My SEVIS is still valid for usage - within 365 days. However, I'll be using it for a different school - not the same school I used it for last year - am I just gonna use it that way?

Hi Akin, you most likely will get a new SEVIS ID and School Code from the new school. Your SEVIS fee payment is still valid, however you will need to transfer the payment to the new SEVIS ID. Follow the steps below:

1. Go to www.fmjfee.com and click on "CHECK I-901 STATUS".
2. Fill in your old SEVIS ID, Last Name and Date of Birth. You will be directed to the Payment Status Page.
3. On the Payment Status Page, Click on "Request Transfer". You will be asked to provide your New SEVIS ID and New School Code.
4. Provide the new SEVIS ID and School Code. Submit your request.

DHS will process the request and you will receive a notification if approved. It typically takes 1-2 business days.

Dear all, I need some kind information on this SEVIS Fee!

I had paid the fee last year (March 26) for an (M.A.) admission I couldn't resume for. I re-applied and got an admission (now for a PhD) in the same school with the same SEVIS ID. I understand the one-year expiration of the SEVIS fee but when I tried to pay for another using the ID, it brought the prompt that I had already paid the fee.

Now I am confused as to what to do because the Fee should have expired last month (March).

I'd appreciate comments and pieces of advice on the next line of actions.

I saw this post the day the guy posted it.

He missed one of the two factors I listed yesterday - he doesn't have the right profile for an MBA-level job.

I always advise people against applying directly to MBA degrees when they have no significant work experience.

So, he doesn't have strong work experience to apply for MBA-level roles.

That doesn't change the fact that his class had an average compensation >$200K after their degree

One or (a few) bad scenarios out of 450 students is not bad for a school like Stanford.

So, don't get so anxious about this and use it to justify complacency.

Also, MBAs are not as hyped in Canada or Europe as they are hyped in the US. So, the ROI from a US MBA in the Canadian labor market is very low. I would rather encourage the person to get a Canadian MBA if he/she wants to remain in the Canadian market. The MBA is not even needed cos Canada is not a country that hypes that degree.

Absolutely agree with you regarding his profile for MBA-level jobs. I stumbled on his post earlier this week- his case is an edge case and is not representative of the final outcomes for Stanford MBAs in his class. Though he seems to have "significant" work experience, he only has 2 years of work experience post his MEng degree and pre-Stanford which is what counts for recruiters.

There are a ton of opportunities for MBA graduates in the US, especially those who attend top-notch programs but one still needs to put in the hardwork to land a job offer after graduation. These programs give access to an unparalleled network which can open up doors to roles at fortune 100 companies, Big Tech, Strategy Consulting or Investment Banking. However, pre-MBA experience matters and the stronger the better.

I agree with having a strategy/plan not just for getting into the US but also for leveraging opportunities out there. Truth be told, there are multiple paths that can get one to his/her desired career goal. But no path is the "right" path and every individual's situation is different. The most important thing is to set your eyes on the goal, work hard and take advantage of opportunities as they come.

went to the embassy without paying sevis fee, i stylishly ran out to avoid the interview i would be using it for another time,
also classes starts on the 7th Jan and i have to report to my university on 4th Jan

currently i have all documents and i have paid for everything but i dont have my sevis the next date happens to be on 3rd of Jan
do i defer my admission or go ahead and request to expedite the process

There was a scheduled outage which has now been extended. Hopefully it is back up before end of day 27th December. I would expect DHS to communicate officially to the Embassies if SEVIS payments cannot be made by end of day 27th due to the implication this has on student visa interviews.
