Thedream1900: I'm glad people are commenting on the topic. What prompted me to create this topic is that we have thousands of Nigerians on F1 Visa and I always wonder where do most of these students ended up since our student status does not correlate with the pool of candidates seeking work visa such as H1b. We can only conclude that majority always end up using marriage as their last/only option to secure their green card. This type of scenerio reminds me of football in Africa, where we dominate any age based competitions but could not be found anywhere when it comes to competitions that have no age restriction. I can't blame these students because H1b route is fraught with various complexities and uncertainties, plus as humans we often take the easiest route. However, the problem with marriage in most cases is you will be tied down with someone whom you shared nothing in common but have to behave as if everything is okay. Most of these girls (in most cases) or guys (in limited cases) often rip you off of your money, body and time because your stay depends on them.
I could remember when I came in 2013 we had about 10 Nigerians in my school, but only two of us graduated as the remaining opted for marriage. Not because I too didn't want to do the same but because I had my wife back in Nigeria then. Also because I was lucky to secure funding after one year of self sponsorship.
One of the problems for Africans is that there is not much places to turn to for educational funding. Most of these asian students flooding US schools came from humble background like us but because they were able to secure loans in their various countries and have little to worry about paying tuition or daily expenses. Hence, they often graduate in higher rate and pursue their respective dreams compared to students of African descent.
What I have noticed is that once you are tied down with someone to secure your legal stay, then there is higher chance you will be abandoning your dream that brought you here in the first place. But, and I mean this, you have to do what is needed and apply Maslow's hierarchy of need, if every other door has been shut on you. That is, no more funding from home or other place. I agree with you absolutely ... I can relate well with your point. This is also some of the good things I see the proposed new green card process President Trump wants to introduced if successfully passed by the congress. Students who graduate for schools there with good grades would be given a play ground/green card (as they would be recruited by companies there instead of letting them return back to their home countries) |

Thedream1900: I don't know if there is a topic about H1B visa on this platform but I have searched and could not find one.
There is no denying the fact that both indians and chinese dominate the pool for employment based visa in the U.S., but I believe there are Nigerians pursuing this highly coveted work visa/permanent residency. I'm pursuing my American dream through this path and would like to hear/share ideas with other Nigerians with similar experience.
Thank you! Good thoughts and move bro ... I’ve always had this thought too that our smart skillful guys need to look into this route too instead of going after B2 visa and abusing it. Almost 70% of Indians in the states came in through this H1B visa for IT and Health jobs ... And from my experience with them, some of our guys are so better than some of these dudes. Our IT gurus in Naija need to look into this. |

shortboi: When I was preparing for my visa interview, I read a lot here and then realized that most people are unserious or don't know how to answer questions. This thread really help me in my preparation, am single, young and even a recent graduate. Technically I won't get the visa but I was wrong.
Let me share my transcript.
VO: where are you going to in the US VO: why are you going to the US VO: have you traveled out before Me: No VO: Are you married Me: No VO: who is paying for the trip VO: what do you do VO: How many days do you intend to stay in the US Me: 7 days VO: How is your project going VO: Can you tell me more about it VO: Who are those supporting you in the project VO: who is traveling with you Me: Just me VO: what else do you do VO: How much do you make from it VO: Your traveling date is close, you may not be able to book your flight Me: have booked my flight already VO: let me see it VO: come back and pick your passport.
This was last month, I attended the conference and am back in Nigeria already. I think we should be more conversational during our interview. Let me start by saying thank you for returning back to Nigeria and not like other dumb ass who abused the B2 visa and making it difficult for legit travelers to obtain visa now. However saying people were refused visa because they’re not too prepared or can’t be conversational is not absolutely correct |

Mancala: If you're a US citizen, why not file for her? It will only take, gave or take, about a year to get a greencard. I know from experience some of our elderly folks do not want to come sit in the U.S. for extended periods of time to fulfill the conditions of LPR, but its possible to get the residency then give it up and go back to getting visas. I know someone who did that after being denied a visiting visa several times. He got his green card then gave it up after about a year and a half. He now easily gets visiting visas. Strange isnt it? I thought about filing for her as last resort because she can’t come and liver permanently here ... I’ve not even thought about this your idea of giving up the green card after a while and then apply for visiting ... hmm that kinda makes sense. I’d give it a thought. Thanks so much |

Travel › Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by stevewale(m): 9:23pm On Apr 16, 2019 |
Obviously those interviewing officers have minds of their own and are out there to deny at will without any reasonable reasons other than taking out other previous b2 visa defaulters punishment on genuine/honest travelers.
I had to travel down to Nigeria on Friday and go with my mum to the embassy on Monday (I knew I won't be let in but just to boost my mum's morale and gave her all documents I can think of ... lolz).
Again, she was denied the second time without no cause ... she told me the woman/lady asked her just five questions and that was it.
Left Naija yesterday night and was sad all through my flight back to the states.
This embassy keeps giving the wrong folks visas and denying legit travelers or parents whose kids migrate to US legitimately ... it's such a shame. |

pipz: My mum was denied a visa last year as we were not ready to invite her then and I’d not yet been approved of my GC. My cousin invited her and the consulate denied her stating “why isn’t your son inviting you” as my cousin had filled on the DS 160 that she had a son in the US. Fast forward to late last year, we decided it’s time we invite her as we now have a baby. People advised us my wife be the one to invite her since I’m yet to be approved GC, so we decided to start processing another appointment for her but could only secure a March 2019 date for appointment. Alas, I was granted a GC without being asked any question at the interview, coming from a K1 candidate. My question now is should I go back and edit and resubmit the DS 160 so to indicate I’m the one inviting her or just leave it to be my wife inviting. Thanks and I wish everyone a blissful 2019 K1 visa is a legit visa for migration to the States ... You should have invited her yourself and state the your wife would be responsible for the expenses (probably because you aren’t working then) instead of having your cousin or wife inviting her. I’m a citizen and went through K1 too, making good 6 figures in IT field but they still denied my mum visa so I honestly don’t know what those VOs are looking at. I’d suggest you do what @seyewest suggested you make a copy of your visa page and green card so she can just display it to the VO on that glass even if he/she won’t collect or request documents from her. I’m re-inviting my mum again in few weeks time and I will come over just to escort her to the embassy (I know I won’t be let in but maybe that would boost my mum’s moral a little bit haha) photocopying my passport page and wife with kid’s own along with tax returns to give to her o. Haha we die put this time oo lolz. If it doesn’t work out this time around, then I will resort to filling for her. Guys do you think if she mentioned that I was in Nigeria 4 times last year to visit her will increase her chances? |

This is actually our first meeting and we got engaged. After that she returns to back to States. I don't know if easy for her file for fiancee visa or i should file from Nigeria. Please what should be our next step. Please guys advice me. Thanks. Yes K1 visa is your best route and faster than filling for spouse after marriage (though you’d have to get married once you get to the state). Go through the K1 visa thread for the process and you should be good |

Golden2019: My transcript for the interview had in December 2018. Went with the wife and 2 kids
Vo: Good morning I and wife: Good morning Vo: pass ur passport. We did. Vo: why are u going to US I: for family vacation Vo: where are u going in US I: Texas Vo: why Texas Wife: because we want to visit... I quickly interuppted I: because the weather in texas is not too cold as compared to other cities in US. Even quoted some temperature in different places. Vo: i want ur husband to be answering me. Vo: hv u travelled out before? I: no Vo: why is it now dt u want to visit US I: because i hv been busy being a doctor and my wife building up her fashion school. We think it is now we can visit US. Vo: repeated the question. I: went blank, repeated the same answers, cldnt even think of another tin. Vo: sorry you are not qualified for the visa. Gave us back our passport and the green paper
Please what do u guys think went wrong. In my own opinion, I don’t think Texas is one of the tourism states in US and also Texas has been floaded with so many Naija folks who came in with B2 visa and refused to return. Also you kinda contradict what your wife was about to say ... sounds like you’ve been coached on what to say before the interview ... Give it a shot another time ... Just my thoughts though. |
