PoliticsRe: Dogo Isuwa: Middle Belt No Longer Part Of North – MBF Leader by superlightning: 9:34am On Jul 27, 2019
MelesZenawi:
Northern leaders have been urged to stop referring to Middle Belt people as Northerners. National Publicity Secretary, Middle Belt Leaders Forum, Dr. Dogo Isuwa who gave the warning also asked former President Obasanjo not to relent in writing letters to President Muhammadu Buhari on key national issues and other matters that affect Nigeria. He described Obasanjo as a patriot who deserves commendation from Nigerians for having the courage to say the truth to those in authority. Isuwa also spoke on other national issues in this interview with TUNDE THOMAS.

What is the Middle Belt Forum’s reaction to reservations expressed by the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, to the regular meetings and the recent joint reactions to national issues by Southern leaders?

Yahaya Kwande and his leader, Prof. Ango Abdullahi who is the Northern Elders Forum President, are daydreaming. They are not only dreaming, they are suffering from illusion. Both men are still living in the past, and the earlier they face the reality, the better. The bitter truth which Ango Abdullahi and Kwande may find difficult to swallow is that the Middle Belt is no longer part of the North. It will be very unfortunate if both men have not come to this reality. For emphasis’ sake, and for further clarification, I’m using this medium to inform both men, and others who still reason along Ango Abdullahi and Kwande’s line that Middle Belt is not part of the North. NEF and its leaders should count the Middle Belt out of their so-called North.

If they are talking about the Middle Belt being located in the northern part of the country geographically, that is another thing, but aside that, we have no relationship again with the North Ango Abdullahi and Kwande are talking about. For us in the Middle Belt, we are an independent entity. Even during the colonial era, and years after colonial era when we were merged with the North, that arrangement never benefitted us. That arrangement was never to the best interests of the Middle Belt as the so-called North oppressed, and persecuted our people. Even up till today, that persecution has continued through killings of Middle Belt people in Zamfara, Benue, Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and Taraba states just to mention a few, and Ango Abdullahi, the Northern Elders Forum President has never spoken out against the killings of Middle-Belt people. And now, he and his NEF members are referring to Middle Belt as being part of their North. What an illusion.

The earlier Ango Abdullahi and his NEF members wake to the reality, the better, and the bitter truth I want to emphasise here again is that they should count the Mddle Belt out of their so-called North. The Middle-Belt is an entity on its own. Our link to the North was during the colonial era ,and few years after the nation’s independence. But we are no longer part of the North,we are now on our own. We don’t want any association with the North. We don’t need the North. I can understand Ango Abdullahi, and his NEF members, they need the Middle Belt because they are used to exploitation of our people. Northern leaders have always been depending on the Middle-Belt to achieve their selfish objectives, but we’ve now removed that yoke, and there is no going back on our decision to remain an independent entity with no link whatsoever with the North again. We don’t need the North.

PoliticsRe: Middle Belt, Southern Leaders’ Alliance Unsettles Northern Elders by superlightning: 12:13pm On Jul 23, 2019
mdshell:
The Northern Elders Forum has expressed fears over perceived alliance between some Middle Belt leaders and their southern counterparts on issues of national interests, describing it as dangerous to northern interests.

The forum’s reaction followed what it called an attempt to distance communities in the Middle- Belt region in the North- Central from decisions and interests of two other zones of the North-West and North-East that formed the old Northern Region of Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Jos on Monday by the Northern Elders Forum and signed by its Deputy Chairman, North-Central Zone, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, the forum insisted that the political divisions in the country remained South-West, South-South and South-East for the southern region while the divisions in the north remained North-West, North-East and North- Central.

The forum vowed to resist any attempt to distort the historical divides and warned those scheming to cause confusion within the northern region to stop henceforth.

The statement read in part, “The Northern Elders Forum is concerned that several statements have been credited to persons claiming to be the leaders of the Middle Belt Forum and their friends in the southern part of our country.

“The statements claim to speak for and on behalf of all citizens and communities in the states of Middle Belt constitutionally known and grouped in the North Central including Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Nassarawa, Plateau and Benue states.

“They also seek to distance our communities from those in the two other zones of the North-West and North-East that form the North and suggest that we are effectively part of the communities in former Southern Nigeria made up of Western, Mid-West and Eastern Nigeria in our political disposition.

“While we share many bonds with other Nigerians from the three southern zones, we wish to emphatically state that we are northerners and have always been so from the creation of Nigeria.

“Our history, destiny and mode of life have always been northern and our region of the Middle Belt is an integral part of the North.

“We therefore reject any attempt to detach our communities from others in the North by negative interests or identify us with political disposition which are fictional.

“We also disagree with the idea of the Middle Belt that goes beyond the geographical area of the present North-Central zone.”

The statement further reiterated the commitment of NEF to continue to work with other Nigerians from other regions to improve the unity and economic well-being of the country.

It also advised those who speak against their identities to stop henceforth, adding that “there are no ambiguities regarding where our interests lie as they are located with the interest of the north.”

Talkaboutit:
A Nigerian university with its own power source. What is this a sci-fi movie? No, it’s 2019 and we’ve got the power. The Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Generates its own electricity and they are looking forward to the benefits.

The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University announced this at a conference. He spoke about the plans for how OAU generates its own electricity.

“One of the key challenges we have is an unstable supply of energy. In fact, it is so erratic that you cannot plan any meaningful research. Luckily now, we are working with Rural Electrification Agency to provide for us a gas-powered turbine that will generate 8.0 megawatts of electricity.”

The energy needed for the university is roughly 6 megawatts. Although once OAU generates it’s own electricity with turbines it will be up to 8.03 megawatts. The excess energy powered up will be used by neighbouring communities. It’s a win for everyone all around.

However, the most surprising news of all is the revelation of the finish time. This project which started 2017, was due to be completed 2 years after. The October finish is way ahead of schedule. A phrase we all know isn’t often used in these parts.

This is a wonderful achievement. Better research conditions for their science facilities. Better living conditions for the students and staff. Let’s hope more universities follow suit. Whether the government can pick up a few tips from this, is another story. For more on who’s criticizing the government view here.

Juliusmalema:
Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has said his administration will begin  the return of schools to missions in September as part of  the effort to  improve the quality of education in the state.

Fayemi said this  in Ado Ekiti on Friday while hosting the Prelate of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, Dr Samuel  Uche.

He  said, “The return of the schools will further stamp the administration’s respect for values.”

He  promised that “the government will work out an efficient and workable model as practised in other states where schools had been transferred  to the missions.”

Fayemi  said his  government would pay the teachers and give the schools  grants  while the missions would take care of administration.

The governor promised to step up the measures put in place by his administration to tackle  farmers-herders clashes  for peace in the state.

He said,  “Anyone caught engaging in any criminal act will be made to face the consequences and addressed as a criminal irrespective of their  tribe.”

The Prelate, who said the purpose of his visit was to pray for the governor and the state, made a  case for the return of some Methodist schools in the state to the mission “so that Godly morals will further be instilled in the pupils.”

Uche described Fayemi as “a good product Ekiti State is lucky to have judging from his antecedents during his first term as governor and as Minister of Solid Minerals Development.”

Adelaide2:
Re: South East (SE) had the lowest IGR in 2018

It appears that the IQ of the average Nigerian is very low. Hence, I read of and see scorn for the SE by others for having the lowest IGR in 2018

But a deeper look would have shown that things are not as straightforward as they seem. IGR is a function of taxing paying. And it is human beings that pay tax. Now, here are the simple issues that should be of concern:

1. Does the SE have low IGR historically? In essence, has there been a trend in the past years that warrants this becoming a sustained fact? If yes, is that linked to population change trend in the zone?
2. What is the population of SE?
3. What is the population of other zones with higher IGR than SE?
4. When the IGR of SE is divided by the population of SE, you get an idea of IGR per person. How does it compare to that of other zones?
5. If SE has the lowest population and correspondingly lowest IGR why should there be any surprise?
6. How many people of SE origin live in other zones and how much do they contribute to the IGR of those zones?
7. Can you live in Jamaica on a permanent basis and still contribute to the IGR of Cameroon?

Evidently, the average Nigerian, especially those on Nairaland, has little ability to reason deeply. No intelligent argument or thought process for the most part. Shame!!!!

PS: most importantly when the Feds have established the habit of taking every development to other zones and none to the SE, how are you supposed to create the pool of taxing payers in the SE zone? Most Igbos are self-surviving individuals and it is human nature that self-surviving individuals will not readily give their money to the govt as taxes.
Gbam! So on point. Don't mind these children e.g. sarrki. they go about trying in futility to ridicule ndigbo.

The major tension on this ruga matter stemmed from the ultimatum by CNG that the FG must resume implementation of ruga in all 36 states within 30 days. The earlier information was that it was voluntary and only interested states would participate. Southern states snd some in d middle belt indicated they would not be part of it so why did the FG stop the implementation in those Northern states that had volunteered and provided land? Is there some form of connection between rejection of ruga in the South and implementation in the North? It is the suspension that made some people decide to threaten southerners resident in d north isn't it?
