It appears to me that many people posting "BB all the way" are doing it as "Me too". Another reason BB supporters are giving is that his Manifesto is realistic and that he'll do whatever he says. If that'd be true, then no uninterrupted power supply till 2019 if he wins.

I urge you guys to take the time to read his manifesto. This is what he stated at the number two (2) position on the section; "On Infrastructure" in his Manifesto.


We will: Generate, transmit and distribute from current 5,000 – 6,000 MW to at least 15,000 MW of electricity by 2015 and increasing to 50,000 MW by 2019 with a view to achieving 24/7 uninterrupted power supply by 2019 whilst simultaneously ensuring development of sustainable/renewable energy.

Firstly, our current power generation is below 4,000 MW. This show that he doesn't know the actually figure of what we currently generate. Secondly, he didn't tell us how he's going to achieve the increment of the MW. Now compare this to Ribadu's below.


Inadequate power supply restricts socio-economic activities, limits economic growth and adversely affects the quality of life. Electricity supply in Nigeria is grossly inadequate as total installed capacity is far less than demand.

The current supply system relies essentially on natural gas and hydro (70:30) which are both vulnerable to sabotage and adverse weather conditions respectively. The drop in water level in the hydro power plants and acute shortage of gas supply to the thermal plants contribute to the inadequate supply of electricity.

The nation currently has an installed generation capacity of about 10,000 MW, but an available generation capacity of between 2,500- 3200 MW. Transmission capacity is estimated at 5,838 MVA with a transmission backbone of 4,534km (330kv lines) and 19 major transmission sub-stations.
Our distribution capacity sits at about 8,425 MVA. Technical energy loss is estimated at 14% of generation capacity (4%-transmission, 10%-distribution) Non-technical losses accounts for 32% of generation capacity. Access to electricity is estimated at 40% of the population.

We will move to diversify the energy mix by introducing coal powered plants which will employ clean coal technologies. These plants will be sited to ensure proximity to known coal reserves in Okaba, Ogboyoga (Kogi State), Owukpa (Benue State) and Ezimo (Enugu State). We will also invest in decentralized renewable energy such as wind, solar and biomass especially in rural areas, with limited grid access. We will provide fiscal incentives for private developers. We will implement pricing schemes to promote load management and motivate customers to minimize their energy consumption during peak periods. We will also ensure good consumer education on the most efficient use of energy.

We shall ensure capacity building within the industry and re-orientate PHCN personnel towards customer- oriented service, productivity and efficiency and sanction recurring anti-customer behaviour. We will introduce power consumer assistance funds for low-income power consumers, who consume below a certain threshold.
We will bring credibility to the power reform process by ensuring that those we will appoint will be above board, highly qualified and driven solely by public interest. We will stabilize power generation, transmission and distribution in the shortest possible time while putting in place a sustainable energy plan for the long term.

Though he (Ribadu) didn't state how long this is going to take him to achieve (This will be a good question to throw at him during presidential debate), but his "How to", I would say, is more realistic to me.


No doubt we all want PDP out of power, but the truth is that many will still be complaining come 2015 if we don't also use the same effort to revive the entire system.

Buhari is old, this is one of the main reasons many rejected IBB (Even Bakare was against old leaders, I wonder what changed his mind).

Checkout Vala, its C# that gets interpreted into C. You can do everything C or C++ can do with Vala, and you can do it with all the RAD that C# gives you! Thats some serious low level productivity ramp up!
Also check out projects like IL2CPU (part of Cosmos OS), SharpOS AOT, Bartok; they all compile C# right down to native code (eg IL2CPU spits out ASM). There's also some guy who runs a project that can take in any .NET language and spit out the equivalent assembler for the target architecture; his project is called pigmeo.

Check these things out, C# is on a roll. It is being adopted for all sorts of exciting stuff, just because its so beautiful. I would suggest you take a look at Vala, its the most straight forward of the lot.

I am a C# developer, so am not doubting the power of what can be done with C#. My point is that C# cannot be compare to C or C++(Like comparing English to your native language) as to Java (Comparing English(US) to English(UK)), C or C++ speaks directly to the machine. Interpreting C# codes to native language further prove my point, If C# can do what C or C++ can do why compile it to native language? Native language can be use for any programmable device, but that's not the case for C#(managed code) without compiling it to native language.

All am saying is that it's not right to compare C# to C or C++ the same way we compare C# to Java.

That may be the case for java, but I don't think it is for C or C++. There's so much you can do with C or C++ that you cannot do with c#, take for example the coming Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 supports only Silverlight and native C++, which many C# programmers (including me) are not happy about.

Webapps don't operate peripheral devices like your digital camera,scanner,thumbprint reader
and I don't think you can play an on-line game with a control pad.

I don't know if you mean using HTML/javascript, because am pretty sure that with Silverlight 4 you can access your web camera, printer and play game online with game controller (while running in full trust). Even the coming HTML 5 will let you do some of those as well.

I really agree with most of your points. I started out with Visual Basic, then ASP.NET/C#, right now am learning c++ to go right back  to desktop application to merge the two together. Yes i know i can do desktop application with c# (and I've been doing that), I want to try out the embedded market, can't just stand the next person pricing me N50k or so for web app/website and telling me how other people are ready to collect less.

This is not an answer to your question (I'm not a Java person), just a suggestion.

You don't have to fetch out the data from the database before performing your search. Your search can be performed in the database, that way you'd be returning lesser records and stress your database server less, even lesser bandwidth consumption.

No hard feelings mate! But i really get really angry when developers come online to say they don't care much about interface. the earlier you realize that interface is much more part of your work the better.
Do you think those who employ developers for Microsoft and Apple and other software giants would listen to that, maybe 20 years ago. but not in this century, as good as indians are, they remain behind because of this one thing.

You misunderstood me.

I mean when it comes to anything SMS on the web, what I only care about is how rich the API is. I usually integrate SMS functionality into most of the works I do for my clients, so I don't look much on how rich the interface of any SMS service provider is.

Guess we're both looking at it from different angle. i really don't care much about the interface. As a developer what i look at first is the api & it's features followed by the price. I use it mostly for integrating into web application, I can build whatever interface i want. Though burstsms has a richer api but the problem is that they charge in $ which is high when you covert it in naira.

I just blogged on how to write a generic jquery function to handle ajax request that return html in json response. It's a good trick that I believe will find its way in your code library.

What I blogged about in this post is how to return html content in json response type. The useful thing about this technique is that you get to write your html once in a partial view, which you can then render using full page or ajax request, you can also use the same ajax request with different unrelated url that returned different types. This saves you from writing too many codes for different kind of request and reduces view duplication between server and client side.
