Christianity EtcRe: A Thread For Catholics by Syncan(m):
From Today's Gospel. Jn. 15:18-21

"Jesus said to his disciples: “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you...."

Does the world still hate our generation of Christians? Though I will not generalize, but the world is at home with the kind of Christianity majority of Christians practice. Peppyluv02,Christianity has been made fashionable to the world by blending with the world's dictate. Ajerry, tell me why the world will have a problem with the Christianity that turned you into a money bag with private jets at your disposal. fembleez1, Why will the world hate my style of worship when it's same like being in a worldly club? Why will the world hate your dressing, when it's just same with the reigning worldly fashion without care for modesty. Why will the world hate my companionship Pavore9, when I join in discussing debauchery and all forms of immoral escapades without care. Goldienana, how will the world hate our business partnership, when we won't blink to cheat and make money?

I often tell myself that if faced by ISIS and asked to denounce Christianity; that I will stand firm, but Amuchejane; do you know that each time I look at how I tell lies at the slightest provocation, indeed how I hid my Identity at the smallest attack on my faith...yeah even in a faceless forum like NL....Nneka123; how I shrink and coward off when someone criticize our practice, emmabest2000, how easily I give consideration to things that will lead to my denial of my faith...Ezenwa11 each time I think of these things, I wonder if I'll have the grace to withstand ISIS. I have indeed compromised my faith in lesser temptation. However I am willing to strive to perfection. Pamcrest,I am reading the lives of the saints. babestell,I discuss holy things with the brethren(especially here), woky, I talk to God in prayer. Missonas,I join my brethren in group prayers...like the novena starting here tomorrow. Rose2014, I seek the prayers of my beloved brethren (14th May is my day), that the grace of God may lift me up. Misscongeniality, I take recourse to the blessed Virgin, whose help has seen sinners turn to saints, and I face each day determined to show the world that I am for Christ.

Good morning brethren, a splendid day ahead to all.

Note: If you've not picked a date please do, Mine is 14th May and the psalm I chose is Psalm 16. God bless you all.

It's good you didn't say it was more important than the crucifixion narration for example. Believe me, being with Jesus everyday must have been like heaven on earth for them, Out of so many miracles and wonders...I don't see why that one must be remembered.

hahahaha, more important than which event if I may ask?
Christianity EtcRe: A Thread For Catholics by Syncan(m): 3:42pm On May 08, 2015
Aizenosa:
I get one question funny enough it was asked by a priest. it goes like dis

At the transfiguration Jesus took Peter, James and John to the top of the mountain Mark 9:2 and the whole story followed, gud.

Now the question Peter and James didn't write gospels but John did but why is dis story not in John's gospel ?
I guess John answered the question before it was asked.

"He said And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." Jn 21:25.

So, na the one person fit remember in the circumstance, or most suited in the message being passed, na him he dey write i think.

To God be the glory. Mind you am a catholic but not with a strong faith in some of the doctrines.
Isn't it wonderful then that you're here, to challenge those who have strong faith in those other doctrines; that all may gain enlightenment, and to share your faith;in the ones you have strong faith, that all may be made strong. In all Sis, It's a win win situation that you're here.

Ubenedictus:
hehehe,

if you look at scriptures you'll also find the passage that says "I create evil and I cause disasters".

The key is interpretation.

I'll revisit this later.
Yeah, it's same place he quoted, just difference in the words used.

Some once wrote thus:

"A good analogy I read tonight is that evil is like blindness. Blindness is not a thing, sight is. Blindness is the absence of sight, but that does not make it any less real. It is the absence of something good. Another example is light. The absence of light is darkness, so in that sense darkness is not a thing, but an absence of something. If you could remove dark, there would simply be more dark".

Oga darknez, wait for Ubenedictus o, me I just the soliloquize

Today's First reading Acts 15:22-31

The apostles and elders decided to choose delegates to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; the whole church concurred with this. They chose Judas known as Barsabbas and Silas, both leading men in the brotherhood, and gave them this letter to take with them:
‘The apostles and elders, your brothers, send greetings to the brothers of pagan birth in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia. We hear that some of our members have disturbed you with their demands and have unsettled your minds. They acted without any authority from us; and so we have decided unanimously to elect delegates and to send them to you with Barnabas and Paul, men we highly respect who have dedicated their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accordingly we are sending you Judas and Silas, who will confirm by word of mouth what we have written in this letter. It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves not to saddle you with any burden beyond these essentials: you are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols; from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from fornication. Avoid these, and you will do what is right. Farewell.’
The party left and went down to Antioch, where they summoned the whole community and delivered the letter. The community read it and were delighted with the encouragement it gave them.

I just had to post the whole passage dear brethren so as to drive home the beauty of the message. Beloved, don't you often hear people claiming to have been anointed by God in the night and they start a "church" in the morning, and they tell you that their authority is the word of God. Hahaha, did we just read something different above or isn't this passage in their scripture? The apostles and elders said..."they acted without authority from us..." Ha, so authority was needed from men, na wa o. Can you imagine what they even wrote..."It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves..." what Impetus! What Audacity! Note that those who went without their authority were "some of our members", they were "born again" yet it didn't confer on them the authority to make doctrines. the authority lies with the apostles and elders, who Jesus had earlier told Peter to "feed my lambs"Jn 21:15-17 and to "strengthen the faith of your brothers" Lk 22:32. juzzybabe, that is why when the leaders of the church made the doctrine of no circumcision needed; in about 35AD, they said "It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves". When their successors declared the doctrine of the Trinity in 325AD, Jnrbayano, they said "It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves". When they canonized the books of the bible as scriptures as early as Hippo 393AD; Aizenosa, they said "It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves". Papist, When they declared the blessed Virgin Mary "God bearer (Theotokus); in 430AD, they said "It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves". Frodobee, this is the authority of the One, Holy, Roman, Catholic, Church Instituted by Christ upon the rock "Peter" and which the gates of hell shall never overcome.

My faith! My pride!

Good day brethren, a splendid day ahead to all.

darknez:
Lol!

I don't think there is anything like a "silly philosophical discuss".

Well, if you think there is, then let me ask a theological question, which I hope you won't call silly too...

Could you explain the following verse, in the light of your response above?

Isaiah 45:7Good News Translation (GNT)

7 I create both light and darkness; I bring both blessing and disaster. I, the Lord, do all these things.

Um...you can focus on the underlined only.

PS: I don't think evil is simply an absence of good. I think evil is substantive.
I knew this was coming. Make i just waka de go my way sha.

:
This story was certainly sensational. Was it true? I wrote my first post trying to figure out if it's believable or not. In my estimation find it perplexing and fraudulent.

Number one: St. Theresa of Lisieaux entered the convent at 15 years old only because she was given a dispensation from the Pope. That Charlotte joined the convent at barely 13? It's too young. No convent would have taken her. I know she said she went to Convent School, but to leave her family like that? It doesn't fly.

If she was learning about the cloistered life, she would have expected to have her hair cut and to take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. She seemed clueless about that. It sounds as if she didn't really have a vocation.

Her general comments were unrevealing and particular comments told a horror story unspecifically.

Her speech used no Catholic terminology: the Divine Office, the Blessed Sacrament, "going to Confession" not "Confessional", Stations of the Cross (instead of the 14 Steps ... etc.) and she knew none of the saints. She referred to penances as "tortures" and mistakenly was in the cloister to pray for the entire world. She doesn't speak like a Catholic.

I'm close with some Sisters, (one is in the family), a Cloistered Nun, and have been very good friends with a Priest for 20 yrs. These are good people who love Christ and offer their works, joys, and sufferings for others. No doubt it's a difficult life.

I've also known some bad apples, but I'm not going to judge the entire Catholic Church on those who malign the Church's teachings. The fact is, the Church has performed wonderful works for the poor, the ill, for children, the incarcerated etc ... for years and years. It has propagated Christianity.

The Catholic Church is the Bride of Christ. Our roots go back to Christ and the Apostles. Charlotte blames "Rome", but Rome was miles away. Rome doesn't have cameras and speakers inside every convent, rectory, or Confessional.

For someone who entered the convent, this woman knew little to nothing about her faith, causing me to wonder if this is just a story about what someone thinks goes on in a cloistered convent in order to cast aspersions on the Catholic Church.

There were generalities and foggy particulars given. As far as being an RN --- I am, and she didn't speak like one. She didn't sound that she'd been educated beyond grammar school. There is no conceivable way she could sneak out to Nursing School during the day. She didn't remember the deadly concoction of meds administered to Mr. Superior.

So ... there are many out there who hate what they "think" the Catholic Church is, but when they do some real investigating ... learning ... searching for truth ... they come home.
The above says it all. Let protestants blinded by hatred continue to fool themselves.

Even as far back as 2011, this has been on nairaland https://www.nairaland.com/593934/refutation-testimony-charlotte-wells-charlotte.

When will protestants start to take note of the past, and stop throwing up the same error, over and over again? smh.
