Yes, he started off well and he was on my list of the Yoruba governors I like - but he failed woefully at the end. I don't think you can put that on him cos the state is very poor and the meagre allocations can't sustain the big dreams he had.

He should have looked for ways to increase the state's IGR before embarking on that big dream. I believe a lot Yorubas in the new world visit Osun annually for all kinds of festivals. That's one area he should have invested heavily in and perhaps other areas to boost the state's revenue - before anything else. Regardless, I like a lot of his policies though.
Aregbe was never sincere. He is more of. A noise maker than realist.

He does not think through his plans before acting or implementing.

He is not a leader worthy of emulation in anyway.

Ben Bruce lacks the common sense that he always talk about. A little research into the matter would have reveal to him that NCC simply applied the terms of an agreement that MTN subscribed to voluntarily. When you sign up to a rule, you have a responsibility not to breach that rule hence, sanctions will be applied.

If the Federal government refuses to wield the big stick against MTN, other international companies in Nigeria will not think twice before flouting our rules. Any talk about the fines scaring away foreign investors is pure rubbish. Any investor that cannot play by the rules should stay out of Nigeria.
Bruce is scared because the news will scare aware the dodgy investors he intends using his position to invite to Nigeria.

Politics › MTN Must Comply With The Rules Of Host Countries – South Africa Insists by superstar1(op): 4:48pm On Nov 05, 2015
The Deputy President of the South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has urged Africa’s biggest telecommunication company, the MTN Group Ltd., to abide by the rules in countries where it is operating.

This came as a result of the $5.2 billion fine imposed on MTN by telecoms industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), for failing to disconnect customers with unregistered phone cards.

NCC gave MTN until November 16 to pay the fine.

Ramaphosa, in an address to lawmakers in Cape Town yesterday, said:

"The government would be taking note of what is happening with a view of seeing how the company involved responds and reacts to its challenges.
We would like our companies to comply with the laws and regulations of countries where they operate, without violating them.
It does seem like in the case of Nigeria, there were issues, and those issues need to be addressed. If this fine is indeed imposed as it is, it is going to impact on South Africa as well, as our revenue fortunes from a taxation point of view are going to be lower"

Unfortunately for MTN, there are speculations  that South African authorities might leave MTN to face its problem as it seeks to have the penalty reduced.

South African authorities might also be reluctant to confront their Nigerian counterparts following a series of diplomatic spats that have soured relations between the Africa’s two biggest economies.
Politics › Re: MTN Wants $5.2bn Fine Slashed By 80% by superstar1(m): 11:38am On Nov 05, 2015
Were they signatories to the penalty or not?

Were they not warned severally or not?

Why did others complied and mtn did not?

Can they breach the national security of any other country without its consequences?

If they want to leave, they can leave. MTN is a national security risk.
Politics › Re: Ben Murrays Bruce Caution NCC, Says It Send Wrong Signals To Investors by superstar1(m): 11:20am On Nov 05, 2015
That is a big fat lie.

It send a message of this is a sane country where you must play by the rules and a country where the business climate is clearly defined with its rules and penalties.

Which company can toy with the national security of US, UK, China, Russia, Iran or North Korea?

Just tell your companies that there is a new no-nonsense government in town.

Going forward, they should learn to play by the rules.

If it was during the days of a particular administration - where stealing is not corruption and yams are kept with the goats, I am sure MTN would have been laughing at NCC hysterically.

How do you register 62m sim cards within 6 months, this law was impliment just to catch more especially MTN, not only did all the networks comply, the NCC statement clearly stated that other networks did not fully comply also, so the question is why weren't they charged? its clearly show that MTN was the main target and they fell for the trick, bad management on the side of MTN. Heads will roll after all this drama.
If the lines were disabled today, I can assure you all concerned people would have registered their lines within 6weeks.

Are people not registering for BVN by force?
Politics › Re: Buhari Using Mega Fines On MTN, Banks To Raise Money - Mail & Guardian by superstar1(m): 6:55am On Nov 05, 2015
We do not care whatever the media decide to write.

The gaunt has been let down --- there is any new government and sherrif in town that will not take nonsense from any one because this government does not take bribe and it also recognises stealing as corruption. This government will never open our barn.of yams to the goats.

US has been fining companies that erred billions of dollars, we never saw this kind of report.

If up holding our law is raising funds, so be it. Laws are meant to be respected by all, most especially socially responsible companies. When you break the law, you must be ready to bear the consequences.

MTN repeatedly violated NCC rules with impunity, putting out nation under security threat. Kidnappers and boko harams were using their networks for fun. That is aiding and abetting of a crime. The top management of mtn ought to be jailed.

Isn't the meagre oil money the same reason why some of these lazy folks like "one-Nigeria"? How much do they even get from the oil? They all shared N300 billion last month. That's about £1 billion. How can you even develop and run a country of over 180 million heads with something as small as that? Bear in mind that 50% of the money will be looted, while 30% will go to recurrent expenditure - with only 20% left for the people. grin You can make over 10x in other sectors if these folks can leave the oil alone and diversify the economic.

London (not the UK) generates over 20x what the whole Nigeria shared last month, monthly from banking alone. And that's just a city. The South South folks need to take their oil and keep it to themselves - and let's see if these folks won't get busy.
SW has the capacity to generate as much, if and only if, Nigeria can be restructured back along the regional line.

This is another major problem... EDUCATION
Our children are no longer going to school. Those who attend, stop at the secondary school level especially when they fail jamb/p.jamb in 2/3 attempts, the next thing they impregnate(boys)/ get pregnant (girls). When you mention the word "tout" - You know what comes to mind..

Only 2 types of parents push their children to school::
1. Those who are learned and it is like an abomination for their children not to go to school and even exceed the height they've attained.
2. Those who are not learned and are full of regrets, they work very hard to ensure their children surpass that height they wish they attained..

Yes, our education system is not encouraging at all, a lot of children don't even know why they are in school..
I quite agree with you and the alarming rate of drop outs is dominated by Muslims and this is very worrisome.

Where do you Ibos get all these nonsense statistics from? You should get some education about revenue generation laws in Nigeria before displaying your ignorance publicly. Lagos state does not generate majority of it internal revenue from seaports, markets and entertainment.

All the ports in Lagos are operated by the federal government and the Nigeria customs service is in charge of administering the duties charged on importation and exportation. State governments have nothing to do with with levelling taxes on imported and exported products. States are only allowed majorly to administer personal income tax, capital gains tax (individual), registration of business premises etc.

And your argument about Lagos state generating huge revenues from markets and entertainment is very funny. Those traders pay little or nothing as taxes to the state government. Their contributions is very insignificant when you look at the average monthly revenue generated by Lagos state.
What do you expect from educated illiterates?

They never take their time to do research and to find out the truth. before accepting half truth as truth.

What nonsense are you talking about, is the matter not before the federal high court, which verdict is been awaited by Ondo and Delta state. How IIaje take be itshekiri , why are they at the court disputing the owner of the oil wells.
The fact that the case is in court does not mean it has merit.

The question remains how does Igbokoda sounds like itshekiri? For you to have an oil well somewhere you must have the land and your people there. Which part of Ondo do you have Itshekiris? Are the lands contiguous? Capital no.

That does still not dispute the fact that SW produce more oil than SE. #Fact.

Rayhut:
Ondo oil wells belong to Ishekiri land of Delta state, It was Obasanjo that ceded some Delta state oil wells to Ondo, the litigation process is still going on at the federal high court, very soon they will revert the Ondo oil wells to its owners Delta state as they did between Akwa ibom and Cross River.
So Ilajes are itshekiris or Igbokoda sounds itshekiri-like to you?

Y1bos and their fixation on yorubas. They know the histoy of yoruba land more than even yoruba people.

It is expected, when their forefathers never created any history for them to learn, how will they not keep themselves busy by learning the history of others. If they even took their time to learn the correct history, we wil even be happy for them. They only learnt the warped one that will make them feel good with themselves.
