Such scammers would remotely activate “Call Divert” and/or “Call forwarding” on the victim’s line without his or her notice, and make the receiving numbers to be theirs.
They may even activate the same thing for “SMS Divert” and/or “SMS Forwarding” too.

Once they attempt a change of password of any account which has the diverted/forwarded phone-number as its security phone-number, then the “Password Reset Code” would now be sent to the scammer’s phone-number instead of the original phone-number of the authentic owner of the account.

If you see any diverting/forwarding that is active on your phone-number,, you need to cancel all forms of divert..
