Education › Are You The Accountant Who Is Confused About IFRS? by starryadmin(op): 3:13pm On Mar 19, 2020
Are you still confused about the IFRS and can’t seem to
figure why it is important for you as a chartered Accountant?

The in-depth knowledge of the International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) is
very important for every Accountant.

I know you doubt me

but

here are few questions I have for you:

Are you an Accountant?

Are you planning to seat for the IFRS (ACCA Certificate or Diploma) exams?

Do you analyze financial statements?

Do you give investment advice to clients?

Or manage investment portfolios for local or foreign client?

Do you dream of working for a multinational company? Or an International NGO?

Are you willing to add value to your company by implementing the
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)?

Do you work with an SME and you want it to go global?

Do you desire to give your Accounting career an endless possibility,
which means, you can compete with anyone at any time in any part of the world?

Do you think knowledge is power?

Did you answer ‘YES’ to at least two of these questions?

Then the indepth knowledge of the IFRS is important for you

It will make you a better Accountant and guide on how to make
your financial statements more transparent, more credible and
make your statements very consistent anywhere in the world.

It will give you a better judgment on investment plans and
Strategies, and also equip you on how to better manage
your clients’ investment portfolios

It will open your Accounting Career to a world of
endless possibilities. As an Accountant, you won’t be limited by
local experience when you are updated with the international standards

Interestingly, over 100 countries are currently adopting the IFRS
So get yourself updated and not outdated

P.S: Continuous learning is one of the keys to success in life. Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. ― Ronald E. Osborn

Education › 7 Tips For Passing Calculation Courses (part 2) by starryadmin(op): 11:12am On Mar 19, 2020
This is a continuation from my previous article, read it here……..

4. Understand your Doubts

Sometimes you can get stuck trying to solve part of a question and find it difficult to move on to the next stage. It’s common for many students to skip this question and continue on to the next.

You should avoid doing this and instead spend time trying to understand the process of solving the problem. Once you have grasped an understanding of the initial problem, you can use this as a stepping stone to progress to the remainder of the question.

Remember: calculation courses require time and patience to master.

It is a good idea to study with a friend who you can consult with and bounce ideas off when trying to solve complex problems.

5. Create a Distraction Free Study Environment

A proper study environment and a distraction free area could be the determining factor when solving complex equations or problems.
Some people belief studying with music can help create a relaxing atmosphere and stimulate the flow of information, you may want to try having suitable background music (just instrumental without the voice) to foster an environment of maximum concentration.

6. Create a Dictionary

Some CIS subjects have specific terminology with a lot of vocabulary.

I suggest you create Notes with all the concepts, terminology and definitions you need to know. You should include their meanings, some key points and even some sample answers so you can consult them at any time and recap.

7. Apply the calculations to Real World Problems
As much as possible, try to apply real-world problems when approaching calculations. Looking for a practical application can help change your perspective and assimilate ideas differently.

Budgeting, for example, can be used in everyday life to predict the outcome of spending and determine whether it’s going to be deficit or excess…

Oh and don’t forget that it’s also important to have confidence in yourself and face the exam knowing that you have prepared properly!

P.S: To crown it up, making use of Starry Gold Academy Video lectures will increase your visualization capacity and the ability to retain and recall what you have learnt.

Education › Four Study Strategies That Are Better Than Cramming by starryadmin(op): 10:48am On Mar 19, 2020
It’s never too late to adopt good study habits that will improve your CITN exam success
and relieve your exam anxiety.
This article is actually based on the questions I received in an article
I wrote about the danger of cramming, most CITN students want to know
how they can stop the habit of cramming.

These are four study strategies that are better than cramming

1. GET ORGANISED
A major reason for cramming is poor organization of time.
Even though you could be very busy that you seems not to have time for study,
That is not a valid excuse if you must pass this diet CITN exam.
You need to plan your day and write down what you need
to do for each day with time allocated to each task,
from work time to every other activity.

If you want to make good use of your time,
you’ve got to know what’s most important and then give it all you’ve got. -- Lee Iacocca
Being organized with your study time helps you to be organized in your thinking.

2. TAKE NOTES WHILE STUDYING
Taking notes is important. An active note-taking process is important
while studying to help you transfer new information from
short-term memory and then recall it more easily after it is stored
in the long-term memory.

This is because what you have noted is actually a version of your
understanding of what you have read, so it is very easy to remember it.
At the end of each chapter you have read, write a few bullet points that
summarize what you've read and make it personal by reading your summary at least twice.

You are responsible for your success or failure this diet……. While not choose SUCCESS NOW

I will stop here for now and continue part 2 in my next article.

P.S: Success requires deliberate action,
sometimes these action might not be convenient or comfortable.

I have what you need to help you plan how to finish the syllabus,
It is CITN 30 DAYS EXAM SUCCESS BLUEPRINT.

Education › Be One Step Ahead With CISA by starryadmin(op): 1:32pm On Mar 18, 2020
In this age of technological advancement,

there is a limit to how an auditor can effectively

audit IT personnels without CISA.

So if all companies want to go the technology way because

it increases productivity and profit,

then all auditor should be able to audit the technological way too.

So for me, I wanted to be able to:

 Evaluate risk management practices

 Evaluate the value of the IT control framework

.
 Evaluate IT policies, standards, processes and procedures within the organization.

 Manage and monitor IT personnel.

In order words, I not only wanted to be an auditor but I wanted to be an IT auditor.

After I became a member of ISACA,

there was an opening at the organization where I worked,

the chief auditor resigned.

So the directors decided to do an in-house recruitment instead of outsourcing since

they knew some of us where chartered.

At the interview, I presented to the board how

I was going to establish audit controls within the organization

I also pointed out to them some leakages and

the sources of those leakages,

I presented some technology controls which

I suggested were to be adopted in the IT department of our organization

in order to curtail some of the excesses.

By the time I finished the presentation,

they told me right there that I had the job even though

they interviewed the others.

That was how I became the Chief auditor of my company

which more than tripled my income.

I am Abolore Abifarin, I belong to ISACA and

thanks to Starry Gold Academy, they made CISA very easy for me.

P.S: Be unique, be peculiar, be one step ahead of others.

The fact is, exams are usually not fun, unless you’re a GURU.

Exam day can be full of unpredictable emotions, but you can decide which emotion to express

Just be HAPPY for no reason.

Wondering why you should be happy for no reason?

According to researcher by Lyubomirsky et al in 2005, there is a link between positive emotion and success - success not only brings happiness but a person who is happy has a higher chance of achieving success than somebody experiencing negative emotion.

No matter what happened on ICAN exam day, DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY.

Education › Danger Of Cramming For CITN Exams by starryadmin(op): 11:48am On Mar 18, 2020
Cramming for exams like CITN exams won’t help you learn deeply.
You will have forgotten most of what you crammed within a week.
Research shows we overestimate our ability to remember information and
underestimate the importance of actively studying.
We underestimate our need to learn and relearn information to be
able to recall it when we need it.

As an article put it, cramming is like jam-packing your brain,
Hurriedly jam-packing your brain is similar to speed-packing a cheap suitcase,
it holds its new load for a while, then most everything falls out.
If you’re feeling anxious, it might be better to put the books down and
not attempt to cram. Cramming can clog working memory and that can
result in ‘brain overload’, making you feel overwhelmed.
Information is more likely to be retained by your brain if you put it in
there slowly over time.

Cramming is not the best to pass CITN exam, though it’s often hard to break this bad habit.
Take some time to think about what it is that you find unpleasant about studying.
Think about what you could do to motivate you to study.
Finally, adopt effective learning strategies.
Create explanations for what you learn, rather than just passively absorbing them.

We have developed an effective learning strategy that guarantee your success for CITN exams,
It is called 30 Days CITN Exam Success Blueprint,

Education › 7 Tips For Passing Calculation Courses (part 1) by starryadmin(op): 12:58pm On Mar 17, 2020
1. Practice, Practice & More Practice

It is impossible to study calculation subjects properly by just reading and listening. To study calculation courses, you have to roll up your sleeves and actually solve some problems.

The more you practice answering the calculation problems, the better.

Each problem has its own characteristics and it’s important to have solved it in numerous ways before tackling the exam.

There is no escaping this reality, to do well in a calculation exam,
you need to have solved a LOT of problems beforehand.

2. Review Errors

When you’re practicing with the problems (questions), it’s important to –

Work Through the Process for each Solution.

If you have made any mistakes, you should review them and understand where your problem-solving skills let you down.

Understanding how you approached the problem and where you went wrong is a great way of becoming stronger and avoiding the same mistakes in the future.

3. Master the Key Concepts

Do not try to memorize the processes.

This is counter-productive. It is much better and rewarding in the long-run to focus on understanding
the process and logic that is involved. This will help you understand how you should approach such problems in the future.

Remember that calculation subject is SEQUENTIAL, so it’s important to have a firm understanding of the key concepts that forms the basis for a topic before moving on to work on a more complex solutions which are based on understanding the basics.

So here is where I put down my pen. Please look forward to my next article as I give you more tips on soving calculation courses

Education › Kick Start Your Accounting Career With ATSWA by starryadmin(op): 2:56pm On Mar 16, 2020
This information could be the

Mastery in any career is better
achieved if we start early stage in life,
ICAN exam is no exception to this rule,
the FOUNDATION of being a Chartered Accountant.
is better and quicker to achieve with ATS as foundation.

Few years ago Olajuwon Ezekiel,
21 years old, graduated with a Cumulative
Grade Point Average of 4.88
from the Landmark University
Omu Aran Kwara State and same year
became a certified member of both

Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN)
and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Thus, Ezekiel, a graduate of Accounting and Finance
emerged the university’s valedictorian at
the 2017 convocation.
Olajuwon who hails from Osun State
explains his road to academic success.

He said when he was in secondary school,
he found it difficult to choose between
Commercial Class and Sciences.
According to him, while his father
preferred sciences because
of his desire for him to become a medical doctor,
Ezekiel had interest in business line.
Though his father had flare for sciences,
Ezekiel disclosed that he never forced him to read
sciences, but encouraged him
to do commercial course.

Today, I’m grateful I did not regret that decision,’’ he said.

Stressing the extent to which Accounting
appeals to him, he noted that Accounting
is a course he loves , adding that Accounting is
seen as a language in business. He, pointed out
that in future, he hopes to acquire
knowledge in other areas relevant to business
such as Business Law.

Asked how he coped with combining
school and professional exams,
he said: ‘’It’s all about setting ones’ priority right!
For instance,
since my 100-Level I got engaged in
professional exams. I started from
Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa (ATS),
then to ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria)
and then ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

Really, it was demanding; but if you love what you do,
it is all about-
this is what I want to do and I must give my best to it.”

Education › Over Confidence, Could Lead To Failure: by starryadmin(op): 2:39pm On Mar 16, 2020
Last diet, one of my students had this issue- overconfidence.

Tobi last diet, finished the syllabus and
solved enough ICAN past questions
and was ready to attack ICAN from
anywhere ICAN chose to pick questions from.
He did not know that he could fail that course.

Tobi had four courses left in Skills level.
He prepared well for two courses and the
other two courses, he did not prepare well for it.

In the exam hall, after attempting the two papers
he did not prepare well for, he did a re-check
to see any aspect that had errors and corrected it.
But for the other courses, he was too sure,
So he felt reviewing the work was not necessary
because he was so certain of what he wrote.

See some disadvantage here:

1. Overconfidence makes you to rate your

competence too high and makes you enter

into situations that are beyond your controls.

At the end of the day, there will be a

disconnection between what you think you know

(perceived ability) and what you actually know (reality).

2. It will allow you to start having

some thoughts that are not reasonable

which eventually leads to failure.

3. Overconfidence will not allow you

to do proper findings on the area of your weakness.

4. It will make you to be intolerant,

you will be so full of yourself,

you won’t want to hear other’s opinions

When ICAN result was released,
Tobi with his confidence went to check his result.
Tobi was surprised at the outcome,
He passed the two courses he thought
he did not prepare well for.
And
failed the other two courses he thought
was a concluded matter. He felt disappointed,
and was curious about what happened.

My question to him was,
“Did you review your work before submitting?”

Sometimes, over-confidence will make you
not to review questions properly before giving solutions,
and you’ll end mixing things up-
giving the right answer to the wrong question
and this will lead to failure.

However, it is not an excuse for
lack of confident in yourself.
Believing in your self will come
when you are sure to have done your best
by solving past questions in the Member’s area,
covering the video lecture at least two times,
attending the telegram class and participated.

I trust you will put in your best
into this ICAN March diet exam and
make sure you understand the question
before giving solution…. YOU ARE THE BEST…

P.S: “When you get overconfident, that's when
something snaps up and bites you” ~Neil Armstrong
Education › Failure Is Always An Option And An Opportunity by starryadmin(op): 2:21pm On Mar 16, 2020
Put a smile on your face and say “I’ve come too far to give up”

When there is life, there is hope!!!

The story of Mr Eze is what inspired this article you are reading, see details below:

At the beginning of last two month (December), I reviewed all my goals for the new year and realized that even though I have not achieved as much as I stated in my last new year resolution, yet I’m grateful.

Out of the 7 goals I planned to achieve last year, I have only achieved 1 and I failed at the remaining 6.

Initially I so was discouraged, but I decided to look inward and learn from my mistakes. So, I listed all the things that I have failed at last year, reviewed what went wrong and mapped out the possible solutions.

I decided to work on my failures by trying to achieve one more goal and just in the space of one month (January) I was able to achieve the goal.

For the month of Feburary, I have decided to achieve one more goal.

You too can still pick yourself up, learn from your failure and move on, since the year is still fresh.

Go ahead and try something new…….. Your success might depend on this last push.

P.S: Go ahead and improve on yourself, try learning new skills, take calculated risk, start that course, write that exam, apply for that job, apply for that promotion.

Failure should be seen as a way to become more informed-leading to better decisions for the future.

Education › Give It All It Takes To Pass Your CITN Exams by starryadmin(op): 12:39pm On Mar 16, 2020
I know you are very busy with work, family and other things,
so you don’t really have much time to invest in your CITN exams preparation.
You are not alone, most CITN students are experiencing the same,
but one thing that will separate successful students from those that will fail is
giving CITN exams all it takes because anything worth doing, is worth doing well.

It’s not just about how desperate you are to pass CITN exams,
it’s about how hard you are willing to work for it out.

I remember when I was preparing for a professional exam,
I was not given exam leave at work.
I had to figure what to do so that I won’t fail because the exam was very expensive.

These were the sacrifices I made;
• I had to reduce my sleep time to 5 hours per day.

• I close early from work, I mean on the exact closing hour by 5pm.

• I studied 2 hours before bed time and 2 hours before going to work.

• I dedicated all Saturdays and Sundays for study, 8 hours per day.
Note that this sacrifice is just for a while, after the exam,
you can go back to your normal routine.

Education › How Do I Learn To Be Discipline In Preparing For My CIS Exams? by starryadmin(op): 3:20pm On Mar 12, 2020
Hello Friend

You checked your calendar or your phone for the date and
discovered that It’s just three months left to CIS Exams and then you said,

“OOOhhhh! time is too fast these days, abegi! I will start reading by tomorrow“.

Tomorrow comes again and you say to yourself again,

“Haaaa!!! I don’t know where the time is running to ooo, wooo!!! Let me just start by weekends.”

and this continues until exams are knocking on your front door.

It might seem funny but we are all guilty of that. You strategize
and make plans on how you will effectively study for
an exam but still you find yourself doing irrelevant things.

According to one of my students, Mercy, who
made plans on starting her exams preparations since a month ago
but still finds herself doing nothing about it as every day passes by,
she just keeps giving herself one excuses after another.

And now it’s just three months to the exams.

“My fear is that if I continue like this, I will end up not
preparing well for this exam due to my procrastinating attitude” Mercy said to me

I shared some tips with her so as to help her stay disciplined in
preparing for her exams. I would like to share
some of the tips with you as well;

First, you have to get rid of temptations because
Self-discipline becomes very easy when the things or
people that distract you are out of sight, out of reach.
Make sure before you start studying, your mobiles phones and
every other garget are switched off or completely out of site.
For some people that put their phones very close to them and
have active internet. Immediately they get a notification sound,
the urge to reply the message is always there. Therefore,
it is advised to put your mobile phones away when studying.
And try to get rid of every other temptation too.

Secondly, you have to stop the habit of perfect timing.
The truth be told, you do not need to wait for a perfect time to
start studying for your exams. Use the available time to
study for your exams; the available time is the perfect time.
Yes, we all want that time when we will be gingered;
when our body, spirit, and mind will be synchronized to study.
Most times, the so-called ‘perfect timing’ might
not show up. Probably until the exam is in a few weeks or
it might not even come due to unforeseen circumstances.
Therefore, the habit of perfect timing should be stopped
instead discipline yourself to read when there is available time. It pays more.

We are going to pause here for today, in my next article,
I will share with you the reason why it is important to
discipline yourself as you start preparing for your CIS exams and
give you other tips you need to achieve that.

P.S.With self–discipline most, anything is possible. Self–discipline is what separates the winners and the losers.

Education › CITN April 2020 Exams Count Down…… 40 Days To Go by starryadmin(op): 3:04pm On Mar 12, 2020
I hope you are not scared seeing this 40 days CITN exam countdown,
If you are, sorry it was never meant that way,
The countdown is just a reminder that the exam day is closer than you think.
According to Lisa Henry, time was meaningless,
except each moment was a countdown to the end.

Last diet, some students said that they failed because they did not study well and
that the exam date caught them unaware, even with the fact that know the exam date.

To avoid such issue, this countdown is a reminder for you.
If you must pass this diet, then, you should have intensify your preparation by now.
Success doesn't just suddenly occur one day. For that matter,
neither does failure. Each is a process.
Every day of your life is merely preparation for the next-- John C. Maxwell,

You might say there is still time to prepare
Yes, you are right,

But you need to understand that, you were born to win,
but to be the winner you were born to be,you have to plan to win and
prepare to win. Then and only then can you expect to win.--Zig Ziglar,

And also that,
Champions do not become champions when they win the event,
but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it.
The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their
championship character. --T. Alan Armstrong

Education › How To Deal With Your Difficult Boss (part 2) by starryadmin(op): 4:19pm On Mar 11, 2020
This is a continuation from part 1, see details here

A quick recap from the previous article,
The STEP 1 on HOW DEAL WITH YOUR DIFFICULT BOSS is to BE PRODUCTIVE.
So let’s move to the next step,

STEP 2: PAY ATTENTION-
Whenever he has something on you, always pay attention to him. I’m not saying that you should listen to every word he says to bring you down, listen to his complains.

Pay attention to his intentions- is he a downright psycho or an impressionist or a perfectionist? Does he have a complex (inferiority or superiority)? Or is he being pressured by superiors and is also not organized? If you pay close attention, you’ll be able to decipher.

At first, my boss ‘Adolf Hitler’ would yell and yell and I wouldn’t be able to make out any sense of what he said other than words that gets me depressed. But one day, he yelled ‘Do you ever even listen to me at all!’ and as usual, I stood there and then he yelled again ‘Are you deaf?’

I don’t why; I just woke up to the realization that I had never listened to the old man (my boss). He was not yelling because I wasn’t doing my job, he was yelling because I wasn’t doing his job. He wanted me to overlap duties and responsibility, and so if anything that was not supposed to be my official business went wrong, I had to bear the consequences. When I knew this- that he is a perfectionist, I braced up for the task.

This is how to pay attention; decide not to listen to the personal impact, (how he’s making you feel incompetent) listen to what he’s saying about professional matters. For instance, ‘You are so dumb, you don’t even know that when writing a report, you have to start from ….’

You don’t listen to the name he called you; you listen to what he said about your report writing. And don’t tell me it is not easy not to listen when someone is bringing you down, I have been there and I can tell you that it is easy especially when you make up your mind that you don’t want to quit.

Pay attention to when he is angry, why he is angry, what gets him angry, who gets him angry. Paying attention helps you to identify the source of his problems with you helps you to learn how to deal with it.

Education › Why You Should Evolve To An It Auditor With Cisa by starryadmin(op): 4:11pm On Mar 11, 2020
Sometimes your job responsibilities determines what you learn next, My old time Chartered Accountant friend Banjo, who is now a fellow was promoted at work and now one of his job responsibilities is to communicate with external auditors and to provide guidance to coworkers and management regarding accounting discrepancies, compliance vulnerabilities and internal controls.

Even though he is very proficient with other job responsibilities, he was confused why those two task were added.

So he decided to resign so that he won’t disgrace himself and not to disappoint his Boss who thought Banjo was always proficient in any new task he had been given in the past in.

Banjo told me about the issue so I advise him to talk to his Boss about it because that role is for an IT Auditor and that he should go for CISA training, he did exactly what I told him.

He is now CISA certified and became the first IT Auditor of the company, he participates in projects and assignments that improve internal processes and performances.

With his excellent analytical and communication skills, Banjo helped his company accurately document and present data in non-technical terms.

Overall, Banjo believes the CISA certification can benefit professionals because it is always being refreshed, reminding professionals that their skills must also keep up with its transforming landscape. He thinks earning the CISA certification is a great way to jump start efforts to help organizations identify technology risk and start a new auditing journey on the right foot.

P.S: Why wait for opportunity before you take action? Banjo is just fortunate, else he would have lost his job.

We yearn for opportunities, we pray for opportunities and we seek for opportunities. The good news is that we meet opportunities. The bad news is that we miss the opportunities just because we did not prepare ahead.

Education › Don’t Let Your Mind Be Troubled, ICAN Exam Will “come And Go” by starryadmin(op): 10:30am On Mar 11, 2020
I just can’t pay much attention to others things happening at home and in the office, even in church as I listen to the sermon, my mind was just fixed on ICAN exams.

It is not that I am actually scared, though sometimes I do feel scared and my heart rate will start breathing faster for split seconds.

I guess it is natural to feel scared sometimes. I just have to pass and become a Chartered Accountant this diet in order for me to be able to apply for promotion in the office, so 90% of what is on my mind now is ICAN exam and I am very optimistic that I will pass this diet.

You too can remain optimistic just like the story of one of our students. Don’t allow “little fear” to take away your courage. Just remain calm and be optimistic, this diet is your diet.

I’d love to get your response. Tell me how you feel about the coming examination and let’s learn from each other’s experience.

I’m waiting for your response…

Education › Why You Should Start Preparing For Your CIS Exams Now 2… by starryadmin(op): 1:02pm On Mar 10, 2020
Hello Friend,

In the first article, we talked about why it’s important to eliminated the convincing mentality of always thinking we still have enough time left for your preparations

And also share a story of one of our students who could not meet up preparing well for the last diet exams because not still having enough time to prepare syndrome.

Today, we will be talking about the resulting effect of not starting your CIS exams preparation on time…

Like I clearly stated in part one

We all know it’s important to start preparing but at the back of our mind we know we have days, weeks and months before sitting in the exam hall.

So the spirit of procrastinating will start setting in and our enthusiasm to fully start preparing for the exams to avoid last minute drama will then come to a halt,

We start telling and encouraging ourselves not to worry because we are in control of every arrangement and preparations for the exams when in reality we are not

As well as wasting what could be constructive study time, evidence suggests that procrastination is unhelpful for a number of reasons.

Research from a number of Universities backs up the idea that spacing your study over a longer period gives you better understanding of the subject matter and a better memory retaining capacity of what you have studied.

And much more importantly, free you from cramming and intense anxiety resulting from trying to meet up with the exams date

In most cases, cramming can lead you to believe you have studied the important thing well and will remember them in the exams hall,

But instead in the exams hall,we will start recognizing some fragrance of what we crammed here and there that we can’t constructively and reasonably put together again when the exams question appears in front of us.

And then the only thing that will be left of us will be regrets of why we could not start preparing for our exams early enough like the story of the lady in part one.

Rushing and struggling in the last minutes to prepare for your exams is less likely to help you remember the important information you will need to write your exams and be successful.

So by leaving your study until the last minute, you are likely to feel worse and perform below your real ability!
P.S. don’t leave your exams preparations to last minutes to avoid limiting your chances of success the next diet March 2020.

Education › What To Do When You Don’t Feel Like Studying? by starryadmin(op): 9:32am On Mar 10, 2020
We all have days where we don’t feel like studying,
we just keep postponing it and sometimes this feeling can last a whole
week without studying at all.

I can’t forget my experience back then in the university,
I felt the course was easy to pass, so I just keep postponing my study time,
Before I realized it was a week to exams. I now started marathon studying,
Unfortunately I had carry over (failed) in that course.

Most times, we normally do not feel like studying until there is
an immense pressure of deadlines.
By the time the deadline motivation kicks in, we realize that maybe it is too late.
Then, we start to panic, start studying hurriedly, skip the topics and
grasp nothing properly. Results are severely affected and there is no solid learning.
All the precious TIME and MONEY goes down the drain.

So, what must you do when you don’t feel like studying?

• Starting your study session with very easy or simple topic.
This will keep you motivated to continue to study,
you can later switch to the exact topics you want to study for the day.

• Take short breaks in between your study session to refresh the brain.
Do not immerse yourself in study for too long without break,
as it can lead to stress and discourage you from continuing to read.

• Add excitement or fun to your study time. You can buy your
Favorite snacks and drinks to refresh yourself while studying.
This will help your brain to link studying and excitement as almost the same thing.
Have you wondered why it’s so easy to watch just one more YouTube video,
or to scroll through your social media feed just one more time.
The reason is because studying over the years our subconscious mind has
linked studying to hard work and social media as fun.

• Get a study guide that shows you exactly what to study study and
how to finish the syllabus within a stipulated time.
You can request for the FREE CITN Exams Success Blueprint.

Remember that you paid heavily for this CITN exams,
why not force yourself to be motivated to study.
Just give this technique a try, there is no harm in trying.
It has worked for other students, I am 100% so sure that it will work for you too.

Education › How To Assimilate More While Studying For Your ATS Exams by starryadmin(op): 1:15pm On Mar 09, 2020
If you do not assimilate after
studying a material,you are not
different from that person who didn’t study at all.
But because you need to write ATS exam,
you might result to cramming which is
never the best way to assimilate.

You may say but that is how you have
been passing your exam.
Well, you may think cramming works for
you now but it has a devastating
effect, especially when you least expected.

I remember years back, after cramming
for an exam,
when I saw the way the questions were
‘twisted’in the exam hall, my brain just went blank.

So, let me show you the best way to assimilate more;

• SCAN THE MATERIAL FOR KEYWORDS BEFORE STUDYING

Before you begin to study, scan
the text for keywords.
Keywords are words thatappear in a text or
written materials frequently.
You can check ATS past question to
find keywords. Scanning for keywords would
help you understand thematerial when you
beginto read it properly.
In the case where youdon’t understand the
keywords based on the information provided in the text,
make use of the dictionary or the internet to check its meaning.

Understanding keywords help to better digest the
material and retain theinformation since you are familiar
with the essential words in the text.

For each of the ATS courses, list out the keys words
and get familiar with them all.
By the time you start studying intensively,
you will start coming across thesekeys words and
they will be automatically registered in your sub-consciousness.
You will notice how you can easily remember
those keywords when you start answering ATS past questions.

Don’t doubt this method of assimilation, why not give it a try today?

• TEACH YOURSELF BY READING THE MATERIAL OUT

Reading a material out helps you calm down
and pay attention to each word in the text.
I particularly use this method during
my undergraduate days.
Reading out the text makes it engaging. Sometimes,
I teach myself bystanding in front of the mirror
or being alone in a room.

Don’t say this sounds like a secondary student’s method,
if it’s working for others, why not give it a try now.

I will stop here for now and continue in my next article.

Education › Have You Failed Citn Exams Before? ………. Try This Exam Success Habit by starryadmin(op): 1:06pm On Mar 09, 2020
If you have failed an exam like CITN before, the feeling could be so devastating
and sometimes, we just give up.
We have all experience one form of failure in our life before and
That experience has thought me that success is just a step away if we try but
when we refuse to try, that is when we actually failed.
According to Thomas A. Edison; many of life’s failures are people who
did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

When you now decide to give CITN exam a try,
sometimes, your mind just keeps asking you that, what if you fail this diet again?
My answer for you is, what if you pass this diet?

What you need now is to develop a new success habit;

• Stop thinking of your past failure and that visualizing that you will pass.
Don’t think of it as failure. Think of it as time-released success --Robert Orben

Don’t worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try. --Jack Canfield.

• Start seeing failure as just an event that happened to you, so never see yourself as a failure.
Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.-- Robert T. Kiyosaki

Failure is simply an opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently. Henry Ford

Education › How Deal With Your Difficult Boss (part 1) by starryadmin(op): 12:10pm On Mar 09, 2020
Loving what you do is the energy you need to keep you going at your place of work; it motivates you which in turn makes you produce amazing results.
However, it turned out that my love for my job got on a
perpetual decline after losing the most wonderful boss I ever had to a terminal illness.

My new boss was an unbearable person, so I left. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the next job as sooner as I anticipated.
Things got tougher, my purse ran dry, bank accounts emptied and I was back to being dependent.

After a long while of desperate search, I got a job. And then I thought, finally!
My new boss gave me a warm welcome on the first day. By the next day, I realized that I was working with Adolf Hitler and so, I had to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea.
I mean, I just couldn’t QUIT. I knew there had to be way around this

HERE’S THE PRACTICAL STEPS TO DEALING WITH A DIFFICULT BOSS

If quitting is not an option for you, then, here are some practical steps to dealing with a difficult boss

STEP 1: BE PRODUCTIVE-
Productivity makes a person relevant in the organization. Get any or every material that can help you become effective and efficient in your work place in order to reduce the rate at which your difficult boss is displeased.
Once I knew I couldn’t just quit this job like the previous one. I had to do all I could to be relevant. I was constantly on my toes and this helped in a lot of ways; I was able to preempt my boss to the point that I got to know what he wants per time. I can boldly tell you that even though my boss is not a smiling person, he appreciates my efforts and does not yell at me anymore even though I make mistakes once in a while.
Challenges are very healthy for our personal and professional life. Wake up to the challenge and constantly update your skills for maximum productivity.

I will continue in my next article.

Education › Feel The Exam Fear - But Convert It To Excitement by starryadmin(op): 11:51am On Mar 09, 2020
ICAN exam day is always filled with drama, you will see the overzealous students still opening their textbooks, you will see students using calculator and you will be wondering what they are calculating.

Sometimes fear will just grip you when you see the seriousness in other student’s facial expression. Even the sight of the exam paper can make you start sweating.

I remember watching a lady who sat next to me on ICAN exam day, her lips looked so dry, she was sweating and her hand was shaking when she was given the exam paper.

What she experienced at that moment was anxiety or fear?

Fear and anxiousness on exam day is normal but you must not let it prevent you from doing well in the exam.

If you are aware that anxiety or fear could happen on exam day, then you can convert the anxiety or fear to excitement by smiling or laughing at yourself when you noticed it.

The truth is that even the so called intelligent students also have this fear or anxiety …. I am a witness.

P.S: “The day I’m not nervous is the day I quit… That’s the greatest thing about it, just to feel that rush.” - Tiger Woods
He always turns his anxiety into excitement.
So, on ICAN exam day, please turn your fear and anxiety into excitement.

Education › Atswa…….the Fastest Route To Become A Chartered Accountant In Nigeria by starryadmin(op): 5:24pm On Mar 06, 2020
Do you know that you can start your accounting career
immediately after you finished Secondary School?
But most commercial department students of secondary schools are
not aware of this, according to a recent survey

If you start ATS after secondary school, you would have
become a Chartered Accountant before you
graduate from the university.

This is how it works;
After your SSCE, in a year, you will finish ATS 1 the first diet and
ATS 2 the second diet because in a year there are two ATS diets.
The next year, you will finish ATS 3.
While in the university, since you have ATSWA certificate, you will start ICAN from
Skill Level because you will be given exemption for Foundation Level and
one paper in Skill Level(Audit and Assurance), it means you will not write any paper in
Foundation Level and one paper in Skill Level which is Audit and Assurance.

So in your year 1 in the university, you can write ICAN Skill Level and
in year 2 you can write Professional level.

You may ask, but how will I combine all the ATS courses with
my school studies? The answer is simple,
what you will be learning in the university is almost
equivalent to ICAN courses, if you are studying accounting,
but
if you are studying other courses, the truth is
your brain is still fresh while you are still in school and
it can accommodate as much as you allow, so no shaking.

This means by the time you graduate from the university,
you would have become a Chartered Accountant.
This will give you an advantage as a young graduated, in fact it is easy for
companies like PWC, Adekola Deloitte, KPMG, Accenture Inc and other
top accounting firms to employ you.

Isn’t that enough reason for you, your child or anyone you know to start their
accounting career journey immediately after secondary school?

Don’t just read please share with others

P.S : Information is power only if you can take action with it.
Then, and only then, does it represent knowledge and, consequently, power……. Daniel Burrus

Education › Was Always Busy At Work, Yet Got Sacked….. by starryadmin(op): 4:29pm On Mar 06, 2020
According to the bureau of statistic,
in the first week of December 2019,Nigeria Banks have sacked over 2,929 workers.

Jumoke who was one of the workers that was sacked
went on Twitter to lay her outburst.
She said that she was one of the active workers in her
department yet she was sacked.

So I DM her and asked her few questions;

Starry: Hello Jumoke, sorry for what happened to you.
Jumoke: Hi, but who are you.
Starry: Just let me bea shoulder you can learn and cry on. I really empathize with you.
Jumoke: ok thanks.
Starry: Can I ask you few questions?
Jumoke: Kindly go ahead.
Starry: Were you the only person in your department?
Jumoke: No, we’re two, the second person was not sacked.
Starry: Please give me the full details why you think you were sacked.
Jumoke: I worked in Micro-finance bank and I’m very good at
using Accounting software used in the company.
I go the extra mile such that I close late just to make sure
there is no outstanding task to be done.

I also go to work sometimes on Saturday.
But my colleague that was retained has only an edge over me,
sheis the one that handles all our manual excel document,
she analyze and format the data before it is uploaded into the accounting software.

Once it is 5pm, she is on her way home and
had never been to work on Saturday even though
she would be paid bonus if she came.

I still can’t figure out why they should sack me but retained her.

I want you to be the judge, if you were the owner of the company,
if you have to sack one of them, who will you sack?

“It's not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is,what are we busy about?” -- Henry David Thoreau.

Busy people think that getting more things done in the
sanctioned eight or nine hours at work is the way to go.
They fit in too many tasks in their to-do list
only to end up moving most of their tasks the next day.

Productive people know too well that they do not need 40 tasks in their to-do list.

They take a less-is-more approach
when it comes to planning their work day
by only accomplishing those that are important.

P.S: There is a huge difference between being busy and being productive. You can be busy all day and still feel like you’re behind on accomplishing your goals.

How about clearing 75% of your long to-do list without getting the two really important things completed? You were really busy, but were you productive?

Education › I've Not Read Enough by starryadmin(op): 1:27pm On Mar 06, 2020
Many students have this
“I’ve not read enough’ feelings
as the exam date draws near.

It is natural to feel unprepared
for an exams you've been preparing for months.

Most people then think
the best thing to do to cram.
But cramming doesn't work
for retaining information. The best thing
to do at the moment is to relax.

Below are few things you can do
to help you overcome this feeling

1. Get organized:

Most students get confused
while studying, they just can't figure out
what to study at a particular time.

Get your study ready and plan your studies.

2. Set a target:

For every study time, set a target
for what you want to achieve
at the end of the study time.
This helps you to know
if you've achieved your set target.

3. Take, Make, Interact with and Reflect on Notes
Taking notes is important.
An active note-taking process is
important to help you transfer
new information from short-term memory
and then recall it more easily
after it is stored in the long-term memory.

4. Keep interacting with the content
Research has found that
the rate at which a person will forget
information is minimized if such person
interacts with (reread/discuss/write)
the new information within 24 hours of first receiving it.
A second, shorter repetition within 24 hours
brings recall back up to 100%.
A third repetition within a week for an
even shorter time brings recall back to 100%.

5. Solve Past Question
Solving past question helps you to recall
and retain whatever you've learn.
As a way to help you organize your study,
you can get the 30 days blue print to help you
plan and finish the syllabus in 30 days.

PS: Once you have followed the guideline and you still feel unprepared, shut out the feelings and concentrate on putting in your best at the examination hall

Education › Have You Abandoned Your CIS Career? Please Read This… (part 2) by starryadmin(op): 12:10pm On Mar 05, 2020
I want to believe that you have finally
made up your mind to continue with your CIS career.
Or maybe you are still contemplating.

So, let’s continue from where we stopped in the part one of this article.

In case you missed part one, see link here ………..

See list of some prominent people ‘successful failures’
who bounced back from failure;

3. WALT DISNEY :

• Did you know he was fired from the
Kansas City Star because his editor felt he
“lacked imagination and had no good ideas.”

• Did you know that Walt formed his first
animation company in Kansas City in 1921 and
made a deal with a distribution company in which he
would ship them his cartoons in New York
and get paid six months later?

• Unsurprisingly, he was forced to dissolve his
company because he could not pay his rent and
was (reportedly) surviving on dog food.

• Needless to say, he went on to be nominated for
59 Academy Awards and he is a
great animator of our time.

4. STEPHEN KING:

It is termed ‘the king of talk’
• Did you know that one of his most successful books,
Carrie, was rejected by 30 publishers,
one of whom told him that “negative utopias” do not sell?

• Did you know that after so many rejections,
King reportedly gave up and threw the
manuscript in the bin?
Luckily,
his wife retrieved it and urged him to have another go.

• Did you know that he eventually published Carrie,
and the rest is history?

5. JK ROWLING

The author of the hugely successful
Harry Potter series has had anything but a smooth ride.

• Did you know that by the time she finished the
first of the Harry Potter books,
she was divorced, on welfare and with a child to support?

• Did you know that all 12 major publishers rejected
the Harry Potter manuscript?

• Did you know that finally, a year later Bloomsbury
accepted it and extended a very small £1500 advance?

No doubt, it was one of the best decisions the
publishing house has ever made.

6. COLONEL SANDERS

It’s never too late to start a fast food empire. Just look at Colonel Sanders.

• Did you know that it wasn’t until the age of 62
that Sanders, with a $105 social security check in hand,
pitched his chicken recipe to restaurants?

• Did you know that according to reports,
some 1,009 people rejected him?

• Instead of giving up, he hit the road and began trying
to sell his franchise-model chicken restaurant,
eventually he succeeded with a restaurant outside of Utah.

• It became the first Kentucky Fried Chicken and
the restaurant tripled sales in a year,
mostly from the colonel’s chicken.

The bottom Line is that every success has a failure experience within it.
So, you see, it’s rare that successful people have a smooth run.

P.S: In fact, you could argue that one of the prerequisites for success is
some hurdles along the way that help you build strength and resilience .

Don’t you think it’s time to give your CIS career journey another shot?

Education › Being Chartered Is IMPORTANT But The Knowledge Of IFRS Is IMPORTANTER by starryadmin(op): 11:55am On Mar 05, 2020
Being Chartered makes you a better Accountant
Yet
An investment in the knowledge of the IFRS makes you a different Chartered Accountant.

I know what I passed through just to get Chartered
So when a friend of mine, Jude told me about IFRS and
the fact that I needed an in-depth knowledge, I just waved it off,
‘I cannot come and kill myself’

Years back, I had a serious issue with preparing the company’s
financial statements because my superior expressly told me to implement the IFRS
So I quickly called my friend to fix it up for me.
Jude came to my rescue but billed me for this service.

Actually, I was quite reluctant to engage in anything that
had to do with another round of studying
But when I finally decided to equip myself with the knowledge of IFRS,
I was amazed with my discovery

The knowledge of IFRS helped me set a standard for
preparing financial statements. So whether or not
I’m instructed to implement it,
I already have a platform that guides me in my job

And ever since I’ve had this knowledge, I’ve earned a lot
of respect from my superiors because nothing within
the radar of my job description passes me unnoticed, as
there is a standard and a principle that guides me in
performing my duty as a Chartered Accountant.

I’ve been Chartered for 22 years now and I can tell for sure that
being Chartered is important, but having the knowledge of IFRS is importanter

It made me different,

it made me consistent,

it helped me set standard for my work

And when we implemented it,
it gave credibility to my company

AND

more credibility to me too.

P.S: The world is already full of geniuses, so striving to be a genius is almost like being one of them. If you want to be outstanding, be different.

You can add more to yourself by getting your IFRS Video Tutorial and since no knowledge is wasted, it can only add up to make you better in your Career

Education › Why Stress Yourself by starryadmin(op): 1:42pm On Mar 04, 2020
I was going home from work on Monday evening,
I left my office around 6pm, got to the bus stop
and there goes about 30 other commuters
struggling for bus. I joined as I no get choice.

After spending about 30 minutes
struggling with other passengers
i finally got into a bus.

A distance that cost 100naira on
a normal day was inflated to N400.

What choice do i have?
It’s either i entered the bus and paid
the fair or I remained at the bus stop.
I chose the latter.

As if that was not enough,
I got trapped in the traffic for 4hours,
for a journey that was not more than 30 minutes.
I got home at past 10, tired, exhausted and hungry.

I took my shower, ate and brought
out my study pack to read, but
I was unable to concentrate due to
physical and mental tiredness.
I decided to go to bed and set my alarm to 3am.

The alarm rang but i was too tired
to even get out of bed. I switched
off the alarm and went straight back to bed.

That was how a whole day went
without me reading and gaining anything.
And this kept happening to me until
I was able to get the ICAN Video Lecture.

I know many of you are in similar situation.
You go to work after the day's work,
you plan to study but you end up
getting stuck in traffic, getting home late
and tired and exhausted and frustrated.

A tired body and mind can't read or assimilate anything.

You still go through the same stress
on weekend because you want to attend ICAN lectures.

So, why stress yourself when you can
study anytime and anyplace.
