The visiting side are currently in
fifth place on the table, seven
points off the pace, while Spurs
are in ninth, just one point
behind Sunday's opponents.
The stats do not make good
reading for the team from the
capital: Spurs have beaten the
Old Trafford side on just one
occasion in the last 28 matches
and have not beaten their
northern rivals at home since
2004.
United go into this match on
the back of a 5-0 win over
Bayer Leverkusen in the
Champions League and are
unbeaten in their last 11
matches in all competitions.
Spurs meanwhile have not
scored in their last three league
encounters, with their last
Premier League win coming
just over a month ago.
Coach Andre Villas-Boas is
expected to make a host of
changes from the side that beat
Tromso in the Europa League
on Thursday as he looks for a
positive reply to the club's last
Premier League outing, which
ended in a 6-0 defeat at the
hands of Manchester City.
The London side will also be
without injured trio of Christian
Eriksen, Danny Rose and Harry
Kane, while Emmanuel
Adebayor's groin strain makes
him an injury doubt.
There is a boost for Red Devils
manager David Moyes, who
should have Robin van Persie
and Nemanja Vidic available
again after their respective
groin and head problems.

Christianity Etc › An Exclusive Interview With Pastor W.F Kumuyi by sureteeboy(op): 9:53am On Nov 28, 2013
The founder and the General
Overseer of Deeper Life Bible
Church, Dr W.F Kumuyi in an
interview with Elife talks about
his Christian Faith, why his
church was named Deeper Life
and the real meaning of his
name.
Pastor Kumuyi narrated why he
changed his original name
Ikumuyiwa meaning “death
brought this” to Kumuyi.
Excerpts:
African names have
meanings. What does Kumuyi
mean?

The full name is Ikumuyiwa,
which means ‘death brought
this”. After I became a Christian,
I realised it was the death of
Christ that has brought us
salvation, and also the
redemption and reconciliation
we have with God. So, for me,
the name, Ikumuyiwa, is very
significant – death has brought
something good. The death of
Christ has brought us the grace
and goodness of God, and the
relationship we have now with
the Lord.
How many siblings do you
have?

I have two siblings – a sister
who is three years younger
than I am, and a brother who is
far much younger, 18 or 19
years younger than I am. Both
of them are in Nigeria . My
sister lives in Ondo State . A
born-again Christian, she
attends Deeper Life. My brother
lives in Osun State, and he is
also in the Church. Both of them
are following the Lord.
You left the Anglican Church
for the Apostolic Church. What
made you switch?

I was teaching in Mayflower
School, my alma mater. I
completed my secondary school
education in 1961, and started
teaching mathematics at
Mayflower in 1962. It was there
that I was introduced to the
Apostolic Faith, not Apostolic
Church, and really heard about
the change that Christ could
make to our lives when we
turned from our sins and
believed in him and how he
died for us on the cross of
Calvary. It was there that I had
the salvation experience and
things really turned up for me.
You became a born-again
Christian at the age of 23, on
5th April 1964. Do you still
remember what happened?

Yes, a preacher was preaching
a simple message, and because
I had become almost like a
moralist in the sense that I
protected my name and
personality, when that preacher
preached, I saw that it was not
just our actions that made us
unacceptable to God, even our
wrong thoughts and wrong
plans or planning our lives as if
God didn’t exist, also made us
unacceptable. I then realised
that I needed God. And when
the preacher made an altar call,
he pointedly said if “anybody
needed Christ to fill the void in
their lives, such people should
come forward”, I felt drawn to
what he was saying. I went
forward, knelt down and
prayed.
In fact, it was such an
important day for me that I still
remember it to this day, even
where I knelt, how it all
happened, and the peace and
joy that came to my heart, that
now I was reconciled with God
through Jesus Christ. It was
very definite.
Was it in Lagos ?
No, it was in Ijebu-Ode in Ogun
State , about one-and-a half
hours drive from Lagos.
Why did you call it Deeper
Life?

Actually it came from the
people. When they received the
articles, they came to the Bible
studies and said: “We’ve been
Christians before, but this one
is deeper than what we used to
know.” So they used the name
Deeper Life. We also knew that
we were leading them to
deeper relations with God; that
is how those articles became
Deeper Christian Life Articles.
Then as we continued with the
Bible studies, the group
became known as the Deeper
Christian Life Ministry. And
when it became a Church in
1983, we called it the Deeper
Life Bible Church.
Are you saying the name,
Deeper Life, didn’t come from
you?

Well, yes and no. We called the
articles we sent out “Deeper
Life Articles”. The people
themselves were saying those
articles were deepening their
Christian lives. So the name
came from both sides.

Jan Vertonghen thinks Tottenham's critics are making a mistake by writing off their season.

Andre Villas-Boas' position as Spurs boss has come under scrutiny this week after his team followed up their loss to Newcastle with a humiliating 6-0 reverse at Manchester City.

Tottenham will slip closer to the bottom half of the table if they lose to in-form Manchester United on Sunday, but Vertonghen sees no reason to panic even though the team have already lost four times.

The Belgian remembers how Tottenham and Villas-Boas came under pressure at roughly the same time last season following three straight defeats.

Spurs responded by losing just one of their next 16 league games and Vertonghen is hoping the team can go on a similar run this term.

"You cannot write us off," the Spurs defender said.

"We did not do well in this period last year with losses against Wigan and City and Arsenal. But we had incredible months in December and January and I think that is what we are aiming for now.

"We want to do well in those two months and then I think we can be back easily because the top half of the table is so strong that everybody can win."

Tottenham's confidence increased on Thursday night when they beat Tromso 2-0 in freezing conditions deep inside the Arctic Circle.

Still, the performance was hardly vintage Spurs and you do not have to be a football expert to know that United will pose a much stiffer challenge than Tromso, who were relegated from Norway's top-flight three weeks ago.

The Norwegians have no-one who is anywhere near as good as Wayne Rooney, who had a helping hand in four of United's five-goal blitz in Leverkusen in midweek.

Rooney will have taken encouragement from the way Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo tore Tottenham's flat defence apart last weekend.

Vertonghen thinks the Spurs back four may be in for an even tougher ride this weekend when they come up against Rooney and Robin van Persie.

"Rooney and Van Persie are quite similar to the City strikers," the former Ajax man said.

"They move well and play better and better together now.

"They are at least the same level as Negredo and Aguero. They are unbelievable.

"They are the most important players of the team but the strength of Manchester United is that they have always been stronger as a team together."

Vertonghen insists Tottenham will not be petrified about the prospect of facing Rooney and co, however.

The defender believes confidence has been restored somewhat following the victory in Tromso.

"It was important for the group to come away with a win in difficult circumstances," he said.

"We are so motivated to do well on Sunday, especially after the City game.

"I am very confident for that game because the supporters will be behind us and we will be so motivated to do well after such a loss."

Villas-Boas is expected to recall the likes of Jermain Defoe, Kyle Walker and Paulinho, who were rested for Thursday's win over Tromso but striker Emmanuel Adebayor is a doubt because of a groin injury.

Manager David Moyes is happy to massage Nani's ego if it makes the Manchester United winger more consistent.

It has been a rather strange few months for the Portugal star. For the latter half of last season, it appeared certain Nani would be on the move as agreement over a new United contract looked impossible. Amazingly, once the transfer window closed and Nani was still at Old Trafford, he quickly signed a five-year extension.

That raised a few eyebrows and the fact he had made only six appearances prior to Wednesday's Champions League rout of Bayer Leverkusen has done little to settle the debate over Nani's future.

However, the 27-year-old was an integral presence in Germany as United romped to their biggest European away win since the Matt Busby era, and Moyes is wanting to see those same skills on show more often.

''Nani is a talented player,'' Moyes told www.manutd.com.

''We are trying to give him the feeling that he is important. It's something he needs - to get back to that consistency which gives him the reason to say: 'I'm the man. I can do that job regularly'.''

Moyes certainly feels Nani has all the attributes needed to have a major influence on his reshaped Red Devils outfit.

''He works hard enough at his game,'' said the Scot.

''He is happy to do all the leg work and his shooting with both feet is almost as good as anybody I've ever seen.

''He's incredibly talented and there is a chance he can improve. We want to give him the opportunity.

''You have to accept skilful players are going to be a bit indifferent.

''They are keen on showing you what they have got and, when it doesn't come off or work, it looks bad. That's the balance you have got to get right.''

Moyes faces a tricky selection dilemma after the hammering of Bayer Leverkusen, leaving the Scot to decide whether to break up a winning team.

Marouane Fellaini is definitely available after suspension, while Moyes claims both Nemanja Vidic (concussion) and Robin van Persie (groin) ''have a chance'' of being available.
