Past exam papers are an essential part of preparing for any exams.
They provide a useful resource for preparing for your exams in that,
you are able to familiarize yourself with the style, theme, depth and
techniques used in the particular exams that you are writing.

It’s well understood in psychology that you are more likely to retain something if you learn it with practice.
Practicing past questions will improve your retention rate and will help you to better understand what you have studied.

Some of the essential benefits of practicing with past exams questions include;

• You will have experience of the pattern of the exam questions, which will make you more familiarize with the exam.

• It will give you a good idea of what the examiners are expecting. Hence, in the exam you will save a lot of time thinking about how to articulate what you want to say.

• Improvement of time management. Past exam papers are actual exams that were used to test other students. With such a resource, you will be able to understand how it feels to sit for the actual exam.

You can use the past questions to practice and see how much time you would spend to complete an exam paper - as if it were your actual exam. It teaches you how to effectively allocate time for each exam question.

What this means is that, with your ICAN (ACA) you can be certified without writing any exam for the following; Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

All you need is just few years of working experience and, yes, without writing any exams.

Besides that, few new ones just released are going to be tested now.

· In the exams structure, nothing changes in foundation, but in Skills and Professional, question one is now compulsory which is going to be 40marks and that question one in every diet will come from the Core Topic Area.

· If you wrote Foundation last diet and you are to move to Skill level now, you are allowed to combine taxation which has been moved to foundation with the skill courses in your exams.

· In Case Study, you will be given a Case two weeks to the exams for proper study.

Please note that, it’s the case you are going to be given and not the question and requirement, the question and will be given to students on the day of the exams.

Also the maximum pages now for case study is 30 pages as against the previous 15 pages.

· Please note that what the examiner will be testing for in your Case Study is your analytical skills, which means that at the end of your analysis or answers, you are expected to give summary.

· Marking of exams now is going to be onscreen marking which means that it’s going to take a minimum time for ICAN to release their results. To that effect, there will now be three diets in a year which is going to be March, July and November.

· Registration for the exams will no longer be allowed at the last minutes of the exams as there will now be a deadline for registration. Which means after the deadline, ICAN will accept your payment but will not allow you to sit for the exams for the diet but will instead, carry the registration over to the next diet.

Please note that according to ICAN; as they have simplified things for the students with the Core Topic Areas for each subject which is going to be 40% of your total scores, the marking scheme now will be stricter.

I know Preparing for exams can be very demanding.

• How many hours each day/week will I block out to study?

• Which topics do I need further clarifications on?

• Which assignments will I review?

• How many exams questions will I need to practice in every topic I study?

• What distractions am I likely to face, and how will I overcome them?





With these questions in mind, you will be able to strategize and eliminate every hindering obstacle.

Within the brain, the hypothalamus sends a signal to the pituitary gland and tells it to release various stress chemicals into the blood stream. This reaches the adrenal cortex in less than three minutes and tells it to produce cortisol - a primary stress hormone.



Stressed has been shown to limit the communication between brain cells.

It is advisable to visit the exam venue at

least a day to the exam day. Why should you do this?

This will help you understand the terrain of the journey, the bus stop, and the navigation.

Trust me, its pretty stressful to start looking for

the venue on the day of the exams. First,

you may have had the experience of asking

someone for direction whom you taught knows the direction to a new location you were looking for only for the person to point you in the wrong direction instead of the person to say

‘I don’t know the location’, but he will rather point

you in any direction that comes to mind. most times,

its the opposite direction to your destination.

So

1. It is advisable to locate the exams venue at least a day to the exams to avoid unnecessary stress.

2. It is advisable to relocate or move closer

to the venue of the exams if you can find a temporary accommodation or simply book a hotel room closer to the exams venue.

#4: DON’T MULTITASK
I know it’s a shocker, are you surprise about this?
We all believe we can multitask and handle more. But it’s not true for most of us.
The truth is that, our brain performs much better when it focuses on one task.
While multitasking, the brain has to stop one process, switch and align to another function, then stop that process to get back to the previous process.
It takes as much as twice the time to complete one task because of all the stopping, switching and aligning.
So, don’t multitask.
When it is time for study, I advise you stay away from TV and other forms of distraction.
