Finally, I've taken the bold step and would be moving out by the end of this month. Gotten a nice apartment and its central location makes everything accessible. I know it'll be challenging but what the heck? Gotta do it someday. Thanks to everyone that contributed. |
@ Ajanlekoko, shoot me a blank email. superbrainnl (at) gmail (dot) com. Thanks. |
@ Ajanlekoko, leave this buzugee guy. If he feels so bitter, let him go and study Engineering. Maybe he will design and make a space shuttle. The guy doesnt know jack about what he is saying. Meanwhile, we got unfinished business. How do i reach you? |
@ OP, It is wrong to hold a strong opinion about something you don't understand. Debosky has said it all. To those making comparison to India and the likes, find out their research expenditure yearly. In summary, Input = Output + waste. Despite this, we have some of the finest engineers at the helm of affairs in multinational oil coys. Our leaders have failed to invest in the right things, especially education. |
Siberia- Beautiful country, beautiful ladies, plenty jobs, no much immigration wahala. You will become a big boi when you get there. |
@ OP, I feel your pain. Same thing happened when I was in secondary school. The truth is that you would have more haters than people who truly admire your intelligence. Just ignore the talks but i won't advise you neglect the classes. Just don't answer questions except they are thrown directly at you and never contend with a teacher. Help only those that ask for your help and never try to make a show of your intelligence just because you feel challenged by another person. I survived it back then by ignoring them and focusing on developing myself. Got into the university and made sure I applied it to my studies. It paid off. Now, I know I'm intelligent and I don't give a hoot what anyone else thinks though I know when to apply intelligence and when to "mope". And I "mope" with purpose. ![]() |
@ OP, Do not act like you're up to anything, just make it as romantic as you can. Remember it is a moment for life. Make it grand. |

The solution is simple: Scrap the stupid scheme!!! It has outlived its purpose. I weep for the lost, |
Ondo North Senatorial District LP: 84, 290 PDP: 51, 117 ROBERT AJAYI BOROFFICE wins! Akure North/South Federal Constituency LP: 41,286 PDP: 20,045 ACN: 4,105 ABEGUNDE S. IFEDAYO wins! |
@ imperiouxx and next2_TX, very well spoken. @ fris, take the TOEFL test and go back to the embassy. Also try to apply to a different school. You should be good. @ seal777, Bro, next2_TX is right. But don't give up. Go back again. Don't be perturbed. |
@ visuals, take it lightly. All the guy is trying to say is that the answers should come more naturally from you. Some questions you don't expect can be thrown at you like Why is your uncle sponsoring you? And why didn't you apply for your masters in Nigeria instead? It can be anything. Have you read the thread from beginning? There are a few tips you can learn from the wealth of information in here. Don't hesitate to ask any question when in doubt. Where is seal777? |
BTW where is the poster? There are a lot of unanswered questions here. 1. Are you legally married to her? (Court Registry, with evidence-marriage certificate) 2. Have you been having problems previously before she "called it off"? 3. What has been her family's response to this? The picture needs to be clearer. A lot of responses here are clouded by sentiments. Now it has turned to a fight. Let's stay on topic. |

Sorry folks. I was online but not on NL. herself:I use a Skye Bank prepaid visa card for all my online transactions including those on the ApplyTexas web application. It is quite easy to get. Walk into any Skye Bank branch, request for one with the following documents: Utility Bill, Identification document, $50 minimum opening balance, and passport photographs. You will get the card that same day if you supply all your documents. Then all you have to do is change the PIN on a Skye Bank ATM before you make any online payments. Mind you, they charge $20 (deductible from your $50) for issuing you the card. If you want me to make the payment on your behalf, shoot me an email: superbrainnl at gmail.com sanciro:Shoot me an email bro. Then I'll reply with the ID. imperiouxx:Send me an email. I have the NOVA and Barrons GRE materials. I will send it to you as soon as I see your mail. Cheers! @ House, still waiting for my admission letter from Penn State. Hopefully, I should get it by mid-April. |
tabarity:Spot on bro. I guess that's why they haven't mailed me my admission letter yet. I won't be surprised if they rescind their decision. ![]() @ cezeozue, keep your hopes high man. You will surely get more than you expect. |
@ OP, A friend of mine had a similar experience. He married a young lady, got her pregnant and sent her to the UK for an MBA. Mind you, the guy is a business man and was into serious cash. Two months after she left, she called to tell him she had lost the baby. He believed and gave her the support she needed. A month later, while chatting with another friend in the UK, he mentioned he just got into the same MBA program the chic was in. I told her about my other friend's wife and surprisingly, he knew her and had even been "shining her congo" for two weeks as at then. Summary: We confirm the story, my business man friend stops sending the girl money, and two months later, she returned begging. Advice: She is gone and now that she is done with her masters, there is little or nothing you can do. Lure her to Nigeria, or find a way to get your backside over to the US and make sure you get your child! After that, she can go. If you let the child go, he/she will grow up calling another man daddy. Have you contacted her people? |
coldhearts:Very logical point but one thing you must realize is that African leaders are not trained to dialogue or follow due process. The UN action is not justified in anyway, considering the motive behind their action, neither is Gaddafi's. The only language these African leaders (the dictators) understand is violence. They can't handle it. It brings out the animal instinct in them. You want to know the true character of a man? PUSH HIM TO THE LIMITS! Of utmost concern here is the lives of the Libyans. If a government is failing and opposition calls for a change, why can't the government defend itself legally? Because the government is the executive, legislature and judiciary and in most countries, the POPULACE. Let's be concerned about out fellow brothers in Libya. Their lives is all that matters. |
Builder:I agree with you to an extent. There is always vested interest. What do you expect them to do? Sit down and watch their investments and interests go down the drain? My main concern here is the civilians in Libya. Maybe you haven't witnessed a war situation yet but trust me, all that'll be on your mind if you were caught in the middle is PEACE. Libyans want a better government and they have a right to that even if it means the UN has to intervene (with ulterior motives) on their behalf. To the UN, it means killing two birds with one stone. ![]() |
So Gaddafi has supporters in Nigeria? Interesting! AU should go to hell! A psychotic man is fighting the very same people he ought to protect and some folks are here ranting that UN intervention is wrong? I don't blame all of you. Same thing PDP has been doing for 12 years yet some people will still vote them into power. Gaddafi, your game is up. Even psychotic dumb men like you in the AU can't save you this time. The revolution has begun and is spreading. We haven't seen the last of it yet. |
fxtopedia:Is it not obvious from my post? The debate is just a set-up. Very disappointing that the much loved GEJ is absent. And for a presidential debate, the first set of questions asked were totally off-point considering that the one man who has a lot of questions to answer as regards "careless previous statements" is absent. Get it? |
LET'S CALL A SPADE A SPADE. THIS DEBATE IS A SET-UP TO MAR THE CREDIBILITY OF OTHER PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANTS. GEJ INTENTIONALLY DID NOT SHOW UP AND WHY ARE THE ASPIRANTS BEING "ATTACKED" AS THOUGH THEY ARE IN A LAW COURT? THEY ARE TO DEBATE ON NATIONAL ISSUES, COME ON. THIS IS A BIG JOKE! |
imperiouxx:It makes more sense if you resume in fall so that your I-20 and other documents can arrive in time. So, defer and take your time to do it right instead of trying to book a date now and messing things up because of incomplete docs. All the best. |
BB 4 life No to CORRUPTION, No to RIGGING, No to PDP!!! We have had enough, ![]() |
Forgive my typos, |
Though I do not have any experience studying abroad, studying in Nigeria (in the Federal University I attended) wasn't beans. First of all, we were like 150 in my department and many times, I had to listen to lectures through the windows of the class. Politicking was the other of the day. There were classmates that never showed up in class but always came tops. Know why? Money had changed hands. So, no matter how good you were, lecturers expected you to pay a *royalty* for taking their course and if you didn't, you were seen as a traitor. There were exceptions though and most of them were those exposed to western education. In addition to that, there were no facilities. I did a final year project in bio-remediation and there were days I felt like the world was going to crash on me. I had a difficult supervisor that changed my project topic like ten times (depending on her mood and current interest) and made me prepare a paper before I could be given an A. Of course, you would guess who the principal author of the paper is! There were assignments everyday, term papers to submit and lectures to attend (yeah, 75% attendance was required for all courses). And no matter how smart and intelligent you were, you'll be waiting your time presenting a stellar work without your *royalty* payment. Of course, there were guys that made a first class but everyone knew why they did. In summary, my experience was hell because of the lack of adequate facilities, corruption on the part of the lecturers, absurd work load, and many other factors. The painful part is that no matter how much effort you put in, it may never pay off except you *dance to the music being played*. Worst of all was that if one lecturer was offended with you, you had to kiss goodbye to good grades that semester except you "appeased the gods". I know that no matter the work load one has to carry in a foreign institution, fair-play, hard-work and diligence would pay off in the long run. |
It's a big shame. Now they're wasting our money "rehabilitating" those criminals. Their mates went to school, got a degree and are making a living out of it. They took to militancy, committed offenses against the state and they get to study abroad on full scholarship? Why don't they incorporate them into the Army, Navy or Airforce instead of wasting money training those block-heads? Most of 'em don't even have SSCE or NECO and they want to read Engineering, Business Administration, etc? Good job GEJ. The message to our children is clear. In Nigeria, evil pays better than good. |
herself:23, 25k is a good amount. Check their policies for international students. Do you qualify for instate tuition after a while? Are there scholarships you can take advantage of? How about internships and on-campus jobs? Texas and California are your best bets for Geology. Just make sure the schools you apply to don't have a lot of restrictions on international students. Make calls to clarify on issues and email their international office with all your inquiries. It will pay off in the long run. You're good to go! |
Lilema:Walk into any Skye Bank branch. Request for a prepaid visa card. Load the card with the amount of dollars you need to pay for, activate the card on any ATM by changing the PIN, go online and make your payment. They will tell you the minimum you can use to get one but I think it's $50 (you will only have access to $30 after getting the card). I love the Skye prepaid Visa card. It is quite flexible and I've used it for various application payments. Q.E.D. By the way, you may want to avoid the GTB Mastercard. Annoying stuff. |
