Goodluck Jonathan's campaign managers today assembled some news editors
at the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja and doled out N200,000 each in N500 denominations; to go with the cash is a Samsung Galaxy Tab and a pack of lapels.
The largesse was doled out to the editors from room 804 of the hotel at about 2pm today 6th April 2011.

But my concern is the country itself, the political and economic devastation inflicted on the people because of personal ambitions. Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State Senator James John Udoedehe was yesterday flown by a helicopter from Abuja to Uyo.

The ACN has raised the alarm over his safety.

Udoedehe was rearrested last Thursday after Justice Adamu Bello of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, granted him bail.

I saw what happened at the town hall meeting in Ake as an exercise in self-exposure by Daniel, the governor of that state. What happened was clear and did not require any further comment from me. It was quite clear. You saw two groups of Daniel-paid thugs, some nicely dressed, but it was clear what they were anyway. They were people whom in many ways I pity as thugs. I don’t often feel superior to people, but I think I was on that day. I just saw myself as infinitely superior to the minions of Daniel. And we have a proverb in Yoruba, which says ‘ti won ba ran eniyan ni ise eru, a fi ti omo je’ (a knotty message requires diplomacy). And the servants of the governor who were there on that day proved themselves not only omo eru (slaves) but incapable of transcending the ranking they have been given by their paymaster.
Also, I had made up my mind from the beginning that it was a very poorly schooled individual behind it, who needed to be taught freedom of expression in many avenues. I sent a message to him (Daniel) afterwards that ‘he wants immortality’ but I will immortalise him. I have sort of gone outside to the environment even though I was trying to keep in control of the environment. I see those people as zombies. A number of times, I was tempted to call in the police to say end of meeting. But I was determined that the meeting would hold until I was ready to end it. Every single rubbish that was said by some of those people was a comment, a self-exposure of Governor Daniel and what he is doing?

What interests me right now is to let people understand their interests. When I see people being humiliated, then I am humiliated because I don’t like people to be humiliated. Look at what is happening at the Ogun State House of Assembly. Many of them rigged themselves in, but that is not the issue. One sometimes wonders what other people are made of. Don’t they feel this sense of humiliation? How can they accept this act of contempt from an ordinary mediocre citizen who was rigged into office to preside on their affairs? I think, critically, my problem is that I have the genes of a teacher (the son of a headmaster). I think I have a compulsion to teach. It is a citizen’s responsibility. I have not quite thought it out myself. Why did I form, for instance, a political party or rather, why did I back those who wanted to form a political party? I did so because I saw in it a possible instrument of gradual transformation of human beings. It is letting people know that there are many ways to skin a cat; it doesn’t have to be through violence. It is to make them question the system, it is not to encourage them to be part of the system. It is to let them see this as an additional way to effect a change. It is to encourage them to insert a thin wedge in the rotten system, which will widen the aperture for others of like minds to form their own party or group for the salvation of their own dignity.
I don’t have to sit among people who are less than human. I would rather be happier to be in the forest, at least, doing my usual hunting there. I don’t feel personally involved with life in the bush beyond trying to put animals in the cooking pot. I sometimes like to define my own motivations. The only way I can sum it up is that I like to be among human beings and human beings, to me, are defined only by expression and demonstration of self-worth and by assertion of their own dignity.

Benue will not go to PDP. Akume holds the aces and he is currently in ACN while Suswam has been like a drunken sailor fisherman. Recently, many ACN chieftains in Benue State, were invited by the police for discussions on the political situation. Audu Ogbeh, Akume(the immediate past governor), Saror and many big wigs are currently in ACN.

Also, many commentators don't unerstand the politics of Benue State. It is about the man on ground, the one they know and that man is Akume, a man whose political philosophy is like that of Tinubu.

My observation: The political situation as currently obtained in Ogun State does not in any say imply or suggest that PDP will overrun the opposition. The same sentiments that got in the PDP in 2003 is now prevalent and the wish of the larger majority of the voters is to oust them. Beyond that is the issue of OGD, who though in PDP is supporting the PPN, thus you have a fragmented PDP, facing a more formidable ACN that daily garners more supporters. Also, there is the recently emerging Labour Party in the Ijebu area led by Jide Awosedo and Senator Lekan Mustapha. Lekan Mustapha is holds sway in the Ijebu North area.

What pro-GEJ people have exhibited on this forum is a naked fear for the CHANGE we all clamour for, the FRESH air we all crave. It is the fear of the of new policies affecting our lives and businesses, governance unusual.

Have a re-think on Obasanjo, his policies were good for the country at that time. What he essentally did was to guide our democracy, nurture it, create an environment of believability for Nigeria to benefit from global alliances. His Excess Crude Oil account strenthened the naira, with over $40b in foreign reserves. Today, the entire thing has been depleted. EFCC got more convictions than the lame/feeble attempt at battling corruption afterwards

Politics should not thrive on sentiments but factual projections. We are all aware of the shortcomings of our political leadrship, particularly the Pdp, which is described as not a political party but a collection of interests out to loot the treasury. Are you saying Jonathan is not part of these ravenous lot?

How far will luck take Nigeria without a clear cut road-map on overcoming the numerous developmental challenges(actually deficiencies) facing the country.

Let's also try an hypothetical case here: If Nigeria were to be experience a quake of the magnitude of Japan with an attendant tsunami, don't you think the current leadership will only come up with a 'fast and pray' admonition? I don't want to assume that JEJ is clueless, but his propositions on solving Nigeria's problems does not evoke much confidence .

Will you pls throw more light on why you think GEJ and PDP are the best for the country now and in the next four years or am I missing something? I live in Nigeria and honestly much as I appreciate robust, varied and stimulating political discussions, I am YET to see any on Nairaland in regards to the merits of a Jonathan presidency or the PDP as a party.
