olas24u: Get your facts right, you can follow natasha akpoti, the get the real information, the west has been preventing the Russians from completing the project, it was deliberate, the Russian company is still willing to complete the project. Stop educating people wrongly, natasha akopti is a product of this project, her father was sent to ussr for training. you will get full information instead of what you are writing here. The British coming for it is strategic, because Russians are one of the producers of steel in the world, and the biggest steel plant in Ukraine has been captured by Russians. They are protecting themselves not us. Our place is there playground through the fulani. Thanks, Ola, I am surprised people didn't put all the dots together. The West is struggling to get African support for their war with Russia. The Russian had agreed to complete the project but first, they had to assess the damage, this was before Covid-19 stop any feasibility study on the plant. The UK has sold all their steel plants to the Indians and the Indians have subsequently run these steel plants to the ground. UK is a service-oriented country. |

From the law of unintended consequences , this will hurt someone's presidential bid badly ... I am not an apologist for Tinubu, I can't understand the logic of a toll gate in the middle of a city. Lagos is still providing services to Nigerians beyond the federal government investment in Lagos, considering that the majority of the import/export runs through Lagos and the state has to accommodate 20% of Nigeria's entire population out of its meagre earnings. |

The Times view on finding allies against Moscow: Taking Sides The West needs to be careful that, in seeking to cajole countries into joining its coalition against Russia, it doesn’t end up stoking anti-western attitudes
Liz Truss was in India today, her second visit since becoming foreign secretary six months ago. That she was back so soon is testimony not just to the importance that the government attaches to relations with India but concern at Delhi’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As the world’s largest democracy, India might have been expected to condemn Moscow’s egregious breach of the United Nations charter. Its decision to abstain in UN votes on the invasion and remain neutral on the war has alarmed the West. The fact that Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, was also in Delhi today, following a visit last week by Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister, has raised fears of an emerging anti-western coalition.
Such an alliance may be unlikely. Nonetheless, India’s reluctance to take sides should perhaps not have come as a surprise. The country is dependent on Russia for most of its defence procurement. There is also a long-standing anti-western tradition that stems from past western support for Pakistan. That hostility has coloured media coverage since the start of the war. At the same time, Delhi clearly sees opportunities arising from the conflict. Not just a chance to buy Russian oil at discounted prices. But an opportunity to resolve local conflicts, including its border dispute with China.
Nor is India alone in refusing to take sides. Much of the Middle East has remained neutral, including Saudi Arabia and, to the surprise of many, the United Arab Emirates, formerly considered a reliable western ally. In Brazil, President Bolsonaro has refused to condemn Vladimir Putin. South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, has similarly echoed Russia’s official position that it perceived a national existential threat from Nato. And while 28 African countries voted at the UN to condemn Russia’s invasion, it is striking that 17 abstained and eight recorded no vote. Of the 28, none have elaborated on their position but some have criticised the West for double standards.
The West’s failure so far to convince a broader coalition to take a moral stand against Russia reflects multiple factors. Some countries have commercial and security links with Russia that they want to preserve. Others, notably in the Middle East, are reluctant to be drawn into what they perceive to be a European conflict at a time when so many regional conflicts, including Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Libya, remain unresolved. But there’s little question that as in India, anti-western sentiment is also a factor. That has made public opinion in many countries susceptible to Russian propaganda and disinformation.
This is a challenge for the West, not least because in a protracted conflict, the reluctance of many countries to take its side risks making it easier for Russia to evade sanctions. Yet the West also needs to be careful that in seeking to cajole countries to take sides in the conflict, it does not stoke the anti-western attitudes that have so far kept them on the sidelines. In an increasingly multipolar world in which countries believe they have more strategic options, how the West goes about its task is extremely important. Lecturing countries on their responsibilities risks backfiring.

Cotton: Our youths don't have thinking skills. Everybody here is shouting but nobody has mentioned the law. He was charged with a particular crime and the EFCC could not prove it so he has to be acquitted. He said the money was accumulated gifts from persons. No money was found missing in the discharge of his duties. It is not enough to be sensational and shout, you also have to provide evidence. Giving gifts to public officers is not against the law. It is only against the law when it is given for them to do or not to do their duty. EFCC would need to show that the money is not his and where it came from. He can simply say that it is accumulated cash savings, he doesn't have to prove otherwise. The same thing with Tinubu and bullion van...it is not an offence for bullion van to enter your compound o! You have to prove what it was carrying and so many other things. The way the law works is different from emotional sensationalism. The law is meant for both the innocent and the guilty. You are correct In the UK we have a law that requires the culprit in this case Andrew Culprit, to provide evidence on how he acquired such wealth on his salaries, even gifts must be explained. It is called unexplained wealth law, it will be hard to enact this law in Nigeria because all the politicians will be required to explain the source of their wealth. |

fergie001: A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday discharged and acquitted a former Group Managing Director, GMD, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu from the $9.8 million corruption charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed in a judgment ordered the huge foreign exchange seized from him in 2017 and kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) be refunded to him forthwith.
The Judge held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which put Yakubu on trial, failed woefully to establish that he held the money over and above the threshold allowed by law.
Justice Mohammed further said that the evidence of the witnesses of the anti-graft agency created gap of doubts which must be resolved in favour of the defendant. In the UK we have a law that requires the culprit in this case Andrew Culprit to provide evidence on how he acquired such wealth on his salaries, even gifts must be explained. festacman: The first blunder was to have engaged Russia out of all countries of the world to build Ajaokuta Steel Complex project. From 1979 to 2023, the company hasn't produced a sheet of metal. Now, the baton has been passed to next government.
And worst of all, the official position of Nigeria on Russia-Ukraine war is that Russia should pull out. It is possible President Putin has used the copy of the agreement he signed with Buhari to smoke weed. The West refuse to support Nigeria's steel ambition in the 1970s, they claimed that Nigerians were not technologically and operationally advance to manage a steel industry, with the way events have transpired they are probably right. (I recall reading this in Newswatch magazine in the 1980s ). One of Russia's concerns was locating the steel complex in Ajaokuta, although it was close to the raw materials in Itakpe iron mines, the Russian preference was to locate the Steel plant closer to the ports and industries in the South to reduce logistics and Electricity cost. Locating Delta Steel Plant in the South hasn't bought any benefit to Nigeria, so it is obvious that corruption and backwardness are the two main reasons why the steel industry has failed to produce in Nigeria. Nigeria can't even extract and refine its own oil despite 62 years of exploitation, the fact that Buhari is the Minister of Petroleum and has failed to repair or build a single refinery is evidence of Nigeria's precarious industrial situation. Nigeria should focus on the light manufacturing industry such as agro-processing, textile and pharmaceutical these industries have few moving parts and are still electro-mechanical. Nigerians should be protesting the fuel shortage , corruption and insecurity rather than missing the 2022 FIFA world cup in Qatar. |

The company has its headquarters in Accra, Ghana, with an office in Badagry, Nigeria, and field offices in Cotonou – Benin, Lome – Togo, Tema and Takoradi, both in Ghana.
WAPCo is a joint venture between public and private sector companies from Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana.

We operate an Open Access system for the use of our pipeline to multiple shippers. We promote the WAGP system as a key natural gas transmission infrastructure for all natural gas sources including Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG).
WAPCo is owned by Chevron West African Gas Pipeline Ltd (36.9%); Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (24.9%); Shell Overseas Holdings Limited (17.9%); and Takoradi Power Company Limited (16.3%), Societe Togolaise de Gaz (2%) and Societe BenGaz S.A. (2%).

tekjansen2: While you are right at the bolded, the hard and cold fact is that, take politics away, take PDP and APC and GEJ and Buhari, and so on away, and Nigerians would not, will not , support subsidy removal.
The reason why Nigerians protested in 2012 was not because of Buhari and company manipulating them, it was because fuel prices went up from N65 to N140. That is all Nigerians saw, not the potential increase in domestic refining, and the new refineries that could result.
Every time subsidy removal has been on the table....Nigerians have said no. That's why even people like Obasanjo, and strongmen like Abacha never ever contemplated totally removing subsidy. All they did was partial removal.
Try putting up a thread on this site about subsidy removal. You would be cursed from one end to the other. Even now, subsidy removal means that fuel may end up costing N400. Or more. You would be accused of bringing hardship on Nigerians. So the question is why are the refineries not working and why isn't the country building new refineries to compliment the existing refineries. If the country had a working electricity power plant, there will be less demand for PMS. |

As a student then, there were times we would go 2 days without bathing, cooking etc. Going out is completely out of it. girlfriends? Whose time will you sacrifice. You can count how many days in a session you get up to 5 hours sleep at a stretch. During the last one month before defence, our beds will hang on one side of the wall because we can't afford to sleep. You only sleep when your head starts aching and yet you can't sleep more than 3 hours in 24 hours. You sit and draw from morning till night and from night, you still sit on your drawing table watching the day break. Funny thing, you will never still meet up with the deadline before defence. You will just do as much as you can. Only those who had Architecture students as friends, lodgemates or roommates can relate. Your architecture training has already prepared you well to be a first-class Software Developer or even Software Architect. In the UK, I trained as an Aerospace Engineer over a four years period, in between my holiday breaks, I would complete three months of boot camps training in system analysis, C Language and C++ this was in the early 1990s, within three months of graduating, I was being offered graduate trainee jobs, with the like of IBM Business Consulting. I went back into Engineering but after 5 years, returned to IT and have never looked back. The same skill that is required to design a house is required to design an E2E application like a fuel and freight management system for Shell or SITA. If you are very good at your job you can be running your company with a small team of developers working on complex projects and fulfilling your dreams and independence. My advice is that you take on the boot camp training, we live in the digital age. Good luck |

AkalaJ: I think that this problem, as repeated by Prof. Barth Nnaji, is well-known to both the public and private the stakeholders of the sector. But what curious minds like myself would like to know is how we can solve this problems, and also if it's the FG, state government, or the private sector that should be relied upon to solve it once and for all, that way we'll know who to hold accountable for prolonging this problem. We keep making this stable electricity issue seem like it's rocket science.
Perhaps it's a lack of will to solve the problems that is the issue because these problems have always been there. Why can't a solution be devised for the sector the way it was with the Telecommunications sector for example? The problem is directly linked to the structure of Nigeria as a country. I have learnt that you can solve technical problems unless you have solved the organisation and governance problems first. I am sure that Professor Nnaji is aware that the technical problems are symptoms of vested interest and bad governance. Nigeria has tried both privatisation and state ownership with little or no change to the country's electricity and energy requirements. I have lived in the UK for many years and they have a regional power grid like British Gas in England & Wales and Scottish Electric in Scotland, the success of these two energy providers has got to the stage that Scottish Electric is now providing gas and electricity into England. The UK government maintains the National Grid, which is like Nigeria's TSN Transmission, with a multitude of power generators and distributors providing the energy for industry and household needs. Back to Nigeria, let each geographical region decide its own regional energy strategy, this should include refineries, electricity, solar and gas. I cannot see any reason why five states cannot pool their resources and invest in a regional electricity grid that can support their regional development, surplus electricity can then be sold to the national grid for profit. Kwara, Lagos, Akwa Ibom have already built state power stations. |
