The residents of Igbogbo Community in Igbogbo Bayeku LCDA are calling on the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to come to their aid and rescue them from the untold hardship caused by the Igbogbo road linking Ebute – Ipakodo. The road has been in this terrible state for more than 15 years. Construction work on the road began during the last administration. The road was tarred from Ebute – Ipakodo but stopped in front of the WAEC Office directly opposite the Igbogbo Cemetery. A resident of the area named Akeem Onalaja said, “the road had been in a deplorable state since I was in secondary school in 2002. I studied at Ipakodo Grammar School and ply that route to school daily for several years. The hardship faced using that road is much and sometimes, I link Ebute through Ikorodu due to the damage the road cause to cars.” Another resident disclosed that “the road is much better to access during the dry season but immediately turns into a nightmare once it rains. Some residents closer to the spot usually pack broken stones to fill the pot holes so as to reduce the troubles encountered using the road.” See more photos of the road below. Sheriff is an Instrument in the Hands of Opposition -Fayose The repeat National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party took place in Port Harcourt on 17th August 2016 despite an order from the pesidency that Sharks Stadium, the venue earlier scheduled to host the event be sealed off by men of the Nigerian Army, an obvious attempt by the APC led federal government to keep the former ruling party off balance perpetually. Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose spoke with news men after the convention at the Rivers State Old Presidential Lodge, Port Harcourt. Excerpts: Your convention still held despite what the police did, what's your reaction to the police's actions It's an unfortunate development in our history, I will term that and this period as perilous times, it's a period of sober reflection for our nation. In desperation to kill opposition, in desperation to make Nigeria one party state and am glad that most of the things I alluded to in the earlier part of this administration are gradually coming to pass that the president and the APC led government of President Buhari is a dictatorial government and they have exhibited it severally. What will be the interest of APC in the PDP business, we have to have a re-think. There is tension everywhere, in the financial industry, in the economy of our people, in all sectors, they have failed the nation and the only thing left is to kill the opposition so they can perpetuate themselves into power but tough times never last but tough people do. If Nigerians didn't give APC opportunity to govern us, it would have been another story. What happened overnight in Port Harcourt is unfortunate for our democracy, it portends no hope for this democracy and we must appreciate that PDP handed over government to APC in a celebrated democratic process built over time by the PDP. Muscling us by certain interest groups in the APC is unfortunate. Ali Modu Sheriff is an instrument in the hands of the opposition but we will leave him there over time but I know that Nigerians will recall all that I have said now and begin to measure where we are now and where we used to be. Police said they acted on court orders, what does that mean? You see if you want to act on court orders, there have been about four to five court orders in favour of Makarfi, they never acted but they know when this party is at peace, Nigerians will be emboldened to challenge them, there will be credible alternative, they want to destroy this credible alternative, the government after one year is still blaming the opposition for which most of their members served in the 16 years of PDP, it's unfortunate. They should pay attention to the dwindling economy of our country, they should pay attention to diversification, addressing this harsh economic policies. No directional position of their government, they should pay attention to all these, stand this decay and slide in the system as quickly as possible, pay attention to security instead of muscling opposition. This is cheer muscling of the opposition. A word for the delegates who has come from far and wide, their hopes have not been rekindled. I just want to encourage the PDP members, the committed PDP members who has taken time to travel from far and wide, from Sokoto, from Ibadan, from Lagos, from the East, from all walks of life, the leadership of the party shares their pain and I just want to say that they should keep hope alive, we would see light at the end of the tunnel. Likelihood of holding the convention within the next one year Since they have given them one year, within the space of one year, the life span have been extended and over time most of this legal issues would have been resolved and am sure the next thing is to hand over to a democratically elected executive, that is the joy of everybody. August 15, 2016 Re: Court Suspends PDP Convention…Our Convention still holds as scheduled Our attention has been drawn once again to another act of judicial recklessness by the Honourable Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Okon Abang of the purported suspension of the PDP National Convention holding in Port Harcourt, Rivers on Wednesday the 17 of August 2016. We wish to however state that a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt Rivers State has earlier in the day given a comprehensive Order wherein the Honourable Judge specifically ordered the PDP to proceed with the convention as scheduled without hindrance. Indeed his lordship while given the Order mandated all relevant agencies including The Police, DSS and INEC to cooperate with the Party in organizing a hitch free National Convention. You may also wish to note that the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State gave an Interlocutory Order while Justice Okon Abang, Abuja, gave an Interim Order. The Order of Port Harcourt is clearly superior and earlier in time to the Interim Order given by Justice Okon Abang. In the light of the above, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a law abiding Party is obeying the Order of the Port Harcourt, Federal High Court until set aside by any competent Court of jurisdiction. In view of the above, the 2016 Repeat National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will continue as scheduled as we welcome all Delegates, Party leaders, other critical stakeholders, INEC monitoring team and other friends of PDP to Port Harcourt, Rivers State while wishing all our members and supporters a successful National Convention. According to a Facebook user Jaafar Jafaar who shared the photos/story,a young Kano boy, 10, was left stranded after his separated parents reject him.Below is what he wrote...... ''Kano boy, 10, stranded after separated parents reject him A ten year-old-boy, simply identified as Sayyid, is roaming the streets of Kano in search of food and shelter, following the separation of his parents. The ordeal of the minor started two years ago when his mother's new husband said he would not accept "agola" (a derogatory term for a stepson) in his home. At this point the boy had no option but to go back to father, who just married a richer woman and settled in her house. Narrating his situation to Freedom Radio, a local station in Kano, Sayyid said when he returned to his father, his father's new wife also said she would not accept "agola" in her house. According to Sayyid, his father then concurred with his bride's directive and sent him away. Since then, Sayyid had no option but to wander around the city in search of food and shelter. "I join beggars to get what to eat, and I sleep anywhere I find myself," he said. "It is always difficult for me to get what to eat. My dream is to go to school and become rich so that I can buy food to people." Source: http://www.trezzyblog.com/2016/08/10-year-old-boy-abandoned-left-stranded.html
