Has anyone ever tried using a GTB mastercard to pay for the GRE? I have a dorm account with them and i intend getting it there.

Nigerians! When would we all wake up to the obvious? Whether the move was politically motivated or not, the sacked CEOs are culpable. The move is very tactical and i give Kudos to the CBN governor. Those banks and others not involved were at the brink of collapse which would have occured if the governor had not intervened. The man had been watching all these years seeing all the misnomers in the sector and as the opportunity came, he took advantage of it. In a few years to come, many would look back and appreciate what is going on presently. If EFCC didn't step in, i bet them crooks would have elopped into thin air.

Use an intercontinental bank or gtb mastercard. Though they claim it is not available as a payment option for Nigerians, it is the fastest and safest way to pay and get a confirmation and many people have been using this payment method. I support the idea of applying to safety schools and initially i hoped to apply to three universities in Texas and four others but right now, i have just four schools in mind and none is in Texas! Most Nigerians are applying to the top tier schools (especially the ones in Texas). I no want make dem use their hip-hop spoil my fuji,

It’s not like everyone wants to study Chemical Engineering with the hope of working in the oil sector. I don’t believe that just anyone can study Chemical Engineering and make a good grade. The course is a broad and dynamic one and offers more diversification than any other engineering field. So be it process, production and manufacturing, exploration, environmental, safety or whatever you are interested in, you can never go wrong with a graduate degree in chemical engineering.
I’m more interested in the PhD because it offers a more in-depth study of the field, and I’ll be able to be involved in a lot of research-four years ain’t a joke you know? Asides that, the financial aid given to PhD students in preference to those on a terminal masters is also a strong motivator.

I have a friend who is starting at MIT this fall. He’s Nigerian, on a full fellowship and the most amazing is that he only had a GRE score of 1340 and TOEFL iBT of 100 and undergrad G.P.A of 4.5/5.0. I guess most admission committees look out for other important things. In all, just believe in yourself and trust in God.

Some other state universities in the US have great MS and PhD programs in both Petroleum and Chemical Engineering. Don’t limit yourself to only Texan universities.

I've got a lot i want to clarify. I am also hoping to take the GRE in November and i've been preparing for four months now. I'm doing well on my quant but still working on RCs in the verbal. I'm aiming for a score above 1500 and hoping t get into a great PhD program in Chemical Engineering.

I sent my TOEFL registration with a check payment of $150 on the 17th of July to Prometric in The Netherlands and till date i haven't received a confirmation. I'll called and mailed a couple of times but the response remains the same-"Application not received/not found". Now i'm wondering what to do because my scheduled test date was 22nd of August which is barely five days from now. Could the delay be that long or is something wrong?

In lieu of that, i intend to pay for my GRE online. Can any nairalander advise on what payment method ( Visacard, Mastercard, etc) to use? Time's running out and the whole thing is freaking me out!

Also, i'm applying to two schools for a PhD and two others for a terminal masters in Chemical Engineering. Does anyone have an idea about the current aid situation in most top engineering universities like UT, UH and Texas A & M?

An advice for the young man:

He should face it now. Running away would NOT solve the problem. I've been in a similar position and i had to face it. Still paying up till today but i know that very soon it'll all be over. I've learnt my lessons and i don't think i could have done so in a better way.

He should speak to those people he is owing and start something fast. Get a job or something or start hussling. When i say "hussling" i mean there are jobs he can do (in case he does not have a degree) that can fetch him some daily pay. Work at a site or something. It may take a year but the truth is that he should be looking forward to living a life free of fear without always having to watch over his back.

That's the best i can give him. Running away only means he'll live to face it another day, people don't forget such things and people are different. While some may understand, some may not. He should be a man and handle the situation. Involve family members if possible because they would help him.

Please nairalanders, what has happened has happened. We should always look out for solutions to problems: both ours and other peoples. It's what love is all about.

My apologies fellow nairalanders but it's so amazing how some of you are so short-sighted. Instead of "responding" by also investigating through your own means, you choose to "react" and make ridiculous comments. Now, i've been following this case from when AP made their allegations and from my findings-through reading in between lines from statements and documents issued by the parties involved, the following are clear:

1. That the AP shares were manipulated from the trend of trading that occured between Aliko Dangote and Nova Securities.

2. That Aliko Dangote cannot deny his involvement in this unprofessional act as he is the Vice-Chairman of the NSE and obviously, shares couldn't have been bought in his favour without his prior knowledge or approval.

3. Otudeko was right in his move to complain and report the issue to EFCC. Farida should not be abused or accused of neglect of duty.

Now many are talking about Halliburton Scandal but do you know how many Nigerians have shares in AP? Do you know what loss they would have incurred as a result of Alhaji Aliko Dangote's "Unprofessional and wicked" act?

I have some shares in AP and do you know how it feels to see a share price fall from aroung N180 to about N54 not because of the global financial crisis or the crash in the stock market but because of a selfish man's quest for supremacy in wealth.

I advise all those who don't even know about the whole scandal to shut up and go find out why he was invited for questioning.

You all talk about politicians as though you don't know that in Nigeria, at least for now,, Politicians seem to be immune to the law-but we pray it all changes as we strive together for a better Naija.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote should be tried and if found guilty as i presume, should be dealt with. Justice should prevail.

I'm a young graduate engineer and I hope to be serving with the next batch of NYSC. I and my cousin intend starting a mini-cybercafe (a business we hope to run aside what we may choose as career paths) and we did our market research and have estimated the cost as N 370,000 minimum.

Now we have a good location for the mini-cyber cafe but what we need is the start up capital to run the small scale business. I know all about bank loans et al but i need your advise on what would be the easiest means to get such a soft loan- Banks, Micro-finance banks,etc.

I'm looking at not paying more than 20% yearly interest and being able to secure between 350,000 to 500,000 with a payment tenor of 1 to 2 years. I'll appreciate it if your advise can be detailed especially with names of banks or recommendations. You can reply to this post.

Please also note that we have already done all the ground work including analyzing other cafes and getting in touch with the suppleirs of equipment and even service providers. your answers are welcome.

NIGERIA HAS A LONG WAY TO GO AND THE FINANCIAL SYSTEM IS BEING OVERHAULED,

I've had teribble experiences with two of the major banks in this country and i'll call their names and rank their bullshit in order of priority:

1. UBA- The most fraudulent Bank (Both by management and staff)
Reasons: Hidden Charges, High cost of foreign transfers, Fraudulent practices on customers ATM details and worst of all, unnecessary deductions from customers accounts.

2. Bank PHB- The most expensive bank to bank with
Reasons: High charges on Foreign Exchange transfers, Hidden Charges, and dubious practices even with their products (especially UK Edu Loan)

3. The many others who charge unnecessarily on accounts and perpetrate other kinds of fraudulent acts on their supposed "esteemed" customers' account- OCEANIC, FCMB, FIRST BANK, ZENITH BANK, INTERCONTINENTAL BANK (their ATMs trap cash easily)

Those who are advocating for the Banking Industry should keep quite. The banks are just in the post-consolidation era and i remember that before consolidation, the fraudulence was unbearable. Moreover, most bank managers work hand in hand with "criminals" just so as to either hit the so called target they were given or for their own personal means. Imagine marketers of nowadays are so desperate for funds that some "yahoo" boys have formed good relationships with such bank staff.

If you want to get the best of banking services, just walk into any GTBank and you'll at least be treated with some dignity and respect. I am not a staff of the bank but for the two years i've been with them , never for once have i had a cause to complain.

Let's call a spade a spade. If you are not satisfied with the services of your bank, then opt for a better option. Don't remain stuck there and keep licking the wounds they would continously inflict on your financial life.

For those that have been affected one way or the other, i sympathize with you. If you have a good lawyer and you can get a good case against them, then go ahead and sue! Some may say it may not work, but who knows? You might as well be smiling out at the end with a lump sum OR even get the bank to settle out of court. Remember, your case must be a good one and your lawyer must be superb.

A word is enough for the wise! But don't ever think things are going to change soon. "CHANGE" itself is a process.

Guy, if you have the resources, take off. Getting a masters degree especially in the U.K. would put you ahead always when it comes to being considered for an opportunity and it's all a jump-start for any career.

But be careful. If you really need to get it abroad, go for the best school and do your research well. If it's an MBA, apply to the top MBA schools. An MBA from Havard Business School CANNOT be compared to an MBS from University of Georgia.

And be positive about your plans and dreams. A lot of people with bad experiences tend to discourage others who have dreams. Get someone in your line/field who you can take as a role model and let the person guide you.

Cost wise, RGU>UA>LSBU but i need to know which is best based on the following.
