CrimeWoman Sobs Through Apology For Killing Twin Sister In Drunken Fight. Judge Sente by stellapatu(op): 5:34pm On Nov 25, 2019
A woman who stabbed her twin sister to death sobbed as she was sentenced to six years for the murder.

Amanda Ramirez, 27, admitted killing her twin, Anna, during a drunken fight outside their home in Camden, New Jersey, in June that police initially blamed on a love triangle.

However, Ramirez, told New York Superior Court, Thursday, that she has no recollection of why she did it.

'I know there’s nothing I can say to justify what I did. I just want to make it clear that I never had intentions of taking my twin sister’s life,' she said through tears according to NJ.com.'If I could take back what I did I would in a heartbeat. Having to live with the fact that she’s no longer alive is devastating.

I just want to apologize to my family for putting them through this. I hope that they all can forgive me.'

Her family appealed for a lenient sentence with sister Bianca, 16, telling Judge Edward McBride 'You hold my sister’s life in your hands, so please be gentle'.

Another sister, Monica, 19, said the family is now caring for the twins’ children - Amanda's two-year-old daughter and Anna's three children.

Her attorney, Jordan Zeitz, said the killing caused by his client not dealing with postpartum depression.

Ramirez initially denied stabbing her sister outside an apartment complex in Camden on June 22.

CrimeBrit Paratrooper Jailed In Iraq For Killing Two Comrades Is Flown To UK Prison by stellapatu(op): 8:30pm On Nov 24, 2019
A former British paratrooper who was imprisoned in Iraq after shooting dead two bodyguards during a gun rampage has been extradited back to the UK.

Daniel Fitzsimons, 41, gunned down ex-Royal Marine Paul McGuigan and Australian Darren Hoare, both 37, while they were working for ArmorGroup, a subsidiary of G4S.

He was jailed for 20 years in 2011 after the 2009 killing, however he is now serving his time in Britain after being flown home earlier this year, reports the Mirror.

Sources have said that Fitzsimons might be released in 2024 and it is thought he is currently being held at Wandsworth Prison in LondonFitzsimons was the first westerner convicted in Iraq since the 2003 invasion and it is thought that while jailed in Baghdad he was alongside al-Qaeda loyalists.

During his time in prison Fitzsimons, who is originally from Rochdale, allegedly found it difficult to hide his western roots as he is said to have English football tattoos.

It has also been reported that the former paratrooper learned to speak fluent Arabic during his time locked up in Iraq.

Fitzsimons killed Mr McGuigan and Mr Hoare in August 2011, just 36 hours after he arrived in Iraq to start work.

It later emerged during an inquest that he had forged documents to gain a security position and G4S had failed to properly check his criminal record.

The former soldier had been due to appear in court in Bolton after being accused of assaulting an Asian man on a train and also a firearms offence where he used a flare gun to scare off teenagers causing trouble outside his flat.

At the 2011 trial Fitzsimons narrowly escaped the death penalty and was jailed for 20 years in Iraq for double murder and wounding an Iraqi security guard.

EventsHis Dad Has Been Deployed 10 Times. This Is His Message To Other Military Kids by stellapatu(op): 11:53am On Nov 21, 2019
His father, Dave, is a Green Beret on his 10th deployment. The family lives in northern Virginia while Dave is stationed somewhere overseas. Davidson is used to not having his dad around, but he never forgets him.

"Sometimes it's fine because we actually do a lot of fun things while he's away, but it's also sad because he's just not here," Davidson told CNN. "My mom sometimes breaks down and cries a lot because she misses him. And it's not really hard for her because I help her, but it's just she misses him."

Davidson sees the world matter-of-factly, approaching his dad's deployments with the strength that many military families display.

"I don't even know where he is, but I think he's fine because he's a good, strong guy," he said.

Each family deals with the hardship in their own way. This is how Davidson's family does it. They asked that CNN not use their last name for security reasons.'My mom cried and I was pretty scared that my dad was going to die'
Davidson helps his mom, Elizabeth, whether it's holding his youngest sister or reading bedtime stories to his three younger siblings.

But Davidson does more than read books. When he was 6, he wrote a book about about what a military parent's absence means to a child.

Davidson's book is finally coming out just in time for this Veterans Day. It's called "Brave for my Family" and was published under a pen name, Davidson Whetstone. His father illustrated the book.

When Davidson was 3, his dad was wounded by a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan days before Christmas in 2013.

"My Mom cried and I was pretty scared that my Dad was going to die," Davidson wrote in the book. "We got on an airplane to Washington, DC."

Dave was flown to Germany and then to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he underwent several surgeries. Shrapnel hit him in the face and down his right side, missing his carotid artery by millimeters. He lost peripheral vision in his right eye and shrapnel remains in his body today.

Davidson said he doesn't remember how he felt when he learned about what happened to his dad. He just remembers being grateful to see and hug him.

"I wanted to write the book because I wanted to show other kids that they won't have to be scared when their dads are deployed to countries that war is going on and scary things," Davidson said.

Seeing the illustration of Dave in the hospital brings back the emotions of what happened.

"When you look at it in the book, it just looks so real," Elizabeth said in between tears. "It brings me back to that day where I walked in and I saw him hugging Davidson and all his shrapnel wounds."

CrimeA Bank Teller, 19, 'broke Into The Home Of 78-year-old Customer Who Withdrew A L by stellapatu(op): 11:44am On Nov 21, 2019
A young bank teller in Maryland was arrested after authorities say he pushed his way into the house of an elderly customer who had made several large withdrawals and assaulted him because he was in need of money.

Nathan Michael Newell, 19, of Bel Air was arrested Wednesday at the bank where he was working, says the Harford County Sherriff's Office.

Deputies traced him to the job after responding to the home invasion two days earlier and learning of the 78-year-old victim's money withdrawals, says the sheriff's office.

After his arrest, Newell reportedly confessed to the crime, saying he had done it because he was 'tired of working two jobs', the Baltimore Sun reports. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries. He suffered a broken leg, a bruised orbital area, two loose teeth and heart issues after the assault, the Sun reports.

The man's 57-year-old stepdaughter, who had intervened in the assault, also suffered a cut to her face and was treated at the scene after authorities arrived.

Deputies were called to the victim's home in the 1800 block of Still Pond Way in Bel Air about 8:30pm Monday in reference to a burglary in progress, the sheriff's office says.

Upon arrival, deputies say they were told that an unknown man had rung the doorbell and then forced his way inside where he attacked the elderly man until the stepdaughter stepped in to fend off the attack.

The suspect, later identified as Newell, then ran upstairs as the stepdaughter left the residence to call for help. The suspect later fled the house and was not found after a K9 search of the area, authorities said.

The intruder was wearing a mask at the time of the home invasion, which had fallen off during the struggle, revealing his face to the victim and stepdaughter, reports the sun.

Health'treatment Caused Me To Miss My Nana's Wedding, But Miraculously I Made It To Th by stellapatu(op): 11:16pm On Nov 18, 2019
Nia Roscoe, from Flint, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018, aged just 27.

Following the diagnoses, she was referred to The Walton Centre - a major neurology hospital in Liverpool.

And while the only positive news to come out of that diagnosis was that the tumour was benign, it did not mean Nia was in the clear.

They can cause seizures or cause neurologic problems, such as paralysis and speech difficulties.

Even if a brain tumour is benign and growing slowly, eventually the brain will not be able to tolerate that, and symptoms will develop, which can be life-threatening.

And those dangers became a reality when Nia was told she needed to have surgery to remove the tumour - which had begun to grow rapidly. She underwent a gruelling 12 hours of surgery to try remove the tumour that was growing on her brain.

Nia said: "At first, the doctors said we'll just monitor the tumour and see how we go, whilst deciding what I would like to do if the time come to needing surgery or leave it.

"A few months later, I had the option to leave the tumour taken away from me due to the speed at which it was growing.

"The surgery didn't really phase me as I'd already researched everything when they said I may be able to go for that option so I knew the operation process.

"But my family were really scared."

Nia had surgery on her stomach to remove fat, to add in place of the tumour.

CrimeThree People Found Guilty Of Manslaughter After Illegally Installed Gas Line Exp by stellapatu(op): 11:03pm On Nov 18, 2019
Three people were convicted of manslaughter Friday in the 2015 building explosion that killed two men and leveled two buildings in New York City's East Village.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office announced that a jury found landlord Maria Hrynenko, 59, plumber Athanasios 'Jerry' Ioannidis, 63, and contractor Dilber Kukic, 44, guilty of manslaughter in the second degree for the deaths of two men in the explosion.

The three were also found guilty of assault in the second and third degrees and reckless endangerment in the second degree, for the serious injuries to 13 people who were caught in the blast that leveled two building.

During the trial, prosecutors said that the three defendants were caught by utility firm Con Edison for an illegal gas line constructed with leak-prone plastic pipe seven months before the explosion.

Con Edison ordered them to fix the problem, but instead they devised a way to illegally tap into the gas line of 119 Second Avenue, owned by Hrynenko, to provide gas to the apartments at 121 Second Avenue, Hrynenko's other building. The second gas line was hidden from Con Edison and city inspectors inside a locked utility room, Clarke said.

Prosecutors said the defendants displayed a 'blatant disregard for the well-being of others' when they 'ignored' the risks and rushed the project because Hrynenko didn't want to lose rent income from the $6,000-per-month apartments.

Prosecutors also said Ioannidis was operating without a license, and the building owner, Hrynenko, urged him and Kukic to do the work as fast as possible, before Con Edison could inspect the site.

The gas that escaped from the faulty and illegal hook-up was said to have caught on fire, triggering an explosion that leveled two buildings, killing a busboy Moises Locon, 26, and restaurant guest Nicholas Figueroa, 23.

The two men were in a Japanese restaurant housed in one of the two buildings Hrynenko owned.

The explosion also injured two dozen others, among them Kukic and the landlord’s son, Michael Hryenko Jr., as well as former fire department Battalion Chief Edward Tierney.

EventsOh Singer Who Married A Felon Serving A LIFE SENTENCE Releases SONGS About Her B by stellapatu(op): 8:30pm On Nov 15, 2019
A Los Angeles woman who married a man serving a life sentence in prison insists their relationship is blossoming despite the couple only getting to spend a night together once every four months.

Maria Ferrer, 34, met her incarcerated husband Rayshun, 33, in October 2014 through a mutual friend, and though she says she never imagined that she's find love with someone in prison, she knew there was a strong connection from the very first conversation.

Now Maria, a singer and vocal coach, is writing songs about her experience as a prison wife, and has released two albums called The Prison Wife Handbook and The Prison Wife Handbook 2.

In 2014, a mutual friend introduced her to Rayshun, who was sent to prison for life when he was 15 for a crime she doesn't wish to disclose. He was a juvenile offender and received a life sentence for his offence. He was only 15 when he was put in prison and he’s now 33,' she said.

'At first I felt compassion for him being incarcerated at such a young age, though I didn’t expect to fall in love. However, I really enjoyed our first conversation and I felt a strong connection to him right away,' she added.

Maria and Rayshun got married in 2016, which allowed Maria to have conjugal visits once every four months.

'The visits are a great time for us to connect,' she said. 'Last time we just spoke for over eight hours and looked up and watched the sun go down. I even asked him for a slow dance… although he had two left feet, I was having the time of my life.'

Although Rayshun is locked up for life, there have been many changes in laws affecting youth offenders who were under the age of 21 when they committed their crime. This means that Rayshun could be eligible for parole in eight years.

The couple plan to live together and hopefully start a family when he is released.

'I can’t wait for us to live together,' she said. 'I’m looking forward to us living together and possibly starting a family when he leaves prison.

'It’s certainly hard when he’s not here to help with daily tasks. It’s also hard because he can’t see the success I’m having with my music.

Maria has been a singer her whole life, but switched to vocal coaching a decade ago, moving to Los Angeles and starting her own company, Queen Vision Entertainment.

FamilyCivil Servant Who Endured The Agony Of Losing 12 Babies Tells Of Her Delight At by stellapatu(op): 7:51pm On Nov 15, 2019
A civil servant who endured the heartbreak of losing 12 babies has told of her delight after having two sons born through medical trials.

Ellie Robson-Grice, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, feared she would never have children with her medical translator husband Mike, 35. The pair even considered adopting at one point.

The 36-year-old had seven miscarriages and a medical termination with her former partner, before experiencing four more miscarriages with Mike. Doctors never found if there was anything to blame for her ordeals.

But now she is a proud mother to Aidan, four, and Sam, six months, after taking part in one trial to make her uterus a more habitable place for pregnancy and another to increase the chance of an embryo implanting.

The former involved injecting a protein or a placebo into her stomach to try and make her uterus - Mrs Robson-Grice still does not know what she received. The latter saw doctors give her an endometrial scratch.

She said: 'I had always really hoped to be a mum, but had it in the back of my mind that it would not happen. I don't know why I felt like that.

'I met my first partner at university and we started trying and had a number of losses in quite quick succession, after which I realised I was probably never going to be a mum.

'I actually had no problem getting pregnant. The first time I was using contraception and fell pregnant, but I would miscarry within a few weeks.'

Mrs Robson-Grice's first pregnancy with her former partner, who she does not wish to name, was in 2008 when she was 25.

'We were so happy, but eight weeks in I started to experience pain while on the bus home. I went to hospital and was told the baby had gone,' she recalled.

'It was heartbreaking and took us completely by surprise. Between 2008 and 2011 we lost six babies, in just a three-year period.'

Two of her miscarriages happened before her 12 week scan, then in 2010 she made the ‘hardest and most harrowing’ decision to terminate a pregnancy.

She was told the baby had a 10 per cent chance of surviving to full term and that if they survived outside the womb they would have significant abnormalities.

Following a devastating fourth miscarriage in March 2011, doctors tested the tissue produced, but could not explain what was happening.

CrimeA Connecticut Banker Charged With Manslaughter In The Death Of 'cocaine-crazed by stellapatu(op): 7:38pm On Nov 15, 2019
Shocking recordings have emerged of the threats made against a Connecticut banker charged in the death of a hotel worker in Anguilla as island authorities issued an arrest warrant after he refused to return for a court hearing.

Scott Hapgood, 46, refused to return to the Caribbean island for a court hearing on Monday, citing the vicious death threats he has received and concerns about receiving a fair trial.

Hapgood and his family say a hotel worker, Kenny Mitchel, 27, showed up at their room unannounced during their April vacation. They say he pulled a knife and threatened Hapgood and his young daughters before attacking the father.

Mitchel died, and Hapgood, who said he acted in self-defense, was charged with manslaughter.

A toxicology report said Mitchel had cocaine in his system at the time, but prosecutors pressed charges nonetheless after massive outcry from islanders to make an example of Hapgood.

An arrest warrant was issued in Anguilla on Tuesday after Hapgood failed to return to the island for his latest court hearing. His spokesman told DailyMail.com that he could not attend, given the circumstances, for fear of attack or being thrown in jail.

'There is a significant likelihood Scott's incarceration would be indefinite, as a trial may not happen for many years.

'Second, there is near certainty the death threats he has received will come to fruition if he were to be held in an Anguillan prison for any length of time.

'For these reasons, Scott has not returned to Anguilla,' he said.

He declined to state whether the banker would ever agree to go back, saying only: 'We're only focused on this particular hearing at the moment, so we have no comment on whether he would return in the future.'

Hapgood, he added, offered to appear via video link but his spokesman says the court refused.

He also says it is 'abundantly clear' that the case against him is prejudiced.

Jeff Brazier has revealed he lives his life as though he's 'lucky to be alive' after his mother was encouraged to terminate her pregnancy when she was just 15.

The footballer-turned-TV presenter, 40, from Tiptree, Essex, said he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for his mum Jeanette's 'stubborn' nature.

Father-of-two Jeff, who had two sons - Bobby, 16, and Freddy, 15 - with the late Jade Goody, also revealed meditating helps him deal with the stresses of life.Speaking at the World Travel Market (WTM) event in London, where he was promoting holidays in Las Vegas, he said: 'When my mother fell pregnant, everyone was saying to her, "Give yourself a chance, don't go through with it".

'And if it wasn't for her being stubborn, I wouldn't be here, so I now like to think that I live life as though I'm lucky to be here, regardless of what I've been through and the challenges I've been given.'

Jeff's childhood saw him spend time in a women's refuge in Yarmouth, after Jeanette took him and his brother Spencer there when her relationship with his stepfather broke down.

He only ever came face-to-face with his biological father Stephen Faldo - who was 19 and a skipper on the River Thames at the time - when he was a newborn baby.

HealthMum Thought Son, 7, Was Being Silly At His Party - But He Was Having A Stroke by stellapatu(op): 2:52pm On Nov 11, 2019
As Max Davenport crouched down on the floor in the middle of his seventh birthday party, his mum thought he was just playing and 'being silly'.

But the youngster began 'twitching,' suddenly lost the ability to move, his left arm was 'like a rag doll,' he had 'glazed eyes' and couldn't speak.

Terrifyingly, as Max's mouth drooped 'like in the adverts,' mum Michelle Davenport knew her little boy was having a stroke.

Just minutes before, Max had been running around with his friends.

But out of nowhere, he was quietly staring at his parents who had no idea why he'd had a stroke or that he'd have to embark on a six month recovery journey and learn to walk again.Max's stroke has also left him unable to use his left hand or foot.

Michelle, 37, has shared her brave son's story in order to raise awareness of the fact that strokes can happen to young people.

The pharmaceutical technician from Blackwater, Hampshire, told Mirror.co.uk: "I was completely gobsmacked, there was nothing wrong with him before.

"All of a sudden my husband said to me 'what's he doing?'

"He was sitting on the floor and looked like he was twitching.

"I thought he was being silly.

"My husband went over to him to pick him up.

"I looked at Max and he was completely blank, staring through me.

"He was wide eyed but there was nothing there - he was completely lifeless but staring at me. "

She added: "I thought he was having a fit, I knew something wasn't right.

"I said 'something is happening, I can't get him to answer me.' We were all trying to talk to him.

"He was making a funny noise from his throat, whimpering like he was trying to talk.

"I couldn't get his left arm to move.

Part of the proceeds go to initiatives such as making reusable sanitary kits for women in the area and supporting the tribe.

Ms Fuchs started working at a research camp close to the Selous Game Reserve in 2010. She enjoyed the experience so much that she extended her three-month trip to a year and started speaking Swahili in the process.

While on Mafia Island she spotted a group of “ tall, beautiful herdsman” who follow the ancient tradition of shepherding cattle through the African savannah. Her future husband, Sokoine, was adorned in red clothing and “beautiful handmade jewellery”.

“In that moment I saw only him – he was taller than the others and had the most beautiful eyes,” she told the Standard.

“As I was intrigued and impressed by them and particularly him, I tried to engage them in conversation with my Swahili. They were friendly but in a rush to get going.”

In the days and weeks that followed, Ms Fuchs tried to strike up small talk whenever she saw Sokoine.

"I was more determined than ever to have a proper conversation with him,” she said.

“And we did. We opened up to each other and about a week later we got together.”

Ashley Auzenne, 39, was found dead Tuesday morning along with her children, 11-year-old Parrish, 9-year-old Eleanor Auzenne and seven-year-old Lincoln after a relative phoned police asking for them to carry out a wellness check in their home in Deer Park, Texas.

HealthChinese Farmer, 34, Is Trapped In A Child's Body Due To Brain Injuries by stellapatu(op): 5:18pm On Nov 03, 2019
A 34-year-old man in China has been trapped in a child's body due to brain injuries he had when he was six.

Farmer Zhu Shengkai from the province of Hubei claimed his body stopped growing after he was hit in the head by a stone in his childhood.

The man, who also works as a hairdresser, said: 'I am still like a child, therefore I cannot have a wife or child.'

He then joked: 'I cannot grow old.'Speaking to Chinese media from his home in a village near the city of Wuhan, he added: 'Although I am 34 years old, my body functions are still immature like those of a child.'

He said he was often mistaken for a boy by the others due to his child-like voice and looks.

Mr Zhu said he was struck by the rock while playing a game.

He said he was told by doctors that he sustained injuries in the pituitary gland - part of the brain which releases hormones that control growth in the body.

However due to the lack of healthcare services in the 1980s in rural China, his condition never got treated properly.

According to the man, his head was not bleeding after he was hit, so he did not think much of it.

HealthPoverty-stricken Student, 24, Weighs Only THREE STONE After Being Forced To Star by stellapatu(op): 5:06pm On Nov 03, 2019
A poverty-stricken 24-year-old Chinese student weighs only a bit more than three stone because she couldn't afford to buy food, leading her to suffer from severe malnutrition.

Wu Huayan from rural Guizhou Province only has two yuan (20p) to spare each day on meals because she has to save money to treat her sick brother.

Ms Wu, who stands 4ft 5in tall and weighs 21.5kg (47 pounds), has been hospitalised and is awaiting surgery thanks to donations from Good Samaritans after her story was featured by Chinese media.

Ms Wu is a student at the Shenghua Vocational College in the city of Tongren.

Her mother died when she was four and her father died when she was 18, leaving her to be the sole carer of her younger brother who is mentally ill.Ms Wu says she receives 300 yuan (£33) per month from the local government as welfare, but with that money she also needs to cover part of her sibling's medical bills.

For the past five years, she has lived extremely frugally, eating as little food as possible.

'I am not like other people who can ask for money from their parents after they spend it. I don't have parents,' she said in a video interview.

With an impossible two yuan daily food budget, she is only allowed to eat two steam buns or two bowls of plain steamed rice.

'I used to have plenty of hair. But in the third year of high school, my hair started to fall out in lumps, so did my eyebrows,' Ms Wu said.

She added that her brother had to be hospitalised in the same year.

Although the government covered half of her brother's medical bills, she still had to borrow 5,000 yuan (£548) to pay for the rest.

HealthAstonishing Recovery Of Boy, 7, Who Suffered A STROKE During Soccer by stellapatu(op): 11:16am On Oct 31, 2019
Stephen Corner was playing in an afternoon soccer game in June when he started complaining of a headache.

During a break, he was sitting on his mother's lap when, all of a sudden, he collapsed.

The seven-year-old wasn't able to sit back up or talk - aside from faint mumbling sounds - and was clutching at his face.

His mother, Nicole Cavall, rushed him to a local hospital in their hometown of Mineral City, Ohio, where doctors confirmed he'd suffered a stroke.

Tests later showed that there was a clot in one of the main cerebral arteries in Stephen's brain, which doctors believe was caused by his body's inflammatory response to a prior viral illness.Nicole's car was two blocks from the soccer field, and Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital was round the corner, so Stephen was in the waiting room within five minutes of collapsing.

The first 30 minutes of stroke onset are crucial because a medical team can evaluate the type of stroke and the areas of the brain affected by it. Any later and it's more complicated due to the sheer quantity of blood flooding the brain.

Stephen underwent a CT scan, showing a likely pediatric stroke, but CT scans are not the best tool to detect early signs of a stroke. To be sure, doctors sent him to another local hospital that could perform an MRI - a more rapid approach - which confirmed it.

Finally, he was flown with his mother via helicopter to Cleveland Clinic Children's where interventional neurosurgeons could treat him.

'I'd never heard of a child having a stroke,' Nicole said in an interview with the Cleveland Clinic. 'He'd never had a medical problem in his life.'

According to analysis published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Neurology, around 75 percent of strokes occur in people aged 65 or old

EventsInteresting ,'men Are Not Asked About Their Fertility Nearly As Often by stellapatu(op): 11:01am On Oct 31, 2019
Carrie Bickmore welcomed daughter Adelaide with partner Chris Walker in December last year.

And if she had her way, The Project host says she would only discuss her baby plans when she feels ready.

In a column for Stellar magazine published on Saturday, the 38-year-old said she supported the magazine's decision to no longer ask women about whether they want children, or are planning to have kids. In particular, Carrie says it's heartbreaking for women to be asked about children when struggling with their fertility or after a miscarriage.

The TV host writes: 'I also know how difficult it is to dismiss or laugh off a seemingly 'banal' question about 'having another baby' just weeks after suffering a heartbreaking miscarriage.'

She added: 'Eventually I was OK to talk about it publicly. I wanted to share my journey, hoping it might help other women. But on my terms. When I felt ready.'

Carrie is a third-time mother to her 10-month-old daughter, Adelaide, and happily shares snaps of the tot to Instagram.

HealthOne Ex-liverpool Player Stephen Darby, 31, Describes His Battle With 'horrible' by stellapatu(op): 10:52am On Oct 31, 2019
Former Liverpool footballer Stephen Darby has spoken out one year on from being diagnosed with motor neurone disease about how it is affecting his wife and fellow footballer Steph Houghton.

Darby, 31, was told he had the incurable neurological condition just months after getting married to England women's captain Steph Houghton in 2018.

The ex-Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers star says the 'brutal disease' and its 'terrible prognosis' of two to five years is having a devastating effect on his family.

He told the BBC: 'It doesn't just affect me. It affects my wife, my mum and dad, my brother, family, friends. It affects everyone.

'It's a brutal disease with a horrible prognosis. That's the message we need to get across to people to help move forward.'Speaking at the launch of his charity, which he founded with fellow MND patient and Afghanistan veteran Chris Rimmer, he detailed his progressive symptoms.

He said: 'Physically, I've got hand weakness and my arms are weak at the moment.

'But I'd say a year after being diagnosed I'm not doing too bad.

'Life expectancy is normally two to five years for anyone with MND. A third of those people die within a year, that's obviously quite tough.'

Darby's condition saw him retire from football at 29. His friend and fellow charity founder Chris Rimmer medically retired from the Army at 32 in 2015

Choking back tears, Darby said the launch of his charitable foundation was an 'emotional day'.

He hopes it will raise much-need funds and awareness to help manage and even cure the condition.

Despite battling the aggressive disease, the 31-year-old was there every step of the way when his wife was fighting for World Cup glory in France this summer.

HealthThis Woman Has Been Given Just Months To Live At 26 by stellapatu(op): 7:32pm On Oct 30, 2019
A determined young woman who has been given just months to live has vowed to defy the odds and beat a rare and aggressive cancer that doctors say is terminal.

Cairns real estate agent Lisa Griffiths, 26, was given the crushing news earlier this week that the seven tumours found on her lungs in July had spread to her brain.

Four years ago, she bravely fought and won a battle with brain cancer, but this time her only realistic hope of survival is to find other treatment abroad.'When I was first diagnosed at 22 they gave me a year [to live] and I survived,' Ms Griffiths told Daily Mail Australia.

'The diagnosis is devastating but I'm not going to accept it.'

The young realtor is due to travel to Mexico - where she will be given a course of medication not yet available in Australia.

Ms Griffiths, who says her cancer is so rare there isn't another patient nationally who has her strain, doesn't know how long she will need treatment.

'I'm on a targeted therapy drug at the moment which makes you very tired a lot of the time,' she said.

As well as suffering from fatigue, the young woman is seeing her hair start to turn white under the stress of her condition. She is suffering from a form of primary intracranial lesion; an abnormal brain tissue growth which scientists say results in death within five years for two thirds of sufferers.

After her previous four-year battle with cancer, the young woman had to learn to walk again and suffered with memory loss and speech difficulties.

Her close friend and co-worker Megs Whiteside said the cost of the treatment in Mexico could reach as much as $150,000 or even beyond that.

'I've already spent $250,000 of my own money,' Ms Griffiths said. 'I need to explore all the avenues through the private system.

'If I was in the public system I'd be dead.'

EventsA Woman Jailed For 'pulling A Gun In Self Defense' And Forced To Give Birth Alon by stellapatu(op): 7:21pm On Oct 30, 2019
A Detroit activist who was forced to give birth in jail last year after she was sentenced to two years in prison for brandishing a registered, unloaded firearm to defend herself could be heading back behind bars once again as prosecutors seek a new trial after her original conviction was overturned.

Siwatu-Salama Ra, 28, a mother-of-two, was convicted in 2018 for waiving the firearm at a three-time felon, who, she said, rammed her car and started making threats towards her family outside her home.

Seven months pregnant at the time of her sentencing, Ra was handed a mandatory two-year prison term, despite being a registered gun owner, living in a ‘Stand your Ground’ state and having no prior criminal record.

Ra recalled for the Reno Gazette Journal the horror she endured giving birth at the Huron Valley Correctional Facility, shackled to a bed as officers stood near-by laughing and playing on their phones, after an appeal to delay her sentence until after she’d given birth was denied.‘No woman should have to sit and bear the pain of giving birth alone while officers laugh and chuckle and play on their phones while you’re trying to bring life into this world,’ she said.

Long maintaining the incident was an act of self-defense, an appeals court threw out Ra's conviction in August, calling her actions ‘reasonable’, with her attorney claiming her trial was littered with a ‘parade of errors’ from the beginning.

But on Friday, Ra’s nightmare was reignited when she appeared in Wayne County Court, tears dripping from her eyes, to the news prosecutors will be re-trying her on assault and gun charges.

‘It felt like they just wanted to punish me more,’ Ra, a co-executive director of an environmental justice group who represented Detroit at the Paris Climate talks, said outside the court.

HealthFamily Of A Woman, 48, Who Bled To Death After A Dentist Pulled Out Ten Of Her T by stellapatu(op): 11:37am On Oct 28, 2019
The family of a woman who bled to death after a dentist pulled out ten of her teeth have slammed the short ban he was given.

Magzine Gordon, 48, died after dentist Tushar Patel removed all her top teeth in two sessions in the same week.

She told him she took blood-thinning medication - but he failed to carry out the required risk assessment, and last week he was banned for a year.

Magzine's care was described as a 'catalogue of errors' in a medical standards report earlier this week.

Speaking out for the first time, her devastated family said: 'He might be a dentist again next year, whereas we will be without Magzine forever.'Her sister Dawn Boatswain told how she was an LGBT activist and charity volunteer, as well as a dedicated policy adviser for the DWP, advocating for disadvantaged people.

Dawn, a Network Rail manager from Northampton, said: 'It was extremely hard for us all and yes, we do have anger and pain.

'But the worst thing for us was how at the inquest never once did he (Dr Patel) make eye contact with us or come over to say sorry.

'No apology will bring her back but he has never apologised to us.

'He did not consider her long term health when treating Magzine and didn't provide her with even a basic level of care.

'I will never forgive him.'

Patel was a dentist at Confidential Clinics in Purley, Surrey and treated the woman in the summer of 2017, extracting five of the patient's teeth on July 13 and five teeth on July 18.

A single mother-of-three is proudly showing off her new look after spending a whopping $30,000 on plastic surgery to look like Meghan Markle.

Xochytl 'Xochi' Greer, a 36-year-old lawyer from Houston, Texas, documented her transformation on ABC News' Nightline as she underwent liposuction, fat grafting, and rhinoplasty in the hopes of resembling the Duchess of Sussex and ultimately bettering her life.

'I think she’s a beautiful woman, and, as I’m changing the features that I have, yes, I want those features to more resemble Meghan,' she said before she went under the knife.

Greer loves watching Markle play corporate lawyer Rachel Zane in old episodes of the legal drama Suits, and she said she is often told that she resembles the actress turned royal.

'I take that as a huge amazing compliment because she’s a gorgeous woman,' she said. 'That has kind of helped inspire me and triggered how I knew what I wanted to do.'

Greer sought out the help of Dr. Franklin Rose, a well-known plastic surgeon in Houston who has made headlines for taking on similar transformations.

Last year, Dr. Rose performed surgery on Jenny Stuart and Sarah Schmidt to make them look more like Ivanka Trump.

Greer hoped that the head-to-toe makeover would turn her life around after feeling plagued with insecurity.

'My body has changed since having another child. My self-esteem was just lower because the way things went with the father of my child,' she explained. 'I am hoping that this will give me something that I need to get back out there.'

The mom admitted that she had a 'very hard time talking to men in a non-friendship manner,' and she believed going under the knife would be a boost to her confidence.

'The plastic surgery just helps to give me more self-confidence on my outward appearance while I am fixing my inward appearance, you know, privately through therapy and things,' she said.

The day before her surgery, Greer stripped down to her bra and underwear so Dr. Rose could examine her, and the consultation was documented by Nightline.

'We’re going to soften the nose. It’s a pretty nose, really. We’ll get it a little bit more like Meghan Markle,' the doctor told his patient. 'We’re going to make two baby incisions so you get rid of all this baby fat.'

EventsOh, How Stephen Gately Died In Husband's Arms - And The Horrific Moment He Reali by stellapatu(op): 12:37pm On Oct 25, 2019
Stephen Gately was happier than he'd ever been in October 2009.

Boyzone had just reunited and finished their Back Again... No Matter What Tour, with work on their fourth studio album, Brother, already underway.

And he and his partner, internet tycoon Andrew Cowles, had just arrived at their £1million apartment in the upmarket Majorca resort of Port d'Andratx, for a month-long working holiday.

On the evening of Saturday, October 9, 2009, they finished decorating the flat ready for the arrival of friends and family and were looking forward to a quiet night in.

Speaking to The Mirror at the time, a neighbour recalled, “I spoke to them on the Saturday evening and they said they were just going to chill out at home.“Stephen said he was tired and was on a health kick, so he was staying off alcohol during his holiday."

But something must have changed their minds and the couple instead headed for dinner and drinks in the nearby city of Palma.

The next afternoon, Stephen was found dead on the sofa.

He had suffered 'acute' pulmonary oedema - or fluid on the lungs - caused by an undiagnosed heart condition.

The pathology report confirmed his death was not related to drink or drugs and he'd been on good form in the days before, with his widower telling The Mirror, “I do get some comfort from knowing how happy he was that day.

“The night he died, we’d had such a good time, a lovely evening in our favourite restaurant. He was the most happy and confident he’d been in his life."

While out, they met model and student Georgi Dochey in a bar and partied at the Black Cat club before the three of them headed back to Stephen and Andrew's place at around 5.30am.

FamilyOh I’m Dying. I Want Someone To Love My Husband When I’m Gone by stellapatu(op): 12:17pm On Oct 25, 2019
I would have never expected to write a letter like this to someone I don’t know, but there’s a lot about my life no one ever expects. Living with cystic fibrosis — a progressive, terminal, genetic lung condition — for an entire lifetime, and having to face multiple double-lung transplants has given me the chance to think about life and death quite a bit. But it was love that changed my perception of the things that are important to me. It’s love that allowed me to appreciate the time I have, specifically the little amount that I’ve shared with my husband. Facing death isn’t difficult; facing death with the person I love is.

I remember the exact moment he and I met. I feel as though everyone has a wild fantasy of being swept off their feet by a gorgeous European man, but that never happens in real life. Yet here I was at a small restaurant in Hollywood called Birds, nervously waiting for my tall, blonde-haired, blue-eyed, European package to arrive. I half expected it to be a catfish situation.

Thirty minutes after our agreed meetup time, he was a no-show. I was slowly beginning to plan my exit strategy. Then like out of a 90s romantic comedy, he materialized as a large group of people crossed in front of the entryway. Wearing sunglasses, jeans, and a blue polo shirt, he made eye contact with me. I literally felt my heart skip a beat, which worried me because I was on heart medication already.

He smiled, sat down, and with his beautiful European accent said, “Hi Tree-vis.” He completely butchered my name, but I didn’t care. He could say my name however he wanted, just as long as he didn’t run when I told him more about myself, and the difficult road I was facing at the time: a second double-lung transplant. As I explained more about the things I was dealing with, he reached across the table and placed his hand on my arm to comfort me.I got my second double-lung transplant, a hurdle many people living with cystic fibrosis never survive. That milestone was followed by several more: a proposal, a marriage, and so many nights spent at home watching movies and eating spaghetti. But as we cross each threshold, I can increasingly feel in my bones that I won’t be the last person he loves in his lifetime. It started a few months ago. I just didn’t want to accept it.

As my second double-lung transplant started to fail, I understood that my version of forever wouldn’t be as long as his, but it was too painful to think about. Someday, maybe even sooner than we both hope, he will find a person to give his intense love and kind heart to again. He will cuddle up to watch TV shows with this person, like we used to do, have conversations about life, and envision the future with him, the way we had dreamed of having one together.

It was late November in Los Angeles, which is a strange time of year because the holiday spirit is in full force, yet the California sun gives no hint that winter is coming. My husband and I were gearing up to host my organ-donor’s family at our home for a late Thanksgiving dinner — a gift that is truly rare among the organ-transplant community. But prior to any celebration, we had to trek to Westwood for a follow-up visit with my transplant care team. It was a common flu-season appointment to make sure that my body was strong, healthy, and able to withstand any unexpected viruses due to anti-rejection medications that I take to suppress my immune system.
