Christianity EtcRe: A Guide For All Time!!! by superior1: 8:08pm On Jul 23, 2013
striktlymi: Okay, cool!!!

Agreed!!!

Not quite!

I don't know what you mean by the bold but if by the bold you are saying that everything God wants to reveal to the world is contained in Sacred scriptures then I disagree with it.

During the time of the Apostles, Sacred scriptures only contained the old testament. There was nothing like the new testament as we have it in the bible today.

You say there should be no addition but the truth is that the new testament is an addition to sacred scriptures which comprise of just the old at the time of the Apostles.

A number of the things you oppose are actually what was taught by the Apostles themselves. They practiced some form of liturgy by meeting on the first day of the week for the breaking of bread...

Paul preached religion and differentiated this from what is termed 'man made religion' but today everyone wants to denounce religion.

The Apostles subtracted from the old testament when they rejected circumcision and a number of old testament teachings; and most of all, the Apostles did not rely on scriptures to teach...they relied on the holy spirit. If they had relied on scriptures then we wouldn't have had the new testament.
The Old and New Testaments are inspired scriptures and the basis of Christian faith. The teaches inherent are clear and unambiguous. Do you have any problem with this?
Christianity EtcRe: Did The Pope Really Say Sins Can Be Forgiven Via Twitter?? by superior1: 7:17pm On Jul 23, 2013
striktlymi: I can apply the above to indulgence but it is not part of what I quoted for indulgence. I gave only one scriptural backing for indulgence.

If we are starting with indulgence then the appropriate passage would be:
In summary, indulgence is forgiveness of sin before God, can be granted to the living and the dead (you can post a better definition if you chose), indulgence is given by the church appointed official. Now

Can you explain this with Matthew 18:18 (Kindly take it contextualy), or can I build a doctrine on 'Jesus wept' alone without recourse to the context of the event leading to that?, let's study this so we can rightly divide the scriptures
Christianity EtcRe: A Guide For All Time!!! by superior1: 7:06pm On Jul 23, 2013
striktlymi: Look around you and tell me Christians do not appear confused? Don't take this the wrong way but try and visit threads put up here on nairaland and see for yourself...

You are right, God is not one of confusion. He can NEVER lead anyone astray or 'confuse' anyone and that is part of the reason Jesus NEVER wrote or promised any book.

He knows that what he needs to teach the Apostles CANNOT be held by just one or several books. Teaching for him is an ongoing process. It continues till the end of time. That explains why he promised the Holy spirit instead.
I have sure came across several threads that shows the divergent understanding of some individuals as relating to a part of the scriptures but there is nothing absolutely wrong with the scriptures and it is a complete book. 2Timo 2:15 study to show thyself approve. There were various teachings by satanic agents even during the time of Paul. We can only be assured of following the truth when we follow the Bible and nothing but the Bible, no addition, no subtraction, no liturgy, no man made traditions and doctrine, Just the Bible. If it is not in the Bible, it is irrelevant, I will not read or accept any other book or opinion accept that which is written on the pages of the Bible.
Christianity EtcRe: Did The Pope Really Say Sins Can Be Forgiven Via Twitter?? by superior1: 6:50pm On Jul 23, 2013
striktlymi: I can agree with the statement above to a certain extent. Sacred scriptures alone if read with proper guidance from the spirit is sufficient to lead one to heaven, hence other things might not be relevant, if and only if, it is read with proper guidance from the spirit.

No!!! Only saying that you might not get the exact words.

Purgatory implied:

1 John 5:17
New International Version (NIV)

17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15
New International Version (NIV)

13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

Matthew 5:25-26
New International Version (NIV)

25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

For indulgence:

Matthew 18:18
New International Version (NIV)

18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Let's start with indulgence, the scriptures you quoted is better understood from the context (I am sure you will agree with this)

Matthew 18, 15-20

15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

It is talking about settling of quarrel among brethren, we can not infer directly or indirectly, it has anything to do with forgiveness of sin by an individual.
Christianity EtcRe: A Guide For All Time!!! by superior1: 6:10pm On Jul 23, 2013
striktlymi: True but maybe the book is not meant to be THE GUIDE per se...

The book definitely is useful to him but it does not seem to cover everything...
Anything with a beginning must have an end, an incomplete book doesn't worth my attention, the author must be a confusionist. I thank God he is not an author of confusion.
Christianity EtcRe: Did The Pope Really Say Sins Can Be Forgiven Via Twitter?? by superior1: 6:03pm On Jul 23, 2013
striktlymi: I wonder why you are getting worked up over a simple conversation!

You are here on nairaland, it is part of your way of life otherwise you will not be here. Your being here is an acceptance of it.

The point is, everything need not be spelt out word for word in sacred scriptures before they are accepted.

The only things that MUST be rejected are those things that go against the tenets of Sacred scriptures.

If you can't find a particular word in Sacred scriptures and the word does not contradict anything therein, then you CAN'T possibly say that it is not of God because if you hold that view then it would certainly mean that you are also holding an opinion that is not backed by scriptures.
If I don't find it in the scriptures, it is irrelevant then. Are you by this saying indulgence and purgatory isn't in the bible?. If not stated directly, can you atleast provide a not so direct scripture that insinuate them?
Christianity EtcRe: A Guide For All Time!!! by superior1: 5:58pm On Jul 23, 2013
If you have everything you need to know in the book then the book should have a transportation means stated unless you won't need travelling or the book isn't as good as you claimed.

Sincere 9gerian: Read the report again but this time S-L-O-W-L-Y.

The projects mentioned in the report are:
1. the new Federal High Court complex
2. the LGEA Primary School, Bukan Sidi, also called Tanko Al-Makura (TA’AL) Model School
3. the Lafia East Road project connecting Lafia East Project Quarter and Government House Bye-pass
4. helipad under construction

Just four projects in 2yrs. That is ABYSMAL and UNPRECEDENTED FAILURE. Where is the bullet train?

The only good news in the report is the visit of the president to an opposition controlled state. It further shows that this president does not play politics of bitterness or hate.
And why is Jona-dumbo associating himself with such a failure, bird of a feather flock together?

Pope Francis To Forgive Twitter Followers' Sins Online
This were some of the funny headlines many of us saw last week on the social media sites. But did the pope really say he would forgive sins through twitter? What did he really say? While I know many People would never give the catholic church a chance to defend herself but I would appreciate if for the purpose of these particular issue many of you settle down and understand this.
The Pope didn’t say sins would be forgiven through twitter, he said Indulgence could be obtained. The issue now WHAT IS INDULGENCEhuh?, This I would try to explain in simple terms
Catholics believe when we commit sin 2 things happen, we stop the work of divine grace in our souls and then merit hell in case of a mortal sin or at least deserve a certain kind of consequence for our sins, when we repent truthfully and confess this sins, God forgives us but then the sin still leaves a little attachment which as Catholics we believe we must through prayer fasting or other works of charity perform to overcome the attachment to this sin, if we die before we are able to effect a perfect detachment from the attachment to sin, we believe Purgatory is a state in which the remaining attachment to this sin will be removed, the church teaches based on the words of Jesus to the first Bishops, the apostles “whatever you bind on earth shall be bind in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” that By granting indulgence, the church exercises this power to her members who truly have repented of their sins but might not have fully achieved a perfect detachment from their sins to be relieved of the punishment which in this case is time spent in purgatory if they show a genuine desire to want to gain this benefit, the truth is, even if the pope approves the conditions for this indulgence individuals have to genuinely desire it by certain actions which they devotedly do. One of such activities is a pilgrimage to a holy site or event like the world youth day and the Pope has in this case declared that if you genuinely had intended to attend the world youth day event but due to legimate reasons could not attend you can still gain the indulgence by following the programmes with the same devotion as if you were in the event. This programs can be followed either through television or the social networks he never mentioned twitter.
Here is the link from the Vaticanhttp://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/tribunals/apost_penit/documents/rc_trib_appen_doc_20130709_decreto-indulgenze-gmg_en.html
Pls I would entertain genuine questions on areas you need clarification
Where can indulgence and purgatory be found in the Bible?

Christianity EtcRe: Bishop/G.O./Pastor/Teacher: Teach Me Nonsense by superior1: 11:37am On Jul 21, 2013
italo: @Superior1,

Yes, you said baptism is like an ID card...and I said what is the use of an ID card if believers are destined for heaven. I told you that without my ID card, I could be prevented from entering my workplace; are you then saying that I can be prevented from entering heaven without my ID card (baptism)?

That was when NEPA took light in your area (as Syncan would say).

Concerning my 2nd question: it still remains unanswered by all you 5 able-bodied HolySpiritLed contradictory confusionist Bible interpreters.

For the SEVENTH time:

Can a human being baptise another human being with the Holy Spirit?

Its a simple "yes" or "no" question.
Go back and read Acts 11:15 and 16. Your next comment should be on these 2 verses, it answers your questions
Christianity EtcRe: Bishop/G.O./Pastor/Teacher: Teach Me Nonsense by superior1: 11:02am On Jul 21, 2013
Italo, read this carefully, especially 15 and 16, it also all your question

Acts 11
11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cæsarea unto me. 12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house: 13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

italo: @ Bidam,

What then is the use of water baptism if it has nothing to do with salvation?

Can one human being baptise another human being with the Holy Spirit?

None of you five able bodied HolySpiritLed Bible interpreters has been able to answer that question...and I must have asked it up to 6times on this thread?
The previous answers on that same question
superior1: What saves you is not water baptism, water baptism is a physical identification with Christ. What I am saying is you can be water baptised and not be saved( eg, if logic boy get deeped in water in baptism, those that save him?).
superior1: Italo, think of water baptism like your office I'd card. To get the card, you have to be in the company's employment first and then be issued a card. Salvation comes through repentance and believing in Christ, water baptism identifies you as a part of the body of Christ. Now, if you are not an employee or you have left the company's employment, that card is irrelevant and doesn't give you official access. Water baptism is sure relevant to the body of Christ but what saves you is not water baptism.

@all, can we discuss something more relevant to our Christian work and stop this front and back arguments.
So?
