Please has anyone (a citizen) here who filed for a minor child since 2019 gotten an interview date yet?

My daughter’s case has been pending with NVC for a while now waiting for an interview date.

Magnificent!

In my experience working remotely with foreign clients, I have noticed some things;

1) The Sir/Ma doesn’t cut it for them. They prefer being called by their first names. “Hello Andrew”, “Morning Ms Avery”

2) You can ask questions, but don’t ask every question. They are willing to teach, but don’t overplay it. Sometimes research and take initiative.

3) Europeans especially the Brits do not like excessive work. Just do some and leave some for the next day.

4) Americans do not mind if you work overtime. In fact, 40hrs a week is small thing in their books.

5) Don’t be moved by their niceties. A lot of times, it is just formality.

6) You don’t need the fake accent. Speak clearly and they would actually hear you. Most of them do! cheesy

7) They are huge on efficiency. You think you are working in Nigeria? Try working with a foreigner and you would know why you friends abroad are stingy. You work for every dollar.

8- Americans pay the best most times.

9) Avoid Asians. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, whatever. Just avoid them if you can.

10) They know Nigeria. They have heard the good and of course the BAD! If you are nice to them, they open up. The first step is to start asking questions about Nigeria.

You say it all! Absolutely correct!

That is the thing is both me and my spouse are jobless and out of business right now. The only available funds now is what I want to use to relocate to UK with my family, that way my spouse can work full time while I study, my spouse has a masters already from UK.

Nigeria is so unstable now to risk involving the funds into any business say for the next one year while waiting for NVC. But reading you comments about “easier to get a job with US education than that of UK” now i am wondering if it’s advisable for both of us to have UK certificates since we hope to move to the US finally OR waiting it out here in Nigeria would be the best.

Hopefully my response isn’t late and still helpful.

In most cases, US jobs isn’t crazy/freak about educational certificates like that of Naija. They’re more after how many years of experience you’ve got under your belt and what you can do.

While it’s very okay to study in their own schools, it’s never a deal breaker. It’s even easier and better to get a certificate from a UK based college than that of Naija because after employment offer, to verify education from these Naija schools na wahala.

Note: it may depend on the type of profession you’re looking at. But I know this for sure that in the Tech industry, they mostly don’t care. I’m a manager who recruit for my team and mostly don’t give a hoot about where you get your degree or your certifications from as far as you have good skills with hands on experience and do great in the technical interview, you’d get the role and make nice 6 figures.

Happy New Year everyone and hope you all had great holidays?

Any idea on how long it usually takes to get green card mailed over?

My mum’s SSN card came in two weeks after she got here but it’s like a month and some days now that she arrived and no sign of the green card yet.

Please what’s your own process like?

The whole world is short staffed. Over here in the U.S, companies are raising pays just to get people. Its now a stiff competition of who pays more. A lot of deaths last year globally. Up to the people that remove snow off the roads, school bus drivers, everywhere right now is short staffed. Covid really shook the world and still shaking everywhere till date. I am considered an essential worker because i work with a pharmaceutical company.. we ship medications to hospital all over U.S.... For more than 3months we had to work 12hrs straight every day because we were short staffed. Every day, associates were quiting in large numbers,, because they were under paid. According to people for the amount of work we put in everyday and the number of hours, $19 an hr is too small cos right now most retail companies are paying upto
$23 an hour. If they don't raise our pay again, more people will start quiting all over again. I hope it doesn't get to that,, because working 12hrs and taking care of 3kids is no joke, driving to school and to and back from work on the Freeway. Smh! May God help us. American life no be joke ooo. Here na serious hussle. Now I understand what people living abroad say. The only difference is that here you work hard and see what you are working for, unlike in naija. I pray for everyone going through their Visa Journey. A lot has changed now compared to when we were going through our own VISA JOURNEY. Most times I have to read through just to see how things are done now. With all that is going on, in naija, excessive kidnapping, and all. Its sad sometimes reading the news, even about the young Nigerian boy that was bullied and killed in boarding house. It was such a sad case... and I hope the perpetrators don't get away with it. The decay is so bad now, even among teenagers. May God continue to help his Children.
I am glad I am able to pop in once in a while and read through this amazing thread and see a lot of people being encouraged through their Visa Journey. Its hard when you have to wait for so long to reunite with your loved ones, but be rest assured it is worth the wait, cos people wey no get their paper for here na problem ooo. They go through a lot and they have to settle for less. No joke.

You nailed it 100% …

Even in the IT/Tech industry, we’re all feeling the “short staffed” heat. My team keeps getting shrinked every time and have been trying to staff some key roles but talents are scarce… govt sectors aren’t exempted as well.

God bless your hustles

My mum will be traveling to US next week. Please did your mum undergo covid-19 test in Nigeria before boarding or was she quarantined in US? I want to know if there's a process as regard covid-19 or Omicron. Thanks

Sorry for late response.

Yes she did a covid test a day before her trip and no quarantine.

Your mum can do test same day she’s living as far as she get it done before 11am, I think the results will be out same day.

Currently, no quarantine requirements in US other than that the covid test must be done at most a day before the person boards plane.

I truly appreciate your guidance as well as others here.

She arrived here yesterday (Wednesday) morning and no issues with customs at all … I didn’t even let her carry any food stuffs or check any bags in other than her carry on cos I don’t want any customs queries for her lolz smiley

Having her here is a dream come true for me.

Good luck to others too.

Again, this is to say a thanks for your advice here.

My mum went there on Monday and you were right; the visa was there. I booked her ticket immediately for same Monday but unfortunately her covid test results didn’t come out so I rescheduled her for Tuesday and as I write this, she’s on her way to USA and will be receiving her shortly.

I’m worried about the Omicron as I don’t want her to spend any more weeks or months in Naija smiley

I wish everyone still waiting a good luck and speed IJN

Good day everyone.

Please did anyone have an idea of how long it takes for passport to be ready for pick up at GCC Collection Center, VI after the status showed “Issued” since Nov 18th. … My mum didn’t get a text message from DHL neither did I receive any email from them stating that it’s ready for pickup?

I’m planning to have my mum travel end of next week. Do you advise to just go to their office on Monday to check? She’s staying out of Lagos.

Thanks for your advice

You need to upload 2020 transcript and let her take it along for the interview.

Thanks so much. I truly appreciate your response and time.

Please I have a another question

Do you or anyone else know if I can be allowed to go in with her as I plan to come for this purpose. This is because she was denied visiting visa twice earlier before now when I invited her; so I had to change my my and filed/petition for her.

Note: My mum is in her late 50s

She can go for medicals from now so that the result can get to embassy on time also,no need for new police clearance as the one she has is valid for 2yrs.She should do attestation of age at any close National Population commission .The petitioner should provide recent tax transcript 2020 and if there is any change in the info given on i864 form like increase in tge income of the petitioner she can fill a new one to reflect the new changes

Many thanks for your response.

I uploaded my 2019 tax returns since I filled the NVC form last year. Do you think I should still send the 2020 or just the one I uploaded to the NVC site?

Hi guys,

I got my mum's interview date mail today. Her interview is scheduled for 2nd week in November (next month).

Please I have few questions, how soon is the best time to have her go for her medicals and any idea what the current cost is?

Her police character certificate was received/completed in August 2020 (last year), is this still valid or she needs a new one?

Other than the i-864 affidavit of support forms and original copy of her case approval letter, please is there any other documents I need to send to her from my end?

Thanks for your help with these info.

No US is not like Nigeria that change policies on a whim .Nigeria must fulfill those conditions they set out even if it takes Nigeria 5 years.Trump with his position could not even remove the ban Obama placed on Russia.America is more about the system already in place and not individual show of power

Gbam! I wish the folks thinking this would be flipped over night have this clue.

Well, we’d see what Joe plans to do since he once made a promise/campaign that he would lift the ban on the 7 countries Trump administration placed ban on within 30/100 days of being elected ... fingers crossed

So now that Joe Biden has won the USA presidential election, when he finally gets in next year, does that mean the US embassy would start issuing more visas than denials? I’m just curious with the way some immigrants or Nigerians are so happy he won ... lolz
