we can know who is being sincere or not. |
ALTERNATEID:Don't mind the fools. Let Fayose confiscate all their buses and danfos for five months and we 'll see if they ll not die within 3weeks. |
On the issue of PHCN, Power Supply and Estimated Billing: I had a very interesting discussion with a senior Manager of one of the Distribution Companies (DISCOs) in Lagos on the issue of pre-paid meters. We are very close and so he was honest with me. He said that if all the DISCOs had given pre-paid meters to all their customers, they would have experienced financial collapse in the past 5 months of the year based on the power crises Nigeria has been facing. He said that in the past five months, his DISCO has been receiving an average of 10-12hours supply of 200MW per day from TCN. Now let's do some calculations. To get the energy supply, multiply 200 by 10hrs you get 2000MWH per month. Convert to KWH by multiplying it with 1000, you get 2,000,000KWH. The cost per KWH is between N24 to N28 depending on whether you are residential or commercial. The money his disco will be generating per month assuming everyone has pre-paid meter and based on power generated and supply to them should be between N50,000,000 to N60,000,000(fifty to sixty million naira) . This money according to him is not even enough to pay salaries, office cost, running vehicle and at the same time maintain all their power equipments. However he told me they are making so much than that by giving people estimated bills. Though he won't disclose what they make monthly. But he gave me an analogy of what they make. He said Aguda and Ijesha both in Surulere have about 20,000 Customers. They only need to send N5000 monthly estimated billing to them and they have N100,000,000(one hundred million naira). Whereas they would have only made N50,000,000(fifty million naira) from all their consumers in the whole DISCO if they all have pre-paid meters. That's just two areas in Eko DISCO. Now imagine other areas under their jurisdiction, Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Lekki Ajah, Apapa, Mushin, Surulere, Yaba, Bariga, Fadeyi, victoria Island, Ijora, Shomolu,Epe, Masha, Ojuelegba, Orile, Ajegunle and others who are also being given estimated billings. No wonder they are not bothered whether the Avengers bomb pipelines or there are no power supply. The Magas or Muguns will always pay at the end of the month. It was then I truly understand why the DISCOs are so reluctant to give their consumers pre-paid meters. This is a daylight (or should I say day-darkness) robbery. I would really be surprised if the Minister of Power does not know about this. Maybe they are tactically protecting the DISCOs from collapse by allowing them to defraud Nigerians with the continuous support for estimated bills. If the government is really sincere, then DISCOs must be compelled to give Nigerians pre-paid meters within six months or their license revoked. We should only pay for what we use. Maybe by the time we are all metered, PHCN staff will be the one guarding pipelines as they know that no light, no salary. Nigerians must all rise and demand for pre-paid meter, until then, they will be justified if they stop paying any electricity bills. |
mikolo80:building power plant near gas supply 'll not eliminate the problem. You 'll still need to build transmission lines to evacuate the power generated. what stops them from blowing transmission lines when there are no gas pipelines to blow again. The solution is to have an energy mix that do not totally rely on gas. |
"If you get a crazy bill, you must pay what you think you consumed." How do I know what I think I consume. is my head a meter that measures electricity. Instead of him to mandate the DISCOs to provide meters within a timeline with a threat of revocation of license. |
The recent drop of power generated to 1400MW due to shortage of gas as a result of pipeline vandalism and destruction in Niger Delta region is a source of concern. My advice to the government is to stop building any gas fired plants again. Our reliance on gas fired plants which constitute 75% of our installed capacity is a threat to National security. Even in the event of war with a neighboring or foreign country, our industrial capacity to prosecute a war can be threatened within days of outbreak of hostilities. The Niger Delta Militant has shown them the way of crippling our war output. We should plan our future power generation as if Nigeria does not have any gas reserves. Agreed that we have gas in abundance having the seventh largest reserves in the world and it is a cheaper source of power generation. However we cannot continue to delude ourselves that pipelines that runs primarily through the Niger Delta will always be secured. Someone is bound to rise up in the future, whether Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man or Megatron and destroy gas pipeline all in the name of "it is our oyel". While some of their agitation are legitimate, the country cannot be held ransom anytime some militants are in need of money. We will only be deceiving ourselves that the Military can effectively protect pipelines that runs hundred of kilometers in the most difficult terrains and creeks. Even if we employ drone, technology and other aerial surveillance, "the bomber will always get through" (Stanley Baldwin, 1932). The government should explore various mix of power generation. The United States generates 40% of its power from coal and gas only makes 7%. Our focus should be on renewable energy sources such as Solar and wind which can be located close to the area of consumption. The hydro electric power generation has been around for more than 100 years and has always served it purpose. The government should expedite work on the Mambilla Hydro power project which will add 3000MW to the national grid. The Ikere gorge dam and Oyan dam both on the Ogun river have the potential to generate a combined power of 3000MW. There are other rivers that can also support hydro power potential. The Government should build coal fired plants. There is abundance of coal in the South East of the country. Coals can be transported by railway to any part of the country. That is why an effective rail network is needed to connect all major cities in the country. The government should unbundled the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and allow states, local government and even private bodies to transmit electricity. A state can decide to build a coal fired plant and transmit directly to its citizens rather than first sending to the National grid and geting next to nothing. The same goes for housing estates and industrial clusters who can generate and transmit their own power and sell the excess power to neighboring clusters or towns. On the issue of Metering, the FG through the NERC must stop the exploitation of consumers by the fraudulent DISCOs. If not that it will hurt investors confidence, I would have suggested their licenses be revoked. They lack the technical and financial competences to run electricity distribution. The DISCOs were sold to friends and cronies who knew next to nothing about power generation. Raji Fashola goofed by allowing them to increase tariff without appropriate metering. What he should have done is to give the DISCOs six months to meter consumers. After six months, un- metered consumers should not pay more than N2000 irrespective of energy consumed. If they are not metered after another six months, then they should not pay any bill till they are metered. A DISCO that can achieve 80% consumer metering can then be allowed to increase its tariff. I bet you, the DISCOs will rush and start installing meters. But now that the electricity tariff has been increased, they have no incentive or motivation to meter consumers again. The Credit Advance Payment Metering initiative (CAPMI) is a fraud. Thank God BRF has realised that and ordered its cancellation. The DISCOs should enter into a financial agreement with meter producing companies to produce and install meters based on an interest rate. They companies supply the meters and get paid later in installments as the DISCOs collects payment from their consumers. That way they can be relieve of a financial burden and ensure that all consumers are metered within a period of 12 months. We are at a crossroad, the sooner the government realise that actions and tough decisions must be taken, the better. But if they continue down the same path as previous administration, then they will know that power generation is indeed rocket science. |

It is your ass that will be sued if you keep defaming others reputation. Either you go and make a formal complain nd they give your hungry mouth extra moi-moi or you shut up. |
Dudeweedlmao:How I wish the Saudis can fire a short range missile at Tehran and the Iranians respond with a Farh Missile at Medina. Then the GCC attack Iran and Iraq fire scud missiles at Doha, Dubai and Al Kuwati. And watch how oil prices will shoot up to $200 and we can have enough reserve for currency swap |

I am all for increase in the minimum wage to N50,000. However the state and federal government must reduce the workforce by 60% while employing more teachers and police officers. The disengaged workers should be absorbed by the private sector. A look at the ministries shows 10 people doing the same job and at times sitting idle. The total wage bill for this ten people should be distributed to just 3 of them who are well motivated to work and the remaining 7 should go to d private sector and add value there. Take for example a state of 5million people with a civil servant wage bill of 2billion naira and combine federal allocation & IGR of 4.5billion. There are 30,000 workers who are taking 45% of the total money accruing to the state while the remaining 4.97million citizens only have value for 55%, provided the politician didn't steal that also. We can see that the rest of us who are not civil servants are unfairly cheated by those who does not even add value to the state. My opinion therefore is to have a small smart result oriented and well paid civil service than an overbloated underpaid one who only wail all the time even though most are redundant. |
