SimiBrasil: The Nigerian institution of marriage is unconventional by western standards. The traditional and Islamic systems of polygamy flourish within every social class. Women expect very little from men in terms of companionship, personal care, and fidelity. Their relationships exist without the emotional elements.
Polygamy is a crucial component of many women's lives. Women depend on the other wives of their husbands. The younger co-wives take on many of the household and financial responsibilities. As women get older they have the comfort of knowing that the burden of their marriage does not fall solely on their shoulders.
A woman's postion in society changes vastly once they marry since she becomes a possession, with relatively no rights in her husband's family. In fact, the husband's mother and sisters have much more of an influence over him than his own wife. The wife resents this lack of control or even respect within their marriage.
The Nigerian system of inheritance reflects the lack of male responsibility to his wife and children. If a husband dies, the woman usually receives nothing, although the law entitles her to a share. If she has no children, the treatment is worse. Since property can only pass between the same sexes, women can never inherit from their fathers.
Within marriage, women have an obligation to have children. Traditionally, society blames the woman for a marriage without children. Society not only condemns women who cannot have children, but unmarried and divorced women as well.
In recent years, the support of the co-wives has diminished. Modern developments of mandatory education, urbanization, and capitalism are changing the Nigerian society. Since 1960, educational opportunities have expanded for women. Slowly men are beginning to see the value of higher education for their wives. Now, more often than not, they send their daughters to school for an education. this is absolutely rubbish. it's a shame the poster didn't highlight what the nigerian men bring to the table in relationships/marriage. most men foot all the utility bills/rents/car maintenance and pocket money for their spouses. what do nigerian women expect? equal rights? hell to the no! |

But on an unusual day, I have seen John Terry and Rio in goal for their teams ( When Injury beckons, Alex Song was drafted to central defence) this is so wrong. i thought neville was fit before the cl final in moscow and sir alex/carlos queiroz still played brown, vidic, carrick, hargreaves and scholes. you are pointless, dk. |

Also in that great team was Fabio Gallo and Machello Mehli, please where are these guys? the player u were talking about is massimiliano cappellini wearing jersey number 11. he is tall almost luca toni-esque but i have never seen a more dangerous opponent against any nigerian team. cappellini nearly broke lemmy isa's spine with some trade mark shots and deft touches. he scored twice on the night but referee disallowed both goals. . . . i can never forget cappellini and yuri nikiforov(ussr) in that tournament. |

edoyad: The evidence of Rooney's uneffectiveness needs no more validation than UNITED'S splashing of $##m(who knows how much they really bought that thing) on Berbatov. They're desperate and can't give the guy the boots, just like MADRID can't give Raul the boots. Irrational purchases can never replace genuine team planning, policy and implementation like those guys at EMIRATES do. which explains why arsenal has not won the league in four years. this is the fifth season for arsenal without a league title. it's obvious the team planning, policy and implementation at arsenal is nothing to write home about. |

nalijah07: I'm seeking advice for one of my good friends, so please go easy on us
She is divorcing her husband after many years of mistreatment on his part. The snag is that the house they own is in his and his mother's name. His mother has never paid a penny towards the mortgage, but is now threatening to not sign off on the sale of the house because she is upset that this woman is divorcing her son. She is using the excuse that she is trying to come up with the money to buy out the daughter-in-law, of her share of the home.
My friend does not want to wait for the family to see if they can come up with the money, because the house has been for sale for over a year and they finally have a solid offer. If they reject the offer and the family can not come up with the money, they will have to start back from square one and possibly wait months before they receive another offer. Meanwhile she is living with this man in near agony.
She told her husband in no uncertain terms, that if his mom does not sign off on the house, she will stop helping him with the mortgage and let the house go into foreclosure, and no one will get a penny. The husband is stuck because he is trying to appease both his family and the wife.
Also, she has began to receive harassing phone calls from her sister-in-law, who has taken it upon herself to do the talking for the mother-in-law. it's a win-win situation for her. this is america for crying out loud, not nigeria. her statement of account will show she is the one paying the mortgage of the house so there's proof. besides, it does not matter whose name is on the house. as long as they have cohabitated for more than 6 months, even if they are not married, she is entitled to 50% of the proceeds. a man can never win with a woman in the usa/uk. the laws are designed to protect women like her. your friend is very safe. |

McKren: What may have won this match for us is history
Our boys no play anything you can say that again. we couldn't even keep the ball in the dying minutes of the game. nigerian players were still lumping balls forward aimlessly to tired strikers thus giving the ball back to the south africans. the referee was reluctant to blow the final whistle, he played 5 mins when he should have stopped at 4. south africa had a late corner and nigerian defenders were ball watching instead of closing down. there's so much work to do on that team. |

south africa deserve a lead at least but they have been wasteful in front of goal.
they have created more chances and nigeria's goalkeeper is the busier goalie. |

the standard of nigerian football keeps nose-diving.
defenders kept lumping aimless passes forward, attackers are not running the channels and the whole display has been insipid.
the best chance was wasted by uche. a good pass in the 6 yards and he shot over the bar with the far side of the goal gaping.
nigeria should just rely on the team that went to the olympics.
south africa had good chances to put the game beyond nigeria but credits should be given to the nigerian goalie. |

He was in a class of his own during that AFCON and Panathinaikos; I just pray he surprises SAF the more when he plays against very experienced players in the Premierleague. in david gill's interview last night, he said manucho could go on to be sir alex's biggest signing this decade. the only problem man united have now is how to keep everyone happy. 4 top strikers will be hard to please with rotation. 4-2-3-1 is the safest option(let the trinity play behind dimi). |
