Yyeske: You can start from somewhere, the people of Scotland, Catalonia, Québec, Belgium etc didn't just have a referendum inserted in their different nation's constitutions because a group of people wanted it so. They formed parties and had/have representatives in both their regional and national parliaments who speak for them and their call for referendum at any time is seen as legitimate unlike Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB who refused to do same to make their cause legitimate as well. How do you say you speak for a people when there isn't any proof that the people wanted you to speak for them in this modern world. That of Catalonia was clamped down by the Spanish government even if the process the people went about it was legitimate, how much more that of IPOB that is illegitimate. You can only start from somewhere when you are in a country that is working. Catalonia at least freely flies their flag without intimidation. The clamp down was as a result of unilateral declaration when some top guns from Catalonia rejected the idea. At least, they are much better in human and economic development than Nigeria. There is no form of marginalization. They just wanted to opt out because they felt they were more economically bouyant than Spain. |

wirinet: Calling Nigeria a failed state or fantastically corrupt is quite different from calling Nigerians animals or Yoruba Bastards or funlanis barbaric blood thirsty backward thinking power mongers. If any country's leader should spew such, it will certainly spark a diplomatic row. Besides, these things were said in leaked personal conversations and not on official or public communication. What is different about it? Some people really love liessss. Its there in the free press, Nigeria is an international laughing stock. The world leaders who are saying it in hushed tones are simply trying to be politically correct. |

Let's see how these truths will help IPOB achieve Biafra Of course you won't see it from his context. All you do is cherry pick and rant. If its US UK EU, etc that calls Nigeria a "failed", or " fantastically corrupt" nation, you will look the other way. Hypocrites. |

oyatz: This your last post clearly showed that your understanding of the issues at stake is very shallow.
1) Nigeria did not seceed from Britian in 1960. British Colonialism was a period of Foreign rule of indigenous people sustained by military might of the colonialists.
It was a foreign occupation which naturally is bound to be resented by the natives and couldn't have lasted forever. The British knew this from the onset.
2) The opposition to British rule started almost immediately after the advent of colonial rule with Dr Obasa and prominent educated Yoruba elites forming the first Political party , The Peoples's Union in 1909 to galvanized the natives to demand to self rule.
3) Herbert Macaulay and Dr Azikiwe weren't just leaders of pressure groups organizing protests against British rule, they metamorphosed to Political leaders. They formed Political parties (NNDP in 1922 by Macaulay, NCNC in 1946 by Macaulay, Zik, Adewoyin, Olorunnimbe, Michael Imodu &others), contested and won elections to legitimize their aspirations.
3) They sought mandates from the peoples (Conference of ethnic groups in 1950 at Ibadan) where demands for self rule was made loud and clear. 4) Between 1952-1959, several constitutional conferences were held by the Traditional, elected and Political leaders of all the peoples in Nigeria to reach an agreement on independence.
5) The elected Representatives of the colonized peoples became the most vocal campaigners of independence.
In 1953, Hon Tony Enahoro of the Action Group (AG) moved on the floor of the House of REPRESENTATIVES the first motion for the independence of Nigeria by 1956. This didn't go down well with the Northern People's Congress (NPC) members who strongly opposed the motion.
Hon Remilekun Fani-Kayode (the father of FFK) of the Action Group in 1956 moved another motion for independence which again was thwarted by the NPC leadership.
It was after much persuation, horse trading and negotiation with the leaders of the North and the minorities that every body agreed on independence by 1960, hence
Hon SL Akintola of the Action Group finally moved the successful motion for independence in 1959. This was successful. You are referring to a colonial government that was indeed the best government Nigeria had ever had. They gave EAR to the NEEDS and ASPIRATIONS of the people. That was a Nigeria that WAS working and INCLUSIVE. The Nigeria of today isn't working. The political system is a sham. YOU KNOW THIS. stop living in denial. Today you can't even openly aspire for Biafra let alone bringing it to a Nigerian body. Its like a taboo to them. They won't even entertain the thought of it. Who is fooling who? Some of you actually think you are informed but in reality, you are charlatans. |

oyatz: What Kanu is asking for is similar to what Boko Haram is asking for.
Boko Haram are asking for Borno, Yobe and eight other Northern States to be given to them to create an Islamic Country based on the Sharia Legal system and have taken arms to actualize this demand (they aren't exploring the referendum option) Another dubious way of comparing the incomparable. Ipob does not terrorize. Many nations of the world have separatist groups. |

oalandAgents2: Referendum from democratic system he chose not to participate in, why would he now expect the federal government to take him seriously?
Furthermore please correct me if I am wrong, but I cannot recall IPOB or Nnamdi ever seeking to get a mandate from the Igbo people to agitate for Biafra on our behalf, or is by force that Igbos must become Biafra?
Federal government knows all this , in short they cannot take him seriously and him himself cannot be serious. How else do you want the mandate given? When Kanu steps in, people follow. He is a natural leader. He was reluctant but eventually had to work with senator enyinnaya abaribe to speak sense into the igbo political class. Of course they rejected sense and chose to be seen as " corrupted leaders of the defeated". You speak of Democratic system, was it not the same kanu that gave approval for IPOB to vote if they so desire during the last election? He has being trying not to involve himself in national politics... because he is a staunch SEPERATIST. See, if you want to embrace truth, embrace it with your alms wide open. Nigeria is a failed contraption that has deliberately refused to work itself out. Somebody wants to referendum to decide whether his people stays or leaves. He knows Nigerian politicians of all tribes are corrupt because the system itself is corrupt. Why facing a man who believes in his people's dream of a separate state of biafra? |

oalandAgents2: Please my Igbo family why is Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB agitating for freedom? Is he not free?
Somebody else mentioned IPOB is seeking a referendum, but did not state who he is seeking that referendum from.
Is it possible to achieve referendum whilst remaining outside of the politics of the country and existing democratic structures? You seem out to discredit kanu and IPoB. But let me keep observing. Nnia NWODO also cried out on news tabloids that Nigerian politicians are treating IGBOS as a defeated people. Does that not mean something to you? Anyway, freedom fighting is about breaking free from a failed political system. That's kanu's pursuit. On your final question, it is possible. The idea is to force our corruption-ridden politicians to listen, adjust and at least, RESTRUCTURE our region for the greater good (but for IPOB, the ultimate agenda of achieving biafra over time) |
Politics › Re: IPoB: Igbos come here and discuss Biafra agitation as led by Nnamdi Kanu by superlightning: 12:11pm On Jun 26, 2019 |
Nnamdi Kanu is a clan prince who graduated from London Metropolitan University. He studied Political Economics.
With the disaffection he gradually developed for the Nigerian Political system and his desire for a better standard of life for eastern Nigeria, he initially moved for the restoration of the defunct regional system of government via MASSOB. This was before 2012, he later opted for biafra unconditionally.
But on seeing the impossibility of the goal partly due to MASSOB leader's (uwazurike's) compromise on the eventual reality of Biafra, and also, the lack of respect for the rule of law towards national equity by Nigerian politicians, he gave up lobbying through Nigeria's politicians.
Then came the formation of IPOB, a registered freedom fighting movement in over 30 countries worldwide and Radio Biafra, the tool he used in propagating the biafran cause.
He didn't force an IPOB establishment... The members naturally followed him. Kanu is bold, assertive, informed and charismatic, these leadership qualities made it easy for him to win followers.
He was arrested and jailed for "hate speech", yet the real agents of division are still out there killing maiming and raping Nigerians.
All he asks for at the moment is a REFERENDUM to conducted to know those wants to remain in Nigeria or opt for biafra. Is that a crime?
He has warned against the herdsmen attack, that was why he instituted a vilgilante group. But lo, dubious Nigerians claim he wants to cause mayhem. Now everyone is weeping with 'style'. Good morning.
I want a United and equitable Nigeria, but what I want does not exist. So, my sweetheart now is biafra and I pray for the day it comes. |
