But the moment borders were close and the local rice became the only available commodity, prices went up. What does that tells you? It means the profit is now multiple. Inverted hammer, while I agree with your thesis, the fact is, if GEJ had been allowed to increase fuel prices from 65 naira to 140 naira in 2012, we would have been reaping the fruits of more refineries, more investment and more jobs by now.

Instead, Nigerians protests led to GEJ partly emptying our reserves to keep fuel at 97 then 87 naira.

Buhari is doing the same thing.

The truth is, subsidy or underrecovery has to go. In exchange for high prices, we get functional refineries, and with the added bit of privatizing NNPC, we get more investment and jobs, and eventually low petrol prices

I don't like GEJ, but on subsidy removal, he was right. APC is doing something partially that should have been done totally so to speak in 2012.
