Hey people, been a long while. I'm expecting an admit any time soon. So nervous I've been freaking out, i hope it doesn't turn to paranoia. Can't just imagine that after all the stress I went through I would not get an admit- won't happen folks.
Infact, I'm expecting an admit with aid. Join me in prayers,

Christianity Etc › Re: The Expressway Churches by Superbrain(m): 7:17pm On Feb 02, 2010 |
@ OP, I was enjoying this article (though very philosophical and idealist) till the writer started to lose objectivity. Christainity is not the only problem. The nuisance issues cannot be over-emphasized as a major problem of many churches but you may want to consider Islamic extremists as a bigger problem to the development of the nation. Religious leaders may manipulate their followers to achieve their own selfish desires but in life, there are always choices open to every man.
There would always be religion and people would always have the choice of what to believe. Intellect (scientific) is a different issue entirely. Religion does not promote or deter intelligence.
I therefore don't see a clear relationship between Religion and Scientific knowledge. You may want to re-organize your thoughts(just an advice). |

Abuseay: I sat patiently awaiting my turn to face the Consular, Alas! It was the Chinese American Woman whose Cubicle was Empty, Mhmmm and I have read about her on this thread, Well, I stood up and approached her cubicle,
Consular: Good Morning Me: Good Morning Consular: Have you ever been to the USA? Me: No Consular: What are you going to do? Me: To Study for my Doctoral Degree in Chemical Engineering Consular: How many Schools did U Apply and How many Rejects? Me: I applied to 2 Schools. Colorado State University and the URI, well the Colorado State University advised that they do not have the required faculty to supervise me, and they are still looking for a suitable match for my Research proposal. But I got accepted to URI. Consular:Whats your Research Proposal About? Me: Well I will be Specializing in Safety Health and Environmental Issues on Oil and Gas Offshore and Onshore Facilites, ( I stopped talking) Consular: Do U have a Masters Degree? Me: Yes I do. An MSc Petroleum Technology from the UK. Consular: When did you graduate? Me: Oct 2008 Consular: Whats your present job? Me: Am a Process Engineer Consular: So who is Sponsoring you? Me: My Father, (She asked what he does and alll that, ) I told Him he is a University Professor, Consular: Are you the only Child? Any Siblings? Because the Tutiton Fee on your I-20 is too much, Do u think your father can Support you all through? Me: I answered YES HE CAN ! Consular: Are you Sure? Me: YES I am sure Consular: Can I see his statement? Me: I gave her , ( Now She flipped through in about 15 seconds and she gave it back to me) Consular: Started Typing for about 50 seconds after which she gave me the green ticket to go pick up my Visa. and she said GOODLUCK on your Studies.
It was a long Interview, Wish you Guys the Best of God !!!
Congrats bro. I'm also going for an MS/Phd in Chemical Engineering come September. Please like how much did your sponsor have in his account. (I know it's a confidential thingy but just give me a hint.) I don't know if I should use my Uncle's statement or my Dad's company statement. Nethacker, you can also help out. |

holakunle: Hi fellas,
I need some words of advise on GRE exam. The new year came with a drastic change of career path for me. And as such, I intend enrolling for an engineering graduate admission come Fall 2010. I have been able to lock down a few schools whose application deadlines are still open. The main point here is that I'll need to write GRE test by January ending if I'm to meet up with these deadlines.
Can the house please advise on the best way to crush the GRE Verbal Test for a score of 700? I would be glad if all relevant materials (pdf/softwares) can be sent to holakunle(at)yahoo(dot)com
@ SEFAGO, Yalesman & Bebure Your opinions on the caption above would be highly welcomed and appreciated For the Quantitative- Use Powerprep and NOVA GRE. For the Verbal, Barrons would be helpful but focus on developing techniques to answer RCs. I wish you the best in your exams. SEFAGO: To be sincere I really doubt most people here need an 800 since most would be doing engineering. Except if someone wants to do a PhD in the humanities Yeah that's true. Even with a 500 on the Verbal section, you could get admitted to an Ivy League school. @ Others, Focus on the Quantitative section and the Analytical section. A bad score in those two would hurt your application. Godeagle: Wow guys! It's nice to see how much information have been shared in this since I've been gone. I've learnt a lot more. Well, I'm back for Fall admission. All thanks to the player hater that denied me visa after asking silly questions relating to my current job; it not being an oil company, my choice of school, if I had travelled out before (I've not) and who my sponsor was; him being an uncle that doesn't bear my surname. These questions I had answered honestly and satisfactorily in my own opinion. The guy no know the current job situation for 9ja? I just dey vex
Anyways, I intend to give it another shot while I look at other good programs in the UK and Canada. I've sent mails to the departments where I was admitted to have them defer my admission but there has been no response. Does anybody know how the deferring thing works in the US? What's wrong with those folks? I'm so sorry bro. But keep trying. I'm expecting a decision come March. For those preparing for visa interviews, visit this thread and read through the pages. It would help a great deal. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-240241.0.htmlWishing every January test-taker success in their exams. |

And once again, i still need soft copy materials , anyone that can help me with soft copy material on GRE should please forward those materials to my mail box smithbguy[at]yahoo[dot]com Read the previous pages. The materials are too large to be sent as attachments but I'll try. |

BlackkBoy: Hi guys. How come I never knew such a forum exists? Believe me, having spend some one hour+ going through the 11 pages of really interesting posts in this forum, I knida feel some regret not to have discovered this group earlier; especially when I realized I could have just obtained some debit cards from some Nigerian banks to make online payments for my GRE scheduling, ASRs and application fees. It's still quite nice to know I have some like-minded individuals I can rub minds with. Perhaps, I should introduce myself as some Nigerian hpoing to matriculate in a decent graduate programme in the US come fall 2010. I will be glad to continually share my little experiences with these 'American runs' with positive minded Nigerians who are or will be interested in following this path.
2good, contratulations on your acceptances. With the assumption that you have applied to, and thus admitted to, masters degree programmes which is a norm that it's sparingly funded; I think the very first thing to consider is funding. Except you are from a really well-to-do background and it's no problem to fund yourself through these programmes, I think an admission that comes with some sort of scholarship should top your list of preference. Welcome bro. I wish you the best in your endeavours. 2good: Thank you all forn your contribution. I believe I am going to have a very big problem deciding on the school to attend come fall 2010 because I applied to a lot of schools and have already gotten admission in three of them. They are: 1. University of Nottingham: Petroleum and Environmental Process Engineering 2. TUDelft: Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience. 3. Eindhoven University of Technology: Chemical Engineering. I am also expecting to hear good news from the following schools 1. Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU): Petroleum Engineering 2. Heriot Watt University: Reservoir Evaluation Management 3. Royal Institute of Technology Stolckolm: Chemical Engineering with Energy Option 4. Louisiana State university: Petroleum Engineering 5. Texas A&M: Petroleum Engineering 6. University of Texas @ Austin: Petroleum and Geosystem Engineering.
I will be needing very good advicers to convice on which of the schools to attend that will give me a better guaranteed future. You advices will also be welcome Guy go for the schools in Texas once you get the admission. LSU should also be an option due to proximity to Texas and LSU also has a very reputable Petroleum Program. |

@ Afrodoc, nice job. @ Others. I took my GRE and TOEFL exams last month. While I was satisfied with my score on the Quantitative section, my Verbal score on the GRE was appalling because I did not prepare for the verbal section. Q-770 V-420 AW-4.0. For the GRE i'll suggest you start out at least three months before your scheduled exam date. If your major is in an engineering field, you shouldn't have any problem with the Quant. You'll need to work on your verbal so as to improve your cumulative score. You can get Barron's material for the TOEFL and GRE at CMS-check the shops by the roadside near CMS bookshop. I don't think you need to go for any classes to ace the TOEFL. With one week of preparation, i was able to score 104 out of 120 on the iBT. All you need is focused preparation.
For the GRE please do not neglect the powerprep software and NOVA gre. I got a couple of pdf files. You need them, let me know. |

Guys, we are very blessed in Nigeria. Forget about what you all are saying. Let's just assume for one second that the bomb had been detonated by Farouk, it would be a very different story entirely. We won't have the FBI and CIA honoring us with their presence Probably we'll all be in a church or mosque praying to God to spare our lives because the bombing would be terrible-especially in the North! January deadlines usually apply to people who apply to top schools for admission and financial aid. For example, MIT's Chemical Engineering department has deadline of January 1 for PhD applicants. Other schools (not the top 20-30) have theirs from February to April depending on the program you're applying for. About the visa stuff, no hassles. The most important thing for one to do is to ensure that one prepares well for the interview. A character that exudes confidence and charisma, alongside the necessary documents should make one scale through the visa process. I'm glad I passed the AW but a 5.0 wouldn't have been bad. You can send your SOP to my email. About my option, I applied directly for PhD for two schools, the rest are MS with the thesis option. I've added you on my yahoo messenger. Hit me up as soon as you can. |

American officials have cause to worry there may be more al Qaeda-trained young men in Yemen planning to bring down American jets. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab told FBI agents there are more just like him in Yemen. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, charged with the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Airlines flight 253, told FBI agents there were more just like him in Yemen who would strike soon. And in a tape released four days before the attempted destruction of the Detroit-bound Northwest plane, the leader of al Qaeda in Yemen boasted of what was planned for Americans, saying, "We are carrying a bomb to hit the enemies of God." Yemen has become a principal al Qaeda training ground and the accused suicide bomber told the FBI he was trained for more than a month in Yemen, given 80 grams of a high explosive cleverly sewn into his underpants, undetected by standard security screening. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/abdulmutallab-yemen-northwest-flight-253-terror-suspect/story?id=9430536 |

olalekan1: it is not irrelevant because pastor chris is a world wide known preacher. So how could his warehouse be shut down due to dirtiness, he preaches a lot to to NIgerian xtians and xtians abroad so how come he cant preach to the warehouse workers to live to their expectation, if they dont have cleaners why cant they get one. SO I dont think it is irrelevant as you said. I get your point. My point is that you shouldn't make conclusions based on write-ups. That's why i said the write-up is irrelevant as it is obviously a case of sensual journalism. Take a visit to the place being talked about and then you'll see it's not as bad as is being propagated. I frequent that area a lot. If the Government want to start shutting down warehouses and factories for such things as Generator noise and improper waste disposal, there are two places they should start with: Oba Akran Avenue and Otta. |
