missjekyll: As at yesterday out of 4000 British Citizens who have reached out to be evacuated, only 536 had been evacuated, 3500 left behind to the tender mercies of other countries. We have to beg for space on other countries planes. We should be airlifting them together with their families before ceasefire ended which is what other countries are doing but we failed them. Mehn Unthinkable things are now commonplace under the Tories. We are now once again the sick man of Europe. Terrible One thing I like about the United States is they will never leave a citizen behind, they don’t care if the citizen has 5 other passports but they will try their best to bring their citizens home, we all know tories are racist and will continuously prioritize white skin over black and brown |

I have a lot of relatives there, so accommodation or feeding wasn't an issue. One day i will visit but i rather move back to Nigeria than USA Yup I don’t think I can live in the us, too many Wahala |

AKALAMAGBO: You are right anyways. I never rated UK right from my younger age and UK wasn’t part of the countries I was interested in settling in and still isn’t even though I am here right now. Being here was just a circumstance of failure in securing both USA & Canada visa (I’m sure its same for few folks here), and when the opportunity surface itself I will still move out…. I’ve spent about a year and half here, my perception about UK hasn’t changed…
UK is overrated, nothing much really. Not to be offensive but I don’t really understand why people pick Canada over the uk, Canada weather is shit, the time difference to family and friends back home is crazy, the tax rate for earnings is not crazy different from the uk, still the same long wait time for medical procedures, exchange rate to the pounds is very poor and traveling from Canada to other countries for vacation is more expensive and stressful. Asides fast track to citizenship I don’t see why Nigerians want to move from uk to Canada, I can understand US but Canada confuses me. |

My slips reads above 20hrs… just about 2 slips.. can I upload it along side the remaining slips ? What’s the way forward. Also I’m not sure I’m reading it right, but just to be correct about my eligibility. Am I eligible as a studnt on Tier 2 visa, who has worked in a healthcare role for more than 6months?
Thank you. Do not share that payslip that says above 20 hours, please o |

Freedom is such a sweet thing and it helps people to develop at their own pace and strength. You seems to have forgotten what prompted the fast tracking of that Brexit? The 'must' decisions taken by Europe to share Refugees & illegal crossers from Libya to Italy & Spain.

Phayie: 800x12= 9,600
Earning like 900-1k monthly will give you about 12k? I mean if you work more than 20 hours you’ll definitely pass the tax free threshold |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Strata1716: 11:01am On Apr 12, 2023 |
Phayie: Yes it's very possible to work more than 20hrs in a week but it's a 50/50 thing. The VO might not notice it if u do it with sense ( don't exceed the £12k plus tax free) once the VO discover you work more than the tax free amount, then there might be a thorough check on your 20hrs compliance. Please note that it's 50/50 thing and I won't encourage you to do it I really don’t think it’s possible not to exceed the tax free amount because 20 hours will most likely give you £800 p/m and I don’t think there’s any job that will pay you just £300 so you can remain tax free. |

Was he depressed when he was over working?
Didn't he explain the situation to his family that it's better to wait until hes done with sch and he can then work and send even more? I don't understand his situation but the future cost should have been calculated before trying such
I remember Just wise from the student thread issuing warnings about overworking but he was constantly insulted even though he was just trying to help
Deed is done though and he can apply and still get it. I know a couple of people who over worked and still got their PSW
All the best to your friend He showed me messages of him appealing to his family to give him some time to settle and that things are not financially okay with him but they stopped speaking to him and called him ungrateful and wicked as they thought he had money but wants to abandon them now that he has traveled out. We are all just trying to help him now so he doesn’t get deported |

Why would a student in the UK (on restricted working visa, be paying fees for people in Nigeria)....... This sends all sort of wrong messages.......
It's time he informed those in Nigeria, that the yam they made him plant....... Is about to get harvested......
Never put the cart before the horse & never shut the stable doors, when the horse already bolted out ...... He doesn’t know how to say no to his family ☹️ |

Good morning everyone,
please my friend unfortunately had to work more than 20 hours because the bills were too much and he’s also the first child of the family so he had to pay siblings school fees and take care of his family back home in Nigeria.
He only started Working 34 hours after lectures was over and they were writing dissertation as he had exhausted every savings so needed money badly, It’s time for psw but he’s scared of doing the Visa because he doesn’t want to be caught and deported.
I’ve told him to try his luck and see what happens but he’s saying he doesn’t want to risk it, please is there any way for him to explain to the VO maybe in a cover letter or something else why he had to work those hours,
is it a bit better that he started working past 20 hours after lectures but during dissertation writing, can he also get a care sponsorship job as it is 2 months before the expiration of his visa and he’s been trying for weeks to get a care job but no luck.
Please don’t ignore as all advise are welcomed and my friend is very depressed now, we are trying to help but scared he might unalive himself because the financial pressure of going back to Nigeria might be too much. |

heroshark: Hello Mentors,
I got an offer with a top Engineering and Management consulting firm, with a start date of 11th September 2023.
They said they need to switch me to a skilled worker visa prior to my starting date.
I just got a mail this morning, to submit all the necessary documents, that they will proceed with the visa application immediately.
I started my MSc last year September so I will be graduating this September which is still 7-8months ahead.
My question are: 1) Should I proceed with the application now or wait till closer to my course end date ?
2) They said they will cover the cost of visa fee but I'm expected to pay the IHS fee myself which is currently £625 x no of years ( however, they included a caveat that if I should inform them if I can't afford it) should I go ahead and informed them that I cannot afford it, will they offer to pay it on my behalf ?
3) My current student visa will expire 30th January 2024, which means I still have about 1year of IHS surcharge left. Will this be transferred or can I claim it back? Please I believe you should proceed with the application now as that is the end goal and it takes some time to process this visa From my experience they’ll deduct the amount from your salary over a period of time if you cannot afford it |

Its more or less like an Au-pair program which allows people legally earn below minimum wage. I would have posted the link but i dont want nairaland axe but below is a snapshot of what the average earning of aupairs look like - feel free to verify if you want. There are people who are actually looking for opportunities like this, may seem exploitative on the outside but this is certainly not the intent. Plus i really cannot afford a full time nanny hence i am going for this. THe only reason i am not going via an aupair agencies is because the earliest they say they could get someone was in May but i want someone quicker. Until someone reports you to the home office for slavery and exploitation |

geekseventplace: Hello friends,
I am looking for an immigrant in UK who is ready to take a job as a full time nanny for my two kids. Accomodation, feeding, utilites, internet, phone bills will be all taken care of. Monthly pay is 400-500£ depending on a few other details. The lady/woman should be less than 50 yrs and already residing in the UK. Location is Basildon in Essex. If interested, send me a message to naijanannysearch@gmail.com My friend did something like this but it was more like babysitting a child in exchange for rent, Few weeks later the landlady and mother expected her to clean their house, provide companionship and chat with her etc and started complaining about every little thing. My advise is please avoid this arrangement because you’re definitely going to do more than a nanny and the poster will feel like they’re doing you a favour + heap unrealistic expectations on you. For your own sanity and peace, avoid this because you’ll work and do more than everything the OP is offering |

This country is really not easy, was having a conversation with a friend and we were arguing about NHS roles.
The gist of the argument was if it is possible for a foreigner (Nigerian) on a student visa to get an operational manager band 8a sponsorship role with no NHS experience and only 7-8 years Nigerian non health care operational experience.
I was of the opinion that chances are extremely slim but my friend swore that is is very possible and she has seen cases of this, I don’t know what to believe because the stories I’ve heard is that it’s not possible and for people not to bother applying to band 8a roles. I really want to know if it’s true so I thought to bring it here to seek advise from people more experienced in this journey.
Please, I will really appreciate your thoughts as the thinking that one won’t get a band 8a role has really discouraged a lot of people I know from applying. |

mizGene: Amarathripple had a recommendation, I'm sure she will respond.. but I used theknowledgeacademy it was listed at close to 2k (with Practitioner) but once you indicate interest and they call you, you can negotiate it to 800 pounds. They will pretend they can't do it, keep you on the call "to ask their manager" for approval for a discount.. then they will make you an offer. But make sure to get them down to 800 at most. Thank you |

Amarathripple0: The certificate is a plus, a lot of companies love it when candidates have PM certificates. However, the certificate is not enough. While skills are transferable, you need the actual PM knowledge and experience to scale through the interview process because the questions asked would be targeted towards projects you have worked on, how you handled conflict, methodologies you use, PM tools you use etc. Some companies would even ask you to do a presentation on a project you managed from start to finish.
If you don’t have any PM experience, my advice on how to scale the interview process would be to tailor your response in a way that a PM would. Imagine yourself as the one who managed the project’s lifecycle from start to finish including the team, budget etc. Also use PM buzz words like stakeholder, baseline, project sponsor, risk assessment, highlight report, impact analysis, change control, scope, etc. (don’t overdo this though).
You should also google Project Management interview questions and how to answer them. (Reddit has a lot of gems)
You can also target graduate roles as they do not care much about you having any PM experience. However, don’t depend on graduate roles alone, apply to non-graduate roles as well and just sell yourself. This was very very helpful, thank you. Would have to go on Reddit to source a lot of the answers out especially on the tools used, having a template on how the interview would go is super helpful. Thanks |
