Attempts by Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners Chapel, Ota, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, to make members of his congregation pray for President Goodluck Jonathan to win the 14 February Presidential election backfired on Sunday when some members refused to stand up from their seats to pray for Jonathan. Bishop Oyedepo had asked members to stand up to pray for Jonathan who came to the church for prayers to win the election, but some members of the congregation who were not happy with Jonathan’s performance refused to stand up. They remained seated and refused to pray for Jonathan. This did not however stop the prosperity preacher from praying for Jonathan. Worshippers and clergymen got more than they expected with the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to the headquarters of the church, located in Ota, Ogun State, western Nigeria on Sunday, when the church was hit with condemnations and criticisms from Nigerians. President Jonathan, with some of his aides, the Chief of Staff to the President, Jones Arogbofa and the Executive Secretary, Christian Pilgrim Board, Mr. Kennedy Okpara, worshipped at the church during its third service after they arrived the church premises in a helicopter. A few minutes after his departure, however, the internet went buzzing with the news of his visit as bloggers latched on to whatever they could gather. Many of them ended up misquoting and misinforming the public thus resulting in the outrage that greeted the President’s visit. Nigerians were provoked by the statement falsely credited to the General Overseer of the church, Bishop David Oyedepo, saying he would open the gates of hell upon anyone who opposed Jonathan’s re- election. Some of the bloggers even claimed that he warned his church members against voting for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, and that anyone who went against this remains a candidate of hell. The bloggers’ false interpretation of Oyedepo’s admonition irked Nigerians who saw this as an affront on their mentality and wondered if Oyedepo was God or if he actually had the keys to hell. While some Nigerians said they were shocked that Oyedepo could make such a comment, others went comic calling him a man of “small gods.” Unfortunately, however, many of these bloggers and news writers were not in the church during the President’s visit, but they all attributed their news to sources within the church. Our correspondent who attended the third service of the church which was also attended by the President, his aides and politicians in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Lagos and Ogun states, reports that the drama however began from the church. Before his preaching during the service, Bishop Oyedepo had given President Jonathan the opportunity to address the congregation. Spending very few minutes, Jonathan, who said he did not want to say much so that Nigerians would not think he only attended the church to campaign, urged the members to pray for the country ahead of the general elections. He said his call for prayers was necessitated by the various predictions by leaders and clergymen about the elections and their outcome. “There are various predictions concerning the election, but I trust God to take control of the situation,” Jonathan said. He also commended Bishop Oyedepo for his commitment to God’s work and to education, adding that only through education of its citizens would a country develop and progress. “I commend Bishop Oyedepo for his commitment to the work of God and education, without education we can’t achieve much,” he added. While some of the church members were excited to see Jonathan, others grumbled, saying he had suddenly turned to the Winners Chapel after he discovered that he is no longer welcomed at the Redeemed Christian Church of God since a senior pastor of the church, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, is now the running mate to Buhari who is contesting against Jonathan in the election. Some also whispered that the pastors in the country were not helping matters as they are not acting like prophets and leaders in the Bible who spoke truth to people in power. After his speech, the Bishop asked that the church members stand up and pray for the President. He asked that since God always answered prayers of the church members, they should pray for God to give the President the wisdom and strength to rule the country and the unusual grace to lead the nation. Our correspondent noted that while many stood up and prayed fervently, some sat down, while some used the opportunity to pray for themselves. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/01/26/oyedepos-church-divided-over-prayer-for-gej/ http://saharareporters.com/2015/01/27/bishop-oyedepos-church-divided-over-prayer-president-jonathan |
EUROBOMBER:why ur teeth not funny at all |
Is it the religious bigot and Islamic fundamentalist, Muhammadu Okechukwu Buhari that Summons the chief Imams? Remember, Muhammadu Buhari's last pilgrimage to Mecca was 12 years ago. On the other hand, Jonathan invariably lives and dines with Pastors every minute and often 'sleeps' in their houses- all in the bid to win the so called Christian votes, despite obvious failure of Him and his party for 16 years. It is only RIGHT when a Christian politician associates with his Pastors, but very WRONG when a Moslem politician associates with his Imams. It is also on record, that outside the usual islam prayers, Okechukwu Buhari has not been known or seen fraternising with Imams at every nook and cranny of Nigeria. But ironically, he is the bigot and fundamentalist of all times. - Hypocrisy of the Jonathanians! |

Facing the prospects of a resounding loss of the presidency in three weeks, President Goodluck Jonathan at the weekend summoned Christian leaders to a meeting on Monday at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja. At the event, which comes after several of the Christian leaders publicly turned their backs on his campaign, sources say Jonathan will ask them what he can do differently to earn their support. A series of reports from the field reportedly shows that Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to be making progress with a lot of religious leaders, especially in the North. Several of the delegates that have arrived in Abuja said they were invited by a variety of bodies, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which is headed by President Jonathan’s friend, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. http://saharareporters.com/2015/01/25/jonathan-summons-christian-leaders-abuja

President Goodluck Jonathan said on Monday that his successor would not have any difficulty fighting corruption because of the technology his administration is putting in place to fight the menace. Addressing party supporters at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, campaign rally in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Mr. Jonathan, who is the presidential candidate of the party, promised to end corruption in Nigeria, if given the mandate to run the country for another four years. “I promise you if you vote for me and I come back and serve this country in the next four years, the next persons that will become the president of this country will not talk about corruption because we are working on technology and we will use technology to block all these areas through which people are corruptly enriching themselves,” he said. Mr. Jonathan, who has severally accused of condoning corruption, added: “Today we are talking about IT. We are no longer in the analogue generation. So we want to deploy IT to solve problems and I tell you in the next five years nobody will harass the next president for not fighting corruption because I will solve the problem of corruption in this country.” The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, had promised during one of his campaign rallies last week that he would jail corrupt leaders. However, Mr. Jonathan, who assured of his commitment to stamp out corruption, said he would not do so by sending corrupt Nigerians to jail. He said his administration has prosecuted more people than any past administration in the country. He said, “But let me assure Nigerians about my commitment and my method of solving the problem of corruption or fighting is not the number of people I tried and jailed. “In terms of people I tried and jailed, maybe I will give you the statistics on my subsequent outing because I have asked them to give me the comprehensive statistics. “We have tried more Nigerians. More Nigerians have been jailed within this period, but we followed due process. But I used to tell people that even if I tried 10 million Nigerians and jailed five million Nigerians for corruption, I have not solved the corruption problem. “For you to stop corruption, you must use modern technology to prevent people from stealing. And that is what we are working on. The oil industry is a good area. We are working very hard. I don’t just want to say certain things. All these people have so much money that they will do everything to stop us.” Mr. Jonathan criticised Mr. Buhari for promising to abolish the office of the First lady if he was elected. The president said he would not do so because the office and other women associations are used as a channel to empower the country’s women. He said, “They said they are going to ban the office of the first lady, they are going to ban the office of the governors’ wives, they are going to ban the office of local government chairman, they are going to ban the Defence officers wives, army officers wives association, naval officers wives association, police officers wives association. “But me, having served as deputy governor, governor, vice president and president, I can tell you that these offices are helping us to mobilize our women. And these offices are encouraged to set up NGOs. They money they spend does not come from government budget. They run NGOs. “Nigeria had a lot of philanthropists. They want spend money and they use some of these channels to empower our women. You don’t have to turn them to baby factory alone. “I promise the Nigeria that if we open international magazines parading women I want to see Nigerian women in those magazines. The Nigerian women on their own have struggled to reach the highest positions in their country. I am making deliberate effort to try to put you on the international limelight. That is what I am doing. I don’t believe that you are designed to pound yam for me. “I don’t think your duty is merely to procreate. But you cannot be a baby factory manufacturing children and doing nothing because my conviction is that as a biologist, the brain God gave men and women equally. Physically men are more endowed but both men and women and equally endowed in brain. Mr. Jonathan said he had always believed that “any human population that does not give equal opportunity to women you are not exploiting 50% of their brains.” He added, “For me we must exploit 50% of their brains for the purpose of developing this country. That is why you see so many women holding top offices in my cabinet and we will encourage them the more. I don’t believe women should not be given top positions. If that is the belief of others so be it. A vote in 2015 is a vote to liberate them or imprisoned them to the kitchen.” Mr. Jonathan paid tribute to some Yoruba leaders, including the first Premier of Western Region, Obafemi Awolowo, the late Chairman of the defunct National Party of Nigeria, NPN, Adisa Akinloye, a former governor of Oyo State, Lam Adesina, a former Minister of Justice, Richard Akinjide and the late Lamidi Adedibu, all of who he described as “great men who have led the country and are still leading.” He added that “We want to model our leadership after them because they achieved greatness.” Mr. Jonathan described Ibadan as the political headquarters of the South West just as he paid tribute to the people of the region. According to him, it was the people of the region that encouraged him to convoke the 2014 National conference. “Ibadan is a leading light to all parts of this country. South West has played great in education. The south west encouraged me to start the National Dialogue. I have to give that accolade to the South West. You donated one of yours who was the pioneer to set the agenda. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/174816-ill-rid-nigeria-corruption-given-another-chance-jonathan.html

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) leader and frontline grassroots mobiliser in Lagos , Ibrahim Odofin , has joined the All Progressives Congress ( APC ). The President of Ojomu Youth Forum and a former PDP chairmanship candidate in Eti- Osa Local Government urged the people to vote for the APC presidential candidate, Gen . Muhammadu Buhari . Odofin , who runs a security company on Lagos Island , urged voters to reject the ruling party because the PDP - led government “ is anti -masses and selfish. ” He announced his membership of APC at a meeting with the leaders of ethnic groups in Eti- Osa as well as commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators. Odofin said he moved to the APC having realised the good plans it has for the people. According to him , it is clear that the PDP - government has demonstrated its lack of ideas on how to move the country forward by failing to address power , corruption, infrastructure, and insecurity problems. “ Now is the time for people to really embrace change in the interest of the nation . I stand here before you today to tell you that I’m no longer a member of the PDP . I have left them because they don ’t have any good plan for the country. “ Vote for all the APC candidates; vote for Akinwunmi Ambode as governor and all our members of House of Assembly and the National Assembly . We are all tired of the PDP and we must send them out with our votes .” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/lagos-pdp-mobiliser-joins-apc/ |
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned Tuesday’s attack on President Goodluck Jonathan’s convoy by suspected thugs in Katsina. Muhammadu Buhari, for the attack, which took place during the President’s campaign rally in Katsina. A statement on Wednesday by ... The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, PDP, has distanced itself from a newspaper advert sponsored by Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, suggesting the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, will die in office if voted president. In the advert published by Punch, Mr. Fayose compared Mr. Buhari to past heads of state and president who died in office. He urged Nigerians to choose President Goodluck Jonathan as life against Mr. Buhari, whom he said represents death. The publication sparked outrage Monday, will calls on Mr. Jonathan and the PDP to denounce the governor’s action. On Tuesday, the media director for Mr. Jonathan’s campaign team, Femi Fani- Kayode, told journalists in Abuja that the governor’s position did not represent the opinion of Mr. Jonathan or the campaign organisation. “Governor Ayo Fayose is a distinguished leader of our party. A democratically- elected governor and someone we have immense respect and affection for and he released this advert in his own name. That represents his own personal opinion which he is entitled to. “What I can tell you on our part as the Presidential campaign organisation is that it does not represents the opinion of the Presidential Campaign Organisation or indeed the President, it is his opinion, which he is entitled to and he is somebody that we have immense respect for, he is a leading member of the party, I have spoken with him and we respect him. “But for anybody to suggest that this is the position of the presidential campaign organisation or President Goodluck Jonathan, that will be most unfair,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said. He added: “If we wanted to say something like that we will say it without any kind of apology but of course, we will never say that because we believe in the sanctity of life. Age is not a function of how long you will live. “It is important that we recognise the fact that age is not an indication of how long somebody will live. We believe strongly that we must continue to show immense respect to the person of General Buhari,” he said. Mr. Fani-Kayode said the party will however continue to raise questions on the issue of Mr. Buhari’s health, insisting, “We believe it is important to always raise question about facts, you know what these questions are and we will continue to raise them.” According to him, “We do not wish him ill, we do not wish him dead, we wish him long life and we believe strongly that such sentiment can be aired by individuals certainly not in our name. “Fayose never said that he was speaking on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan but for his own self and he said that he issued it in his name. And I have emphasised that, that is his opinion and he is entitled to it. “I could only disown if a statement was purportedly made on our behalf and in fairness to him, he never said that, what is important is to emphasise that fact that his position does not represent our position on this. He is entitled to that position, he is a leading member of our party. We have immense respect for Fayose just as we have immense respect for General Buhari and we will not allow anybody to attribute something to us that we did not say. “So it is his statement and he is entitled to it. It doesn’t represent our position and he never said he represented our position.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/175313-pdp-disowns-fayose-buhari-death-advert.html
