LOL @ WE ARE ALL F/U/C/K/E/D

I understand your worries, but i think everything will be just fine. Like i said, the ordinary masses won't be able to tell the difference between an oil based economy and a non-oil based one. All they want are the very basic amenities which other sectors than help to provide.

I think our obsession with oil have made Nigerian leaders and follows to be a mentally lazy bunch.

I disagree. Who is gonna build the roads? You know that "evisceration" Aigbofa is talking about, whos gonna teach him how to spell it? What about Security, you think they are bad now? Wait, we will be worse that Haiti.

The truth is that a non-oil economy is the best for us, better if we have both obviously, but we are no Germany, and we are not as hardworking. We dont have any technology to sell to the rest of the world. Mechanized agriculture is great, that is if we are the food basket to the rest of the world, as of now, we cant even feed ourselves. We are a net importer of food. I dont know of any sensible investor that would be willing to invest in an economy that cant even cater for her own domestic need. Our manufacturing sector s/u/c/k/s; Ajaokuta has remained dormant for how many years now? I can go on, but I am sure you get the point.

If that "oyel" dries up, oh mehn, grin grin grin grin we are f/u/c/k/e/d, because we really cant do shyt.

Oil will become less and less central to our GDP as the economy is diversified. It will not dry suddenly and "F/U/C/K" Nigeria up. It will go the same way it came - Gradually.

ekt_bear: Lol.

So a little puzzle for you, o thou dimwitted Fstranger.

Here are some facts:
a) The non-oil sector is ~60% or so of Nigeria's economy. Roughly that order of magnitude.
b) Nigeria has averaged, what, 7-8% GDP growth over the past 4-5 years?
c) During that same time period, the oil sector of the economy has been flat.
d) You claim that the only non-oil part of the economy that has grown is telecoms.

So how big is the telecoms sector as a fraction of Nigeria's economy? 30%? cheesy 40% cheesy

I guess everyone in Nigeria either is in the oil business or selling recharge cards grin grin grin

This is the problem when people who don't reason well start trying to figure out policy.

Stick to whatever you are good at...leave this for others to handle, my numerically illiterate friend.

Says who?

Initial capital can come from the same place it came from for Dubai, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, and for pretty much everybody else...investors who want to make money because you've presented them with a mutually beneficial opportunity.

This is all nice and dandy on paper. The problem is nothing gets done on paper. Reality is far grimmer that what you wrote up there.

Have you even looked at Nigeria's GDP data before you concluded that anyone is fvcked? You do realize that most of the growth over the past 5 years in the economy has been the non-oil sector? That the oil sector is flat? And for obvious reasons, will be flat going forward (at least, there are limits to how much it can grow)?

What non-oil sector? From your father's backyard farm. grin grin grin grin grin I have the data. The only non-oil sector that is doing well is Telecoms. GDP is going up, unemployment is going up as well, does that tell you anything?

Look without oil, WE ARE ALL f/u/c/k/e/d!

When did constructive criticism from opposition parties become something to be feared? I thought Opposition parties aim to: contribute to the creation of policy and legislation through constructive criticism, No? They are NO enemies.

If you are sure of your plan, publish it and expose it. After all, it still has to go through the house. Hope they are not planning to SECRETLY pass it through the house.

It may not be criticisms that is preventing them sharing the plan. It may be to prevent enemies from acting against the plan to protect their own self-serving interests. It may even be that they haven't finished finalizing the plan; in which case, you can accuse them of acting too slowly.

Like how the GOP is fighting Obamacare? So the 26 states fighting Obamacare are the enemies of Obama and his plans? I guess to you the GOP is fighting Obamacare because they are Obama's enemy, not because Obamacare is unconstitutional and fiscally irresponsible?

ekt_bear: In 1999,2000 or so, Tinubu found a foreign partner (Enron) to supply electricity for Lagos State.

This is just 1-2 years after Nigeria was in a military dictatorship, mind you.

Why was Enron interested? To make money!

You need to learn more about ENRON and their interest in Nigeria. It has nothing to do with making money. It was all about fooling investors. They knew the Nigerian project was a failure. Why did they hand over the project to Merrill Lynch for five months? There is a reason why Obasanjo railed against Enron .

Vodafone didn't invest in Nigeria because they couldn't get the licence for free...

You may use MTN's success as a yardstick - but that hasn't enticed big mobile network companies like Tmobile, three, verizon etc. to invest in Nigeria. The bulk of the phone service companies in Nigeria are still from the middle east and asia - why is that?

That is factually inaccurate. Vodafone was outbid by MTN and Econet.

Nigerian leaders are known for putting self-interest above communal interest. Perhaps he is concerned about how the breakup of Nigeria will affect him and has decided to use that opportunity to send a message to the North.

Haba! Alhaji Chukwuma, You don't have to do this. Ti e ba fe ka'we e lanu e soro.

You don't have to concoct tales and conspiracy theories just because you want the document. Ask nicely.

The plan for an all-encompassing SW regional development is not a secret and you know that. Many stakeholders have expressed this in the press, they've even called press conferences and public conventions. Even SS people already planned theirs. It's not an Aregbesola plan, he's not the only one in SW leadership and far as I know.

E de se suru.

I knew you'd post something that would somehow be in agreement with Katsumoto's post. Its about time you and the other folks here on NL stopped guzzling the once venerable but now discredited Katsumoto kool aid.

Let them publish their so called plan if they are not hiding anything. Is that too much to ask for in a democracy?

How does the fact that the book is secret translate into an Islamic agenda?

If they are not willing to tell us what the book contains, aren't we free to ascribe whatever to the content of the book?

Only mischief makers will try to link the Homer's iliad to Al qaeda (yes, they are completely unrelated).

The Iliad By Homer Written 800 B.C.E, al-Qaeda ( a global militant Islamist organization) founded by Osama bin Laden sometime in August 1988 and Aregbesola, a degenerate, thoughtless, low-class, incoherent, HND graduate of Ibadan Poly . . . in the same context? Only Katsumoto can pull this off.

In military and business strategy, leaders sometimes decide not to share their strategy because doing so may affect its successful implementation. Implementation of strategy is just as important as strategy formulation.

I guess this line is relevant because business leaders and military strategists, like ELECTED State Governors, are accountable to their electorate. Here I am thinking Wall Street CEOs are only accountable to their share-holders & bottomline . . . Hmmmm, learning new stuff everyday. Long live Katsumoto. Long Live the smartest NL'er.

Those who are not stakeholders have no need to read the book, they just need to witness as it is implemented.

You are right, the people that voted him in arent stake-holders and they have no need to read the so called "terrorist manifesto." WHat the heck, some of them cant even read anyway. They are just there to vote , sit back and watch Aregbesola and the other all-knowing gods of SW plunge their states into debt and chaos secondary to thoughtless planning & irresponsible fiscal policy.

And for real, Osun state has got several remote villages, using Ile ife as an example, there are more than 10 remote villages far from ife town itself. Some of the roads to villages like arode, aye-Coker and fasina do not even have good roads, you will need a SUV or okada to get there after travelling about 1hour from ife town itself. Some remote villages even share boundaries with Ijebu in Ogun state. The waka go plenty for the children no be small.
Why are you talking about Ife, the whole damn state is one huge village.

What I have come to realise is most of the pro-aregbe on NL don't live in Osun state so I don't take them serious. Aregbe is human, he can make mistakes but to pro aregbe, he is the messiah of Osun state just because he is a member of ACN.

I agree. Gbawe knows next to nothing about Osun. The only reason he praises Aregbe is because his brother became a senator, unfairly, on the platform of ACN.
