The Niger Delta Avengers on Angels of Doom should please keep bombing the Gas pipeline.

It will increase the pace of development of other source of power. North gets its power from Shiroro and Kainji Dams. They will soon add mambila dam to it.

SW is getting its power from Kainji and Egbin. Egbin can run on both coal and gas.

Who will the gas pipeline affect MOST? Your guess is as good as mine

Education / Nigerians Selected For 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship by Super1Star: 7:20pm On May 07, 2016
Yesterday, the U.S. Embassy recognized over 100 young Nigerians selected to participate in the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and a key component of President Barack Obama’s commitment to invest in the future of Africa. The White House developed this initiative in recognition of the critical and increasing role that young Africans are playing in strengthening democratic institutions, spurring economic growth, and enhancing peace and security in Africa.

Speaking at a special gathering in Abuja, U.S. Ambassador James F. Entwistle congratulated the new fellows on their competitive selection amongst 10,000 Nigerian applicants and tens of thousands of others throughout Africa.

Ambassador Entwistle congratulates the Nigerian cohort of the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship.
Ambassador Entwistle congratulates the Nigerian cohort of the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship.

“Our goal was to select a diverse group, both geographically and socio-economically, representing all Nigeria has to offer,” said Ambassador Entwistle. “You represent the best of Nigeria’s youth and the future of the country. Your selection says a lot about who you are as young leaders and the level of impact you are having on your communities as entrepreneurs, civic leaders, public servants, and champions of renewable energy,” he added.

On the list were over 90 outstanding young Nigerians including former beauty queen/MBGN 2000 Dr. Matilda Kerry, she has worked consistently to improve the lives of underprivileged children via the George Kerry Life Foundation; Adebola Williams, co-founder of Red Media who has set an indelible standard in the world of media and PR via the Future Awards, YNaija and more; Otto Orondaam who founded Slum2School which is now one of the largest volunteer driven non-profits in Nigeria.

Congrats to everyone selected!

Since 2014, 86 Nigerians have participated in the Mandela Washington Fellowship. Fellows participate in an intensive, six-week program on academic excellence and leadership focused on business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, public management, and renewable energy at U.S. colleges and universities.

I agree the subtitles are awful, but it's a working progress. Ask those Africsns, they know Omotola and Jenifa. Yoruba producers are marketing their products. At the end of the day, Yoruba movies make better plots and sense than Nollywood. Igbo Nollywood is non existent, nobody even knows they exist.

Tell the mofo that 14 out of the top 30 Nigerian films were directed by Yorubas (in a country that has over 250 ethnicities), That is a whooping 47% --- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_Nigerian_films

General, that means in this case Obi is innocent and clean of this matter because he merely sent the bank MD to a potential customer as he did not know how much was involved before sending the MD to market Diezani. Again it was the bank MD that was supposed to turn the transaction down if he found out that the CBN regulations forbids absorbing such amount that should have been reported to CBN in line with the regulations. I think the MD should be the fall guy here!

Absolutely correct.

Someone should educate me, What crime did the MD commit? He's a banker, its his job to take money to keep and disburse when needed. You can't arrest a man for doing his legal duty.

His crime is those transactions were not reported to the necessary quarters as expected by law. Banks give rendition of various reports to NFIU. EFCC and CBN on daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Some banks may have intentionally removed the transaction from the report and which is a crime on its own and it is also fraudulent in nature, apart from aiding and abetting a fraud.

All what the bank needed to do is just report. Whether the regulatory bodies are using the reports or not, it is not the bank's business and headache.

Politics / Re: To Those Calling For The Resignation Of Senate President Saraki by Super1Star: 7:51am On May 07, 2016
I am sure this respected OP on NL, woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning.

Whether Saraki is being witch hunted or not is immaterial. The bottom line is even the blind could see that all the crimes brought against him are too weighty.

When he was stealing those monies, did he considered that that money could have saved someone's father from dying from road accident. Did he realised that that money could have saved a baby's life if the hospital was in top notch shape; did he considered that the money could have provided employment for someone, who would in turn be impacting at least 4 lives.

He was more interested in letting people realise how much he has here and there, how he can send ONLY his children to the best schools in the world etc. If those people that are witch hunting are being selfish, we should care less because Saraki never cared too.

Guess what, if the tables were turned, he would have done the same to the other party that he is alleging to be witch hunting. It is a game of dog-eat-dog.
Education / Harvard, UI Maintain Spots As ‘best Universities’ by Super1Star: 8:30pm On May 06, 2016
While Harvard University maintained its spot as the best university in the world, the University of Ibadan (UI) remained the best in Nigeria for year 2016 – holding the torch from 2015.

According to the survey by Times Higher Education (THE), Asian universities are becoming more prestigious, increasing from 10 to 18 universities in the Top 100.

In Africa, Cape Town University in South Africa remained the best university, while University of Ghana, Legon, was named the best in west Africa.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Cambridge, and Oxford University followed Harvard closely at the second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively.

No African university made into the 2016 Top 100, with Cape Town University coming in at 120.

University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premiere University, with 26,247 students and a student-to-staff ratio of 17.1, came in between 601-801, as no specific position was given.

No other Nigeria university made it into the top 800 universities in the world.

Over the past five years, countries other than the US and UK have struggled to make it to the Top 10 with little success.

The University of Tokyo in Japan is the only institution outside the US and UK to have come into the Ivy-10 league, hitting eighth in 2011 and 2012, and 9th in 2013.

In 2016, Tokyo ranked best in Asia and 12th in the world.

The US remains dominant in the Top 100 with the first three Universities and 40 others in the highly sought top 100 universities.

Nice objective and sensible post.

I strongly believe the only way out of this madness is a restructuring of the nation in the following order:

1. Review of the constitution to recognise referendum.

2. Sovereign National Conference

3. Have a referendum to ratify propositions of the SNC, which I hope can propose true federalism or regionalism, with a secession clause of 10-20years notice.

4. Ratification of the new constitution.

5. Implementation of the new structure.

The country will continue to go round in circles until we address the fundamentals and highly germane questions.

2. It was once a capital and the common wealth was used in developing it.

So with this why will a group of people dare claim ownership of Lagos when every Nigerians are stakeholders. ( they still pay their taxes till date)

The same way Lokoja and Calabar were capitals. I guess they are no man's land too.

Are we the ones that says your forefathers should be too lazy to acquire good lands for you, apart from your red mud gully eroded land?

Politics / Protest In Aba As Soldiers Allegedly Kill Two Butchers by Super1Star: 6:13am On May 06, 2016
What would have been a major ethnic clash was averted yesterday in Aba, Abia State following protests over alleged killings of two Igbo butchers at the Waterside abattoir by soldiers.

Vanguard gathered  that penultimate week, an unnamed soldier  in mufti, reportedly  went to the abattoir to smoke Indian hemp after which he refused to pay, claiming he was a soldier. The situation led to a fracas with some boys in the area, who  insisted he must pay, without knowing that the man was a soldier.

The said soldier reportedly came to the abattoir yesterday with four of his colleagues in a  Hilux  patrol  van and started shooting indiscriminately. There was commotion in the area as butchers and those who came to buy meat scampered to  safety and when the shooting died down, a pig rearer, identified as Ojukwu, was found dead.

It was gathered that  when some of the butchers, who saw what happened, sought to know from the soldiers what led to their action, that the trigger happy soldiers shot and killed another butcher.

The soldiers reportedly beat four others to pulp and forced them  into their van and drove off to an unknown destination.

Their action angered the butchers as they were joined by other people in a protest that  spread to all parts  of the city. Attempt by the protesters to dump one the dead bodies they took round the town in a wheel barrow at one of the military posts in the city was aborted by soldiers in full battle gear at the Ogbor Hill waterside bridge.

The protest which began at about  12.00noon  later took an  ethnic colouration, as the protesters marched towards the Mosque  and the Hausa settlement  on Hospital Road, but were  quickly  dispersed by soldiers who kept watch over the places. As at the time of filing this report, some Hausas in the city had to take refuge at the  Aba Police Area command.

When contacted, Commanding Officer, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General Lawrence Fejokwu, said investigations are ongoing to unravel the cause of the incident.

In 1967, you killed our leaders and we simply brought you to justice. Simple as ABC.

Critically analysed and it is anti-igbo coup!!!! CHineke meheeeeee. Na wa o.

1, Who were the coup plotters? Igbos.
2. How many Igbo men were killed, whether politician or military? just one military officer.-- Lt. Col Arthur Unegbe. He was killed out of vendetta and beef by one of the coup plotters. He was reported to have refused to handover the key to the armoury.
3. Who refused to hand hand over power to the nominated cabinet member (Dipcharima), after Balewa's demise? Orizu, an igbo man
4. Who handed over power to Ironsi? Orizu
5. Who was the beneficiary of the coup executed by igbo officers? Ironsi, an igbo man.
6. Who was dilly-dallying in bringing the igbo coup plotters to justice? Ironsi, an igbo man.

If it is not an Igbo coup, then it must be Hutus coup then.

Lagos won't be any different from other west African colonial coastal cities like Accra, Freetown, Lome, Abidjan, Conakry, etc, if she wasn't attached to the better south Nigeria by the colonials.

You left in 1993 during June 12, who begged you to come back. Abeg comot our territory and let better people come in. Nature does not abhor vacuum.

We dare you live and we shall see whether 200% of you will not run back by the folowing week, like you did in the 60s and 90s.

Are you not even ashamed? No one is willing to identify with any town, village or hamlet in your region. No one. You should be ashamed. Wallahi. Its better you all have a concerted effort to evolve a city into even Calabar status, that others from other regions ill be willing to visit or migrate to.

What am I looking for in your poverty ravaging region when ever I feel like to to sense or feel colonial era I come to your brown roof repubic.

Lol. Poverty region that holds over 50% of the entire deposit of this nation. No woder PMB described your worthless and gully eroded region as ''mere 5%''.

How can you even have a brown roof, when your forefathers were too mentally lazy to build towns with centuries of history, they were too military inept to conquer good and fertile land and sexually handicapped to have population to build an empire.
